THE AMERICAN TRIBUNE
SENATOR MARA JOHNSTON ELECTED PRESIDENT By MDS
History has been made for transgender citizens of the US. This Tuesday, November 5th, Democratic Candidate Mara Johnston became the 67th president-elect of the United States. She was also the first transgender speaker of the house back in 2112 and served for three terms. In an election that some are calling a ‘landslide’, she won with over 72% of the popular vote and 357 delegates. It was not an easy road to the White House for Johnston. She was kicked out of her house at fifteen years old after she came out as transgender, something her former Republican opponent, Representative Harris has tried to use against her. He has not let up on his attacks, either, stating in his concession speech, “It is simply unnatural that someone decides that they are not their real gender, and I worry for the future of the country.” This was met with enthusiastic cheers from his supporters in the audience, though the backlash on social
media has made some speculate that it will be unlikely for Harris to be reelected next year. President-Elect Johnston’s speech, however, was met with an outpouring of support from most. “I am not proud to be this country’s first transgender president. I think it should have happened years ago. I am proud because I know that I will help Americans to be themselves, to live freely and openly without fear from the government.” Johnston is sticking to that promise already, stating that she and her staff have drafted Executive Orders 56789 and 56790, nicknamed the ‘Trans Bills”. These, when issued, will make it illegal to enforce gendered bathrooms in places of education and business, and get rid of gender markers on passports, driver’s licenses, and other state and federal-issued forms of identification. President-elect Johnston’s Inauguration will take place on January 20th,
2121, where she will be sworn in on the Constitution, which some right-wing politicians have called ‘ungodlike’ and ‘heretical’. When asked about her swearing in, Johnston stated, “I have no reason to be sworn in on a document that only represents a portion of Americans. The Constitution is what I will be basing my presidency on, not the Bible.” She will be only the second president to be sworn in on a document other than the Bible, after President Muhammad Alvi was sworn in on the Quran. Her campaign has yet to announce who will perform and speak at the Inauguration, though the ceremony will likely include some of the stars who campaigned for her, including LGBT musicians Maria Onovo and Jasper Moon.
