e are going to take you on a road less traveled, from a place named after a Queen of a mythical Island to an island that is home to a Mayan Goddess named Ixchel. We want to share with you, places we’ve discovered, everything from quaint hotels with beautiful views and great rates. To artists, crafting everything from indigenous to gallery style paintings. Craftsmen of all kinds, creating amazing doors, furniture, Mexican tiles, mosaics, ceramics, pottery and incredible iron works. We want to take you to swim with the Whale Sharks, visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum, and visit places with names like HolBox, Majahual and Playa Del Carmen. We will work up a great appetite after our adventures and eat the “comida” of Mexico. YUM! We will share some great restaurants that we’ve discovered and taste the culinary delights from the many different regions of this exotic and beautiful nation. We are going to spice it up from the Baja to the Yucatan, with Leslie and Matt recreating the cuisine caliente of Mexico and jazzing it up with the Latin sounds of The Berger/Sanchez Project.

Mexico a boomers guide Gourmet

My “amiga” Leslie is a Home Birth Mid-Wife and Nurse Practitioner, I can see why you might wonder why I would make this particular choice. Leslie also happens to be a one woman Mexico tourism aficionado and Oh yes.... a gourmet Mexican Chef..... Am I lucky or what? Mexico has a very diverse and sophisticated culinary history. It’s a mixture of Indigenous, European and Middle Eastern cuisine and Ingredients. Every region has it’s own unique style. The Yucatan region uses the natural sweetness from Achiote, a seasoning made from the annatto seed. One unique and traditional dish from this region is “Cochinita Pibil” a dish that involves marinating pork in the Achiote, wrapping it in banana leaves and cooking it slowly under the ground for many hours. We actually made this dish on our DVD “Cozumel, Island of the Goddess”.

Mario Castellanos “the Dude” is a first class photographer although he prefers a “working class” photographer. Mario was born in Mexico but grew up in East Los Angeles he is our director and has the difficult job of making us look good. Not only that but Mario always makes us laugh and he’s pretty good at it. We laugh alot!!! We are a self contained production unit.We do all our own production from top to bottom. That includes the music, which is all original. We are cost effective because our crew is small, reliable and efficient. We like to create a fun and enjoyable working environment and our equipment is the top of the line. We always strive to create a beautiful yet commercial product.

Why Mexico?

Mexico is a large and diverse country like it’s North American counterparts United States and Canada. Much like Montana to Miami, Florida, the regions are vastly different. The geography, climate and cuisine are completely unalike. There is one unique feature you will ďŹ nd throughout Mexico and that is .....color. Like Dorothy landing in Oz, one feels they went from black and white into a vibrant world of color.

We believe Mexico a Boomers Guide and Melrose Heights Magazine are a perfect partnership, sharing the same goals and philosophy. We wish to present our vision to your upscale and multicultural readership. We believe your readers would enjoy our colorful cuisine and our beautiful and exotic destinations.
