Scottish Special
Winter 2019 – MAF Scotland news and events
Thank you! The MAF Scotland team completes 2018 with huge thankfulness for all that God has done through us and with us this year. We are very thankful for the many new supporters who have joined us on this journey, and for those who remain with us after so many faithful years. We’re also thankful for our volunteer team, our amazing Scottish missionaries, our new Scotland display plane, and our new ways of engaging audiences — like the MAF Rescue Challenge. As we enter a new year, we want to ensure that we’re doing all we can to fully engage and resource our Scottish supporters. So this issue of the Special is a bit different. Inside, you will find a four-page questionnaire asking you about your experience of MAF in Scotland. We’d be very grateful if you could complete this online or drop it back to us in the post — the instructions for doing so are inside. Thank you again for all your love and support. We wish you a very merry and peaceful Christmas and a happy and blessed New Year. Ruth Jack Head of MAF in Scotland
Chicken Nuggets take flight!
The MAF Rescue Challenge at Refuel 2018 was won by team ‘Chicken Nuggets’. Their prize — an individual flight in a light aircraft on a sunny Saturday in September. Gathering together at Aberdeen Airport, the team were taken up one-by-one in a Cessna 152 owned and flown by MAF volunteer Martyn Segar. The event was hosted by Signature Flight Support with additional support from Alexander Flight Training. The team ensured their airborne exploits were shared on social media throughout the day. Everyone agreed that
it was an amazing experience — if a little scary at times! Music student Grace commented that ‘it was just insane’ after Martyn let her take control of the plane for a moment. ‘When you feel how much a little wind can affect a plane of that size, it brings into context the skill of MAF pilots flying in treacherous conditions around the developing world.’ Chicken Nuggets say they thoroughly enjoyed their day and we’d like to thank Martyn and his friends for their generosity and continued support for MAF.
