Whatever you decide to do, make sure you follow this simple guide in order to maximise your fundraising efforts. Ask As simple and obvious as it may sound, if people don’t know, they won’t donate. Ask everyone you know to support you, and let them know why you are doing this and the difference their contribution will make. Give them something to talk about Be inventive with your fundraising and let it stand out from the crowd. Then use Twitter and Facebook to get people talking. Set a target If you have a goal that you want to reach, let everyone know about it. Keep people updated about your progress. Think big, but also be realistic. Timing Timing is said to be everything so make sure you pick yours wisely. The time to approach your colleagues may be on payday when they are more likely to be generous, not when all the winter bills have just come in. The Boss Why not check to see if your company will help or even match your fundraising efforts. Passion Whether you’re a baker, drama queen or fitness fantastic, centre your fundraising around your passion. Using existing skills will not only help your fundraising but will also make it even more enjoyable for you.

Six simple sizzlers 1 Fill an empty Smarties pack with £1 coins or 20 pence pieces. Pass it round the office, friends or simply keep topping it up with your spare change. If you’re at work, why not challenge another department to see who can fill one first? 2 Get some baby photos from friends and colleagues and then charge others to guess who’s who – or maybe just to look at the photos! 3 When the weather’s warm, why not make the most of it by having a lunchtime car wash. Get donations from family, friends or colleagues in return for a sparkling clean motor. 4 There’s a classic way to raise money that never fails to attract a crowd – supply homemade cakes and watch the donations come flooding in. Why not make a few extra cakes that people can take home – for a donation of course! 5 Why not run a caption competition and ask for donations in return for every suggestion. Whether you choose to use a serious picture or a more humorous one, it’s bound to get people talking. 6 Ahoy there, landlubbers, here’s a golden fundraising idea. Hoist the Jolly Roger, put a parrot on your shoulder and hold a treasure hunt.
