Building Maintenance & Projects Manager, Mt Hagen, PNG Based in Mt Hagen this post holder will provide building & maintenance management for the PNG program.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the entire MAF I PNG buildings maintenance program, new construction projects and vehicle fleet care. The successful candidate will have experience in leading and training teams. Cross Cultural experience is preferred. The successful candidate will have experience in working with building regulations and be willing to work within PNG government building codes and laws to ensure MAF compliance. The successful candidate will have formal tertiary or trade qualifications relevant to the building industry and be able to demonstrate at least 5 years industry experience in leadership of construction/building projects.

Base Operations Manager, South Sudan Based in Juba, Sudan, this person will be responsible for the management and smooth running of MAF operations in Juba. This will include ensuring excellent service provision in the areas of logistics and flight operations; managing the base office – including staff, finances and facilities; and developing relationships and liaising with partners and service users. The post-holder will have responsibility for ensuring service delivery meets the needs of MAF’s partners and service users. The successful candidate will have team management experience and/or project management experience involving working with others, excellent customer service and ideally some experience of financial management. Experience of working in a developing country and preferably experience of having worked in aviation or a related field is required. 

Stores Manager, Arnhem Land

Base Support Manager, South Sudan

Based in Nhulunbuy, Arnhem this post holder will provide stores support to the Arnhem Land program.

This engaging and varied role exists to provide a high level of service for our base in Juba, in South Sudan.

The post holder will be responsible for the efficient management of the store; liaising with suppliers and other MAF program stores staff and purchasing and receipt of materials, parts and equipment.

The post holder will be responsible for providing Finance, Human Resources and Administrative support as well as providing regular communication updates.

The role includes the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date stock records including monthly reports and maintaining appropriate stock levels including yearly stocktakes.

The role will include overseeing the finances of Juba base, recruiting local staff, coordinating training and organising staff events.

The successful candidate will have stores/stock management experience; have customer service experience and good computer and administration skills.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in administration at an advanced level. Relevant experience/qualifications in Finance and or HR are essential. The applicant will enjoy working with different cultures and possess a proactive attitude along with good communication skills and logical thinking. Experience of living and working in a developing country is preferred. 

Programme Manager (Various Locations)

Quality Manager, Mt Hagen, PNG

An exciting opportunity exists to lead and direct a MAF Programme. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the programme strategy, reviewing priorities and managing the operational services offered to customers.

Based in Mt Hagen, Papua New Guinea, this individual will be responsible for maintaining a Quality Management Systems (QMS) for the Papua New Guinea programme in accordance with MAF International’s Quality Manual. The post-holder will be crucial in promoting a quality culture within the programme.

In addition this person will support the effective performance and physical and spiritual wellbeing of programme staff and develop partnerships with service users. This role is part of the Senior Management Team for the programme and involves external representation of MAF. The successful candidate will have excellent written and spoken English, demonstrated ability of successful leadership and/or management of a multi-cultural team, experience of working in a developing country and preferably experience of having worked in aviation or a related field.    

Responsibilities will include establishing a schedule and budget for regular audits to monitor the effectiveness of the Quality Management System; conducting quality audits; managing the Corrective & Preventative Action Database; seeking opportunities for improvement of processes and procedures, determining root cause analysis on identified issues; establishing the effectiveness of corrective actions taken; control of exposition documents, retention of quality records; liaising with the Safety Management System by participating in the Programme Safety Action Groups and the Occupational Health and Safety Committee. In addition, the successful candidate may be required to assist the MAF Asia Pacific Regional Quality Manager by conducting quality audits of other MAF programmes. Previous experience in QMS and quality auditing is preferred. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

The role would suit a qualified accountant who is experienced in financial management, using MS Excel and financial software packages.  

Operations Director,

The Operations Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the operations team of pilots and base operations staff. Based in Dodoma, the post holder will be required to ensure the safe and efficient organisation and scheduling of MAF aircrew and aircraft whilst making sure that the operations comply with applicable standards, legislation and safety policies.

Based in Juba, South Sudan and accountable to the Base Manager, the Juba Facilities Manager will be responsible for the upkeep of the Juba base facilities.

The post-holder will have a passion to meet the need of MAF’s customers and will promote a service orientated working environment in the operations team. All applicants should hold or have recently held a commercial or air transport pilot licence. Those who have also held operations appointments in commercial or military aviation would be preferred.

Duties will include routine maintenance of the base, ensuring adequate and constant utility supplies (water, electricity), managing the Base’s security requirements, including the supervision of the security guards, ensuring that MAF properties are maintained along with carrying out any required repairs and ensuring that any building work complies with local codes of practice and building regulations. The ideal candidate will have good written and spoken English skills, prior experience in a similar role, good people management skills and experience of working in a cross cultural developing country.

Flexibility, service orientation and good communication skills are a requirement of this post along with experience of having worked in a management capacity.

Airfield Developer, Liberia Based in MAF’s newest programme, Liberia, this person’s main responsibility is to manage the airfield development work within the programme. This role will include identifying potential airfield areas for development, ensuring that planned and funded new airstrips are fully prepared for construction and following construction, are approved and licensed. With previous experience and training in project management and knowledge of construction projects, ideally this candidate will possess a graduate degree with a civil engineering or construction specialism. The ability to communicate effectively in English and being able to work unsupervised under difficult physical conditions at times are essential.

Flight Training Instructor, Mount Hagen, PNG The post holder will need to be at least Grade 2 (or equivalent). They will need to hold, or have held, a Command Instrument Rating together with an Instrument Training Approval on their Grade 2 Instructor Rating, or have MAF Programme Check and Training experience in Instrument Rating Training and/or Renewals. Persons with less than these qualifications, but who are working towards them are encouraged to express their interest.

Experienced Pilots, Africa Region Locations

Mission Pilots,

An International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) based Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with an instrument rating and appropriate aviation medical certificate is the minimum-licensing requirement for all pilot positions. Experienced pilots will carry out flying duties under the leadership of the Chief Pilot.

An International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) based Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and a Single Engine Command Instrument Rating, 10 hours of night flying and appropriate aviation medical certificate is the minimum licensing requirement for all pilot positions.

These pilots are required to have a minimum of 1000 hours total flight time (which includes 500+ hours PIC) with appropriate experience or ratings as necessary. This could include experience on multiengine or turbo-prop aircraft in order to operate our Cessna Caravans.

Pilots will carry out flying duties under the leadership of the Chief Pilot. Pilots are usually required to spend some nights away from base each month to complete planned flights.

Applicants for ‘AL’ must have a desire to work and live in Australian Aboriginal communities and have or be able to obtain permission to live and work in Australia and undertake conversion to Australian CPL. Pilots with a minimum of 200 hours total flight time can apply as a Mission Pilot for Arnhem Land.

Director of Maintenance, Kenya Based in Nairobi, this person will be responsible for the airworthiness and serviceability of the aircraft listed in the programme’s AOC certificate. The Director of Maintenance will be the link between the Operations Department and the Aircraft Maintenance Organisation in ensuring that all required scheduled and unscheduled maintenance is performed on time and to the approved standard and that all mandatory and approved directives, bulletins and modifications are embodied. The Director of Maintenance in conjunction with the Operations Director will establish and maintain Aircraft Maintenance Programmes (AMP) and Minimum equipment lists (MEL ) for all the aircraft within the Programme’s AOC certificate in accordance with the latest revisions of the approved Manuals. The Director of Maintenance, working closely with the Accountable Manager and the Quality Manager, will review any quality issues pertaining to the maintenance of aircraft.

Development Manager, South Sudan The Development Manager will be responsible for developing strategic opportunities for MAF in South Sudan as well undertaking the day to day management of development projects. Creating an infrastructure in the programme so that resources are effectively used and customer service levels improved are also a key component of this role. Other duties will include carrying out surveys, creating project proposals, identifying and building relationships with key strategic partners such as the Sudanese airport and government officials and managing the MAF South Sudan Facilities Manager. Previous experience in a senior leadership position is essential as is the ability to build and maintain good relationships at all levels of the organisation. Cross cultural experience and experience of living and working in a developing country is desirable though not essential. 

Chief Engineer, Mongolia The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management of the aviation maintenance team and the overall maintenance operation. The post-holder must be able to demonstrate extensive aviation maintenance experience, have management or supervisory training or experience, plus the competencies necessary to take on this leadership role. Duties will include maintenance control, certification of aircraft, hangar upkeep, stock control and the management and development of other aviation maintenance staff. An FAA A&P certificate with a current Inspection Authorization is the best licensing option for Mongolia. Otherwise, Type Ratings for all applicable airframes and engines are required.

Responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, testing and certification of aircraft avionics. The person should have a general background in electronics, a proven record in fault finding and component repair capabilities. People with mechatronics qualifications may be interested in this position. An important part of this position is the training of PNG Nationals, CRMF staff, representatives from National church groups, missions and students from colleges. 
