MACUHO Celebrates Our Golden 50

MACUHO celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022. Originally named “Region II” in 1972, MACUHO has grown to become a very active association, sponsoring multiple conferences, a job placement service, a magazine, recognition of excellence through annual and programming awards, and creating an inclusive environment for our professional and student staff in the mid-Atlantic region.

The logo that MACUHO has used over the years has had five different designs. The first design, shown here, is first recorded in the March 1976 issue of the MACUHO Newsletter.

This design was used until 1986, when the “scale” logo, designed by Amy Dickenson-Young, was adopted by the association. A variation of this logo was used as the conference logo for that year as well.

MACUHO’s third logo was designed by Jason Oakman and approved in 1995.

This logo didn’t last too long as a new one was unveiled at the 2001 conference in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. This logo was designed by Wendy Jone and her colleagues at Penn State University.

The current logo debuted at the 40th anniversary conference in 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland. This was designed by Sean Killion and the team at Temple University.

You may notice that England is among the places named in the second and fourth logos. In 1975, Peter Glanfield from the University of Keele, officially joined MACUHO. England remained part of MACUHO until an update to the constitution removed it in 2011.

We will be celebrating this golden anniversary throughout 2022, and our annual conference in Lancaster, PA from October 19-21, 2022 will highlight our past and look forward to what we will become! Make plans now to attend!
