*APPLAUSE*
I think it’s safe to say that female empowerment is more prominent than ever. There is no longer a feeling that we cant do something because of our gender- because our self-belief is showinf the
world just how powerful we really are. A-list celebrities such as Beyonce, Angelina Jolie and Emma Watson are using their fame to make positive changes to the world and bbb iradicate sexism. So lets show everyone that it really is girls who run the world; by radiating confidence in ourselves and everything we do.

HOW TO:
Contour your face
What is contouring?
Images and Writing By Eleanor Storey
Contouring your face is when you use make up to give an area of your face extra shape and structure.
Step 1
Start your make up routine as normal. Once this is complete you’re ready to begin
Step 2
Either using a contour stick or bronzer, draw two lines just under your cheekbones. Expose your cheekbones by gently sucking in your cheeks.
Step 3
Then draw lines at the top of you forehead. The idea of this is to exaggerate your natural facial features but at the same time make your forehead appear smaller.
Step 4
Once your darker colour is applied it is then onto the lighter colour...Again, using a contour stick or palette or even a concealer apply the lighter colour underneath your eyes.
Step 5
Apply the lighter colour all the way over your cheek bones to add drama or just a light sweep underneath the eye area will do for a more natural look!
Step 6
Then go to the dark colour on your cheeks and apply the lighter colour right underneath. This will enhance what you’re doing on the cheeks with the bronzer and allow it to stand out more.
Step 7
Once you have carried out all of these steps it is time to blend! Start with the dark line – blend out the forehead lines and also go down your temple so they almost join up the lines on your cheeks.
Step 8
Blend the cheek colour out and also apply bronzer over the top if needed. Blend the lighter colour out by tapping it into the skin with a brush rather than using sweeping mothings, this will make it stand out more.
...And You’re Done!

Our Top 5
Beauty
foundations
1. Estee Lauder Doublewear
This is the UK’s Number 1 foundation. It is the best foundation for the best coverage. The foundation stays looking flawless on the skin for 15 hours, even in the heat and humidity it still looks fresh. As it is quite thick, one layer is enough for every day, yet for the evening you can add another layer for a fuller look. £31 for 30ml
2. Giorgio Armani Lumious Silk
Ideal if you do not like thick foundation. It it not too heavy, it is very light on skin as it soaks into it instead of just sitting on top. It is a very versatile foundation, as you can wear it during the day with moisturiser or in the evening with a primer. £40 for 30ml
3. YSL Touch Elcat
This weightless foundation is perfect as it gives you full coverage on your face, yet you don’t need much at all. The less you have on the face, the better is looks. It gives the face a beautiful matte
finish. Even though it is quite a thick foundation, it still looks very natural looking. £33.50 for 30ml
4. MAC Face and Body
This is the most fluid foundation. It is not thick and textured at all. It is of a water consistency which feels gentle on the face. It makes the skin feel moiosturised. This is ideal for those with dry skin. Due to its light texture, it does not provide full coverage, but still hides blemishes. £23.50 for 50ml
5. Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum
This is a much cheaper foundation, but is still of high quality. It is a light medium coverage foundation that gives a radiant finish to the face. It is very light which makes it easier to apply, it is very similar to a tinted moisturisr. It is good for those who prefer a more natural look to their face who prefer just one base layer of foundation. If you apply another, it does becomes less natural looking and gives a ‘cakey’ texture. £9.99 for 30ml

HOW TO:
Clean your make-up brushes in 5 simple steps
We can all agree that good quality make-up brushes are
By Shannon Allanson
essential to getting the perfect coverage, blend and definition when applying make-up. But what many people don’t realise is that these expensive –yet completely worth it- brushes can do more harm than good if not cleaned regularly and efficiently. So here’s the best way to do it...
What you’ll need: Small bowl Mild Shampoo Tap Clean Towel
Instructions:
Step Three: Swirl each brush in the water using your hand to help work up a lather if necessary.
Step One: Run each of your brushes under
lukewarm water and gently rub the bristles to rinse out all of the residual make-up.
Step Two: Fill a small bowl with Luke-warm water and add small amount of mild shampoo or bath cream before inserting each brush.
Step Four: Repeat steps one and three until the water runs clear before gently squeezing any access water from the brushes and reshaping as required.
Step Five: Place the brushes on a dry hand towel and leave in a warm place to air dry.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU TRAVEL. By Lydia O’Dowd
Are you considering going travelling this year? Exploring a different culture that looks fascinating in all the Instagram pictures you see constantly shared online? If this sounds like you, you might be interested in this article... I was definitely one of those people that daydreamed about travelling abroad. However, I was completely niave to what travelling actually entailed. I went travelling around Cuba. One of the biggest shocks I had which I had never considered before arriving on Cuban land is that barely anyone spoke fluent English and I didn’t see one tourist in the 3 weeks I was there! It was rare to come across anyone that could say more than the basic language you find in a ‘how to speak English guide’. As I had only been on holiday to resorts and popular holiday destinations I had never been somewhere where I only had my travel partner
to talk to. Another shock was the culture. Parts of Cuba were terribly run down, the Cubans would stare as we walked by, I presumed they hadn’t seen many tourists for a while. It It was amazing, scary and eye opening to visit such a place. I had no idea what Cuba would be like, I didn’t do much research on it, I had just heard some very interesting things, so I wanted to check it out myself. One of the most difficult things to over come, was eating! Being a vegetarian, it was almost impossible to get any vegetarian dishes out there. It didn’t exist. Having meat on your plate was

seen as a sign of power. I couldn’t even order vegetables in most places as they said they didn’t stock them! I was literally living off a packet of biscuits for days on end. I wouldn’t say any of my shocks were negatives they were just hurdles you have to over come when travelling. Cuba was fascinating, beautiful and everyone was very friendly, even if all they could do was wave. Another thing to think about when travelling is your travel partner. I have heard of many stories where friends have been lost and relationships broken. I was very lucky to have travelled with someone I cared about dearly and we didn’t even have one argument! Make sure you prepare... think about food, location, accommodation and your travel partner! They seem fairly straightforward but are easily overlooked.

“There is just something special about it”
Hollie Heatherington, 20, always dreamt of living in Ibiza. When she was 19, she booked a long holiday to go and explore the beautiful island. She tells her story and offers tips on anyone thinking of going for their first time.
“The idea of living in Ibiza started as long as I can remember. I fell in love with it when I used to go with my family every year. My parents both used to go for a holiday there when they turned 18 and kept returning every year. Ibiza was where my parents met and fell in love. They both loved the island so much that I went back on numerous occasions to do a season. As silly as it sounds, I do feel like I have got some sort of attachment to Ibiza because of this. Due to me returning every summer with my whole family, I understood the music more as I got older. Music is a massive integral part of Ibiza so I grew up with all the wellknown house music. I always knew in my head that I would go there for my first girls holiday. Sadly, my first holiday without my parents was Magaluf. I was disappointed to say the least, I did have a good time however I would have much rather have been in Ibiza. I told myself that I had to go the
following year for a long period of time to make up for me not going when I was 18. When I was 19, I spontaneously booked to go to Ibiza for 6 weeks with my best friend. We did not line up any jobs for when we got out there, we described it to everyone as an ‘extended holiday’. As soon as I arrived, all the memories came back. I remembered how much I loved the island, the people and the music. There is just something special about it. It’s not like any other party island; it stands out from the rest. House music originated there. It’s truly amazing how one tiny island is responsible for a successful genre of music. It’s not till you visit that you understand how special the music is. As soon as you step off the plane, you see promo and big billboards scattered everywhere. There is always something going on. There is so much history that comes with Ibiza. In the 1960’s, the hippies occupied the island, which was where the whole party scene came about. Over the years it has become world renowned for the best parties and the biggest club. Space is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Ibiza is completely different to any other party destinations as Ibiza has a party scene all over the island, whereas places like Zante, Aiya Napa only have one strip with clubs. Ibiza has

It is amazing watching people enjoying themselves in a club. I never realised how passionate people were about the music.
“It’s not like any other party island, it stands out from the rest” I felt in my element. I met such a diverse range of people who were all there for different reasons. What I did not expect was meeting people who hadn’t slept for 3 days, who were purely just enjoying themselves partying. I met people who went for a holiday and never went home, people who went to work for the season and people who somehow missed their flight home so decided to stay another week. It is a non-stop holiday; there is so much to do. I would say that its definitely a test of endurance, you’ve got to be prepared for it. If Ibiza is your first holiday away with your parents, it

“You could easily spend 300 Euros in a night” spending money. It is so easy to get caught up on your first as its so overwhelming and exciting. You could easily spend 300 Euros in a night as drink prices averaged from 10 Euros for water and 20 Euros for a Vodka and mixer. The drinks are expensive but you just have to accept it. However I would definitely suggest that you pre drink a lot before you go out. Alcohol from local supermarkets are very reasonable so buy your drink from there. If you go out for a week, I would say about 800 Euros would be a comfortable amount. Finally, as much as it is a party island, make sure you explore the island. It would be shame not to see all the beautiful beaches and little historic towns. Buses run all over the island, which is a good way to achieve this. You can buy a ticket for 3 Euros. The buses also take you the clubs and run all night, with the last bus being at 7am. The bus station is in San Antonio where the majority of tourists and workers stay. I’ve decided to go back this year, as I was devastated when I left last year. I told myself I would go for longer. I have booked a oneway flight and found an apartment with three other girls. I don’t know them, but it is part of the experience of meeting new people. I’m planning on staying for 3 months as I would like to spend some time in England as well before I return back to University.

Why there is really no such thing as “just a waitress”
By Shannon Allanson
“Yeah, I am a waitress- that much is true- but I am also so much more than JUST a waitress...”
“I t was during a very busy Sunday dinner service that I
learnt this important lesson which has stuck with me ever since. A customer asked me a question about our local area which i didnt know the answer to; so I gave him the usual “Sorry I’m not sure, I’m just a waitress” response. This is when he suprised me, instead of just agreeing with me as most the population would have, he said:
“Dont say that, you’re not just a waitress- you do a very demanding job and dont get nearly enough recognition for it”.
This small comment, was just
the pep talk I needed to get me through the havoc of the next few hours and really empowered me. Because what he said was completely true. Of course, my job role does simply say “Waitress” but this doesnt mean that all I do is serve tables and smile at customers. Throughout the day I play a variety of different roles on top of the one I am being paid slighly above minimum wage for. When your child starts to become aggitated from being forced to sit at a table I will become a childrens entertainer and distract your little ones whilst you try to enjoy your meal without them tugging at you constantly. Whilst serving on the bar, I will listen to lonely regulars tell me their problems again and again and act as a councellor as I try to help them firgure out their problems and “find themselves”. When collecting food from
the kitchen I will try to help stressed out chefs by cleanShannonsalads Allanson ing pans, bypreparing and basically doing anything that will make their job easier whilst the whole time being moaned at for not being fast enough or not selling enough specials. When your child decides they no longer like their plate I will clean up all mushed-up food they leave dried to the table and stuck to the carpet. I’ll clean up mud brought in on your boots all the time telling you its no problem at all- and as long as you say thankyou it really isnt. Now I want to make it clear that I am not complaining; just as the majority of other front of house staff , I enjoy my job and realise that what I do is not a life and death situation. But I am still human, I am not just a waitress and if you treat me with the respect I offer to you I think you’ll realise Im actually a pretty nice person

A SMART WOMAN’S GUI
THE CONFIDENCE ISSUE By Lydia O’Dowd
Many girls growing up and approaching adulthood suffer from a confidence issue and have little self-belief. When do you start adulthood?... When you turn 21? Many people are still attending university at the age of 21. Are you meant to have your life together and know how everything will pan out? Relationships? Careers? Buying a house? It seems to come on us so quickly. Before you know it
someone is asking what are you going to do for the rest of your life?... Jessie aged 24, was told that she would get nowhere in life by a lecturer in her final year of university. She was just about to turn 21 and was studying English. She had no passion for her degree and it wasn’t going to plan. Jessie had no idea what she was planning on do when her final year ended. She came out with a low 2:2 and had nothing lined up afterwards.
“I felt like a let down. I didn’t want to tell my family that my degree wasn’t going how I had planned and my lecturer made me feel even worse” “When I turned 21, I remember being stood in a room with my friends and family thinking about what my lecturer had once said to me.” ... “I had two options. I could either doubt every decision I had made and hate myself as I grew up for not believing I was better than

words someone had said to me or I could try and take inspiration from it and not be the failure he thought I was set out to be.” After doubting herself for so long and having no confidence in anything she did. Jessie finally believed that she would make something of herself. She had a passion for design and business. In the past she never felt her work was good enough and had little enthusiasm when it came to pursuing any type of career. She took English at university as she
was told by so many people that design degrees will never come to anything and you have to be at the top of your game to progress in the industry. “After I turned 21, I remember the first thing I did when I got home was grab my old design folder I had left in the corner of my room for so long. It was just collecting dust. I starting going through my old word, which once I had looked at and thought wasn’t quite good enough and lacked in quality. However, going

through my work this time round, I felt excited. It gave me the buzz I used to feel when I started to design patterns and clothing outlines.”
“For the first time in so long, I felt like me again. I believed in myself” “I took my designs to several big outlets and small ones. Yes many turned me down. It did hurt but I never let it stop me. Not this time… I knew someone would take my work on. I could just feel it.” Jessie is now part of the designing team at Next. She works in home ware design and the clothing department. She has been working there for just under three years. “I love my job. As horrible as some people can be, I’m glad my teacher said to me I’d be a failure. Look at me now, I’ve made something of myself.” Even if the world seems against you and you want to give up. Never doubt your self-belief and have confidence in who you are. You will find your way at some point in your life. Just be patient and never give up your passions.

After the social media phase, you should probably look into getting a more steady income. You need to work in a bar. Working behind a bar comes with many positives for example, it’s exciting, you get free drinks! and make new friends. However at the same time you need to deal with drunk people telling you what to do and the sick in the bathroom...
You should try and get a job somewhere a bit more serious than your younger self could. Go in the retail! You will become one of the memes on Facebook... but it has to be done. You need to learn how the general public really are at times...
2
You then need to work in a restruant. Learn how to deal with people and customers. Understand that they didnt ask for tomatoes on their burger! On the brightside you might get an employees discount...
3 4
Now you need to try and be the Instagram model. Post pictures of yourself that you claim to have been taken professionally... In hope a company will pick you up. Everyones been there.. DO IT.. It’s kind of fun.

After learning all the wonderful tricks of the trade. You should now have acquired skills that can help you in your future careers. There is a lot that can be said for having these jobs when growing up... maybe not such mistakes afterall?

REAL CLOTHES FOR REAL WOMEN
By Lydia O’Dowd
How many times do you search online for clothes and see the skinniest of models posing in them? Go through every social media outlet and see a pretty skinny model standing there with the tightest of dresses looking picture perfect. Fair enough, that is their job to sell clothes and look great in them but more than half the people purchasing the clothes look nothing like that. Their customers 9 times out of 10 have jobs, university or college to attend, we don’t always have time to work out in the gym and just eat salad for days on end. I have found some brands that use ‘plus size’ models to sell their clothes… by plus size they mean 12 – 16… which is ridiculous. I wouldn’t call a size 12 plus size! However, it is a good start to get real people modelling clothing for people of bigger sizes to see what the clothes look like. Instead of just having sizes
4 – 8 just being modelled. ASOS hire plus size models as well as the average model to sell their clothes. A Swimwear brand called ELSA&ROSE, hire plus size models, they were one of the only swimwear brands I could find that had several plus size models selling their items which I found very refreshing.

Erika Clark, model, 20, who is pictured in the red dress and checkered shirt would be considered as a plus size model as she is a size 12,
“I am so happy with my body, I like being classed as a plus size model, it really mocks the modelling industry”
I think I look healthy and very fit. Its ridiculous that this industry believes 12 – 16 is plus size. Every size is normal. I don’t like the categorizing of people by their weight. It is so wrong. Brands should just get a range of women of all sizes and photograph everyone in the same outfit, just to help people see what it will look like on them.”

All the outfits Erika is wearing can be found from the ASOS range. Red crimson bodycon dress £20 Checked black and white shirt £15 Plain white tank top £10 Washed out blue skinny jeans £25 Black anklet boots £27 Rosegold necklace £15 No one should feel ashamed for their dress size. The stages Relationships
every friendship group went through...
2. Before the use of mobiles
By Eleanor Storey
The girls you decide to spend your childhood and beginning of adult life with is vital, as it makes your life more enjoyable. Having the right friends around you is essential for setting you on the best road for life. It is not straightforward as you think, every girl group has had their fair share of arguments or been caught out bitching about each other. Every friendship group went through different stages that tested their friendship but brought them closer together.
1. School years
Remember the days when you got home from school and within 5 minutes your best friend would call the house phone asking to speak to you. You spent the whole day together, yet and as soon as you part ways, you want to chat to them again. The contact with your girlfriends would be non-stop, even if it were nothing that important.
The friends you met on the first day will be guaranteed to be your friends for life. You watch each other grow over the years and spend every day with them. The friends you make at school will always be special. Although there may be the odd nasty girls, your friendship group will always have your back if ever in trouble. Image by Eleanor Storey

THE SERIAL DATER By Lydia O’Dowd How many first dates have you been on?Can you count on your hands or are you losing count?
Image from Adobe Stock
Do you tend to go on very few second dates and very rarely a third date? Does this sound like you? You have the serial dater syndrome. Many serial daters don’t always realise they are jumping from relationship to relationship. They instead tend to believe that they are just unlucky when it comes to falling in love. After all, you can’t help it if you keep on finding so many amazing guys? Unfortunately, if you are a serial dater you’re the one causing all the problems in your relationships. You’re always on the hunt for a new relationship and you’re never truly happy if you’re alone. Serial daters tend to have never learnt how to be independent, hence their constant searching for love.
A serial dater will always have a potential love interest; always talking to someone and considering if they could be the one. They’re always after the chase that gets them excited. They enjoy the giddy feeling when they first meet someone but are scared of the long-term relationships and the feelings that replace the butterflies, with comfort and security… however, serial daters don’t want these feelings, they don’t feel ready for them. So when the butterflies fade, so do they.
Every date a serial dater goes on considers if they could be the one. They’ve met their ‘soul mate’ more times than they can count. They tend to lose their standards and accept date offers from guys they don’t really find that attractive just in case he could be the one, ‘you don’t know until you try’… Serial daters really do hate to be alone and out of romantic connections. They find comfort from going on dates or being in short-term relationships. They tend to like the idea of love more than actually being in love. As serial daters want to find love so badly, they tend to force it and think every date they go on could be the love of their lives but once the butterflies fade, they always ‘fall out of love.’ If this sounds like you, you should take a step back and consider your options and why exactly you behave this way. If you are afraid of being alone, try and confront it and sort out your personal emotions before inflicting it on other people. Serial dating is making it so much harder for you to actually find love and you will forever have a constant battle between being in a relatioship and feeling alone, if you don’t confront your issues now.

Well, we’re not yet convinced. Its estimated that around 50 million people use Tinder everyday- So let’s explore the 10 different stages every user will experience whilst looking for love...r... By Shannon Allanson
I
t’s time to admit that the era of courting and chivalry is pretty much dead and gone. Walking up to someone in a bar and asking them out has become more of a myth than the Lockness Monster and those still trying to find their way in the dating scene are having to change their approach- so please welcome to the stage Tinder!
So we down-play our interest in meeting someone new and prepare for the worst; blaming our use of the app on idle curiosity and boredom. No expectations, no disappointment right?
Whilst the idea of internet dating has most people either running for the hills or in uncontrollable fits of laughter the popularity of dating apps has become so apparent that they’re quickly becoming the most common way for people to meet.
AKA: The Aggravation Stage.
E K I L
So whether you’re a Tinder trainee or may as well have a doctorate in dating apps, here are the 10 stages of tinder which every user will experience at some point during the process.
1) The “Okay, I’m only joining this to see what its all about- I know nothing is going to come of it” stage. AKA: The Denial Stage.
Let’s be honest for a moment, no-one wants to admit that being single can be rather lonely at times. As the DSF (Designated single friend) it is our solemn duty to boast to our coupled-up companions about just how fun and liberating single life is- even if you spend most nights eating a ‘sharebag’ of minstrels and only watching films from the romance section of Netflix.
2) The “Wow, there are literally no good looking people around here” stage.
This is the stage in which we learn two things. First, we realise just how interested we really are in finding someone on this app which we swore we weren’t taking seriously. And second, that we’ve already met just about everyone worth meeting within a 10-mile radius and may need to look into relocating. Of course this isn’t really the case, so here comes the the sneaky third lesson we learn during this stage which is that as humans we’re actually very shallow and need to realise that looks- especially those only seen through a screen- are not the be all and end all.
3) The “No, no, nope, oooh- aw no I didn’t meant to swipe left go back!” stage. AKA: The One that Got Away Stage. Despite the realisation that you’re lacking depth, you’re sticking with the idea that you’re never going to find anyone attractive on one of these sites and so increase the pace in which you swipe left to hurry up the useless process. Only to then see someone resembling a Greek God pop up before you subconsciously swipe left and lose them forever.
Relationships
Match!
4) The “Oh okay stop, he looks nice- aw look there’s even a puppy in his photo! * SWIPE RIGHT*” stage. AKA: The Honeymoon Stage. Having overcome our kiddie pool shallowness issues and lost count of how many times we’ve swiped left, we’ve finally seen someone we’re interested in and swiped right! So here begin the daydreams in which the realistic element of our brain runs away hand in hand with our sensible side and we let our imagination takeover thinking up numerous situations and experiences you could have with this person but will likely never happen- sorry but its true.
7) The “No I draw the line at sexting” stage. AKA: The Loss of Faith Stage This is when you realise why there hasn’t been a love story written about a couple who met on tinder. But you keep clinging onto the hope that maybe if you just tell him he’s crossed the line, the frog will turn back into a Prince?
NO
5) The “Okay so he still uses 2008 text talk...it’s okay I can’t judge him cause of that” stage. AKA: The “Do not judge” Stage.
You can’t cancel the 2-week holiday in the Maldives you’ve planned out- in your head- with him just because he says “l8r” and “wuu2”. So you start to tell yourself that no-ones perfect and this is a very little thing which probably doesn’t represent him as a person at all so there is no way you can see this as a problem. Maybe he is just super busy at his really successful job and he simply has not go the got time to write properly...right? Probably not but enjoy your naivety!
6) The“Woah, did he really just ask that?!” stage. AKA: The Realisation Stage. You thought you’d prepared for just about anything, but that? Maybe he was joking? Yeah he must have been. This is the stage at which you begin to realise that maybe the horror stories you’d heard about weren’t exaggerated at all and talking to complete strangers isn’t going to be as romantic as you’d thought.
8) The “No okay how do I block someone?” Stage
PE
AKA: The Lost Cause Stage
So your first experience on Tinder hasn’t gone as well as you had hoped; you’re beginning to realise that just because you want to meet your perfect match doesn’t mean you will- at least not right away. ith
9) The “Well this was a waste of time” stage AKA: The Acceptance Stage So you’ve given it your best shot, but it’s turned out to be exactly what you expected. All you’ve learnt is that there are some really weird people in the world and you should trust your first instincts. However, this experience has also taught you that you don’t have to settle just because you’re lonely- you’ve got all the time in the world to find “the one” and there’s no point in wasting time with
10) The “Oh he’s really good looking! *SWIPE RIGHT*” Stage AKA: The Rinse and Repeat Stage Despite your better judgement, the allure of meeting your soul mate by just a swipe of a fingerer takes over and so restarts the addictive cycle.
GOOD LUCK!

HOW TO:
Get over an ex..
Everyone has been through heartbreak or had an ex who they struggle
for a short time, yet it can affect people for months or even years. So wh 1. UNFRIEND THEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA
There is nothing worse than seeing their name pop up all over your social media, which is why you should un follow or un friend them. If you do not want to get rid of them completely, then just hide them from appearing on your news feed.
2. SPEND TIME WITH THE GIRLS
Spend time with your girlfriends. They will be able to cheer you up and tell you not to waste your tears on an ex.
3. NEW YOU
Change your look, for your sake not his. Don’t do nothing major but just tweak a few things about your appearance. It will make you feel refreshed!
4. SWEAT IT OUT
Take your anger and upset out at the gym. Working out reduces stress and will also tire you out, meaning no staying up till 3am stalking him and crying!
5. TREAT YOURSELF
This will make you feel relaxed. Take away the stress by having a manicure, massage or even just a big bubble bath.
