Nørrebro es uno de los diez distritos de Copenhague, situado al noroeste del centro urbano. Nació como suburbio para obreros a mediados del siglo XIX. Ahora, para muchos, es el barrio más cool, joven, multiétnico y dinámico de la capital danesa. Y es conocida la tolerancia y apertura de mente de sus habitantes. Es el barrio más internacional y el que más gusta a sus jóvenes residentes. Solo cinco años atrás era uno de los barrios más marginales. Hoy puedes gozar de sus improvisadas terrazas al sol o de sus cosmopolitas calles repletas de tiendas de toda procedencia. En el barrio se encuentra el cementerio con las tumbas de los daneses más ilustres de todos los tiempos, como H.C. Andersen o Kierkegaard, reconvertido en un fantástico jardín en verano y que hace las delicias de mitómanos y amantes de personajes históricos.

Nørrebro is one of the ten districts of Copenhagen, located to the northwest of the city centre. It came into being as a workers’ neighbourhood in the mid-nineteenth century. Today, it is a cool, young, dynamic and multiethnic part of the Danish capital, known for the tolerance and open-mindedness of the residents. It is the most international area of the capital, but nonetheless a favourite with young Danes. Only five years ago it was still a marginal area. Now visitors can enjoy its improvised café terraces and cosmopolitan streets with shops of all kinds and nationalities. For those who love a bit of cultural history, here you can find the cemetery containing the tombs of great Danes like H. C. Andersen and Kierkegaard, which has now been converted into a fantastic summer garden.

Sophia Cerqueira 23 años De padre portugués, Sophia debe su existencia a la romántica historia de amor entre sus progenitores, un par de convencidos comunistas que se conocieron en Rusia durante la Guerra Fría y que se fueron a vivir a ese país para estudiar cómo funcionaba el Partido desde dentro. No obstante, por avatares del destino, Sophia nacería aquí, en este barrio, y ahora trabaja en uno de los cafés más originales de Norrebrø, el Coffee Collective, que se encuentra en una callejuela repleta de rudas mesas y bancos de madera en una calle que intenta aprovechar los pocos rayos de sol. Un estilo más propio del sur de Europa. El local es como una cocina familiar, casera, donde prácticamente uno se puede hacer y servir su propio café si se descuida.

Sophia was born here; it is her neighbourhood. She has some Latin origins, through her Portuguese father, and owes her existence to the romantic story of her parents’ meeting. Both convinced Communists, they met in Russia during the Cold War. They were in the country to find out, from the inside, how the Party operated. Sophia works in one of the most original cafes in Nørrebro, the Coffee Collective. It is on a narrow street full of simple tables and wooden benches, placed so as to take advantage of the small patches of sunshine. It has a south European feeling. The place is like a family kitchen, and you get the feeling you could get up and make your own coffee if you felt like it.

Ingrid Svarstad 75 años

Nació en Munich, donde su padre vivía por aquel entonces. A su edad, se enorgullece de haber vivido prácticamente toda su vida en este barrio. Disfruta más que nunca de su diversidad de colores y clases sociales. Se queja un poco de sus escasos recursos. Es todavía un barrio de clase baja. Ella siempre se dedicó a la artesanía. A estas alturas, uno de los lugares más especiales para Ingrid está en el cementario de Norrebrø. Allí, por fúnebre que suene, tiene ya un sitio reservado. Un lugar precioso en verano, según dice. Se le ilumina la cara y sonríe: “En verano parece una playa. Todo el mundo va a tomar el sol. Es un paraje lleno de flores y de luz”. One of Ingrid’s favourite places is Nørrebro Cemetery. Even though it sounds a little morbid, she already has a place reserved there. It is a wonderful place in summer, she says. Her face lights up and she smiles: “It is like a beach in summer; everyone goes there to sunbathe. It is full of flowers and light.” People will walk over her remains, and those of Kierkegaard, and this idea makes her happy.

De ser así —que, en gran medida, lo es— los recetarios locales reflejarían la geografía de los países, algo que, en el caso de Cataluña, significa la unión de la costa mediterránea con unas montañas que van desde las sierras costeras a las cumbres pirenaicas. Fruto de esa combinación surge uno de los fundamentos de la cocina catalana: el Mar i muntanya (Mar y montaña), la unión en el plato de ingredientes procedentes del mar y de la huerta. Aparte de una larga historia (el primer libro de cocina catalana, el Lo llibre de Coch de Roberto de Nola, se fecha en 1529), la cocina catalana es una cocina con fundamentos. Sus salsas —el

Menorca es una infinidad de encuentros bellísimos con la materia pura, con la piedra, con el agua, con los cielos limpios y estrellados, con los árboles de altas miras, con uno mismo, tal vez... Menorca merece la pena ser vista de cerca, y no solo ver lo que se enseña sino también lo que no se ve.

Acabo de regresar de Berlín. Y me quedé asombrado de que las guías no reflejen lo que realmente representa la ciudad: el espíritu underground. El centro Tacheles, la discoteca Water Gate o las tiendas de ropa del barrio turco, en las que al entrar sientes que estás con el mismísimo Diógenes en persona, son patrimonio de ese Berlín más esencial que oficial.

Después de 6 meses y una inversión en el proyecto de renovación de 23 millones de euros, el hotel Hilton ha vuelto a abrir al público. En sus nuevas instalaciones destaca su nuevo bar, Atrium, y dentro de este, una instalación de arte, obra del artista iltaliano Jacopo Foggigi. La pieza central es impresionante. Mi hijo y yo nos enamoramos de esa obra en cuanto la vimos.

No he pisado un campo de fútbol en mi vida y creo que nunca he llegado a ver un partido entero en TV. Pero hace unos meses me convertí en hincha del Athletic. Fue durante mi visita a Bilbao, que coincidió con el partido que el equipo de la ciudad jugó contra el Manchester United en la Europa League. El ambiente previo al partido me impresionó. Todos y todo en Bilbao estaba customizado con los colores del Athletic. Yo no quise ser menos así que me hice con una bufanda rojiblanca y celebré la victoria del equipo como uno más.

Las playas de Malta tienen mucho que envidiar a las de España. Casi no existen las playas de arena. Sin embargo, la erosión -con la ayuda del hombre- ha hecho que las incómodas rocas se conviertan en agradables piscinas. Esto ocurre, por ejemplo, en Sliema, localidad situada en la costa al noroeste de la isla. Las piscinas se suceden una tras otra y son lo suficientemente profundas como para zambullirse sin miedo a rocas o corrientes marinas.

Everyone and everything in Bilbao was decked out in Athletic Bilbao colours. I didn’t want to stand out, so I joined in with a red and white scarf and celebrated the team’s victory along with everyone else.

The beaches of Malta are nothing like the ones in Spain: there are practically no sandy beaches. However, erosion -with the help of man- has turned uncomfortable rocks into attractive swimming pools. You can see this in places like Sliema, a town on the northwest coast of the island. There are plenty of these pools, which are deep enough so you can dive in without fear of hitting the bottom, and there are no currents to disturb your swim.

Cada vez me gusta más el turismo funerario. Me explico, no es que vaya de vampira por la vida de cementerio en cementerio, pero cuando visito una ciudad me gusta conocer sus cementerios porque la forma de morir dice mucho de la forma de vivir. Me aficioné en el parisino de Père-Lachaise, donde descansa Jim Morrison. El judío de Praga me sobrecogió y el Highgate londinense me fascinó. Cuirosamente, el cementerio Novodevichy me ha divertido gracias a su explícita forma de dejar constancia de la actividad profesional a la que se dedicaban los muertos.

Situado a un lado de la plaza de Antón Martín descubrí el restaurante Perlora que, para mi, es uno de los pocos reductos que quedan de la filosofía slow food en la ciudad. Los camareros te tratan como un rey. Desde el momento en que entras hasta el momento que sales están muy pendientes de ti. Te explican muy bien de donde proviene cada plato. Especialmente recomendables las navajas, ostras y anchoas acompañadas por un Albariño artesanal que traen de una hacienda pequeña de Galicia. Me sentí como si estuviera en otra época más inocente, amable y menos hostil.

Mi objetivo era ver el famoso Drago milenario de Icod de los Vinos, en Tenerife. Y eso es lo que hice en mi última visita a la isla. Pero mi sorpresa fue descubrir al lado un auténtico jardín tropical donde volaban en libertad cientos de mariposas de todos los colores y procedencias del mundo. Era un mariposario, algo que creía reservado a los países del sudeste asiático. Allí se pueden ver desde exóticas especies de 30 cm de envergadura a la cría de las orugas y el nacimiento de las mariposas.
