Print Yorkshire to raise money for The Printing Charity
Océ sponsors Fidelity Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials
Robert McClements (l) and Garrick Staples (r) with the 1959 VW convertible they will be driving in the Peking to Paris Car Rally Robert McClements, Print Yorkshire’s Chief Executive, is taking part in the 2010 Peking to Paris Car Rally to help raise £25,000 for The Printing Charity, the national charity in the UK for the printing and publishing industries. Reading “The Mad Motorists”, the riveting account of the 1907 challenge to take a horseless carriage from Peking to Paris captivated Robert as a 14-year old boy. Invited by Garrick Staples, an American entrant in this year’s rally, to be his co-driver and navigator in a 1959 VW convertible, Robert will be fulfilling his boyhood dream and raising money for charity at the same time. He says: “I’m excited and nervous but conditions will be better than those in 1907 when there were no roads to follow for the first 5,000 miles, no maps and no petrol stations en route. In fact, no one was expected to survive but they did. “If you would like to sponsor me on this epic journey, you can do so online at www.theprintingcharity.org.uk or by calling 01293 542 820. The printing industry has been a significant part of my life, so this is a great opportunity for me to support the industry’s charity.” Stephen Gilbert, Chief Executive of The Printing Charity, says: “We’re delighted that Robert has chosen the charity to benefit from his participation in this adventure of a lifetime. People will be able to follow his rally progress via his blog on our website.” Drivers will set off from the Great Wall of China on 10 September, travelling across the Gobi Desert, through Mongolia into Russia, Iran, Turkey, Greece, and Italy to arrive 37 days and 10,000 miles later at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. For further information, please contact Robert McClements, Chief Executive, Print Yorkshire, 01924 203 338 or email robert. mcclements@printyorkshire.com

Cornish Printer broadens digital capabilities R Booth Ltd, the Cornish commercial printer, has invested in a Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press to support the company’s growing digital print division. Increased customer demand for short run, high quality digital print has led to the commercial printer investing in a new Xerox printer. In a deal won by Xerox partner Portrayal, R Booth Ltd will also use the new device to expand its product portfolio and secure incremental business. A shift in customer demand towards digital print production and a need to maintain quality led to the company working closely with Xerox channel partner, Portrayal, to identify the right technology for them now and in the future. After careful evaluation, R Booth Ltd and Portrayal matched the Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press to its business needs. Neil Richards, repro graphic manager at R Booth Ltd, said, “Although we are primarily a litho business, in recent years the demand for short run digital printing has vastly increased. As a result, we looked to replace existing digital equipment with a machine that was robust enough to handle growing digital print volumes. Thanks to our long standing relationship with Portrayal, we were able to grow our family of
production print equipment to include the Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press.” Peter Taylor, director and general manager, Large Enterprise & Graphic Communications, Xerox UK, added, “A successful print business is built on consistently delivering high quality documents. R Booth Ltd recognised that as it grows the digital part of its business, there is a need to ensure consistency and quality across a wider spectrum of products. The Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press will enable R
Booth Ltd to continue to deliver on its reputation of producing quality digital products.” Nick Orme, Chief Executive, Portrayal said, “The installation of the Xerox 700 Digital Colour Press clearly demonstrates the longevity of the Portrayal - R Booth Ltd relationship. Through an understanding of their business we have been able to provide the right equipment as their digital printing requirements have grown.” www.xerox.co.uk

New large format printers combine colour accuracy with high productivity
The 24-inch Epson Stylus Pro 7890 and the 44-inch Epson Stylus Pro 9890 have been designed to help the proofing and display graphics markets create accurate prints at high speed. Using Epson’s 8-colour UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta inkset in combination with the TFP
print head for enhanced dot quality and crisp, clear images, means both printers produce top quality results. They achieve one of the highest colour gamuts on the market with consistently smooth gradations, ideal for the perfect reproduction of challenging skin tones and detailed textures. Three densities of black, comprising a standard photo or matte black (selected automatically depending on the media) plus a light black and light light black, create a perfect tonal range. This combination of black inks also means that prints are free from bronzing, with a uniform surface appearance without discernible difference between light and dark areas. In addition metamerism is reduced, ensuring grey tones are consistent no matter what light source they are viewed under. The optional in-line SpectroProofer ensures consistent, repeatable colour accuracy when using different media, rapidly measuring control strips and colour charts when creating ICC profiles and print
verification results. Martin Johns, market development manager for large format printers at Epson UK, says: “Not only do the Epson Stylus Pro 7890 and Epson Stylus Pro 9890 offer first class colour reproduction but they also represent a big boost in productivity. They have a high production speed aided by Epson’s Automatic Droplet Detection System to identify blocked nozzles without intervention. Both devices carry photo and matte black inks simultaneously and the built-in rotary knife means prints are cut quickly and cleanly while the improved supply handling means paper rolls are changed effortlessly in seconds. “These features offer significant benefits in terms of saved cost and time to our customers.” The Epson Stylus Pro 7890 is priced at £2595 and the Epson Stylus Pro 9890 is priced at £5195. Both models will be available to purchase from 1st January 2011. www.epson.co.uk
Roland extends metallic ink printer range Following the strong uptake of the VersaCAMM VS-640 with its metallic and white ink capabilities, Roland DG (UK) has extended the choice offered by its innovative print and cut technology with the addition of three cost effective more compact models. Designated the VersaCAMM VS-540, VS-420 and VS-300, the 1.37 m, 1.07 m and 0.76 m printers utilise the same dedicated feed and print-head mechanism as the 1.62 m version, offering users the benefits of advanced ink handling technology and high quality results. The versatile Roland VersaCAMM VS family is available in three options, with a CMYKLcLm configuration plus metallic and white and a standard six colour ink version. The third solution for users wanting to benefit from fast, economical production is for dual CMYK which is aligned in a mirrored array for achieving quality output at higher production speeds. The VersaCAMM VS series also benefits from Roland OnSupport which gives users remote tracking capabilities of their printers’ activities. This on-line support system automatically sends e-mails direct to a computer or mobile phone with important notifications, such as when a job has been completed or when ink is running low. This feature enables the printer to run unattended as operators can rely on receiving real time critical production information when they are away from the machine. Being able to run the machine unattended is also enhanced by the printer’s advanced media handling system. The take up unit on the VS enables it to automatically rewind the media after printing so that it’s perfectly positioned for the subsequent contour cutting. Once complete, it then moves the contour cut output onto the take up, all without any operator intervention. In common with their larger counterpart, the three new Roland VersaCAMM VS machines are designed from the ground up to incorporate the company’s Eco-Sol Max metallic and white inks. These are complemented by CMYKLcLm which, combined with the specially configured print-head array, output stunning results that also benefit from the company’s library of more than 500 metallic shades. It is straightforward to integrate metallic colours, pearlescent shades and white into signs and displays onto all industry standard materials which are compatible with Roland’s Eco-Sol Max inks. The VersaCAMM VS family also benefits from the company’s pioneering print and cut capabilities, enabling precision contour cutting 8
of signs, stickers, decals and labels all of which can be raised to new creative dimensions with the inclusion of metallic and white elements. Spurred on by the immediate success following the initial launch of metallic ink in its SolJet Pro III XC-540MT print and cut machine, Roland designed and engineered the very compact and remarkably low-priced VersaCAMM VS-640. This machine, which was launched in February 2010, takes precision one step further with a newly designed print-head configured in an array to enable high-speed bi-directional production without banding. The construction of the ink feed in the VersaCAMM VS series is designed to accommodate the viscosity of both metallic and white formulations, ensuring accurate and seamless integration with the standard colour palette. Users are guaranteed easy and consistent operation, with Roland’s recirculation system keeping the inks mixed and in the correct suspension which eliminates clogging of the particles and costly, time consuming maintenance and cleaning cycles. Roland’s Intelligent Pass Control and the greater range from the variable dots generated by the new generation print-head result in consistently vibrant and accurate output, with smooth gradations and vivid solid shades. The integrated recirculation function in the VersaCAMM VS range of machines means that there are no fluctuations in density, and the correct combination of metallic, white and colours is assured during printing. Aware of the opportunities available using metallic and white inks in a versatile print and cut unit, Roland’s decision to launch three smaller versions of its existing low-cost 1.62 m machine brings the technology within reach of the growing volumes of users wanting a compact solution for narrower width production. This is particularly important for the label and decal market sectors, both of which are becoming vital areas for sign-makers, display producers and commercial printers looking for higher margin, top quality ink-jet applications. Because all Roland printers are supplied with the company’s versatile VersaWorks RIP, it is easy for users to integrate metallics and white into their workflow without having to invest in additional software. Using any industry standard graphics’ package, the RIP interprets the metallic layers available in the Roland Color System Library and blends them with process colours and white for dazzling results formerly only achievable using the screen process or offset litho. www.rolanddg.co.uk Copy Shop News | October 2010

XEIKON ANNOUNCES NEW SERIES SIMPLY
Xeikon announces the expansion of its successful family of digital label presses to four models which are now collectively named the Xeikon 3000 Series and includes one completely new model –the Xeikon 3050– and an upgraded replacement for the original Xeikon 3000 model called the Xeikon 3030. The new entry level Xeikon 3030 will be introduced worldwide at the Labelexpo Americas exhibition in Chicago (14 -16 September 2010), where the recently announced flagship model, Xeikon 3500, will also be demonstrated for the first time in North America. “Since we introduced the Xeikon 3000 at Labelexpo Americas 2008 and the Xeikon 3300 at drupa 2008, our sales revenues in the label market have grown substantially despite the economic downturn,” says Filip Weymans, Business Development Manager Labels & Packaging at Xeikon. “Label applications are ideal to take advantage of the flexibility of our technology. Our award winning presses now form the strongest and broadest range in the market, from the new entry-level Xeikon 3030 up to the Xeikon 3500, which is the most productive digital label press in the market.” The four presses all deliver the same print quality and are divided into two maximum web widths: 330 mm (13”) and 516 mm (20.3”), with each width available in entry level or the higher productivity versions. Entry level versions are designed to be field upgraded to the wider and/or faster specifications as the user’s business grows, without having to make any concessions in print quality. All models can print on an unrivalled range of substrates without pre-coat, including various self adhesive materials such as co-extruded films, Bopp, PVC and PET, paperboards, paper with weights ranging from 40 to 350 gsm and transparent and opaque foils.
The Xeikon 3000 Series line-up
Xeikon 3030: the newly upgraded 330 mm (13”) web width entry model that makes it easy for label converters to produce their applications digitally. The press is field upgradeable to any of the higher Xeikon models allowing customers to grow as their business expands. The Xeikon 3030 replaces the original Xeikon 3000. It features the latest enhancements to the print engine and runs the QA-I toner. The print speed is up to 9,6 m/ min (31.5 ft/min). Existing Xeikon 3000 presses can be upgraded the new Xeikon 3030. This press also runs at up to 9,6 m/ min (31.5 ft/min) and is upgradable to a Xeikon 3500. Xeikon 3300: Xeikon’s best selling high volume label press, built for use with the most common web width of 330 mm (13”), but also capable of handling a web width as narrow as 200 mm (7.9”), running at speeds up to 19,2 m/min (63 ft/min). Xeikon 3500: the flagship model, announced in May 2010, comes with a printing speed of 19,2 m/min (63 ft/ min) and the wider 516 mm (20.3”) maximum web width (and also capable of handling a web width as narrow ad 250 mm (9.8”), making it the most productive label press today. The press can produce up to 570 square meters (6,135 square ft) per hour on a wide range of substrates. The Xeikon 3500 allows label converters to digitally address a wider range of applications and opens up new opportunities to maximize digital production.
Continuous innovation dedicated to label production
All presses of the Xeikon 3000 Series include the latest enhancements to the print station and are based on Xeikon’s LED toner print engine technology. The full rotary printing, with variable repeat length, ensures that speed is not affected by the label size nor the number of colors used. ollowing the success of its VersaUV LEC-330 innovative roll and sheet fed UV-curable print and cut solution, Roland DG (UK) has introduced a 1370 mm (54 inch) version which will appeal to users looking for high quality and niche application areas. Incorporating the company’s LED curing technology and flexible inks, which include a highly opaque white and clear varnish, the new VersaUV LEC-540 is designed to output very fine quality displays, customised and prototyped packaging, control panels, labels and decals as well as industrial applications. With a maximum resolution of 1,440 x 1,440 dpi and the ability to support thicker/rigid materials up to 1 mm, the Roland VersaUV LEC-540 benefits from a refined LED curing system for long life high production, and a new ink circulation system for lower running costs. The integrated cutting capabilities of the LEC-540 now incorporate new cutting, perforating and creasing tools, with the machine’s table unit enabling thicker
materials to be handled efficiently. Its versatility enables users to produce a vast range of high quality printed, cut, creased and folded applications from a single system, enhanced by the ability to output sophisticated gloss and matte textures. Included with the VersaUV LEC-540, as with all Roland ink-jet systems, is the company’s VersaWorks RIP. Fine detail and sharp, clear text are enhanced with the use of Roland Intelligent Pass Control technology, with ease of set-up and production level print speeds allowing time saving and efficient throughput of single and multiple jobs. Users can choose from three ink combinations of CMYK plus white and clear, CMYK plus two white ink channels for high opacity or CMYK plus two clear varnish channels, ideal for multi-layer effects. New digital paper
A new digital paper that is guaranteed suitable for digital presses, copiers and multifunction machines has been launched by Premier Paper Group. Silver Image Laser is also the glossiest colour laser paper on the market and boasts unrivalled productivity, economy and print quality. Premier’s digital sales director, John Vic, explains: “Silver Image Laser is a huge advance in digital papers. It has been designed especially for colour laser printing and has features that provide the consistency and running reliability that anyone operating digital presses or copiers needs. For example it has a special surface treatment that helps to achieve a perfect image and a single coating that make it particularly resistant to blistering. “Consistent conductivity throughout the sheet means that it achieves best toner adhesion and that, combined with high stiffness and bulk means that it delivers excellent results time after time. Dependable performance also adds to quality and economy, with virtually no misfeeds. This means every click you pay for is a quality impression that you can sell.” Silver Image Laser has been extensively laboratory tested and at the recent IPEX exhibition, it was subjected to one of the most probing tests of all; being the chosen stock used by Ricoh to demonstrate its latest equipment 12
vinyls, films and papers, artists’ canvases and industrial products. Its long-life LED curing lamps ensure finished prints need no additional drying time, and its fine quality output is suitable for very close viewing. “We’re pleased to add this wider version of Roland’s UV-curable print and cut technology to our portfolio of versatile ink-jet products,” states Brett Newman, Technical Director of Roland DG (UK). “The potential of the VersaUV is continually being discovered by users wanting to move into niche markets where special effects across a wide range of materials and different types of application can be produced to very exacting standards. The generous size of this new machine will enable increasingly innovative displays to be created and generated whilst the improved cutting and creasing tools benefit the labelling, prototyping and packaging sectors.” www.rolanddg.co.uk
under the scrutiny of some of the UK and Europe’s most demanding print professionals. In front of exhibition goers, Ricoh produced a yachting magazine and a special edition, fully bound version of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Andy Campbell, Printing Innovations manager at Ricoh Europe said: “Silver Image Laser was thoroughly tested prior to IPEX at our European Media Qualification Centre and it was used on all of our presses, both digital and multifunctional throughout the eight day event. Its runablity, reliability and quality ensured that I didn’t have to worry about media for the stand during the event. The two finished printed samples that we produced shone.” Available in three surfaces — Gloss, Matt and Supergloss — substance ranges from 115-350gsm and standard A4, A3 and SRA3 sizes, Silver Image Laser is printable on both sides and offers accurate cutting and finishing for perfect registration. Supergloss is a unique one sided high gloss sheet, printable on both sides and available in 160, 210 and 250gsm. It has an incredible gloss tappi of 90%, making it the glossiest laser paper on the market. Silver Image Laser is FSC certified and the mill holds the ISO14001 standard. NEW BUSINESS
Print your own wallpaper!?
You can personalise virtually everything these days it seems – so why not offer a personalised wallpaper service? Equipped with the right printer, relatively simple software and a choice of papers and vinyls you can produce some stunning wall coverings, murals and wall art. much more. Mirage is a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop and InDesign which gives unlimited print length. It is designed to work with all Epson Stylus Pro printers and allows you to print directly without the need for RIPs. Think carefully about the printer you use. It really should be an eco-solvent based printer to produce stunning and long lasting results. The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 64in large format inkjet printer uses its own specially developed Ultrachrome GS 8-colour inks, which are eco-solvent type inks and so low in VOCs so what little smell there is on printing, quickly disappears. No additional ventilation is required so it can be sited in a normal working environment. This is a flexible workhorse and can produce a huge variety of display products – not just for budding and professional interior designers, but for popular display graphics applications too. Once a luxury of the super rich, bespoke wallpaper is now making its way into a home near you. Get ahead of the trend and investigate this exciting new market. Explore the Stylus Pro GS6000 at www.epson.co.uk and exceed your vision. The creative potential of home and office walls is endless. You can turn rooms into forest clearings, create your own designs and murals or blow up favourite photographs and maps and cover the walls. Home makeover television programmes have shown what can be achieved quite easily without it costing the earth and put it within reach of everyone. Commercial interiors are also seeing an unprecedented rise in creative wall coverings, from a simple pattern of corporate logos and brand identities to creative interpretations of the nature of the business, as architects begin to realise that the design inside of buildings is as important as the exterior.
Wall paper printing is not as complicated as you might think. There are a few considerations to bear in mind. Kitchen and bathroom wall coverings need to be more robust than bedroom wallpaper. Do you want it to be textured, smooth, washable etc? Design and printer software can often limit the size of a print. Although Adobe InDesign has a maximum page length of 5.4m, not every application is so generous, and some wall coverings may require

FEATURE
Evolve from Design to Print
Design and print company Box 3 Creative Studio have enhanced their rapidly expanding print division with the introduction of a Duplo DC-445 creaser with integrated folder, purchased from The Finishing Point.
T
he Midlands based company, established in 2005, have seen their business grow from a predominantly design business into a fully fledged design and print outfit as Shaun Goddard, partner explains; “We began as a design company as that is the collective core skill and passion of the three partners of Box 3. However, we have come from a print background so we all understand print and what it takes to run a print business. It was not long until we realised that we should strongly consider offering print as part of our services to give a ‘complete solution’ to our customers.” In 2006 they invested in a Xerox DocuColor 250 to enable them to cater for the shorter run jobs from clients, where it was deemed too expensive and time consuming to send out to commercial print. Then, with run lengths falling and quicker turnaround times 18
in higher demand, Box 3 decided to bolster their print service. “We started with the Xerox but we soon found that the finishing area was where we were bottlenecking. We only had hand finishing to start with but our ‘complete solution service’ gave us a lot of referral work which put pressure on our processes. It was clear we needed to consider an all in one finishing solution that ticked lots of boxes”. He continued, “We liked The Finishing Point as they had been extremely proactive with the service support for our IDEAL guillotine, and they really understood our issues on the finishing side and offered us a great solution. We then invested in the DC-445 which immediately freed up the bottleneck of hand creasing, and enabled us to cut, crease and perforate in one pass. It made a very big difference, very quickly.” “However, we were still having to
hand fold.” Having recognised the need for automatic folding, the plan was to first consolidate the new creaser, gain more business, then invest in a folder to become more efficient in the future. “It wasn’t our intention to re-invest in the print room until 2011. However we went to IPEX and we were really impressed by the ease of use, flexibility and speed of the Integrated Folder that went inline to the DC-445. We could see a direct benefit with making this purchase to our customers receiving an improved service, so we brought our investments plans forward and we haven’t looked back since.” comments Shaun. Duplo’s recently launched Integrated Folding System allows printers to fully finish different applications such as greeting cards, CD covers, folded ‘tent’ business cards, brochures, leaflets and many more without additional
operators. The knife folder incorporates two knife folds making it ideal for parallel fold applications such as letter and gate folds. With a speed of up to 50 sheets per minute, the new folder matches the capabilities of Duplo’s DC445 and can also be by passed for no fold applications. The DC-445 can cater up to 350gsm, up to 15 creases on one sheet and features optional perforation and slitter modules. Box 3 have found that on a particular 4pp A4 job they could save up to two hours production time (including print and finishing), on a run of 1,000 copies. They have even begun taking back litho work from their trade printers, after the printing stage, then finishing in house which has enabled them to “gain back the control of our printing, and offer a smoother service to our client base”. www.box-3.co.uk www.thefinishingpoint.co.uk Copy Shop News | October 2010

DIGITAL IMAGING
Stand and Deliver Love it or loathe it you cannot ignore it. The social neworking site is a part of the daily life of a large part of the developed world’s population and will only become more invasive. Martin Christie, writes....
I
f you think this is just for spotty teenagers and sad anoraks who never get out or have a life in the real world, think again. Of Facebook’s reported 500 million users worldwide, more than half access the site at some time every day. This is too large and valuable a resource to ignore, and is a highly practical way of passing on message and details as well as images. Most businesses now trading on the web find it essential to have a Facebook and a Twitter to have a dialogue with potential customers. If Jenson Button ( “The_Real_JB” to you tweeters) has got time to twitter his fans from the McClaren garage during a Grand Prix, then a print shop can surely find a few moments to talk to the world about its services. That’s outputting information, but just as important is the input if you are going to use this resource as a commercial tool. It’s impossible to predict the future of Facebook itself, but with the complimentary development of sophisticated mobile phones with complex networking capabilities, it’s inevitable that instant image access will be an accessory as essential as a watch. Of course, we now take the receiving of files by email as a matter of routine, and large files by shared server sites as normal practice. Images from web sites directly always have resolution issues, because they tend to be small files from the outset. Those from shared sites like FB are more of an issue because they will have been altered, compressed and generally doctored by the software used in uploaded, so that regardless of apparent size, deterioration in quality will have occurred. A couple of high street retailers have tried to exploit this resource with file sharing accounts but with varied success. Essentially any downloaded prints will be limited on size of enlargement, and may be corrupted not just in colour registration and clarity, but in fragmentation of pixels. Stretching and squeezing of the original may also take place which will be exaggerated in any reproduction. Software boffins are working on the problem inevitably, as manufacturers can see the potential growth area. Fujifilm, who supply many of the surviving high street mini lab outlets, are introducing a new SmartPix software that will allow customers to download
20
images directly from Facebook to the printer kiosk. Fujifilm customers can also upload images direct to their server. On line storage of original images is obviously the answer to retain quality and convenience of transfer, and a number of image library sites are available. This, and the archive and cataloging issues that go with multiple file saving - do you save it by name, or date or location etc - are likely to be beyond the average customer. In fact by
its very nature print on demand service usually means that it is a spur of the moment decision rather than a planned one. The printer has to be able to react to immediate needs and not expect the customer to have forthought ! How many times a day do you hear at the counter “Yes, but we need it today” regardless of any practical considerations of time or other physical issues. You can stick your head in the sand and declare it’s not your problem,
but if there is a solution, you can be the hero of the day, or at least charge a premium for resolving it. And that is as true for designers who have spent all the available lead-in time on origination, and left no time for the actual production, as the off the street customer who needs an instant present of a mug or a T shirt taken from a mobile phone. Sometimes it’s just a case of what you can do in the time and at such a price. Mitsubishi may not be one of the prominent names in the copy shop environment, but with a long history of practical image solutions in medical and industrial context their products tend not only to be top quality, but bullet proof. After visiting Colour Division in London some months ago, where Mitsubishi’s Easy Photo self-service photo printers have been successfully blended into a busy digital print shop, we had a chance to pop one on the counter in Brighton for an extended period for a proper evaluation. The principle is hardly new, but the package is. Kodak came to us over eight years ago with one of their early stand alone yellow boxes and I was fairly sceptical about it at the time. Even my limited experience of copy shop customers at that time left me in no doubt that their idea of a customer friendly press and print interface might be fine in the calm confines of Kodak’s R&D room, but would drive the on demand instant market to distraction. Things have moved on. We have all (or most of us) had to learn to be more computer literate and savy in order to do the simplest of things like filling in a form or purchasing a railway ticket, so a touch screen with options is a more familiar sight. All the manufacturers have learned from those early development days. As well as the controls, they have also had to keep pace with the huge scale increase of image size and quantity. When they were introduced, stand alone kiosks had to swallow nothing larger than an 8mb card which came with most compact cameras as standard. Now an 8GB would not be a surprise, with all the additional computing capacity and complication that it demands. The beauty of Mitsubishi’s little box of tricks is that it comes in two solid pieces, compact computer and screen, and the printer, a CP9550DW, connected by USB cable. This means the touch screen can be placed on the counter and the printer itself elsewhere if need be, rather than the standard piggy back arrangement. Either way it’s not a massive footprint in the shop, and most counters should be able to accommodate it. The good thing about having the Copy Shop News | October 2010
DIGITAL IMAGING
screen close to the main counter is that staff can monitor (no pun intended) activity. This is not just a safety but a sales issue. Add on value is suggesting additional services for particular images - inkjet enlargements, canvas etc. Mitsubishi themselves have a selection of handy products, books and calendars, for instant gifts, as well as lots of attractive point of sale to go with them. The basic printer is a roll fed dye sublimation type capable of 4x6 in standard prints, photographic quality and surface laminated. This is tried

and tested technology that produces faultless images with no issues of wastage on prints that have gone wrong through being the wrong colour or having lines like toner printers trying to reproduce full colour photographs. If the customer wants photo quality, this is it. Sure it’s only a small sized print, but it’s the standard handy for home albums and table frames, and it’s a nice little product to compliment the digital print shop either for one offs or longer runs. You can offer a one-off print for around 46 pence and make a heatlhy profit,
or come down to half that or less for batch runs. Each paper roll will rattle out about 600 prints, and you can rely on it to just do that without a misfeed. Just remember to empty the catch tray ! The computer can be password protected for several users. You can set price per unit and per quantity which is added and totalled on the screen as the customer makes selection and has to accept the transaction before printing occurs. If you don’t want the customer in control, you can just operate the printing for them. It can additionally be plugged into a receipt printer. The working face of the computer takes all manner of cards and sticks as you might expect - can burn cds or dvds, and accept phone images via bluetooth. The last little trick is quite handy for those instant gift images mentioned earlier. Taking a low resolution phone image and creating a relatively high resolution hard copy gives you a fairly decent original to work from rather than trying to manipulate a digital version. A decent scan from it might well enlarge several times. We let everyone have a play with the Mitsubishi Easy Print without instruction as a test and nobody had any problem with it. They all agreed it was user friendly. I must admit the customers didn’t include the elderly gentleman I overheard in another high street outlet trying to argue with the automated voice machine in an instant passport booth. There’s always an exception. Small quality printers like the Mitsubishi are the perfect answer to
the instant internet generation’s needs. The Easy Photo and printer are priced around £1500. Alongside the Easy Print, we also had Mitsubishi’s larger model, the CP3899DW, capable of 8x10in and up to A4 sized prints. We liked the old CP3020 model so much when we tested it some years ago that we bought one. The new one is roll fed and much more economical and convenient for longer runs. If you have a regular demand for photo quality then this is the beast to have in the stable. It produces superb quality prints from any application including Windows Photo Print as the machine’s own colour profiling is extremely consistent. With sublimation ink there are no heads to block or toner to streak, so as with its smaller stable mate, there is no issue of faulty prints in the bin. Needless to say other mini photo printers are available, but we can happily recommend Mitsubishi’s solutions after a long and successful professional relationship. PaperCo joins the Prince’s Mayday Network PaperCo has joined the Prince’s Mayday Network, a campaign started by HRH Prince of Wales when he stated that: “Climate Change is the greatest challenge facing mankind today and we only have a very small window of opportunity to act.” Part of Business in the Community, the Prince’s Mayday network operates to inspire, engage, support and challenge as many businesses as possible as they work together towards a sustainable future. “PaperCo is already working in conjunction with Defra (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and other key Government departments. We were identified in 2008 as one of 20 key suppliers to participate in the Carbon Disclosure Project – Supply Chain Leadership Collaborator (SCLC) project - and have made a submission annually since then. The Carbon Disclosure Project aims to understand how business captures and interprets its carbon impacts. We are also on the All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group held at the House of Commons,” says Veronica Heaven, corporate responsibility director of PaperCo. In 2007 the company’s CO2 emissions were put at 24
14,791 tonnes per annum. By 2020 it is committed to lowering that figure to 10,410 tonnes. It is doing so by looking at ways of reducing energy used by heating, cooling and lighting and by having responsible company car and distribution policies. Only recently PaperCo announced that printers using 9lives “born again” paper from PaperCo can now be supplied with an A4 environmental statement giving the specific savings the product has achieved in reducing landfill, litres of water, electricity, CO₂ and wood. The statement can be tailored for a given job and this project will continue to evolve in future. “We continue to support our customers wishing to progress to a more sustainable future and during this month and October will run a series of Environmental Matters seminars around the UK. Already we are PEFC and FSC certified and over 80% of the products we supply are Chain of Custody approved,” says Veronica Heaven. “Sustainability matters and we are delighted to join the Prince’s Mayday Network and share our methods of measuring, monitoring and reducing our carbon footprint with like-minded organisations.”
PaperCo adds another 100% recycled stock Offcuts from the manufacture of polycoated products like McDonalds cups and Ben & Jerry ice cream cartons are enjoying a second life as a 100% recycled paper Harmony Smooth. This paper for the copying and digital printing markets is ideal for corporate presentations, price lists, sales reports and proposals. It is supplied in 90 and 105 gsm weight with A4 and A3 formats and in SRA3 in 105 gsm weight only. Chris Smith, who has recently been appointed Coated & Digital product manager, says: “This is part of our programme of expanding the choice of digital stocks, a market which requires papers that perform well and stand out from the crowd. Harmony Smooth has excellent printability qualities and produces sharp images. It also has fantastic environmental credentials, using products that would otherwise go to landfill to produce a paper that features a high bright shade and a super smooth surface.” PaperCo has strong environmental credentials and is able to offer expert advice on the sourcing of sustainable Chain of Custody certified and recycled stocks. This autumn it is running a series of procurement workshops throughout the UK. www.paperco.co.uk Copy Shop News | October 2010

Mondi announces digital printing paper DNS: Digital Needs Specialists Mondi is introducing DNS as its new brand of uncoated fine papers. “DNS was developed with the requirements of digital specialists in mind. We recognised that professional printers needed a single paper they could rely on in an industry that demands a lot of versatility,” explains Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director for Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper. DNS premium is the first product to stem from the DNS brand. It is produced for use on digital production machines and dry toner machines such as iGen and Nexpress, as well as office laser printers, inkjet printers and copiers, making it a multifaceted product for use in both professional press rooms and offices. “The launch of DNS is an exciting milestone in the growth of our digital printing paper portfolio,” says Klumpp. “DNS premium is also pre-print guaranteed and suitable for offset printing, which is an attractive feature for professional printers, as having one paper on stock for every printing press is now a realistic option.” DNS premium has a high whiteness factor that shows excellent contrast for text and graphic printouts. Due to ColorLok Technology, office inkjet printers with pigmented ink can also create impressive full colour brochures, presentations or other printed materials that demand high impact colour saturation. DNS premium can be recognised by its purple wrapper with the digital motif of a hand, operating a touch screen.
Fresh new look for Color Copy packaging Color Copy has announced its newly designed paper wrapper and CO2 neutral status. The new customer-friendly packaging incorporates a modernised design with more product and environmental information. Following the decision to switch from a transparent plastic wrapper to a paper one, Mondi also decided to make it an enviromentally friendly CO2 neutral product. Customers will still recognise Color Copy by its playful cyan, magenta, and yellow design; however, the wrapper now clearly displays the paper’s environmental accreditations, grammage and format. Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director for Uncoated Fine Paper, explains the motivation for the design change: “The environment is a main concern for our customers and for Mondi. The new paper wrapper displays the FSC, Green Range, EU Ecolabel, and CO2 neutral logos directly on the front side, while further environmental information is detailed on the back of the ream..” As a fully CO2 neutral product, Color Copy offers customers an additional environmental advantage. Like every other industrial process, the production of Color Copy emits CO2. These emissions are neutralised through verified emission reduction programmes that Mondi invests in. By purchasing Color Copy the customer takes a more proactive role in reducing CO2 emissions and countering the effects of climate change. Color Copy is available in grammages from 90 to 350 gsm, and A4, A3, SRA3, A3+, folio formats, continuous web reels and Xeikon reels. Color Copy is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified and is part of Mondi’s Green Range family. All Green Range papers are FSC-certified, totally chlorine free (TCF) or 100% recycled. Christmas with that Magic Touch
It’s that time again, and I believe some people have started or even finished their Christmas shopping. And then……does anybody actually enjoy wrapping the presents? Luckily for us, and with a little bit of help from our friends at The MagicTouch it is possible to personalise gift boxes, so when the queue at your counter waiting for their Christmas cards to be printed ( and at the same time complaining that they all that wrapping to do), why not suggest you make them some gift boxes. Using your existing heat press, soft pad and the CPM 6.2 or 6.4 transfer papers, images, photos or logos can be printed in full colour onto the flat silver surface of the boxes. Once decorated the box can be easily formed and fixed using double sided adhesive tape. The products when printed can remain flat to enable them to be posted economically and reduce any potential damage in transit to the end user who can then add the desired contents. All three versions are perfect for the traditional corporate gift sectors, the bottle box in particular enables the customer to brand and personalise to maximum effect. The recipient may drink the contents, but they will always keep the box. Both the small and medium size have a multitude of applications including wedding cake, jigsaws, lingerie, t-shirts, jewellery, soaps, cosmetics, sweets and chocolate or that secret special something! The bottle version accommodates wine, spirits and champagne for all year round occasions such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, awards or recognition etc. www.themagictouch.co.uk

BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING
Public Sector Contracts In spite of the spending squeeze, the Government is pushing ahead with its strategy to make public sector contracts easier for small businesses to bid for and win. CSN has teamed with BCP specialist Crisis Survivor to investigate how CSMA group members can best win new business tenders.

T
he annual public sector spend on tenders is £175bn and, in the 2010 budget, the Government announced intention to increase by 15% over a three year period the volume of procurement spend by central and local government going to SMEs through contracts and the supply chain. From December 2010, suppliers will be able to access contracting and sub-contracting opportunities through a new portal. The portal will be free and offer support to SMEs through a free to use training package after the existing supply2. gov.uk site attracted criticism from business owners for its awkward navigation and charges to use the site. Since the introduction of the Civil Contingencies Act in 2004, all publicly funded work has required that suppliers have a Business Continuity Plan. Defined by BS 25999-1 British Standards Institution’s Code of Practice for Business Continuity Management, “BCP is an holistic management process that identifies potential threats to an organisation and the impacts to business operations that those threats, if realised, might cause, and which provides a framework for building organisational resilience with the capability for an effective response that safeguards the interests of its key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value-creating activities”. Until recently, adherence to this requirement has often been limited to Tender Pre Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) that simply asked the question “Do you have a BCP?” However, government departments, local authorities and other public commissioners of work are now increasingly asking to see evidence of a current BCP, in the same way that proofs of Health & Safety and employment procedures are. Moreover, the trend is to ask that BCPs comply with BS25999, the British Standard for business continuity management. By way of example, the Dept. of Health is actively encouraging all those October 2010 | Copy Shop News

who supply Primary Care Trusts, GP Surgeries and Pharmacies to accredit themselves to BS25999. Having a BCP not only opens the door to working within the public sector and larger commercial contracts, but also protects company directors against prosecution under complex legislation and potential financial ruin. Obligations within the Companies Act and Corporate Manslaughter Act, amongst others, mean that directors must demonstrate independent judgment and reasonable care in running the business and, whilst much as this may seem obvious, compliance and good practice in these areas is often overlooked due to other seemingly more pressing issues. And of course, it must not be forgotten that the primary role of a BCP is to protect a business by preparing and planning against potential denial of access to key business resources. Alarmingly, directors will often identify business continuity with their IT back-up, but it is much much more than that! Most BCPs stop there, but knowing what to do and when to do it simply isn’t enough. Seeking temporary premises and equipment, diverted facilities or professional help when disaster has already struck is too late. The ideal is to pre-engage these
resources beforehand and therefore successfully remediate loss of facility and thus, in most cases, get the white collar function operational again within a matter of hours. A properly constructed BCP will look at all areas of a business and the potential risks that could impact upon it and then construct a strategy to deal with each such scenario. So, is having a Business Continuity Plan a good idea? Yes it is. It will demonstrate the resilience of a business and give it a competitive advantage; it will open the door to larger contracts; potentially save money on insurance, make business finance a bit easier to come by and, one day when least expected, might save the business itself! Crisis Survivor develop proven strategies that will help secure the survival of your business when the unexpected strikes. Identifying your exposure to internal and external threats and putting in place the means to provide effective prevention and recovery, whilst improving your competitive advantage and systems integrity. For more information on how they can help your business email them at bcp@ crisissurvivor.co.uk quoting CSMA or telephone us on 01273 668894.

READERS’ SCRIBES
Give way, No way! Through the pitch-black night, the captain sees a light dead ahead on a collision course with his ship. He sends a signal: “Change your course 10 degree east.” The light signals back: “Change yours, 10 degrees west.” Angry, the captain sends: “I’m a navy captain! Change your course, sir!” “I’m a seaman, second class,” comes the reply. “Change your course, sir.” Now the captain is furious. “I’m a battleship! I’m not changing course!” There is one last reply. “I’m a lighthouse. Your call.”
Drinking Excuse John asks: Why are you drinking so much? Joe says: Because I donated my body to science, and I am preserving it until they are ready to use it.
Embarrassing Situations! A very shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the other end. After an hour of gathering up his courage he finally goes over to her and asks, tentatively, “Um, would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?” To which she responds by yelling, at the top of her voice, “No, I won’t sleep with you tonight!” By now, the entire bar is staring at them. Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table. After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologises. She smiles at him and says, “I’m sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I’m a graduate student in psychology and I’m studying how people respond to embarrassing situations.” To which he responds, at the top of his voice, “What do you mean £200!”
Glass half full? A drunk salesman was walking down the street with a limp. A man coming in the opposite direction notice that he only had one shoe on. The man said to the salesman, “hey buddy, what’s the matter, lose a shoe”? The salesman replied, “Nah, found one”.

Congratulations to all my friends who were born in the 1930’s 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s ! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos... They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer. Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured leadbased paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos... Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn’t open on a Sunday, somehow we didn’t starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because.…WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY, no video/ dvd films, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms…WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. Only girls had pierced ears! We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time... We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays, We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them! Mum didn’t have to go to work to help dad make ends meet because we didn’t need to keep up with the Jones’s! Not everyone made the rugby/ football/cricket/netball team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on merit. Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and throw the blackboard rubber at us if they thought we weren’t concentrating . We can string sentences together and spell and have proper conversations because of a good, solid three Rs education. Our parents would tell us to ask a stranger to help us cross the road. The idea of a parent bailing us out if

You only sing when you’re winning A man enters his local bar holding a frog and an iguana. He sets them down on the bar and says to the bartender, “I bet you £1000 that my frog here can sing any song you can think of.” “Ok,” says the bartender. “How about ‘Blue Moon’?” The man whispers something to the frog, and the frog starts singing blue moon. “That’s amazing,” says the bartender as he slaps down £1000. “I’ll bet ya another £1000 that my iguana here can do that to.” “Ok, I can believe a frog, but not an iguana. You’re on. Have him sing the Star Spangled Banner.” The man whispers something to the iguana and it sings the Star Spangled Banner. As the bartender hands over another £1000, a businessman comes up and says, “I just saw that and I was amazed. I want to buy your iguana for £100,000.” The man said ok, and he exchanged the iguana for the money and the businessman left. The bartender said “What are you nuts?! You could have made millions with that iguana!” The man said “Oh, the iguana can’t sing. The frog’s a ventriloquist.”

we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! Our parents didn’t invent stupid names for their kids like ‘Kiora’ and ‘Blade’ and ‘Ridge’ and ‘Vanilla’ and ‘Tiger’ We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL ! And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
Girl Power The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all of the background checks, interviews, and testing were done there were three finalists... Two men and a woman. For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. “We must know that you will follow your instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside of this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill Her!!!” The man said, “You can’t be serious. I could never shoot my wife.” The agent said, “Then you’re not the right man for this job.” The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the man came out with tears in his eyes.” I tried, but I can’t kill my wife.” The agent said, “You don’t have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.” Finally, it was the woman’s turn. She was given the same instructions to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow, and said, “This gun is loaded with blanks. I had to beat him to death with the chair.”
Parrot Phrase A lady was walking down the street to work and she saw a parrot on a perch in front of a pet store. The parrot said to her, “Hey lady, you are really ugly.” Well, the lady is furious! She stormed past the store to her work. On the way home she saw the same parrot and it said to her, “Hey lady, you are

READERS’ SCRIBES really ugly.” She was incredibly upset now. The next day the same parrot again said to her, “Hey lady, you are really ugly.” The lady was so annoyed that she went into the store and warned she would sue the store and kill the bird. The store manager replied profusely and promised he would make sure the parrot didn’t say it again. When the lady walked past the store that day after work the parrot called to her, “Hey lady.” She paused and said,”Yes?” The bird said, “You know.”
EVER WONDER Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why women can’t put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don’t you ever see the headline “Psychic Wins Lottery”? Why is “abbreviated” such a long word? Why is it that doctors call what they do “practice”? Why is it that to stop Windows Vista, you have to click on “Start”? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavour, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn’t there mouse-flavoured cat food? When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it? Why didn’t Noah swat those two copier salesmen? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don’t they make the whole plane out of that stuff? Why don’t sheep shrink when it rains? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
Moneywise Stumpy Grinder and his wife Martha were from Portland, Maine. Every year they went to the Portland Fair and every year Stumpy said, “Ya know, Mahtha, I’d like ta get a ride in that theah aihplane.” And every year, Martha would say “I know, Stumpy, but that aihplane ride costs ten dollahs .. and ten dollahs is ten dollahs.” So one year Stumpy says, “By Jeebers, Mahtha, I’m 71 yeahs old, and if I don’t go this time I may nevah go.” Martha replies, “Stumpy, that there aihplane ride is ten dollahs ... and ten dollahs is ten dollahs.” So the pilot overhears then and says, “Folks, I’ll make you a deal. I’ll take you both up for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say ONE WORD, then I won’t charge you. But just ONE WORD and it’s ten dollars.” They agree and up they go... the pilot does all kinds of twists and turns, rolls

and dives, but not a word is heard. He does it one more time, and there is still no word... so he lands. He turns to Stumpy as they come to a stop and says, “By golly, I did everything I could think of to get you to holler out, but you didn’t.” And Stumpy replies “Well, I was gonna say something when Mahtha fell out ... but ten dollahs is ten dollahs.”
FINE This is the word women use to end an argument when they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use “fine” to describe how a woman looks this will cause you to have one of those arguments.
FIVE MINUTES This is half an hour. It is equivalent to the five minutes that your football game is going to last before you take out the trash, so it’s an even trade.
NOTHING This means “something,” and you should be on your toes. “Nothing” is usually used to describe the feeling a woman has of wanting to turn you inside out, upside down, and backwards. “Nothing” usually signifies an argument that will last “Five Minutes” and end with “Fine”
GO AHEAD (With Raised Eyebrows) This is a dare. One that will result in a woman getting upset over “Nothing” and will end with the word “Fine”
GO AHEAD (Normal Eyebrows) This means “I give up” or “do what you want because I don’t care” You will get a “Raised Eyebrow Go Ahead” in just a few minutes, followed by “Nothing” and “Fine” and she will talk to you in about “Five Minutes” when she cools off.
LOUD SIGH This is not actually a word, but is a nonverbal statement often misunderstood by men. A “Loud Sigh” means she thinks you are an idiot at that moment, and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over “Nothing”
SOFT SIGH Again, not a word, but a non-verbal statement. “Soft Sighs” mean that she is content. Your best bet is to not move or breathe, and she will stay content. |
THAT’S OKAY This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man. “That’s Okay” means that she wants to think long and hard before
paying you back for whatever it is that you have done. “That’s Okay” is often used with the word “Fine” and in conjunction with a “Raised Eyebrow.”
GO AHEAD! At some point in the near future, you are going to be in some mighty big trouble.
W E N ol R from and
PLEASE DO This is not a statement, it is an offer. A woman is giving you the chance to come up with whatever excuse or reason you have for doing whatever it is that you have done. You have a fair chance with the truth, so be careful and you shouldn’t get a “That’s Okay”
THANKS A woman is thanking you. Do not faint. Just say you’re welcome.
THANKS A LOT This is much different from “Thanks.” A woman will say, “Thanks A Lot” when she is really ticked off at you. It signifies that you have offended her in some callous way, and will be followed by the “Loud Sigh.” Be careful not to ask what is wrong after the “Loud Sigh,” as she will only tell you “Nothing”
Monkey Business This guy needs a job and decides to apply at the zoo. As it happened, their star attraction, a gorilla, had passed away the night before and they had carefully preserved his hide. They tell this guy that they’ll pay him well if he would dress up in the gorillas skin and pretend to be the gorilla so people will keep coming to the zoo. Well, the guy has his doubts, but Hey! He needs the money, so he puts on the skin and goes out into the cage. The people all cheer to see him. He plays up to the audience and they just eat it up. This isn’t so bad, he thinks, and he starts really putting on a show, jumping around, beating his chest and roaring, swinging around. During one acrobatic attempt, though, he loses his balance and crashes through some safety netting, landing square in the middle of the lion cage! As he lies there stunned, the lion roars. He’s terrified and starts screaming, “Help, Help, Help!” The lion races over to him, places his paws on his chest and hisses, “Shut up or we’ll BOTH lose our jobs!”
Best Friends Friendship between women: A woman doesn’t come home one night. The next day she tells her husband that she had slept over at a girlfriend’s house. The husband calls his wife’s 10 best friends. None of them know anything about it. Friendship between men: A man doesn’t come home one night. The next day he tells his wife that he had slept over at a friend’s house. The wife calls her husband’s 10 best men friends. Eight of them confirm that he had slept over, and two claim that he was still there.
