EFI picks Perfect Colours PERFECT Colours’s strident year continues with a new strategic partnership with EFI, which will see it supply and support two of its popular, innovative hybrid wide-format printers to businesses throughout the UK. Effective immediately, the London-based reseller now offers the top-flight EFI H1625 LED wide-format printer and EFI VUTEk H2000 Pro printer and will present the first of these on its stand at Sign and Digital. The agreement sees Perfect Colours join the EFI channel as a dealer, its highest partnership tier, which means that it will not only sell the machines in the UK but, crucially, also support them. The company has invested continuously in countrywide assistance for customers in recent years and now sports a team of eleven engineers and a dedicated technical support hotline, along with training, online ordering and complementary systems. “When our clients invest in premium equipment through Perfect Colours we pride ourselves on giving them the confidence that they are fully supported, which is why we in turn have made such a solid investment in our service department,” explains Jason Burroughs, managing director. “EFI’s high-productivity platforms fit superbly with our portfolio and buyers know that they can count on Perfect Colours to guide and sustain them in every way. We don’t expect to sell them a machine and leave them to fend for themselves.”
“EFI understands that uptime and productivity are crucial for businesses in our sector,” adds Paul Cripps, vice president of EFI EMEA sales. “Perfect Colours has both the reputation and the demonstrable track record in service and support we demand from our dealers, so they’re a logical strategic fit as an EFI partner.” The 1.6m H1625 LED roll-fed and flat-bed engine
represents a low-cost point of entry into a versatile and high-value application space, while the 2m VUTEk H2000 Pro printer’s extensible platform enables rapid, six-colour production onto an abundance of rigid and flexible substrates with a range of imaging and production options to meet any business need. www.perfectcolours.com
FE BURMAN ENHANCES QUALITY HORIZON FE Burman, London, has chosen an Intelligent Finishing Systems-supplied Horizon StitchLiner and an Uchida Aerocutcutter, creaser and perforator, to elevate production quality and streamline productivity. “We recently invested in a second Indigo 7000 and that has increased demand on the finishing department, particularly for different job sizes,” states Michael Burman, managing director of the firm that works with a wide range of blue chip clients. “We chose the StitchLiner to help us increase the level of quality of the product we were producing in both the final look and the security of personalised work.” He continues: “We particularly liked the inline camera that supports the personalised work we complete. The new system means we can deliver the same products, faster, freeing up capacity. Another benefit is a flatter final product: “There is a regular 32 page, 10,000 run DL booklet that is machine enclosed. Not only is production smoother, it also looks better.” He adds: “The combination of these factors made the investment right for us.” The StitchLiner was chosen after a thorough review of what systems are currently available: “We looked at other options on the market and there were a number of reasons why we went for the StitchLiner. The three knife trimmer was very robust and heavy duty and the HOF feeder allows you to stitch collated products and that helps with flexibility. It is also easy to use and quick to set up.” He was impressed by the feature advances introduced on fully-automated 11,000bph Horizon StitchLiner that include a high profile icon-based colour touchscreen for set-ups in less than two minutes. Also expected to help with job turnaround is the instant job storage and recall, ideal for short runs. The company also invested in an Uchida Aerocutcutter, creaser and perforator.
Featuring a user-friendly colour display for simple and easy job setting, it features an Upper Belt Air suction system and Uchida Ultra-Crease to prevent toner cracking. It also has Cut Register Mark Detection and can accurately feed stocks to 350gsm. Comments Mr Burman: “It has made us more productive and accurate in terms of guillotining business cards.” www.ifsl.uk.com www.uchida-umg.co.uk

How printers can save on the Royal Mail price rise BIRMINGHAM-BASED direct mail fulfilment and print management services provider Baker Goodchild, has revealed that both printers and marketing service agencies could all be seriously affected by the Royal Mail price increase for its first and second-class stamps, which comes into effect from the end of March. Earlier this year Royal Mail stated that it intends to increase the price of a first-class stamp by 1p to 63p, whilst a second-class stamp will also go up by the same amount to 54p. In addition, a large letter firstclass stamp will also rise by 2p to 95p and a large second class stamp will also increase by 1p to 74p. Speaking about how printers and marketing service providers will be affected by the price increase announcement, Baker Goodchild’s Mail Specialist, Account Director Adam Stafford, stated, “In some cases, be it on a print job or piece of marketing collateral, the postal element can be the largest single cost. So a postal price increase on any overall campaign can be very significant, and this can seriously impact on the potential profit margins for any job.”
Adam continued, “This comes at a time when printers need to maintain profit margins and still deliver a quality piece of print, and can be significant. Obviously companies are always looking at ways to alleviate any extra cost, which is where we (Baker Goodchild) come in.” Baker Goodchild has access to various different discount service offerings which can offset some of the increase, so clients will pay as little of the intended increase as possible. By utilising the services that companies such as Baker Goodchild has to offer, such as a discounted service, reliability and service, as well as speed of delivery can all be improved, which again can be beneficial to companies, whilst helping to alleviate the price increase impact. The clear reasons why printers and marketeers should be looking to lessen the impact of any price increase are; to maintain competitiveness, and more importantly to help maintain profit margins. Adam concluded, “In some cases, companies such as Baker Goodchild can save clients as much as up
to 60% on postage alone, and we all still make a margin. So printers need to be savvy, shop around and in turn be more competitive. We are here to help.” Baker Goodchild currently provides print, fulfilment and postage services for a variety of national and international clients, mailing both across the UK and overseas. Being an independent specialist provider of bulk mail fulfilment and postal services, Baker Goodchild has invested in specialist bespoke mailing solutions and software, which enable them to identify the most cost effective way of sending mail, enabling them to provide attractive discounted rates and cost-effective savings at a time when cost, and secure delivery, are paramount. For information on the services Baker Goodchild provides, please visit their website www.bakergoodchild.co.uk or call 0800 612 1972.

ArtSystems general election campaign for Xativa
NOTTINGHAM-BASED ArtSystems is holding a spoof general election campaign to boost sales of its Xativa range of wide format media. Xativa has one of the largest selections of high quality media under a single brand name with over 1600 products available. This promotional campaign, which will run until Election Day on 7th May 2015, will give free prize draw entries to those resellers who sell the most Xativa products during that time. Prizes will include a HP tablet worth £95 or a Red Letter Day voucher to spend on any London attraction or activity costing up to £199.
ArtSystems will be supporting the campaign with regular Xativa offers to help build sales, plus a free next day delivery code for use on one delivery. Resellers can take part in the campaign anonymously as each one will be given the name of a British Prime Minister from the period 1815 to 2015 as their team name! ArtSystems see this as a great opportunity to promote the benefits of its Xativa products to many more prospective buyers and build sales across the range, as Paul Tarry, Division Manager Consumables at ArtSystems points out, “When it comes to wide format media, few other product ranges can match Xativa for choice, variety or quality. We want to make sure that existing customers and new prospects know all about Xativa, and we’re giving our hardworking resellers everything they need to promote the brand. This General Election campaign is a very topical way to do that - and have some fun.” www.artsystems.co.uk
Franking isn’t just for letters
ON March 30 Royal Mail increased the cost of sending a first and second class letter. A hike in the price of postage is never welcome, even if it is by just 1p. However, the new tariffs are not all bad news for mail users. In fact, there is much to cheer about, especially for those who send large numbers of parcels. Online shoppers and e-merchants in particular are likely to welcome several elements of Royal Mail’s new pricing. These include its decision to: • Maintain or lower the price of sending a second class small or medium-sized parcel weighing up to 2kg; • Retain the price promotion for second class small parcels introduced last Christmas. This removed the 1-2kg price band, charging all second class small parcels weighing up to 2kg at the same rate, representing a £1 price reduction for small parcels weighing 1-2kg;
• Retain the bigger dimensions of a small parcel, introduced in October. Combining the largest dimensions of the previous formats for Small Parcels to create a single Small Parcel format measuring 45cm x 35cm x 16cm has nearly doubled the maximum volume allowable, enabling users to send parcels containing bigger or more items at entry-level pricing; and • Remove the 1-2kg price band for a second class medium parcel, so that a medium parcel weighing up to 2kg now costs the same as one weighing 0-1kg. Overall, there will be no change in the price of second class postage for small parcels weighing up to 2kg and for medium parcels weighing up to 1kg. Medium parcels weighing 1-2kg will have a real price cut of up to £3.11 on last year’s rates. Big savings - Whether you send a parcel by first or second class post, you can make big savings
– of more than 15% in some cases – by franking. With savings of 30p per parcel for small parcels (first and second class) and up to £1.40 for a first class medium parcel weighing up to 2kg, a merchant would not have to send many packages to recoup the cost of franking machine rental and supplies, whilst also enjoying cheaper postage for letters. In fact, the savings are so great that many homebased e-Bayers who might previously never have considered a franking machine could benefit, as well as the large numbers of retailers that plan to increase online sales this year. By choosing to frank instead of stamp, Neopost customers can send parcels and packages more cheaply and benefit from on-going improvements to Royal Mail’s parcels business. These include: • A new Royal Mail Tracked Returns service, which includes a portal where online shoppers can print off a returns label and monitor the progress of their item back to the retailer, with tracking at five points in Royal Mail’s network. The service also enables retailers to see exactly which items are being returned, from which customer and for what reason. • The Nominate a Neighbour initiative, which allows customers to choose a neighbour close to their address to receive their parcels when they are not in (excluding items that require a signature); and • The Local Collect network, which allows online shoppers to organise deliveries to be sent to a local Post Office for collection in person. With nearly 1 in 6 (16%) of consumers now doing virtually all their shopping online1, the price of parcel deliveries is a major consideration for e-tailers and their customers. Franking is a great way to lower costs to the benefit of all. Neopost Limited has produced a new white paper called “Cut the cost of sending and receiving customer communications”. This white paper explains how organisations can save money on their transactional and marketing communications. To download this new white paper visit www.neopost.co.uk/costcuttingwp

Konica Minolta brings class production to Premier Print
A new top of the class print production system from digital technology giant Konica Minolta has cut click costs dramatically for Premier Print, which has trebled output and opened up new markets including winning new contracts in education. Introducing greater flexibility and more colour output as part of an investment in a bizhub PRESS C1060 and Duplo DC-645 cutter and slitter, is paying dividends for Premier Print that has been given business development support by
Konica Minolta under its acclaimed Digital1234 programme. Premier Print, of Cwmbran, South Wales, which employs five full-time staff, made the investment in the Duplo finishing system and Konica Minolta 60ppm digital colour printer confident that the ROI will be achieved relatively quickly. Rob Baldwin, joint owner of Premier Print with Kevin Rideout, said: “It’s early days because we’re not yet fully utilising all the fantastic potential of
DRYTAC ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF POLAR HIGRAB
DRYTAC Europe, a manufacturer of selfadhesive materials for the print, label and industrial markets, has announced the immediate availability of Polar HiGrab for medium-term indoor and outdoor graphics applications. Polar HiGrab is a printable 100µ (4 mil) white monomeric PVC film coated on one side with a high- tack pressure sensitive, solvent grey opaque acrylic adhesive which is protected with a Kraft release paper. Its exceptional adhesion properties enable it to adhere to a wide variety of surfaces including indoor and outdoor painted walls, machine equipment and more. The film is printable by solvent, eco-solvent, Latex and UV inkjet technologies and has an outdoor durability of four years, based on average European exposure conditions on a vertical substrate. Steve Broad, Sales Director for Drytac Europe, comments: “Drytac’s Polar HiGrab ticks lots of boxes when you’re looking for a printable film that needs be applied to some of the most troublesome surfaces such as painted walls. With its Class 0 Fire Rating, Polar HiGrab is also ideal for applications in public areas that require compliance with strict fire regulations such as airports, hotels and hospitals. “As well as the benefits of its Class 0 fire rating, the product’s longevity can be further enhanced with the fully-compatible Class 0 fire rating Drytac Interlam and Drytac Protac over-laminating films.” Drytac’s entire range of films and adhesives is exclusively distributed throughout the UK and Ireland by Antalis. the new Duplo, but I am just so pleased with how things are going. We’re already making full use of the Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C1060, which I’d recommend to anybody.” He added: “The print quality is superb. In the past you could always tell whether it was litho or digital because the toner had a noticeable sheen, but the clarity and quality now is fantastic. This, combined with the Duplo, which I know is also a great machine, is helping us to cut down on our outsourcing costs.” One of the major benefits of the Duplo DC-645 is that the high degree of automation has freed up substantial time for the five strong full-time staff, including two graphic designers who now only have to spend a maximum of three minutes programming the system and filling trays. “To be honest, we’re not maximising the potential of the Duplo,” said Mr Baldwin. “We’re saving ourselves around two hours a day, but it could be a lot more.” Another benefit of the new Duplo / Konica Minolta set-up is the prospect of setting up a web2print system and growing into new markets such as education. “We’re successful because we’re continually moving with the times,” said Mr Baldwin. “The Konica Minolta and Duplo systems have freed up more time for me to develop new avenues of business and provide an ever better service for customers. And the benefits of digital colour are helping us win new contracts in education. It’s just the beginning.” www.konicaminolta.co.uk

Adobe Introduces Document Cloud ADOBE Document Cloud is a modern way to manage critical documents at home, in the office and across devices. Adobe Document Cloud will address the waste and inefficiency associated with document processes. Whether it’s school permission slips, health insurance forms or complex enterprise document workflows, Adobe will transform how people and businesses get work done. From the inventor of the PDF document standard, Adobe’s Document Cloud builds on the success of its Creative and Marketing Clouds, which are radically transforming the creative and marketing professions. At the heart of Document Cloud is the all-new Adobe Acrobat DC, which will take e-signatures mainstream by delivering free e-signing as part of the integrated solution. Adobe Document Cloud consists of a set of integrated services that use a consistent online profile and personal document hub. People will be able to create, review, approve, sign and track documents whether on a desktop or mobile device. Acrobat DC, with a touch-enabled user interface, will be available both via subscription and one-time purchase. “People and businesses are stuck in documentbased processes that are slow, wasteful, and fragmented. While most forms of content have successfully made the move to digital (books, movies, music), documents and the process of working with them have not, and that needs to change,” said Bryan Lamkin, senior vice president of Technology and Corporate Development at Adobe. “Adobe Document Cloud will revolutionise and simplify how people get work done with critical documents.” A study by Adobe titled Paper Jam: Why Documents are Dragging Us Down, has exposed how antiquated business processes and outdated ways of working with documents are having a dramatic impact on productivity, efficiency and worker satisfaction. The findings show that 83%
of workers feel their success and ability to be productive at work are slowed down by outdated ways of working with documents, and 61% said they would change jobs if the only benefit was dramatically less document and administrative work. It’s a problem that businesses can no longer afford to ignore. What will Adobe Document Cloud include?
ALL-NEW ACROBAT DC With Acrobat DC, Adobe is taking the world’s best PDF solution to an entirely new level. With an intuitive, touch-enabled interface, Acrobat DC delivers powerful new functionality to get work done anywhere. The new Tool Center offers simplified and quick access to the tools you use most. And, Acrobat DC uses Photoshop imaging magic to convert any paper document into a digital, editable file that can be sent for signature
E-SIGNING ANYWHERE, FOR EVERYONE eSign Services (formerly Adobe EchoSign) will be included with every subscription of Acrobat DC, which is part of both Document Cloud and Adobe Creative Cloud. Now you can electronically send and sign any document from any device. New Fill & Sign makes signing anything fast and easy, including smart autofill across devices.
INTRODUCING MOBILE LINK AND NEW MOBILE APPS Access your work as you move between desktop and devices, and pick up that form or document where you left off with new Mobile Link — your files, settings and signatures stay with you. With two new mobile apps, Acrobat Mobile and Fill & Sign, people can create, edit, comment and sign documents directly on their mobile devices. Plus, use the camera on your device as a portable scanner to easily convert any paper documents to digital, editable files that can be sent for signature.
DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT & CONTROL Services such as Send & Track let you manage, track and control your documents. With intelligent tracking, you gain visibility into where critical documents are along their process, including who has opened them and when. Control features also help to protect sensitive information, both inside and outside the firewall, for business or personal use.
INTEGRATION WITH ADOBE CREATIVE CLOUD AND MARKETING CLOUD Acrobat has been central to Adobe Creative Cloud and its massive success – enabling creative mock-ups, markup and response, pre-press support, and more. Adobe Document Cloud will extend that use, allowing creatives to work with PDFs anywhere, and adding e-signing capabilities and the ability to synch with Creative Cloud. Adobe Creative Cloud customers will have access to Document Cloud through Acrobat DC, which will be included with a membership to Creative Cloud. Adobe Document Cloud e-Sign services integrates with Adobe Experience Manager Forms to provide seamless experiences to customers across Web and mobile sites. In the future, Adobe will integrate key components of Adobe Marketing Cloud to help businesses test, measure and manage documents, providing the same visibility into usage and interactions with documents that marketers already have with digital marketing assets today. Adobe Document Cloud and Acrobat DC are expected to be available shortly. By subscribing to Acrobat today for only £13.33 per month, customers will automatically receive new Acrobat DC and the Document Cloud as soon as it is available. Acrobat DC will be sold as both a subscription and a perpetual license upon availability. www.adobe.com/uk.

PitStop 13: PDF Quality Control just got better AFTER a successful beta test period, PitStop 13 is now in general release. Beta users report that the features included in this release solve their most problematic PDF quality challenges. Available as a subscription or a license model, PitStop 13 provides, as one beta tester described it, “More production, more efficiency, and easier communication.” Printers all over the world experience the challenges that come with modern print production. PDFs have become the common format for the delivery of files, but these PDF files can often include issues that mean extra, non-chargeable work and time for the printers and increased frustration for customers. With the release of PitStop 13, Enfocus gives printers the features they need to take control of the production process. As part of this product release, Enfocus has created a series of videos that provide a first-hand look at the powerful features of PitStop13 in action. These videos contain an overview of what’s included in PitStop Pro and Pitstop Server, and videos that cover the new functionality included in the following features. NO BLEEDS? NO PROBLEM – AUTOMATIC BLEED GENERATION: Enfocus developed the Add Bleed Action to address one of the biggest challenges in the industry: the lack of bleed in supplied PDF files. The new Add Bleed Action solves this widespread problem, giving users a unique solution that can create bleed as needed. This video demonstrates just how easily and accurately the Add Bleed Action solves this challenge.
PREFLIGHT MESSAGES THAT SAY WHAT THEY MEAN: Customers wanted a way to help non-technical users understand the error and warning messages that were generated in the PitStop Preflight reports. PitStop 13 delivered on this request, enabling customers to customise these important messages. These messages can also be translated into other languages – even languages that are not currently supported by PitStop.
PDF2IMAGE lets users create PNG or JPEG images from PDF files. This feature also allows Action Lists to be run on the PDF, so the PDF can be adjusted or graphics added before the conversion. Users can also configure the image output to include only certain elements of a PDF, such as just the text. PDF2Image will be available in PitStop Server CLI, PitStop2Switch as of summer 2015, and as a Switch configurator immediately.
TARGET WHAT TO CHECK AND WHAT TO CORRECT: Preflight Restrictions is the most important change to PitStop Preflight since its introduction. This new feature gives users endless options for customising the checks and fixes included in a preflight profile. Creating a much more targeted preflight check means users spend less time managing irrelevant warnings and errors. Beta Tester Amybeth Menendez, Prepress Department, Candid Worldwide, New York, USA said, “We are receiving what is called “print ready” PDFs more often from our clients, and it used to be a burden to our department. But with PitStop 13, I can customise and set restrictions in preflight and save these preflight profiles for specific clients and for the specific recurring jobs they send in.” Users can easily set these Preflight Restrictions using only minimal changes to the PitStop Preflight editor interface.
IMPROVEMENTS FOR “FLOATING LICENSE” USERS: The PitStop Pro “floating” license provides the flexibility of installing copies of PitStop Pro on any number of terminals within a local area network and allowing only a certain number of these copies to be used simultaneously. In PitStop 13, The Workgroup Manager now includes a “push” mechanism that lets users distribute the profiles and settings that are part of the floating license. This feature reduces the amount of network traffic and improves the communication between PitStop Pro and the Workgroup Manager server.
CREATE IMAGES FROM PDF FILES: PDF2IMAGE is a new feature in PitStop Server CLI that gives users more options for creating and managing images from PDF files. As the name implies,

A GALAXY OF FUTURE-PROOF SOLUTIONS ON DISPLAY Businesses looking to invest in updating their infrastructure to include the latest technologies also want to be assured that these investments will act to future-proof their businesses. “We not only address current market requirements,” Gougay adds, “but we also deliver solutions that will be a valuable asset for years to come.” At FESPA 2015, Esko will demonstrate a variety of hardware and software solutions that can be modularly combined to fit any sign, display or wideformat production workflow. New and demonstrated for the first time in Europe will be the i-cut Production Console (iPC) which drives all functionality on Esko Kongsberg tables. A good user interface is key to secure efficient, safe and high quality operations, and a great user experience has steered the development of this operator interface. The iPC brings a new dimension to operator guidance and machine control thanks to its ingenious design and range of logical, userfriendly features. Also on display will be Esko’s i-cut Suite, a collection of prepress and preproduction software solutions designed to eliminate errors, save time and reduce waste. Esko will also be featuring ArtiosCAD and Studio structural design software for 3D design of displays and other structures, including dedicated tools to streamline structural design, product development, virtual prototyping and manufacturing. One exciting highlight is Esko’s Automation Engine which manages prepress workflow automation. Dynamic workflows from design to the digital press and beyond to the finishing device are easy to set up and operate. Automation Engine serves as the heart of any size prepress production operation. www.esko.com

The Print Show grows
DTP Associates has become the latest company to sign up to the debut edition of The Print Show shortly after organisers revealed the event’s first floorplan.
S
CHEDULED TO TAKE place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from October 13th to 15th, The Print Show has been designed by a UK company for UK printers. The event will pay tribute to all aspects of print and celebrate the work done by talented printers in the UK. first being launched in November last year, The Print Show has attracted heavy interest not only from those wishing to exhibit, but also those companies that are planning to attend the event this autumn. This ongoing interest has led to a surge of companies signing up to exhibit, with major stand space at the show filling up fast. This is reflected in the first floorplan to be released by organisers, which gives details of the companies that have already signed up. Print manufacturing giant Manroland Sheetfed is amongst those to have signed up to the show and has taken one of the larger stands, while the likes of digital print technology specialist RISO, Premier Paper, D&K Europe, B&R Moll International, Signmaster Systems, and Grafityp UK will also have stands at the event—showcasing the event already has a very good cross section of the industry. Expanding exhibitor list - DTP Associates is a key player in the digital printer manufacturing and distribution market with its award winning XPress On Demand systems. Despite not being a regular exhibitor at trade shows, the company has opted to support The Print Show due to the targeted approach that the event offers. Speaking about the company’s decision to attend, Richard Bridle, operations director, says: “I think the time is right for a show that will support not just the very large international companies but also the UK-based and focussed ones like us. We’re hoping to significantly raise the profile of our products and show why we believe we are the market leader in the small to medium sized market of digital printing kit. We also want to generate plenty of leads and sales of our products. “At the moment there is no other dedicated annual print exhibition in the UK of any size, so I think it could be quite important. It could definitely be something everybody waits for and anticipates; it could be quite an interesting annual occurrence.” The floorplan also features information about the different specialist areas that will be at the show, in addition to the various stand spaces that remain open to potential exhibitors. The floorplan will be updated on a daily basis and is available to view on the show’s website. www.theprintshow.com/downloads/floorplan.pdf Focus on the UK market - Luke Stoneham, sales manager for The Print Show, has been out and about around the UK speaking to companies about the benefit a presence at the event could have on their business. He recently struck a deal for Compact Foilers to exhibit at the debut edition of the show, with the company placing a booking for 6 x 3m stand G10. “The industry, we feel, is looking for a UK-focused show for the small and medium sized businesses,” Stoneham said, adding: “They are, of course, the future for the industry, and our extensive research shows that this is the type of show they will support visit and exhibit at. “We are now starting to get manufacturers on the floor plan and many more are following. Any first-year project is challenging, however, we are pleased to announce that we are well ahead of schedule and are grateful for the support we have had from the industry so far.” more about securing exhibitors, he revealed his enjoyment for the whole process and being a part of The Print Show team. “I love being part of our forward-thinking approach to the media offerings that we have. When promoting and selling the concept of the show, the key
points are that we can say with confidence that we do have arguably one of the best teams in the industry to market the show. In terms of my own personal feeling and passion, I say to people that we want them to support the show now, rather than in year two or three when we have an established show that people then want to be part of. “With drupa moving to every three years, and having the international scale that it does, we totally believe that what we are creating is a UK print show for the UK industry - something that is missing from that market and something that is desperately needed. “Considering those factors that make the show affordable and manageable, three days is plenty. Shows that are seven or eight days long in the UK are not needed anymore and simply not justified. We are confident that we will get between 6,000 and 8,000 visitors to the NEC in October. Our database is 15,000-strong and we speak to them on a fortnightly basis. This will be an event that will educate the visitor and deliver a platform to sell for the exhibitor. Location is crucial and we have secured the venue that the industry wants to see a UK print show.” Targeted approach - Stoneham’s words are echoed by event director Chris Davies, who has also been out and about meeting potential exhibitors and visitors head of the debut show this year. He said: “What Luke says about The Print Show being a UK-focused event is something that we are really trying to get across to people. Nowhere else is there a show that has been created by a UK company and is entirely committed to the UK industry. This way of thinking is something that is being reflected in the quality of exhibitors that have already signed up for the show. While we have major names such as Manroland confirmed, we also have a host of companies offering solutions that are much more targeted to printers’ needs. www.theprintshow.co.uk

We still need trees
Martin Christie reminds us that once upon a time there was to be a fabled land called the Paperless Office. In this clinically perfect world there would be no more cluttered shelves, no more waste baskets, and we wouldn’t have to cut down trees anymore.
O
F COURSE NOW we know it was all a fairy tale, and the prospect of every piece of current information and archive being exchanged electronically is just as far away now as Never Never Land. Although paper usage has declined in the last two digital decades even the most inflated statistics suggest that we are using a third less paper than we were twenty years ago, and given the vast amount of information now exchanged between companies, governments and individuals, that is remarkable in itself. It is a good thing that this information overload is carried electronically or there would not be enough trees in all the forests to cut down. Despite the desktop, last year the US produced about 21 million tons of paper — equivalent to between 55 to 110 million trees. With top experts warning, as we have recently recorded, that actual printing is the safest way to archive and preserve records. It is clear that we will need the trees for a lot longer yet, and for more than restoring climate balance. According to the wonderfully named sustainability charity the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the average office worker uses up to 45 sheets of paper per day, of which over half is considered waste while an office efficiency analyst estimates that only a paltry one per cent of offices are truly paperless. Certainly the amount of paper deliveries to any print shop seems to have increased rather than decreased, and only the pressure of competitive pricing versus transport and storage costs seems to have been responsible for recent losses in the trade. In perhaps a similar manner all the delivery companies that have, as a result of taking so much trade from the once universal postal service through internet orders, ended up cutting each other’s throats as the spiraling costs of actually delivering the service are rapidly overtaking the convenience of ordering by button. Purchases have been made easy on line with billing and internet banking, and people are no longer afraid of committing their financial transactions to cyber space — perhaps too willingly. But sorting those millions of orders, packaging, directing and delivering still requires a lot of human resources including, at the very end of the line, paperwork. It is intuitive that if anything is really important, you need to print it to understand it clearly. Read the small print you may have missed scrolling on your tablet! There are so many things that make so much reliance on computer information alone a liability that it is not the paperless office that is in future prospect, but the clueless citizen. If his satnav system malfunctions, how will he ever know where he is, or how to get home?
Apart from important information, there is the informative and educational that really has to be printed to be appreciated, hence the magazine shelves in major retailers are now three times the size they used to be twenty years ago, many of them dominated, ironically, by titles relating to computers and computer programs. Even though this illustrious organ is available on line, you still need to hold it in your hands to feel the blood sweat and tears that has produced it! One of my least favourite titles on the shelves is called something like Photoshop Made Easy. Photoshop for beginners I can handle. But ‘made easy’? That’s just insulting for those of us who have spent most of the last ten years learning new skills, and growing – often painfully – with Adobe and all of its various creations, and employing those skills in a professional manner. In earlier years I would have been more helpful in order to share knowledge and advice, but more recently, when asked by a customer how to do things in Photoshop, I am reluctant to part with any more than basic tips. It’s just that they wouldn’t have time for the correct answer. They generally want to press no more than two buttons and sort out all the problems. No, let them stick to Gimp or any of the free-to-use easy options that any four-year-old can master, and confine themselves to exchanging images on Instagram alone. If they want proper printing they need to employ an expert. Of course, Adobe has tried to make it easier by introducing more user friendly software like Elements, but fundamentally it’s a complicated program, because the task it is setting out to tackle isn’t simple. Digital image files, in all their shapes and sizes have got a lot more complicated as there are so many more file types and creative options. For someone to say, as often overheard at the shop counter, that they ‘know’ Photoshop is as much like someone saying they know what a car is without any idea of how to drive it, let alone an inkling of how the internal combustion engine works. And of course, Photoshop itself has become such a generic word, like Hoover instead of vacuum cleaner, that people who say they have used Photoshop may in fact be using an entirely different but similar product. Even if it is an Adobe version it is most likely to be an older one, some of which go back to the last century, with barely any of the resources now available on the current Creative Cloud. Any business that has kept abreast of developments, and invested in the latest software would be naturally cautious of a customer who thinks he knows it all from a brief dalliance in some sort of picture editing programme or uncertain origin. And even if you have the latest version of Photoshop, doesn’t mean you know how to use it! So on that very subject, on the very eve of copy deadline this month, Adobe introduce the 2015 version of Lightroom, a program, as regular readers will know, is very dear to my heart. It is the proper photographers program, rather than the clever clog designers! (I don’t know about being a clever clog Martin – I layout this magazine amongst others and I love Lightroom too and use it daily in my workflow to correct images that even professional photographers think looks perfect on their screens – but mine is calibrated for print and often further adjustments are still required. Deano). Interestingly, unlike the other parts of the current Creative Cloud Suite, it is also available as a standalone purchase, known as Lightroom 6, perhaps realising they were in danger of letting an important part of the market slip out of the loop. Like Photoshop’s evolution, Adobe has had to develop Lightroom, not just with new tricks but better performance in order to cope with the massive escalation in files and formats now in use. As a long term user, I’ve just downloaded the latest incarnation and will review the pros and cons next month.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW The photography show ran just a couple of days after last month’s print deadline, overlapping Sign and Digital at the NEC at the end of March. While this meant a convenient day to visit both shows, it did mean a long day with all the interesting products and services on display at both events. The Photography Show is now in its second year, Future Exhibitions having picked up the slot in the calendar vacated by the previous long running Focus on Imaging, and is going from strength-to-strength in a new, bigger hall with more room and lots more scope for both trade and public to see the wide range of exhibits on show and on sale. Certainly there was no shortage of variety, and everything from the top of the range to the perfectly amateur. In the camera department this mean from Canon’s flagship 50 megapixel DSLR to the must have accessory of the mobile enthusiast, the selfie stick! There were cameras on drones, and others pimped with more gadgets than a Marvel comic’s movie, as well as the very opposite in basic film Lomography and now trendy again Polaroid. There are film video cameras that now shoot in 4k which is near motion picture quality, certainly more than you will ever need on your iPhone — at the moment. Most importantly, for our trade, there was print. Lots and lots of print. Large format, small format, paper and printers, sublimation and mini-labs — all underlining that an actual print is still seen as of real value, both for longevity, and the simple truth that a print is the real measure of a picture’s quality. The availability of affordable printers and specialist papers to the general public is not a serious threat to the print shop. They have always been there.
vivid-online.com
What they indicate is that there is still a real aspiration to see proper printing despite the popularity of internet and phone postings. It can only reinforce demand for the service, which is why there were also still the traditional stands for framing and finishing, which may well tempt some of the enthusiasts, also showing the average customer what can be made available. The trade should still be able to compete on price, quality and service with all but the very well funded amateur, and on delivery turn round, with any internet provider. So it was all good news at the NEC; lots of sales, lots of visitors, and the confirmation that there will still be lots of pictures to be taken in the near future, many of which will need to be printed professionally. After all, what’s the point of a 50 megapixel file if you’re only going to share it on Facebook?

Paper v Plastic Life Cycle Assessment A leading UK manufacturer of paper carrier bags and flexible packaging, AB Group Packaging, has endorsed the findings of the recent IVL Life Cycle Assessment report, which compared the use of virgin fibre based packaging products against those of alternative plastic materials. The IVL report highlighted the environmental advantages of using paperbased packaging products over those of plastic and a further report is currently underway in conjunction with Tara Expeditions focusing on the impact of plastic on the marine life. This is particularly significant to AB Group, as they have recently chosen to cease production of plastic bags due to the impending 5p plastic bag charge which will be implemented in England with effect from 5th October 2015. The Life Cycle Assessment highlighted several areas that can impact environmentally in the use of either paper-based packaging or plastic, with plastic being found to have a far slower, and much longer degeneration time when put into landfill as opposed to paper. Plastic can still impact on the environment in landfill, even after 100 years. In the UK alone, the report indicated that some 65% of plastic waste is put into landfill. The degradation process of plastic being much slower than that of paper, means emissions (such as greenhouse gases) will continue to be released. Whereas paper, and in particular those products manufactured containing virgin or recycled fibre, can be further recycled and then put back into the production process for re-use. The report also showed that plastic grocery bags had a far higher impact on global warming in their material production as opposed to a paper grocery bag (0,04kg CO2 against just over 0,01kg CO2 for paper). The same was found to be true for the acidification process in the material production of a plastic grocery bag against a paper one (just below 1, 5E-04 KG SO2 for plastic as opposed to 1, 0E-04 for paper. As a UK based packaging manufacturer, AB Group has been doing their best to highlight the issue, and the advantages of using paper as opposed to plastic, as demonstrated by the findings of the IVL Life Cycle Assessment report commissioned by BillerudKorsnas and with the Government having announced the introduction of a 5p charge on all single-use plastic bags in England from October 2015. The proposed charge is only on plastic bags which is part of a Crown/EU initiative to improve the environment and protect our food chain. AB Group are currently working in partnership with high street retailers on a seamless transition to paper carrier bags. Retailers are recognising the advantages of making the switch - there is no charge to the customer for paper carrier bags, people prefer paper because it is seen as progressive and environmentally conscious and their brand continues to be seen on to the high street. A further reason for encouraging the use of paper carrier bags is that the introduction of the new charge will mean additional administration processes, additional spend and updated IT systems for the retailers and brand owners, posing additional cost and administrative implications. The Government has stated that the plastic bag charge is, ‘a targeted, proportionate approach to the problem of carrier bag distribution and littering’. It has indicated, ‘It will therefore continue to focus on plastic bags and not on paper bags’. According to the Government information, Paper bags make up less than 0.1% of carrier bags distributed in the UK by the seven major supermarket retailers.” For more information visit: www.abgrouppackaging.com

REQUEST YOUR FREE NOTEPAD… HELP PROVIDE A PRE-SCHOOL CHILD WITH EDUCATION
5000 notepad requests will deliver education for one year in the four SOS children’s villages pre-schools of Madagascar. In their formative years children establish the cognitive, emotional and social foundations upon which they build their future. Colouring pictures, crafting and reading might seem to be pleasant pastimes to adults but are in actual fact extremely important to a child’s development. Yet in Madagascar, too many children are deprived of this opportunity to develop these skills in early childhood because their parents cannot afford their school fees. In order to boost their education and provide better opportunities in later life, Cyclus is helping SOS Children’s Villages to increase availability for pre-school access in Madagascar. When the target of 5,000 notepad requests is reached, Cyclus will support education in the four SOS Children’s Villages pre-schools of Madagascar for one entire school year.

ANTALIS will join like-minded organisations committed to the environmental cause in supporting Cap COP 21, a series of events to help protect the environment. The initiative, organised in the run up to the United Nations Framework convention on Climate Change conference (COP 21), includes meetings, informative events and discussion forums which will be held in the run-up to the main conference, which will take place in Paris, in December 2015. Commenting on the Antalis Group’s commitment to partner the initiative, Oliver Guichardon, CSR Director at Sequana, parent company of Antalis says, “Climate change is a global issue, for which we must find solutions at the local level. The paper industry is often singled out, even though it has in fact made huge efforts to protect the environment. This is one of the messages that we will communicate at Cap COP 21.” As a partner of the Cap COP 21 event, Antalis will sit alongside companies similarly committed to the environmental cause, and before a wide panel of stakeholders aiming to show the way in the fight against climate change. “This is an opportunity for Antalis to present the many measures it takes to protect the environment,” adds Matthew Botfield, Environment Manager at Antalis UK. “We will be able to highlight best practices and to make sure that the voice of the paper industry is heard as it is often wrongly accused of being the main culprit of deforestation.” www.cap-cop21.com • www.antalis.co.uk

Print on walls COALA Supertack, supplied by Antalis UK, has transformed a dull, unwelcoming reception of a complex of luxury apartments into a striking, tropical statement piece guaranteed to make a lasting impact on visitors. The apartments offer five star seafront luxury, but the reception, with its plain, whitewashed wall just did nothing to convey the premium holiday experience awaiting guests. Keen for the booking office to reflect the high-end interiors of the apartments, the owners turned to bespoke creative design and print service company adverset media solutions, also based in Scarborough, for help. John Easby, Managing Director at adverset explains, “We were approached by the sales team at Escape2 with the objective of making the booking office of the apartments more attractive to customers. Being directly on the seafront gave us the inspiration and vision to create a vibrant, tropical underwater theme, revamping a breeze blocked, tiresome wall to exude the five star atmosphere of the apartments.” Adverset then faced the challenge of finding a substrate that would properly adhere to the outline of the breezeblocks and were introduced to Coala Supertack, by their local Antalis Account Manager, Melanie Burns. Coala Supertack is a 96 micron, satin white polymeric high-grade calendered ‘high-tack’ vinyl. An industrial grade wall film designed for rough and textured surfaces; it is ideal for use on concrete, stucco and brick, as well as low energy or hard-to-stick surfaces such as ABS plastics. It can be printed using solvent, latex or UV inks. “We’d previously tested out Supertack on a wall in our offices, but this was our first ‘live’ installation,” says Easby. “We did originally consider a cheaper alternative, however Supertack had a longer lifespan (five years) and during initial tests it was clear that it was a much more durable substrate and less prone to shrinkage. Antalis provided us with a trial sample, and we quickly came to the conclusion that the quality of the substrate was too good to pass up. The increased cost was easily overshadowed by the reduction in application time and ease of use.” The eye-catching, vivid imagery was printed onto the Coala Supertack using a HP Latex 360 large format printer, with no need for additional varnishing or finishing techniques, saving further costs and time. “Many substrates would struggle to cope with being applied to a breeze block wall, however, (using heat methods), Supertack effortlessly moulded into all of the curvatures, giving a fabulous end result and making it a fantastic choice for this particular type of application. It sank deeper into the brickwork channels without splitting, unlike cheaper substrates we had considered using,” concludes Easby. The end result? A stunning transformation of a dull breezeblock wall into a striking, inviting visual feature akin to hand painted wall art, that is high quality, durable and required no troubleshooting during application. “We would use Supertack again, without hesitation,” enthused Easby. www.antalis.co.uk
Print on tape – do join in OH Brother this research is fun! We have some extra case study units available to widen our research, the more end user feedback the better. You would not believe the pioneering customer requests from our own shop in Brighton, some are not printable! Warning and caution text tape can be bought from stock but when personalised to a company, a person or an event then they really stand out. The most shocking so far has been an order for five metre of expletives to draw the attention of a student resident to his requests to leave the kitchen a tad tidier. So time to clean up with messaging on vinyl and ribbon. The selling priced proved to date is returning around 75% gross profit. We have kept it simple by selling all colour combinations and widths at the same price of £1 per metre. Cost is around 25 pence and orders can have a minimum order of five metres with no maximum length. Artwork can be charged for as any design can be loaded into the easy to operate driver software. There is a certain quality from the text design using the free online design tool, simple to use, it delivers customers finished artwork, print ready into your email that even opens up your driver to send direct to print. As mentioned last month you can integrate this into your order systems and workflow to best fit your own systems. QPP is in the process of setting up a trial site for you all to design on line and send sample orders to us for processing.

WELL as research goes this has to be one of the best jobs in print. Homemade and craft products all look more professional when labelled properly. There is a growing market for short run label printing and customers will pay for a design that lifts their product out of the home made look. Home made quality is great to taste but not always matched in presentation. Call in the professionals, yes you lot… you may even get a few tasters. Here is a summer recipe for somewhere new to stick your rhubarb.

COLD CALLING REMEDY One day a salesman came in to work with both of his ears bandaged. When his boss asked him what happened, he explained: “Yesterday I was ironing a shirt when the phone rang and I accidentally answered the iron instead of the phone!” “Well,” the boss said, “that explains one ear, but what about the other?” “They called back!”
PRINT PRODUCTION PLAN A copier salesman calls into a small village copy shop just outside Brighton and compliments the printer on the quality of his printing and asked how long each job took to print. ‘Not very long,’ answered the printer. ‘But then, why don’t you stay open longer and use faster machinery to produce more?’ asked the copier salesman. The printer explained that his small batch of printing was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family. The copier salesman asked, ‘But what do you do with the rest of your time?’ ‘I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs…I have a full life.’ The copier salesman interrupted, ‘I have a new digital print press and I can help you! You should start by printing longer every day. You can then sell more print to more customers. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger digital press. With the extra money the larger equipment will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of print shops. You can then leave this little village and move to London, Manchester, or even Birmingham City! From there you can direct your huge print group enterprise.’ ‘How long would that take?’ asked the Printer. ‘Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years,’ replied the copier salesman. ‘And after that?’ ‘Afterwards? That’s when it gets really interesting,’ answered the salesman, laughing. ‘When your business gets really big, you can start selling shares and make millions!’ ‘Millions? Really? And after that?’ ‘After that you’ll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children,
catch a few fish, take a siesta, and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends.
NASA AND THE NAVAJO When NASA was preparing for the Apollo Project, it took the astronauts to a Navajo reservation in Arizona for training. One day, a Navajo elder and his son came across the space crew, who were walking among the rocks. The elder, who spoke only Navajo, asked a question. His son translated for the NASA people: “What are these guys in the big suits doing?” One of the astronauts said they were practising for a trip to the moon. When his son relayed this comment, the Navajo elder got all excited and asked if it would be possible to give the astronauts a message to deliver to the moon. Recognising a promotional opportunity when he saw one, a NASA official accompanying the astronauts said, “Why certainly!” and told an underling to get a tape recorder. The Navajo elder’s comments into the microphone were brief. The NASA official asked the son if he would translate what his father had said. The son listened to the recording and laughed uproariously. But he refused to translate. So the NASA people took the tape to a nearby Navajo village and played it for other members of the tribe. They too laughed long and loudly but also refused to translate the elder’s message to the moon. Finally, an official government translator was summoned. After he finally stopped laughing, the translator relayed the message: “Watch out for these guys! They’ve come to steal your land.”
WHO SENT THIS IN? A squirrel is living in a pine tree, when one day it starts to shake and rock. So he looks outside and he sees a large elephant trying to climb up the tree. “What the hell!” the squirrel exclaims. “What the hell do you think you’re doing climbing up this tree?” The elephant responds. “I’m climbing up here to eat pears.” The squirrel is befuddled. “You moron! This is a pine tree! There are no pears!” The elephant’s stares at him for a moment before replying, “I know. I brought my own.”

OVER 30? 1. You leave gigs before the encore to ‘beat the rush’. 2. You own a lawnmower. 3. You stop dreaming of becoming a professional footballer and start dreaming of having a son who might instead. 4. Before throwing the local paper away, you look through the property section. 5. All of a sudden, Tony Blair is not 46, he’s ONLY 46. 6. Before going out anywhere, you ask what the parking is like. 7. Flicking through ‘Heat’ magazine makes you too tired to go out. 8. Rather than throw a knackered pair of trainers out, you keep them because they’ll be all right for the garden. 9. You buy your first ever T-shirt without anything written on it. 10. Instead of laughing at the innovations catalogue that falls out of the newspaper, you suddenly see both the benefit and money saving properties of a plastic winter cover for your garden bench and an electronic mole repellent for the lawn. Not to mention the plastic man for the car to deter would-be thieves. 11. You start to worry about your parents’ health. 12. Sure, you have more disposable income, but everything you want to buy costs between 200 and 500 quid. 13. You don’t get funny looks when you buy a Disney video or Wallace and Gromit bubble bath, as the sales assistant assumes they are for your grandchildren. 14. You opt for Pizza Express over Pizza Hut because they don’t have any pictures on the menus and anyway, they do a really nice half bottle of house white. 15. You become powerless to resist the lure of self-assembly furniture. 16. You always have enough milk in. 17. To compensate for the fact that you have little desire to go clubbing, you instead frequent really loud tapas restaurants and franchise pubs with wacky names in the mistaken belief that you have not turned into your parents. 18. While flicking through the TV channels, you happen upon C4’s Time Team with Tony Robinson. You get drawn in. 19. The benefits of a pension scheme become clear. 20. You go out of your way to pick up a colour chart from B&Q. 21. You wish you had a shed. 22. You have a shed. 23. Radio 2 play more songs you know than Radio 1 – and Jimmy

Young has some really interesting guests on, you know. 24. Instead of tutting at old people who take ages to get off the bus, you tut at schoolchildren whose diction is poor. 25. When sitting outside a pub you become envious of their hanging baskets. 26. You make an effort to be in and out of the curry house by 11pm. 27. You come face to face with your own mortality for the first time, and the indestructibility of the twenties gives way to a realisation that you are but passing through this life and if you don’t settle down soon and have kids you’ll have no-one to look after you when you’re old and think of how many brain cells you’re destroying every time a cheeky one beer turns into 10, and look at that, a full set of stainless steel saucepans for £99, they cost as much as £35 each if you buy them separately, and you get a milk pan thrown in, and...
EQUALITY RULES A woman is cooking eggs in the kitchen when her husband comes running in. Immediately, he sees the eggs and gasps in horror. “Be careful! CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh, my GOSH!” The wife, startled at her husband’s violent reaction, dashes to the fridge to get some butter. “You’re cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW!” The wife, concerned by the status of her husband’s mental state, forgets about the butter and goes running to the eggs. “WE NEED BUTTER! Are you CRAZY? Where are we going to get the butter? They’re going to stick! HURRY!” The wife runs to the fridge… “CAREFUL about the eggs! CAREFUL. You NEVER listen to me when you’re cooking! Never! Turn them quickly! Oh not that quickly, don’t you know how to cook? Are you insane? Turn the EGGS!”
I had a car crash the other day.
At this point, the wife starts crying, since she has no idea what to do. She gasps, “What is WRONG with you? I know how to cook eggs.” The husband simply smiles and replies, “I just wanted to show you what it feels like while I’m driving with you in the car,” and leaves.
PRONTAPRINT READER REAL STORY A printer, a salesman and a designer were in a pub, talking about their sons. ‘My son was born on St George’s Day,’ commented the printer. ‘So we obviously decided to call him George.’ ‘That’s a real coincidence,’ remarked the designer. ‘My son was born on St Andrew’s Day, so obviously we decided to call him Andrew.’ ‘That’s incredible, what a coincidence,’ said the salesman. ‘Exactly the same thing happened with my son Pancake.’
ACROSS THE POND, POLICE JOKE A Highway Patrolman started creeping up on a highway speeder when it was evident that the individual being pursued realised there was a Highway Patrolman behind him and he stepped on the gas to out run the cruiser. The trooper turned on his beacons and siren and after a brief chase, the individual realised that he could not outrun the cruiser and decided it would be best if he just pulled over to the side and just give up. The Trooper pulled up behind the speeder and then walked up to the driver’s side window. He said, “Sir, why were you trying to out-run me? You knew it would end this way.” The speeder said, “Officer, please understand, I meant you no disrespect, but my wife ran off with a Highway Patrolman last month and I thought you were bringing her back.”
MISSING HUSBAND A wife went to the police station with her next-door neighbour to report that her husband was missing. The policeman asked for a

description. She said, “He’s 35 years old, 6 foot 4, has dark eyes, dark wavy hair, an athletic build, weighs 185 pounds, is soft-spoken, and is good to the children.” The next-door neighbour protested, “Your husband is 5 foot 4, chubby, bald, has a big mouth, and is mean to your children.” The wife replied, “Yes, but who wants HIM back?”
MARRIAGE LESSON An efficiency expert concluded his lecture with a note of caution. ‘Don’t try these techniques at home.’ ‘Why not?’ asked somebody from the audience. ‘I watched my wife’s routine at breakfast for years,’ the expert explained. ‘She made lots of trips between the fridge, stove, table and cabinets, often carrying a single item at a time. One day I told her, ‘You’re wasting too much time. Why don’t you try carrying several things at once?’ ‘Did it save time?’ the guy in the audience asked. ‘Actually, yes,’ replied the expert. ‘It used to take her 20 minutes to make breakfast. Now I do it in ten.’
WHAT? While getting a check up, a man tells his doctor that he thinks his wife is losing her hearing. The doctor says, “You should do a simple test. Stand about 15 feet behind your wife and say ‘honey?’ Move three feet closer and do it again. Keep moving three feet closer until she finally responds. Remember how close you were when she gives you an answer. That will help me know how bad her hearing loss is.” About a month later the same guy is at the doctor again and the doctor asks, “Well, did you do that experiment with your wife’s hearing?” The man says “yes”. “How close did you get before she answered?” “Well, by the time I got about three feet away she just turned around and said “For the FIFTH TIME... WHAT?”
To which I replied…
ONLY IN AMERICA FBI agents conducted a raid of a psychiatric hospital in San Diego that was under investigation for medical insurance fraud. After hours of reviewing thousands of medical records, the dozens of agents had worked up quite an appetite. The agent in charge of the investigation called a nearby pizza parlour with delivery service to order a quick dinner for his colleagues. The following telephone conversation took place and was recorded by the FBI because they were taping all conversations at the hospital. Agent: Hello. I’d like to order 19 large pizzas and three cases of soda. Pizza Man: And where would you like them delivered? Agent: We’re over at the psychiatric hospital. Pizza Man: The psychiatric hospital? Agent: That’s right. I’m an FBI agent. Pizza Man: You’re an FBI agent? Agent: That’s correct. Just about everybody here is. Pizza Man: And you’re at the psychiatric hospital? Agent: That’s correct. And make sure you don’t go through the front doors. We have them locked. You’ll have to go around to the back service entrance to deliver the pizzas. Pizza Man: And you say you’re all FBI agents? Agent: That’s right. How soon can you have them here? Pizza Man: Everyone at the psychiatric hospital is an FBI agent? Agent: That’s right. We’ve been here all day and we’re starving. Pizza Man: How are you going to pay for all of this? Agent: We’ve collected a pool of cash. Pizza Man: And you’re all FBI agents? Agent: Yes. Pizza Man: With guns? Agent: That’s right. Now, can you remember to bring the pizzas and sodas to the service entrance in the rear? We have the front doors locked. Pizza Man: Sorry you have the wrong number, click.
‘Which one are you then?’

We have decided to go 100% digital, so have a 1998 Heidelberg Quickmaster single colour press for sale. It is in good working order but it’s a first floor location so some dismantling is required. Therefore, we aren’t after a lot of money, but just want someone to remove the machine and clear the space efficiently. I’ve printed on it recently and it still does a great job, or you might want to strip it down for spares. Various spares and consumable are available with it. If this is of any interest, please e-mail Mr Lindsey Maguire: print@studio-6.co.uk
