Even before social media you may have left a trail of dodgy pics that may come back to haunt you. Thanks for this reminder goes to our intrepid designer Dean who with the help of our pixel columnist Martin has delved into the archives to mark our anniversary front cover. It is too long ago, back in the time of analogue copy shops, that we decided to share best practice in print. We have made many friends in the industry and welcome newbies each publication. Better Together—Xerox and Fuji Xerox Steve Hoover, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Xerox says…“Ensuring that products and services make our customers’ lives better has been a singular focus for Xerox. In fact, innovation and customers are at the heart of everything we do. For over fifty years, Xerox has been working with our Fuji Xerox partners to ensure we can improve the productivity and business processes of our customers around the world — helping them solve the challenges they face. Recently, Xerox entered into an agreement to combine with Fuji Xerox. To do this, I will continue to engage our partners, vendors and customers in understanding how we can help. Our teams will listen and we will learn. This “better together” team will continue to drive a product and services portfolio that offers the solutions our customers around the world deserve. We will work to dissolve our partner barriers, inspiring and enabling the brainpower and passion of more than 6,000 researchers and engineers to create a unified team. What is it about the combination that will help our customers? Is it because Xerox and Fuji Xerox perfectly complement each other with our technology? Customers will have access to a broader combined product portfolio and feel confident that they are getting the best product available for them, regardless of where in the world they are — whether it is Boise or Burma, Japan or Jakarta. Additionally, the new Fuji Xerox will have a fully unified supply chain, which will bring the products to our customers seamlessly across the globe faster than ever before. The new Fuji Xerox will combine two leaders with world-class technological capabilities and cultures of innovation. Together, we invest nearly one billion dollars in research and product development and will
lead the evolution of our industry. We will go beyond print as we know it today and drive change in important areas like inkjet, printed electronics, and printing on three-dimensional objects. In addition, our customers can expect advancements in artificial intelligence and analysis of text, image and video, device security and intelligent workplace assistants. For customers of our office products and managed print services, we will continue to change the way work gets done. We will transform the experience of how people work, giving them freedom to solve problems, be more productive and take on new challenges. We will give customers the technology, apps, and solutions that go beyond simplifying or automating processes and create new ways of collaborating so people can connect and work from anywhere. For graphic communications customers, we will give them the hardware and software to maximise the value of the printed page, and bring printing beyond paper so they can grow their businesses. We will be a leading innovator of print across documents, packaging, and industrial materials. We will help customers digitise applications, add new levels of personalisation and value, and enter new markets. We are not naïve, we know it will take work to dissolve the joint venture partner walls and integrate as a unified one-company team. We are combining two companies with powerful resources who know hard work and passion — highly skilled and talented employees, deep intellectual property and strong track records of great products and services. We have an unusual advantage in our shared commitment to meeting the needs of our customers, and innovation being at the core of our companies. So, as I hit the road and continue listening to customers, I want them to feel how I feel. Energized and excited by what the new Fuji Xerox will bring to them. Change is here and the new Fuji Xerox will help make it easy, elegant and possible.” www.xerox.co.uk
DuploFest Summer Festival Back for a second year on 28th June, the summer celebration of Creativity in Print will again see Duplo’s Addlestone based head office and warehouse transformed into a festival field, with a full-blown stage, bar, football screen and festival style food concessions. This year’s event will take place over one day and will once again see home grown musical talent taking to the stage from midday until 10pm, performed by the great and the good of our industry. One area will be dedicated to Duplo’s headline-making systems – which will include special guest speakers, who will be revealed closer to the event – along with the creative solutions of their event partners joining in the celebration. Andy Benson Duplo UK’s MD commented: “During my early days of joining
Duplo on the back end of last summer, all our customers spoke to me about was the DuploFest event. 12 months on, we plan to evolve the fun and celebrate print, listening to music from some of the industry’s best talent, as well as share in the success or pain of England’s football team at the World Cup”. “Doing another open house would have been more straightforward, but we wanted to bring people together to celebrate print. Duplo Summer Festival 2018 attendees will be encouraged to join in the fun, put on their best festival attire, and enjoy themselves!” Further information and tickets are available at www.duplofest. co.uk Numbers will be restricted due to space. Antalis urges industry to ‘Step Right Up’ for The 2018 Review Antalis is calling on the UK and Ireland’s print and design community to ‘step right up’ as it declares The Review 2018 Design & Print Awards officially open for entries. Following on from the unprecedented success of last year’s ‘Make Your Mark’ themed event, this year Antalis will host an exclusive circusinspired awards evening, which will take place on 18th September at Circus London; an opulent mirrored cocktail club famed for combining classic circus cabaret and cuisine. Category awards up for grabs this year include Best Direct Mail, Best Corporate Brochures and Best Luxury Retail Packaging, to name but a few. Now in its 27th year, The Antalis Review is designed to reward those who have created exceptional print work using Antalis media, with the awards attracting some of the most talented designers and printers in the industry each year. Every piece of work entered is judged by a panel of leading industry experts and all finalists are invited to the awards event and are published in The Antalis Review book, with winners receiving a coveted ‘The Antalis Review Award’ trophy. Emma Oliver, creative papers product
manager at Antalis comments: “The Review has become a major highlight of the industry calendar since its inception back in 1991, providing a unique platform for us to come together and celebrate those truly exceptionally talented printers and designers who continue to go the extra mile with their creative concepts. “This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a decadent circus themed ceremony planned at one of London’s hottest spots. The awards are now officially open for entries so now is the time to ‘step right up’ and show us what you’ve got!” Entrants are invited to submit design pieces that have been printed on Antalis’ vast choice of paper stock from now until 29th June 2018, which is the official closing date for entries.
The confirmed categories for the Antalis Review Awards 2018 are: Reports – Annual/ Interim; Corporate Brochures; Direct Mail / Stationary / Greetings Cards; Magazines; Catalogues / Books; andRetail – Luxury Packaging and POS Last year’s winners included The Office of Optimism in the Overall Best in Design category for ‘The White Review No 19’, printed by the Push Print on Olin Regular Natural White. DDL Invest in Matrix Laminator and Deep Pile Feeder Cheshire based print, design and mailing specialist, DDL Group, recently invested in new print finishing equipment from Vivid Laminating Technologies. The purchase included a Matrix MX-370P Lamination, Foiling and Spot UV Effects system along with the dedicated Omni-Flow Deep Pile Feeder. The system was installed, and staff trained by Vivid. Prior to the purchase, DDL were regularly outsourcing lamination which tied-up resources in terms of transporting printed materials to and from the supplier, typically taking a day or two to turn around. Any delays at the supplier caused a knock-on effect on their own lead time that was beyond their control and which could negatively impact on their customer’s experience of DDL. A decision was made to bring lamination services in-house to remove the reliance on a third-party and the search for a suitable system began. “When we saw the Matrix we were impressed by how easy it was to use and how quickly it got up to temperature and stayed there. The deep pile auto feeder was great, we could see how this could really speed-up production time and, again, it was very simple to operate via the built-in touch-screen control” Said
Greg Girard, Director and Technical Services Manager at DDL, he continued, “Having been recommended this system we knew Vivid would be a reliable partner and, now that the system is up and running, overall we believe the Matrix system will prove to be a sound investment allowing us to better serve our customers” Lewis Evans, Product Manager at Vivid
said “We thank Greg and the team at DDL for selecting Vivid as their lamination partner – we are sure that the Matrix will serve them well for many years to come. We believe, with the everexpanding range of films, foils and spot UV effects Vivid now offer, that the Matrix opens up creative possibilities that really help companies like DDL to grow their businesses” Matrix Pneumatic and Matrix Duplex systems offer fast and reliable laminating but are also able to create stunning foiling and Spot UV effects without the need for a die; making them ideal for short-medium run digital print. The Omni-Flow deep pile feeder with its 180mm stack depth allows easy swap-over of paper stocks and autonomous machine operation freeing up a print operative to work on other jobs simultaneously. The Omni-Flow can be retro-fitted to any Matrix Pneumatic or Duplex system as a cost-effective upgrade from manual to auto feed. Vivid recently released a new video about the Matrix system which can be viewed at https:// youtu.be/6gc0lYp81cI You can also find out more information about Vivid and their products and services by visiting www.vivid-online.com

Team Soyang Europe’s G-Floor Flooring International Artist, Emily Campbell has been creating stunningly beautiful, bespoke vinyl flooring for over 20 years. Her unusual and individual designs, promoted under the name of Blue Butterfly Flooring, makes use of images taken from above, emulating the sensation of standing in the actual landscape. Through the use of photography, she creates a world that contains both reality and the imaginary. It’s through this ‘experiential décor’ that one really gets the sense of standing in an actual landscape. “The floor in a room can dramatically shift the dynamic of a space by either creating drama, or a sense of tranquillity,” describes Campbell. “We’re more used to floors being solid surfaces, such as wood, carpet or ceramic, but my designs are all about creating illusions, telling stories and transforming spaces.” For several years, Campbell has worked alongside Vinyline Graphics, an award-winning and highly experienced sign and graphics printing company that has transformed her designs into printed flooring. “Initially, Vinyline printed my designs onto a dance floor material that required over-lamination,” continues Campbell. “Then, about three years ago, the Vinyline team introduced me to G-Floor from Soyang Europe and I immediately fell in love with the product.”
G-Floor is a special vinyl floor graphic material, manufactured in the USA, being far more versatile and durable than traditional vinyl flooring. It’s anti-slip, easy to clean, tearresistant and is extremely heavy duty for use in industrial environments or areas of high footfall. Graphics are reverse-printed to the underside of G-Floor and backed up with white ink, so when the flooring is laid the image can be seen

What this has meant for Blue Butterfly Flooring is that Emily is able to offer her uniquely creative services to commercial environments, such as education and retail settings, where a product needs to withstand a lot of wear and also cover health and safety requirements, which is what they get from G-Floor.” www.soyang.co.uk www.bluebutterflyflooring.com www.vinyline.co.uk

HP unveils rigid latex printing technology HP introduces the HP Latex R Series, the first, true hybrid latex technology that merges HP’s renowned flexible printing capabilities into rigid printing. The HP Latex R Series brings the most vibrant colours into the rigid printing world, and pioneers white ink capabilities with the introduction of HP Latex White Ink. The HP Latex R series brings unparalleled speed and quality to a wide range of rigid materials, such as foamboards, foam PVC, cardboard, fluted polypropylene, solid plastics, aluminium, wood and glass among others. Unlike UV printing technology, which creates a thick layer of ink that completely covers the material and requires time to dry, HP’s water-based Latex Inks preserve the look and feel of the media, and deliver odourless prints that are both safe for the environment and the printer operator. “With the new HP Latex Rigid Technology, our customers can expand their offering into new, high-value applications while also opening fresh creative ideas and concepts for sign and display that provide their users greater value,” said Joan Perez Pericot, General Manager, HP Large Format Graphics Business, HP Inc. Tackling one of the industry’s most pervasive limitations in printing, HP’s White Latex Ink has an innovative system that recirculates the white ink to avoid settling. For the first time, HP’s innovative White Latex Ink delivers glossy, highquality “true white” that doesn’t yellow over time like traditional UV-based white ink does.
“White ink has been a consistent problem for the industry. Traditionally it uses bigger and heavier pigment particles that frequently clog printheads, or the opaque mixture becomes separated and settles to the bottom of the ink reservoir. Until now, physically shaking the reservoirs often has been the necessary solution,” said Thom Brown, Chief Inkologist

Taopix — Introducing 2018 R1 Taopix has announced the first in a series of significant upgrades in 2018 for their leading photobook and photo gift software platform. “Making our customers as successful as possible is at the heart of everything we do here at Taopix.” says James Gray, Founder and CEO of the company. “In close consultation with our customers we’re starting this year’s release calendar with a whole host of improvements to make the user experience simpler, significantly faster and much more seamless to the overall customer journey.’ continues James. The first of three new releases this year sees the introduction of the Easy Editor for all products across all devices. Easy Editor greatly simplifies the book and gift creation experience for the end user. Easy Editor also makes the user experience significantly faster. Combining simplicity of use, automation and performance upgrades to the overall platform, Taopix is now arguably the fastest software on which to deploy a photobook or photo gift business. “Ease of use and speed are two of the most important ingredients in maximising customer conversion.” Says Steffen Haaga, Commercial Director at Taopix. “In launching Easy Editor, we’ve also taken the opportunity to completely refresh the look and feel of the online customer journey. The entire online experience looks amazing. It seamlessly integrates with our customers eCommerce sites, it is very easy for their customers to use and it is extremely fast. We genuinely believe this element of the new release will significantly improve conversion rates and minimise project abandonment.’ concludes Steffen.
Taopix is renowned for its power and flexibility. Customers can choose which default user experience to deploy, either the new Easy Editor or the more advanced editor they know and love. Unique to Taopix however, is the ability for the end customer to toggle between the two experiences for simplicity when required but complexity where necessary. This latest release from Taopix also includes industry standard file formats for 3D previews of gift products. Seamlessly integrating with the designer’s workflow Taopix now makes the almost limitless array of 3D gifts look amazing. The latest release supports more payment gateways and more calendars than ever before, allowing customers to reach further in expanding the boundaries of their own business.
“2018’s first release is the start of many things to come this year. We are relentlessly focused on helping our customers build the most successful businesses they can. Much of what we’re delivering now in this first release is based on significant platform upgrades that will allow us to constantly deliver a better product through the course of 2018. With another release in the summer and another before the end of the year, we will add more innovation to the product during 2018 than at any time before.” says James Gray, Founder and CEO of Taopix. “The photo, gift and personalisation industry is extremely competitive. It is our primary goal to equip our customers with the best available tools to build hugely successful businesses.’ concludes James. www.taopix.com
Keencut Launch Demonstration Centre Programme Keencut and its specialist distributor ArtSystems have announced the launch of their Authorised Demonstration Centre programme. The programme is designed to provide resellers with Keencut demonstration units at a discounted price; they will also receive specialist sales training as part of an exclusive package. Paul Tarry, Division Manager Consumables for ArtSystems, explained the purpose behind the initiative: “We saw the need to create a resellers’ channel for Keencut, a channel that not only rewards investment but also reinforces our resellers’ confidence towards selling and promoting Keencut print finishing solutions.” Paul continued: “The programme is not open to everyone; we designed it to meet the needs of those who will reap the greatest rewards. To qualify resellers must already have an existing demonstration facility and make a firm commitment to send their sales teams for training. In return they will not only receive that special discounted pricing on the demonstration units and top-notch specialist training, but also marketing collateral packs personalised specifically for their needs.
“This Authorised Demonstration Centre programme is another fine example of how the ArtSystems’ team works closely with our manufacturers to better support our hard-working resellers, with the aim of helping them towards even greater profitability.” www.artsystems.co.uk • www.keencut.com

PIXEL PROPHET
ADDING THAT MAGIC TOUCH Tough times on the high street with more chain stores closing, and a familiar cause of failing to keep up with customer demand, whether on price, service or delivery, at least according to so-called financial experts. Martin Christie wonders if listening to these words of wisdom whether these city slickers have ever held down a proper job — one that actually involves creating profit rather than just speculating on it.
[I]
can’t comment on ToysRus or Mothercare as I have never had their shopping experience but I always found Maplins very well run and helpful, and not much more expensive than sourcing similar items on the internet and having to judge whether or not it was safe to part with your credit card details to someone in Hong Kong. If they didn’t have it in stock, they would endeavour to get it the next day, and staff were generally well informed about all of the products, including offering better deals on items. What more can you expect from a company that has to pay rent, rates and taxes as well as at least a living wage, against those that don’t. And just when did it suddenly become so essential to have a new washing machine delivered before 12-noon the same day. A sudden, unexpected mountain of dirty nappies? I don’t think so. Apart from the rant, there’s not much we can do to save the city centres unfortunately, and particularly as they also tended to generate our previous print customers, whether directly from the shops or the people who came to shop at them. The one thing we can be grateful for is that most of what we sell over the counter has to be created from scratch, and not just valuable stock sitting on shelves awaiting the whims of the buying public and their fickle preferences. Sure we have the paper and the inks and toner, but the extra cost only comes in when we put the two together. We can’t do much about the former as running a tight just-in-time stocking policy can end up missing jobs, deadlines or incurring extra transport costs. What we can do is minimise time and material wasted in the actual print process and maximise potential profit by efficiency and added value sales. Encouraging a customer to spend a little more money may seem an obvious policy, but upselling can be regarded as a nuisance when you’re on the receiving end of an automatic sales pitch. However, you don’t need to be Arkwright from Open All Hours trying to sell the most expensive brand of toilet roll. If the customer is at the counter, on the phone or on email then you’re already done the most important, and probably most costly part of marketing and promotion in getting them there. Better not to waste it, and rather than trying to sell something they don’t want, offer something they will appreciate. It’s common experience in print on demand that what the customer
originally asks for isn’t always what they want. The skill is turning their expectations into something that will benefit both of you, both in immediate and future purchases. Last month I suggested that we should try and raise the profile of the printer, and perhaps it’s something that should be a motivation for all members of staff at the printing station. Much of the day to day work may be predictably dull, but there are things that can be truly exceptional and in that case we can strive to create something genuinely unique and special. Because so many people now share images electronically, they may not even be aware of the possibilities of print production and presentation in real terms, and even if they’ve thought about it, may not know how to go about getting it done. It’s all very well being able to browse the internet but you only search for what you know you want, despite the best efforts of social media to suggest things you might be interested in. The fact that most people aren’t able to prepare images for print in a generally paperless world can actually be turned to your advantage as long as it’s promoted properly as your skill and expertise, rather than their ignorance. They may have a nice little app which can do interesting things on their screen, but something of size and substance is another thing. One of the most common tasks is a collage of images celebrating an occasion whether a birthday, wedding or, sadly, a funeral. In any case it’s something special that will have a real impact, whether it brings a smile or a tear, it will be appreciated and remembered. The starting point may be an assorted collection of images downloaded from a phone, or more often a mixture of various hard copy prints. Either way there will be different sizes, contrasting colours, and different

qualities and states of preservation. Usually it’s the worst ones that are the most significant they want blown up the biggest, the most dog-eared that need a little bit of magic added. With hard copy, old fashioned prints, a dedicated photo scanner is essential. I know a lot of firms use the glass on top of the copier for scanning but this is far from ideal for multiple photos, and laying up a lot of different quality images and doing an overall scan will just do a very poor average job with no individual image captured well. This will just cause more problems trying to edit the single shots later. A decent A3 scanner is the best investment for this and other jobs but even a good quality A4 — reasonably priced these days — will do a better job because you can get a preview, select individual items and make small or larger adjustments to get the best results. That gives you a bundle of single images, but does mean you may not need much further adjustment in terms of exposure and the like. Customers should be discouraged from doing their own hard copy, stuck to board like we used to do in the old days. This just becomes more of a headache to scan as it is usually way too big for the scanner. Single images, print or digital, are much easier to work with. The main selling point of a digital collage is that it’s much easier to be creative as once captured the images can be moved, sized and generally made into something more artistic than a selection of rectangular boxes. This is a task for Photoshop or Lightroom rather than a more predicable template in InDesign. There are a good number of freely available collage templates which
vivid-online.com
customers may find on line, but they do lack individuality by their very nature, and may not produce a quality output. If it’s important, always advise it’s best to leave it in the hands of someone who know what they are doing. Most of the Photoshop advice on line for creating collage is to open one file and then add others, but I have a faster, more satisfying solution in throwing all the pictures on the page all at once. That way you get a good visual of the overall scheme of things and you can pick what goes best where and at what size. Photoshop and Lightroom work quite differently to do a similar job but the first thing is to put all the files in one folder. You then import all the images in that folder into Lightroom, or in Photoshop go to File>Automate>Contact Sheet II. In the dialogue box that comes up with the latter you can select the folder, the size of the final page, and the number of columns and rows. At this stage in doesn’t matter which as long as all the images fit on the canvas. Press OK and PS will create the base collection for your collage. You can use auto spacing at this stage, but don’t include the file name, and don’t flatten the image yet, that’s the important bit. Now you have a load of images on one sheet but they are all floating as layers so you can re-arrange them in any way you like, balancing landscape and portrait for example, and making some more prominent, others less so. Plus obviously you can apply any of the adjustments available to layers without affecting the rest of the image. Good practise to keep a layered version, unflattened, in case you want to make some changes or add text etc. Lightroom doesn’t used layers and to create a finished collage you need to collect all the images and take them to the print module. This can not only output a print template, but also a Jpeg image, which can be emailed to a customer as a proof, for example. The advantage of LR is that it’s easier to do some fine tuning to balance images in Develop mode before print, whether colour correction or cropping, and while it doesn’t have the flexibility of separate layers, you can change position, size and orientation of the final template. It’s just a matter of which one you find easiest to work with, or which is more suitable for the final creation. Either way it’s a pretty neat way of creating something quite unique that someone will treasure and is a bit more substantial than a screenshot.

Epson’s wide format portfolio on show at FESPA Epson will demonstrate to Print Service Providers a comprehensive range of equipment and applications that will highlight the versatility, quality and performance of its latest generation of digital inkjet technology. For the first time at FESPA (Berlin, 15-18 May), the Monna Lisa industrial textile press will take centre stage to show users that there is a migration path for the most ambitious businesses. The Epson line up will also include the two latest textile printers, the SureColor SC-F9300 dye sublimation printer and the SureColor SC-F2100 Direct To Garment printer, as well as the established and popular SureColor SC-F6200. Expect to see both fashion and interior textiles samples at the show. The stand will highlight an haute couture womens wear collection by Richard Quinn, who recently won the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design and was presented with the award by the Monarch at London Fashion Week. All the items in this
collection were printed on SureColor SC-F Series printers. An insight into future design with the décor work coming out of Birmingham City University School of Textiles and Fashion will also be demonstrated. The Epson-BCU project challenges students to create work to a set brief. Four students will be selected to attend FESPA to view their winning work on display. Other décor, giftware, signage, proofing, photography and backlit products will also be seen and produced. There will be two models from the SureColor SC-S range, the SC-80600 and the SC-60600. Completing the portfolio will be a SureColor SC-P photographic quality printer. Richard Barrow, Senior Product Manager, Production LFP. “FESPA brings together equipment and substrate/textiles suppliers, making it a great research base for the most forward-thinking Print Service Providers. Digital inkjet remains a fast-evolving business and both suppliers and printers continue to trial and challenge the technology to do more.
“There is a thirst from PSPs for diversification, a willingness to find ways of giving customers even more products that will communicate the brand or the corporate message. Broadening the range is a way of adding value to the services they provide to customers and cementing the partnership, leaving no hole for an alternative supplier to fill. At Epson we can provide advice and information to help them grow their business.” www.epson.co.uk
Canon guides FESPA 2018 visitors to explore FESPA 2018 visitors will experience a ‘homestreet-store’ walk-through for the fictitious ‘Elemental’ beauty brand campaign At FESPA 2018 Canon will show how its end-to-end wide format production solutions empower graphics producers to pursue new growth opportunities, either by diversification into new application areas or by optimising production of their established portfolio. With its largest ever presence at a FESPA exhibition, Canon will showcase a broad spectrum of solutions for roll-to-roll and flatbed printing, cutting and workflow automation, while sharing inspiring examples of the diverse range of applications enabled by Canon technologies and media, ranging from traditional signage and graphics to printed décor and customised packaging. A prominent highlight of the stand will be the Océ Colorado 1640 roll-to-roll printer, built on Canon’s groundbreaking UVgel technology. Two separate printers will demonstrate the system’s exceptional productivity and media versatility across applications from high-value domestic and commercial décor to self-adhesives, with near-line finishing using technology from Canon partner Fotoba. Other Canon roll-to-roll solutions on show will include the Océ ColorWave 910 single pass inkjet printer with inline folder producing AEC (architectural, engineering and construction) applications as well as posters, while the Océ ColorWave 700 will show its versatility to print on coated and uncoated media for everything
from posters to banners and wallpapers. The imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and TX4000 printers will also be demonstrated producing photo and fine art prints as well as POS and posters, including a demonstration of a new waterproof Canon media for outdoor use. In the flatbed production zone of the Canon stand, visitors will discover the 1280GT and 6170XTS models from the multi-award winning Océ Arizona series. The Océ Arizona 6170XTS printer will be shown in a streamlined print-andcut workflow with the Océ ProCut G3 XL-3200 cutting table, producing short-run packaging. Highlighting Canon’s ability to integrate cutting edge solutions that truly maximise customers’ production efficiency, the Océ Arizona 6170 will be shown in a live robotised workflow deploying technology from Canon partner Rolan Robotics to optimise the placement of unprinted media on the flatbed, and the subsequent transfer of the printed items to the cutting table. The workflow will reflect
a real customer implementation at Van Vliet Printing in The Netherlands, a forward-thinking Océ Arizona user which partnered with Canon and Rolan Robotics to achieve the highest level of automation in its flatbed printing operation. In addition to the applications being produced live across the stand, visitors will experience a ‘home-street-store’ walk-through, illustrating the role of targeted customer communications, promotional graphics and décor in the extended customer journey for the conceptual ‘Elemental’ beauty brand campaign. The ‘store’ environment will display applications such as vinyl flooring, murals, packaging, display furniture and counters, while the ‘home’ space will feature laminate flooring, furniture, wallpaper and ceramic tiles. Wayne Barlow concludes: “The Elemental campaign has been expanded since FESPA 2017 to show how printed applications of all formats underpin the success of a brand launch, from the first engagement with the consumer in their home, building awareness through cleverly integrated out-of-home promotion, and culminating in an immersive, branded retail experience from décor to packaging. In combination with the technologies we’re demonstrating at FESPA 2018, it’s a very impactful way of showing customers the many potential routes to add value when responding to a client brief, while helping them to see the bigger picture of their significance in the brand value chain.” www.canon.co.uk

Andy Benson, managing director at Duplo UK, says the floorplan for The Print Show 2018 is already strong and with plenty more sign-ups expected ahead of September’s event, believe the exhibition will attract a varied audience. “We like to support the UK industry events and did so with The Print Show in 2017,” Benson said. Being back at the NEC is clearly an advantage for most given its transport links, and we have agreed to take a stand more than double the size of last year’s to ensure we can show a good representation of the categories and brands we represent in the UK. “We would hope as many suppliers sign up as possible. It becomes increasingly difficult to drag prospective customers away from the harsh commercial reality of 12/24hr deadlines in their businesses, so with a comprehensive and varied supplier base, any visitor should achieve a real return on their time investment away from their day to day environment. “From what I’ve seen, a decent array of brands have already committed, and if we can build variety we will attract a broader and more varied potential client base to see us all at the NEC. We will of course share the art of the possible with Sensory touch through our DuSense product, offering a true differentiator to any quality printer seeking to stand out from the crowd,” Benson said. “We have one or two new innovations which
we plan to showcase, but will share those nearer the time!! With a double sized stand, come and see what you might find to help you with your finishing pinch points.” Two Sides and Print Power have also signed up to exhibit at The Print Show for the fourth consecutive year, praising the annual event for its ability to “showcase innovation”. While Print Power promotes the use and effectiveness of print media in a multi-channel world, Two Sides aims to dispel the myth that paper and printed work are not sustainable. Speaking about the decision to sign up to exhibit at The Print Show again this year, Tandy Wakeford, events and membership manager at Two Sides and Print Power, comments: “Two Sides and Print Power have supported The Print Show since its inception; it is a great event showcasing innovation, the effectiveness and opportunities for print. Intec Printing Solutions has revealed plans to display a selection of new kit at this year’s edition of The Print Show, after confirming its place at the event for the fourth consecutive year. Reflecting on this long-term support, Ian Melville, managing director at Intec, comments:
“The Print Show, since its inception, has drawn customers that are undoubtedly looking to invest in new equipment. “It provides us with a platform to engage with customers and inform them of who we are and what we can offer them to improve their profitability. We have acquired some fantastic new business from our attendance at the show, as we do year on year, so there was no question for us about exhibiting again this year.” Looking ahead to this year, Melville sets out Intec’s initial plans for its stand at the event, which will feature a selection of new and upgraded products. “We will be presenting a new ’mini’ version of ColorFlare and upgrades to the flagship CF1000XL model with increased pressure for better quality foiling and finishes, on a wider range of papers, with higher speeds for greater productivity,” Melville explains. “Intec will also be introducing enhanced versions of our flatbed cutters with productivity improvements with auto feeding ColorCut Flatbeds. In addition to the new products we will continue to demonstrate our ColorSplash printers with new colour toners.” www.theprintshow.com

Premier Paper develops ancient woodland
As part of their Carbon Capture programme, Premier Paper recently embarked on a tree planting day, inviting customers to come along and help tidy, clear and plant a variety of trees and hedgerow. Working alongside the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity, the event took place at Pullabrook Woods in Bovey Valley, which is an extensive area of accessible woodlands on the East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve. The Valley hosts acres of breathtaking ancient woodland, and thanks to a successful tree planting day, now features a new mix of oak, hazel, rowan and alder trees.

Throughout the 1960s, Pullabrook Woods was abundant with conifer trees; a process now slowly being reversed by the Woodland Trust in order to re-establish flourishing native woodland. The project focused on clearing and burning the conifer brash which had covered the floor due to tree felling, to allow for the replanting. A mix of hedgerow including hawthorne, dogwood and blackthorne, were also added to make a welcome addition to the area. Commenting on the event, Premier’s CSR Marketing Manager Hussein Ismail said “This is the third tree planting event that we have hosted at Bovey Valley and it was great to meet up with customers and further develop the site. Everyone came together to clear the grounds, plant trees and hedgerows. It was humbling to see so many people dedicated to Carbon Capture and giving something back to the environment.” Further plans to develop and protect the woodland are underway, with the planted areas being restored to native broadleaf through regular thinning, to control light levels on the forest floor and prevent weeds developing. Premier continues to offer its customers the opportunity to capture the CO2 emissions from their paper purchases by planting and conserving native woodland, as they have done at Pullabrook Woods. Introducing the Inca Onset M Built on the same technology platform as the highly successful Onset X Series and the Spyder X, the new Onset M B1 format printer from Inca Digital has been specifically designed to offer high quality for the offset, screen and industrial printing markets. Conceived as a direct result of customer feedback, the Onset M is capable of printing short runs, ondemand and on a wide variety of substrates, including those that are too thick to be printed on offset machines. Manufactured at Inca Digital’s HQ and production facility in Cambridge, the Onset M offers productivity and quality to give commercial and screen printers the confidence to take lower volume work off their presses, opening up potential new revenue streams in the process. This eight channel B1 printer benefits from Inca’s scalable architecture, making it easily upgradable allowing the machine to grow with your business needs. A real first for on-demand printing - This full-width print array B1 machine features Fujifilm Dimatix small drop, 7pl print headsfor crisp 4pt text and smooth colours, ideal for short viewing distances. ‘Next generation’ optical print head alignment and calibration systems ensure that precision and high-quality results are maintained through the life of the machine. A two-stage UV curing process using UV-LED pinning on the carriage keeps heat-sensitive substrates cool during the printing with a UV tunnel, ensuring excellent adhesion and durability. Advanced technologies such as recirculating printheads, automated printhead cleaning and collision avoidance ensure consistent print quality and reduced downtime.
Workflow for the new Onset M is managed by Inca Digital’s proprietary IncaConnect software suite. Inca Connect offers a straightforward user interface, easy integration and customisation to existing workflow management systems. The Onset M also offers fully automated, semiautomated and manual material handling options, with sheets able to be fed and loaded onto a fixed vacuum table, printed then passed through a UV tunnel to a stacker. Service and support is offered via a range of operator and engineer training courses either at customer sites, or Inca’s own specialist training centre in Cambridge, as well as remote and field support services through Inca Vision, the company’s remote monitoring and diagnostics softwarebased customer support service. www.incadigital.com
Mimaki defines the future of 3D in full colour Mimaki has introduced the official campaign for its innovative 3DUJ553 3D printer. Commercially available this year, the Mimaki 3DUJ-553 3D printer is unique in its colour capabilities, with the ability to produce more than 10 million colours in layers as fine as 20 microns. Its watersoluble support material can be easily washed off, saving time and reducing the possibility of damaging the object when removing support material. Furthermore, the availability of clear ink adds the possibility to create translucent printed pieces. “We are very excited to be formally bringing this breakthrough product to market in Europe,” said Ronald van den Broek, General Manager Sales
May 2018
at Mimaki Europe. “Making the leap from UV-curable 2D inkjet printing devices to 3D printing was a logical step for Mimaki, and we have dedicated significant R&D resources to our 3D development efforts. The Mimaki 3DUJ-553 is our first foray into the 3D market and it uses a unique technique based on its advanced UV inkjet printing technology. Since we first unveiled the technology at drupa 2016, we have received excellent feedback from the marketplace, and we look forward to bringing a new level of innovation once again to an emerging market.”
About Mimaki’s 3D Print Technology
Of the many different approaches to 3D printing, Mimaki chose to adopt one where the printer jets and instantly UV-cures tiny droplets of liquid photopolymer. Fine layers accumulate on the build tray to create one or several precise 3D models or parts. Where overhangs or complex shapes require support, the 3D printer jets a removable support material. Mimaki’s 3DUJ-553 is differentiated from other 3D printers in a number of aspects, including its ability to print objects with more than 10 million colours, the only 3D printer in the market with this capability. Colour profiles can be used to ensure accurate and consistent colour. This means no over painting is required, saving time and labour. The Mimaki 3DUJ-553 offers white ink, as well as a clear ink that can be mixed with colours to add transparency to the printed product. Its watersoluble support material eliminates the need for manual work to cut tags or other support structures and allows even the most intricate designs to be realised. The Mimaki 3DUJ-553 features a maximum build size of 50 x 50 x 30 cm, which is larger than comparable 3D printers. Exclusively distributed in the UK and Ireland by Hybrid Services, the company will shortly be adding a Mimaki 3DUJ-553 to its centrally located showroom to enable prospective customers to audition the machine in the UK. Furthermore, Mimaki invites visitors to see the printer live at FESPA 2018 from 15th to 18th May in Berlin. Located on Stand 1.2-D20/D30, the company promises a real spectacle at the show. “Our 3D experts will be there to explain the technology in detail to visitors and how it can open new business opportunities for them,” van den Broek concludes. “But most importantly, we want them to get inspired and feel confident that they can take their businesses to the next level, with a little help from Mimaki.” To kick off the campaign, Mimaki has launched a dedicated page for the 3DUJ-553 where visitors can find more details about the product, accessible through www.mimakieurope.com/3d
drupa 2020 5th drupa Global Trends Report reflects positive mood in the printing industry. Printers and suppliers from the majority of market sectors reported growing confidence in their companies’ economic performance. The opportunity was taken this year to track patterns of performance over the years. Packaging remains the most buoyant market and there has been a steady improvement in confidence over the five years amongst commercial printers. Functional printers were following a similar positive

story but there was a puzzling increase in uncertainty this year for both printers and suppliers to this market. Publishing printers probably face the most challenging strategic changes and there is a decline in assurance this year, despite the reducing threat from E- books. Sabine Geldermann, Director drupa, Messe Duesseldorf, commented, “The report indicates that print can be optimistic about the future. After the double blow of the 2008 global recession and the consumer shift to digital communications, printers and suppliers are taking full advantage of the slow but clear global economic revival and finding new ways to exploit emerging technologies so as to place print as a central tool for consumers.” Recruited from senior managers who visited drupa in 2016, over 700 printers and almost 250 suppliers participated in the survey run by Printfuture (UK) and Wissler & Partner (CH). Richard Gray, Operations Director at Printfuture, states, “Both printers and suppliers clearly understand the strategic challenges that print faces. However there is increasing confidence in a strong future for printers in most markets and regions, as long as they analyse their target markets carefully and make suitable innovations to meet the future needs of their clients’ customers.” In regional terms again the picture is positive in general but with clear exceptions. North America has been consistently the strongest region over time, although Europe has shown steadily increasing confidence. Sadly Africa and the Middle East see clear decline in confidence over time. Globally this is the fourth year of increasing confidence reported by suppliers. What is striking this year is the surge in sales of core equipment/software/materials (+29% net balance). Indeed all supplier revenue streams showed their best ever net positive balance. Printers globally report that the squeeze on prices and margins continues and is coped with best by ever increasing utilisation and hence revenues, whilst holding costs as steady as possible. There is evidence that over time the squeeze on prices and margins is somewhat lessening globally. However the regional picture is far more patchy. For example whilst North America reported some increase in prices, Australia/ Oceania reported a clear drop in pricing. Equally packaging prices are holding up globally whilst publishing and to a lesser degree commercial prices continue to decline. The transition to digital print continues but slowly, with functional printers now largely dependent on digital print but few packaging printers reporting significant digital sales as yet. (60% of Functional printers report more that 50% of turnover is digital, whilst just 12% of packaging printers report more than 25% of turnover is digital.) It is striking to report that only 27% of all printer participants operate a web to print / storefront installation, up just 2% from 2014. Globally printers were more willing to invest: 42 percent reported an increase in capital expenditure compared to the previous year while 9 percent reported a decline — a positive net balance of 33 percent. North America performed best with a net balance increase of 51 percent while Australia/Oceania lagged farthest behind with a net increase of only 18 percent. Not surprisingly packaging printers reported the biggest positive net balance at +45%, functional at +42%, commercial at +30% and Publishing at +20%. Finishing is the most popular focus for investment for the second year running, followed by print technology and then prepress/workflow/MIS. Plans for print investment in 2018 depend on the market sector, with Flexo the most popular choice in packaging, followed by sheetfed offset. In commercial it is digital toner cut sheet colour that leads followed closely by sheetfed offset and digital inkjet wide-format. In publishing it is sheetfed offset that leads and digital toner cut sheet colour in second. While in functional, it is digital toner cut sheet colour that leads and digital inkjet wide-format in second. The full report will be available for sale from www.drupa.com

IIJ targets Pure Digital for wallpaper latest updates The next paradigm in wallpaper design and production was on display at the inaugural Pure Digital show at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam last month. Experts from IIJ had a core part of its machine on display, as well as a full range of samples on various standard wallpaper media. The stand featured a mural wall image to show the extraordinary capability of this new technology. Showgoers were updated on IIJ’s development of a full speed industrial wallpaper-production capability using digital technology developed in collaboration with partner Konica Minolta. The solution competes with conventional printing methods on productivity, print width, speed, ink performance and cost per roll. An example of a mural-wall image printed non-stop with no gaps was part of the IIJ stand backdrop. Prints coming off its system were not restrained on image length and involve a wide range of typical wallpaper media, including paper, PVC and non-woven (coated and uncoated) — all printed at high speed. John Corrall, Founder and Managing Director of IIJ, said: “Pure Digital in Amsterdam was an important opportunity to show our progress. Our system is not just for low-volume mural applications, but we believe it makes digital print accessible and economic in high-volume mass production wallpaper production. “When replacing older technology the performance and cost are always key, but after that what defines how well the new
technology is accepted is what you can do with it — what new abilities does it have and what opportunities does this give the user. We see Pure Digital as a way for us to contact wallpaper designers and other creatives and let them see what this can do for them. We hope to spark a real revolution in the décor market.” UK-based Industrial Inkjet Ltd, a leader for
bespoke systems for industrial inkjet printing, is the official sales and technical support centre for Konica Minolta inkjet printheads outside of Asia. “We see this market as at a tipping point now,” said Mr Corrall. “With the right solution digital has the potential to dramatically change what wallpaper is.” www.industrialij.com

The Colour House’s expansion plans with Roland The Colour House has clocked up two decades in sign and print, and for the last ten years has depended on a Roland VP-540 printer for a variety of work. Therefore when the Merthyr Tydfil business decided to invest in a machine that could offer its customers larger, seam-free prints, it went straight to Roland DG. “We bought the Roland VP-540 from Signmaster in 2008 and it’s not just still working after ten years, it’s still providing outstanding quality,” says Anthony Roberts, Managing Director, The Colour House. “It’s cleaned once a week and that’s it — Roland engineers have only looked at it twice in all that time.” The Colour House is a complete signage provider for many kinds of clients, but has made a name for itself as a specialist for the construction market. It counts major house builders including Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, Linden Homes and Lewis Homes among its customers, for whom it prints large-format advertising displays, safety signage and more. However, with the smaller Roland machine and another printer Anthony Roberts describes as ‘overworked’, the company decided to install another large printer. “We wanted to enlarge the width of our prints and Roland was our choice,” he says. The Colour House bought a Roland DG TrueVIS VG-
640 from Roland seller Grafityp in July, and has shown its strengths every day since. “We were blown away by the quality of the prints; the depth of colour running six colours is phenomenal,” says the MD. “We can now print 10’ x 5’ signs in one go, with no unprofessionallooking joins, which is perfect for our clients in the house-building sector.” The TrueVIS prints directly onto vinyl, banners, Contravision, frosting, wrapping, canvas and other substrates, with vibrant colours and sharp details printed quickly and
efficiently. The Colour House has used its new TrueVIS to produce three full vehicle wraps since its installation among a plethora of other work. Roland’s TrueVIS range offers true print and cut without compromise. Versatility, quality, productivity, ROI and synergy all ensure TrueVIS users have a world of print possibilities to explore. For more information, please visit www.rolanddg.co.uk/products/printers/ truevis Anthony Roberts says the new machine will be put through its paces before his business considers new markets or investments, adding any new print systems will ‘definitely be from Roland’. “I’m a proud to own a Roland, and my staff love its quality output.” he says. Delga Press installs first HP Indigo 12000 HD Delga Press, a specialist packaging print service provider (PSP), has announced it has purchased the first HP Indigo 12000 HD for packaging in the UK. The upcoming installation will take place at the beginning of April. As one of the UK’s leading printed packaging suppliers, Delga Press is looking to further differentiate itself from its rivals through use of the Indigo 12000 HD. The company’s move to a digital press will create new opportunities for its customers in terms of personalisation, variable data and special edition work. The investment will allow Delga Press to dramatically reduce waste, as the HP Indigo 12000 HD allows packaging providers to produce what they need, when they need it. In addition to operating shorter runs, the thick substrate kit will enable Delga Press to run 550 micron board through the press. A flood coating unit will also ensure that the work that is produced is efficiently protected. The stand-
out feature of the Indigo 12000, however, is its HD capabilities. Running exceptionally high quality work will allow Delga Press to enter new markets, where quality is paramount. “Short-run work has always been a challenge in the printed packaging market space, and short-run work with exceptional quality has been almost impossible. Thanks to the HP Indigo 12000 HD, we are delighted to say this is now a thing of the past, and we are pleased to be leading the way as the first UK packaging printer to install one,” says Ian Conetta, Managing Director of Delga Press, “The packaging world moves incredibly quickly and our relationship with HP keeps us at the forefront.” The HP Indigo 12000 HD offers major innovations in print quality, productivity, and colour matching capabilities, allowing PSPs to print any commercial application—from canvas wall art and high-impact posters, to folders and oversized books — on virtually any substrate. www.hp.co.uk

Small business needs super signage In a recent report by the House of Commons it was found that there were 5.5 million small businesses, making up 99% of all UK businesses.* The statistics also showed that in London there are an estimated 1,519 businesses per 10,000 adults. As the number of businesses continues to grow, the high street has never been more competitive and standing out from the crowd is more important than ever. Danny Adamson, Stocksigns Group Managing Director said, “Good signage is crucial for a small business. A creative and attractive sign can bring new customers and make you stand apart from competition. Signs are part of the marketing mix and have a huge number of uses from advertising to providing directions. “We understand the needs of small businesses and our team has created a useful guide which shows companies how to make the most of their signage.”Stocksigns Small Business Signage Guide Stand Out from the Crowd — According to analytics and marketing platform Kissmetrics**, 93% of consumers value visual appearances over texture, sound and smell before they make a purchase. Brand identity is also an important factor for a small business to consider and conveying a strong message through appropriate signage is key. Make sure you have an impactful sign that reflects your brand. Signs can be any size and shape and made from a variety of materials. You have invested in creating a logo, so make sure you show it off. Brighten Up the High Street — Why not make a difference and be seen all hours of the day? LED and moving signs are a reliable and easy to install form of signage and can be used in a wide variety of situations. The use of digital advertising allows information to be displayed in a dynamic format that captures the attention of passers-by, indoors or outdoors. New LED technology implemented signs can give amazing viewing angles of up to 160 degrees, allowing a wider scope of audience for the advertisement. Signs Help You Sell — Signs act as a silent salesperson and, if used effectively, can enhance the key messages of a business for their passing audience. Small businesses face a hard task of getting recognition in an everchanging market. While external signs draw attention to your location, interior signs help customers locate merchandise and could lead to impulse purchases. If all of your signs follow the same pattern, layout and colour scheme it will help build brand recognition and create a sense of familiarity. Consider signage for name boards, on-site entrances, hoardings and perimeter fencing.
This will minimise time and effort when setting up for a small business. Signs are Cost-Effective — Purchasing high-quality signs is a worthwhile investment. Exterior signs are visible for 24 hours a day throughout the year. They have multiple uses and change the physical look and feel of your business. Additionally, you can take lightweight signs along to events and have something which can be easily featured on social media — plus, they can be used again and again. Have the Right Signs in Place — Due to the huge variety and types of signs available, it can be difficult working out where everything should go. Signs can be mounted on buildings or in the ground. Ground-mounted signs should be near a road to attract the attention of passing motorists, especially if your business is located away from a main road. If signs are clearly visible, then it could make a huge difference to traffic online and through the door. Signs Improve Safety — In 1992 the safety signs directive was adopted by all European Union member states. In 1996 the changes were implemented through the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals Regulations) act. This required employers to provide specific safety signs whenever there is a risk that has not been avoided or controlled by other means. The introduction of Safety Signs and Signals Regulations protects workers and members of the public. Since 1992 the rate of fatal injury has
reduced by over 50%. In 1996 there were 0.9 fatal injuries per every 100,000 workers, today the figure is 0.4***. There is a correlation between the introduction of safety signage and a reduction in the number of accidents. The first step of ensuring safety to everyone is being able to alert them to danger and having compliant signage in place. Today there is a huge range of signs available for all types of hazards. Signage is a small investment, but it will encourage safer environments. Redhill, Surrey-based Stocksigns Group is one of the leading sign providers in the UK and has provided signage to British businesses for over 60 years. Consisting of three companies — Stocksigns, Messagemaker and First Call Signs — the group helps companies of all sizes understand the signage they need and how to ensure they are compliant with the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). Stocksigns Group is currently offering a 15% discount for small businesses across all signage. Quote “Small Business 2018” to receive this deal. Terms and Conditions apply. SOMETHING TO SHARE…? Who Do You Want to Play?
Steven Spielberg was busy discussing his new action adventure about famous classical composers. Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger were in the room. “Who do you want to play?” Spielberg asked Bruce Willis. “I’ve always been a big fan of Chopin,” said Bruce. “I’ll play him.” “And you, Sylvester?” asked Spielberg. “Mozart’s the one for me!” said Sly. “And what about you?” Spielberg asked Schwarzenegger. He replied, “I’ll be Bach!”
Dog Hotel - Animal Jokes
A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a southwest town he planned to visit on his holiday. He wrote, “I would very much like to bring my dog with me.” He is well groomed and very well behaved. “Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?” An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who said, “I’ve been operating this hotel for many years.” “In all that time I’ve never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls.” “I’ve never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly.” “I’ve never had a dog run out on a hotel bill.” “Yes indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And if your dog will vouch for you, you’re welcome to stay here, too.”
Sweetheart
The pretty lady at the Health Centre recommended to me that I sign up to be an organ donor... That’s when I realised she was a girl after my own heart!
Here Piggy Piggy
Two copier salesmen were chatting. “I’ve just bought a pig!” said the first. “But where will you keep it?” asked the second. “Your garden is much too small for a pig!” “I’m going to keep it under my bed,” replied the first. “But what about the smell?” “He’ll soon get used to that.”
Silent Actor
Young Actor: “Dad, guess what? I’ve just got my first part in a play. I play the part of a man who’s been married for 30 years.” Father: “Well, keep at it, son. Maybe one day you’ll get a speaking part.”
Are you responsible?
Employer: “We need someone responsible for this job.” Applicant: “Sir your search ends here! In my previous job whenever something went wrong, everybody said I was responsible.”
Mirror mirror...
A brunette, redhead and blonde went to a fitness spa for some fun and relaxation. After a stimulating, healthy lunch, all three decided to visit the ladies room. There they found a strange-looking woman sitting at the entrance. ‘Welcome to the ladies room,’ she said. ‘Be sure to check out our newest feature - a mirror which will award you one wish if you look into it and make a truthful statement. But, be warned, if you say something false you’ll be sucked into the mirror and you’ll live in a void of nothingness for all eternity!’ The three women were intrigued so they gave it a shot. The brunette looked into the mirror and said, ‘I think I’m the most beautiful of us three girls.’ Instantly, the brunette was surrounded by a pile of money. The redhead stepped up and said, ‘I think I’m the most talented of us three girls.’ Suddenly, the redhead found the keys to a brand new Lexus in her hands. Excited about the possibility of having her wish come true, the blonde looked into the mirror and said, ‘I think...’ and was promptly sucked into the mirror.
Crayons Kindergarten
Mrs. Smith, I ain’t got no crayons. Young man, you mean, I don’t have any crayons. You don’t have any crayons. We don’t have any crayons. They don’t have any crayons. Do you see what I’m getting at? I think so. What happened to all the crayons?
Proposal Gone Horribly Wrong
Jeff had gone to propose to his girlfriend and returned home crying bitterly. “What happened, son?” his father asked, eagerly awaiting her response. “Did she accept?” “No, she sure didn’t,” sobbed Jeff. “When I told her what you advised me to say, she slapped my face and told me to get out.” “Did you begin by telling her what I told you to say, what I told your mother when she accepted my proposal? ‘Sweetheart, time stands still when I look in your eyes.’ Did you tell her that?” asked his father. “Oh no Dad, did I got it all wrong,” Jeff groaned. “I said, ‘my dear, you have a face that would stop a clock!’”
Fake News
Seen on the door of a repair shop: WE CAN FIX ANYTHING! (Please knock on the door—the bell doesn’t work.)
Born Free
A rabbit one day managed to break free from the laboratory where he had been born and brought up. As he scurried away from the fencing of the compound, he felt grass under his little feet and saw the dawn breaking for the first time in his life. ‘Wow, this is great,’ he thought. It wasn’t long before he came to a hedge and, after squeezing under it he saw a wonderful sight lots of other bunny rabbits, all free and nibbling at the lush grass. ‘Hey,’ he called. ‘I’m a rabbit from the laboratory and I’ve just escaped. Are you wild rabbits? ‘Yes. Come and join us,’ they cried. Our friend hopped over to them and started eating the grass. It tasted so good. ‘What else do you wild rabbits do?’ he asked. ‘Well,’ one of them said. ‘You see that field there? It’s got carrots growing in it. We dig them up and eat them.’ This, he couldn’t resist and he spent the next hour eating the most succulent carrots. They were wonderful. Later, he asked them again, ‘What else do you do?’ ‘You see that field there? It’s got lettuce growing in it. We eat them as well.’ The lettuce tasted just as good and he returned
a while later completely full. ‘Is there anything else you guys do?’ he asked. One of the other rabbits came a bit closer to him and spoke softly. ‘There’s one other thing you must try. You see those rabbits there,’ he said, pointing to the far corner of the field. ‘They’re girls. We have fun with them. Go and try it.’ Well, our friend spent the rest of the morning enjoying playing with the girls, completely knackered, he staggered back over to the guys. ‘That was fantastic,’ he panted. ‘So are you going to live with us then?’ one of them asked. ‘I’m sorry, I had a great time but I can’t.’ The wild rabbits all stared at him, a bit surprised. ‘Why? We thought you liked it here.’ ‘I do,’ our friend replied. ‘But I must get back to the laboratory. I’m dying for a cigarette.’
Quality Assessment
A quote from an interview with the Operations Manager of a growing company. The QA assessor asks, “So how many employees are working in your company?” The manager replies, “Approximately half of them...”
Pyramid Physio
What do you call an Egyptian back specialist? A Cairo-practor!
Keeping up with farmer Jones
Three farmers chat. The first one tells, “I have grown such a big apple that when I put it on a chair, it broke down.” The second one says, “I have grown an even bigger apple! When I put it on a table, it broke.” The third one says, “I grew an extremely big apple. I put it in a carriage...” The two farmers interrupt, “Did it break?” “No, a worm got out of it and ate the horse!”
Speeding Trap
I just got a photo from a speeding camera through the post... I sent it right back, way too expensive and really bad quality.

The Company Rules OK
A boss was telling an applicant the two main rules of the company. He said, “Our 2nd main rule is cleanliness. Did you wipe your feet on the mat before coming in?” The applicant replied, “Yes, sir, I did.” Then the boss said, ”Our 1st main rule is trustworthiness. You see, there was no mat.”
Diet Dessert
I’ve decided I’ll never get down to my original weight and I’m okay with that... After all, 7 lbs. 3 oz. is just not realistic.
Fresh Meat
A man arrives at a rest home for his first day. He is greeted at the door by a woman. She says, “You look like my 7th husband.” The man replies, “How many times have you been married?” “Six.”
Nice Doggy
The President is disembarking his private plane, carrying his tiny dog. One of his Secret Service men says, “Nice dog, sir.” The President says, “Thanks, I got it for the First Lady.” The Secret Service man replies, “Nice trade, sir.”
Reservation result
I went to a restaurant. It was full. There was no place to sit and the wait was over thirty minutes. I took out my mobile phone, placed it to my ear, and said loudly, “Hey, get over here! She’s here with someone else!” Six couples got up and quickly left.
Cat “You remind me of the sea.”
Workaholic
An elderly printer decided to prepare his will and told his solicitor he had two final requests. First, he wanted to be cremated. Second, he wanted his ashes scattered all over the NEC in Birmingham. “The NEC?” the solicitor exclaimed. “Why the NEC?” “Then I’ll be sure all my industry friends will visit me twice a year.”
Mobile Phones
A copier salesman was coming back from his holiday in America. As he came through customs, he had two sacks over his shoulders. The customs officer asked him what did he have in the sacks. The salesman replied mobile phones. The customs officer didn’t believe him and asked to be shown. The salesman opened each sack and sure enough each contained quite a few phones. “What are you going to do with all these phones?” asked the officer. “Oh, they are not for me. My friend, who is a musical director, knew I was going over to America. He asked me to bring him back a ‘couple of saxaphones.’”
Chocolate Jokes
When I look at chocolate, I hear two voices in my head. The first one says: “You need to eat that chocolate.” The other voice goes: “You heard correctly, now eat the chocolate.”
The Chauffeur
A renowned philosopher was held in high regard by his chauffeur, who listened in awe at every speech
Dog “Why?...
while his boss would easily answer questions about morality and ethics. Then one day the chauffeur approached the philosopher and asked if he was willing to switch roles for the evening’s lecture. The philosopher agreed and, for a while, the chauffeur handled himself remarkably well. When it came time for questions from the guests, a woman in the back asked, “Is the epistemological view of the universe still valid in an existentialist world?” “That is an extremely simple question,” he responded. “So simple, in fact, that even my driver could answer that, which is exactly what he will do.”
Newspapers Are Dead
I asked my daughter if she’d seen my newspaper. She told me that newspapers are old school. She said that people use tablets nowadays and handed me her iPad. The fly didn’t stand a chance.
The Letter W
“The letter ‘W’ is the most dangerous alphabet in the world; because all worries start with ‘W’... Who, Why, What, When, Which, Whom, Where, War, Wine, Whisky, and Wealth.” “You’re forgetting one.” “Really? Which one?” “Wife!”
Sleep Prescription
Doctor: “I’ve found a great new drug that can help you with your sleeping problem.” Patient: “Great, how often do I have to take it?” Doctor: “Every two hours.”
...Because I’m so wild and romantic?”

Playing Mozart
Veronica was practicing the piano when suddenly there was a loud pounding on the front door. She opened it and found a breathless cop. “What’s the matter?” she asked. “Where’s the body?” demanded the officer. “What are you talking about?” “We just got a tip that some guy named Mozart was being butchered to pieces in this house.”
DNA Boast
“My ancestry goes back all the way to Alexander the Great,” said Christine. She then turned to Miriam and asked, “How far back does your family go?” “I don’t know,” replied Miriam, “all of our records were lost in the flood.”
What She’s Talking About
My girlfriend left a note on the fridge saying, “It’s not working. I can’t take it anymore. I am going to my mother’s.” I opened the fridge. The light came on, the beer was cold. I can’t figure out what she’s talking about?
Print Training
A young man, hired by a print chain, reported for his first day of work. The manager greeted him with a warm handshake and a smile, gave him a broom and said, “Your first job will be to sweep out the shop.” “But I’m a college graduate,” the young man replied indignantly. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that,” said the manager. “Here, give me the broom, I’ll show you how.”
Cat “No, because you make me sick.”
