MEET THE HEAD

Reddam House is a co-educational independent day and boarding school providing an outstanding education to 700 girls and boys aged between 3 months and 18 years old. Set in in 125 acres of parkland, housed in a magnificent mansion near Wokingham and conveniently located for Reading and London. Our unique approach to learning empowers every child to fulfil their potential and offers the best academic foundation alongside varied sporting and performing art opportunities.

I joined this wonderful school in Sept 2021, bringing with me 18 years of experience in education, 11 of those in leadership, I believe in doing things differently, seeking new opportunities, and finding alternative ways to do something. That is why I have joined Reddam House; it is unique, positive, different and vibrant.

A British Curriculum with extras Students journey through our four schools – Early Learning, Junior, Middle and Senior. All study up to 11 GCSEs with a free choice outside of the core subjects of Maths, English and Science and the option of working towards LAMDA qualifications.

We encourage all students to take on the Extended Project Qualifications (EPQ), highly regarded by universities as demonstrating students’ preparedness for undergraduate study. In 2021, we were delighted to see 62% of our A level students receive A* - A grades which led to an impressive 70% receiving offers from Russell Group Universities

Beyond the Classroom We also provide a tremendous number of enrichment activities, which encourage every child to find something that will enable them to develop personal qualities, attitudes, and skills to complement their academic success. The

school boasts some of the county’s best sporting and performing art facilities including a 350seat professional theatre and indoor swimming pool. Regular sporting fixtures take place in swimming, football, netball, cross country and further enrichment outside of the curriculum includes theatre, speech, drama and dance. We are proud to have strong links to the forces through our Combined Cadet Force and students have the exciting opportunity to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Summer Camp This year we are introducing summer camps at Reddam House. Our fun, flexible camps include day and boarding options, with a wide variety of morning and afternoon activities. Choices range from learning languages, to building robots (STEAM), sports and performing art classes. We also have weekly cultural excursions and big fun-filled days out. Inspired Education Reddam House is part of Inspired, a leading global premium schools’ group, offering excellence in education to over 50,000 students across 20 countries on 5 continents.

The Inspired belief is that education is the catalyst for personal development, and being a student at Reddam House, therefore, opens doors to a whole new world of international possibilities beyond the classroom, from Exchange Programmes and Summer Camps to global leadership projects.

Our wider Inspired connections also ensure we are always at the cutting edge of educational practice, learning from the experiences of our global peers and delivering the highest international standards.

You don’t seem to hear very much about Quaker schools but then grandiose self-promotion isn’t very Quakerly.

A little research reveals some interesting facts.

The Obama family sent their daughters to a Quaker school in the US and Sixth Form leavers at UK Quaker schools achieve some of the best academic progress in the country (the measure that UK Government uses to assess schools), with two in the top 0.5% in England. Quaker schools in the UK are open to students of all faiths and none, with the emphasis being on the Quaker values rather than religion. Academic success has to be important in any school, but as Matthew Judd, Head at Leighton Park, identifies, there is more than one way of achieving this: “A student’s academic development cannot be understood in isolation but must be considered in conjunction with their emotional and physical wellbeing, confidence, maturity and happiness.” Toby Spence, Head at Sibford School, adds: “Quaker Schools offer a unique pathway... The distinct blend of values encompassing peace, equality, tolerance, social justice, simplicity and stewardship help to frame a community where the individual is known and valued, indeed celebrated for who they are rather than which box society might like to place them in.” Quaker schools seem to imbue gentle, civilised values - where students can develop and grow in a kind and supportive environment - with inspiration to encourage them to play an active role - or ‘Live Adventurously’ as Quakers would term it, all while achieving some of the best academic progress in the country. With Quaker schools not predisposed to shouting about themselves too much, one is left with the distinct feeling that these schools are something of a hidden gem.

Why not visit Leighton Park School and see for yourself how a Quaker education could benefit your child?
