COMPETITION! Gardening guru Charlie Dimmock leads the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk at Worthing’s Connaught Theatre (December 6 – January 4) where she is joined by Heart Breakfast’s Tom and Jack to tell the traditional pantomime story of a boy who sells his family cow for beans. There will also be traditional ghost gags and plenty of sing-along songs when dotty Dame Trott invites the audience to join the yuletide frolics. Meanwhile Christmas could be cancelled if TV and West End star Claire Sweeney as the wicked Ice Queen gets her wish in the dazzling production of Santa Claus The Musical at Worthing’s Pavilion Theatre (December 11 – January 5). Packed with beloved Christmas hits the feel-good show transforms the theatre into a winter wonderland complete with Santa, Jack Frost and a cast of dancing penguins, polar bears and singing crows.
For the chance to win one of two family tickets to Jack and the Beanstalk on Monday December 9 or Santa Claus the Musical on Friday December 13, both at 7pm, simply answer this question correctly:
‘Which king, according to the carol, looked out ‘on the feast of Stephen’?’ – Frederick? – Wenceslas? – John? Send your answer, name and daytime telephone number to Village Living Christmas Competition, Pavilion Theatre, Marine Parade, Worthing. BN11 3PX or competitions@adur-worthing.gov.uk with ‘Village Living Christmas Competition’ in the subject line. Entries must be received by December 10th. www.villageliving.biz | tel: 0785 2231512

The Star Steyning Reviewed by Hetty & Bee
O
n a cold Tuesday night we popped into The Star, Steyning. As a ‘local’ I have been there quite a few times, although normally in the summer with the kids to make the most of the Garden. The Star is the only pub in Steyning to have a garden where you are happy to let the kids run wild, while you let them get on with it, and try and pretend you are still twenty something. There’s slides, a climbing frame and a little house to keep them busy, and the other customers in there are 99% of the time obeying this same unwritten rule of letting them get on with it whilst the parents enjoy a drink. Anyway, this time was different. I had no children with me, it was dark, and we were going for food rather than a summery g&t. The pub has recently been taken over and we were there to see what, if anything, had changed. Inside the pub is warm and friendly and was actually fairly busy for a Tuesday night. The menu has the pub standards like scampi and chips and also has a specials board with local fish dishes. I went for Thai fish cakes and Bee chose king prawn kebabs, both of these arrived quickly – Bee’s kebab looked really good, both and with lots of salad. For mains we’d opted for steak and chips with peppercorn sauce and the lamb shank which came in a rich gravy. The steak and chips was good and came with lovely chips and a tasty side salad. The girls on duty were very friendly and attentive and told us all about the various dishes on offer. The emphasis on the food front is simple tasty meals using good quality ingredients. As a member of a large foody family this is something that she says comes naturally to her. She has
encouraged the kitchen staff out of the kitchen and the pub now offers table service so there is no more getting up and down to order at the bar. Stella told us of her plans to encourage families out to enjoy a meal together, and their kids menu of usual dishes in child sized portions at half the usual price are sure to be a draw for the hungry hordes. The pub is certainly perfectly positioned to pop into after a walk on The Downs, or on a Sunday afternoon for a cosy roast dinner. The childrens’ garden is set to get a make-
over, she has ideas to entice people in during the day to enjoy a coffee and is hoping to introduce some regular live music slots to draw in the punters and give the local musical talent a place to try out their skills. Stella is full of enthusiasm for her new project and has high hopes that The Star will be put firmly on the map as a social place for the whole community to use and enjoy. We wish her good luck with her ‘new baby’ and think it is definitely one to watch over the next few months. Thank you for having us!

Worthing Theatres Past, Present and Future!
H
urray! – Christmas Time is nearly upon us. With any luck, the rain will stop and be replaced by bright, crisp winter days. Thoughts turn to open log fires, carols and a glass or two of mulled wine. A walk through our glorious countryside, making plans to visit friends and family. Gift lists. What else could you ask for? Oh yes – a pantomime!! And you won’t be disappointed because Worthing Theatres are offering not one but two pantos this year. There is the traditional Jack and the Beanstalk at the Connaught Theatre staring green fingered Charlie Dimmock and the boys from Heart FM, or for a more singalong adventure, join the wonderful Claire Sweeney and cast at The Pavillion Theatre for Santa Claus the Musical. So that’s Christmas sorted, but what events and shows are on in the next few weeks and beyond? And what else do Worthing Theatres have to offer? It was time to delve a little deeper, so with notebook and pen in hand, I was soon happily on my way to meet Gemma
Nethersole, the Theatre’s Press Officer. Meeting in the foyer of the Connaught Theatre, we grabbed the obliqitory cup of tea and headed into the auditorium for a natter. I’d never been in an empty auditorium before and what really struck me was the eerie silence. With no show rehersals taking place, the huge space had a quiet, mellow feeling but one full of memories and it got me thinking about the Theatre’s history. Quizzing Gemma on this, it soon became clear that she had a huge expanse of knowledge on the subject. Worthing Theatres not only encompass the Connaught and Pavillion Theatres, but also the Assembly Hall and Ritz cinema. The Connaught has the privilege of being the oldest of the four buildings. Originally built in 1913 ( 100 years ago – Happy Birthday!) as the Picturedrome Cinema, the New Connaught Theatre was converted in 1930 to a theatre and along the way lost the New. The next door neighbour to The Connaught is The Ritz Cinema. Having
by Ginette Stevens
been known as the Connaught Hall, Old Connaught Theatre, the Home Guard Garrison Theatre and Ritz Ballroom, it has had a varied past. Used as a theatre, dance hall, scenery store, its use now is as a cinema where 2D and 3D films are screened. Built in 1916 it is not far behind the Connaught in age. The Pavillion Theatre came along 10 years later in 1926. It was home to the Municipal Orchestra which evolved into the modern day Worthing Symphony Orchestra. Standing at the entrance to the Pier, it can be used for a multiple of entertainment genres today. From live stage productions, live music, dances and art and craft fairs. The baby of the group is The Assembly Hall. Built a mere 79 years ago, it was actually a gift to the town by Alderman James Gurney Denton – Mayor of Worthing on four occasions. It houses the impressive Worthing Wurlitzer organ which rises into view from below the stage, and features regularly on Radio 2, and 3. The Assembly Hall is currently home for Worthing Symphony Orchastra. Gemma was also able to fill me in on many of the well-known stars who have trodden the boards at Worthing. The list is impressive and just some of the household names include Ken Dodd, Norman Wisdom, Mickey Rooney, Joyce Grenfell, Tommy Trinder, Steven Seagal, Gary Wilmot, Julian Clary, Chris Barber, Yvette Fielding, Bradley Walsh, Patricia Routledge, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Ian Holm, Susannah York, June Whitfield and David Suchet. Now that is some list! With four such fabulous venues, attracting so many familar names, it is no wonder Worthing’s entertainment offerings continue to grow in number

The Cobblestone Christmas
Search for a Star!
L
ast year I had a great time supporting our local businesses at Cobblestone Walk in Steyning, and just about completed my Christmas shopping in one special afternoon without seeing a single High Street brand! This year I’m back to introduce you to their traders, both old and new, and to see a new scheme in action – if you see a Star in a window (and you’ve remembered your copy of Village Living) then pop in to see what special seasonal offer is available! As I walk through the enticing doorway, it’s comforting to see again one of my very favourite shops. Flicker Rose has it all for us girls... gorgeous trinkets and so many pretty things; beautiful handcrafted jewellery and gifts from near and far. And just opposite is Palace Of Pooch, a shop catering to ALL sized breeds and budgets... and for moggies too! My hound Lexi’s beautiful collar is from here, and I can’t resist popping in to pick her up more of their healthy treat options, just perfect for her sensitive tummy. But it’s time now to start my search and I duck back out into the atmospheric passageway. There’s my first Star and I see Wendy at the recently relocated Faerie Cottage. My niece is now after one of Wendy’s funky hippy bags too and a little magical faerie for her bedroom. I need to re-stock up on my Nagchampa incense as well! Next door is Present Harbour and I stop to look around Jeanette’s interesting new shop which is showing off gifts and homewares inspired by nature and the sea. Now here is the solution for finding something a little different for my mother-in-law at last... Thinking ahead to having to carry all my lovely shopping home, A Car’s Private Hire beckons and I ask Andrew to book me a car for when I’m done. Peace of mind! Tracey immediately welcomes me into The Old Toy Box – I just love those beautiful handmade traditional wooden toys... the little ones in our family get really excited, even the big ones
December 2013 • Village Living

take on a dreamy look! The Old Craft Box next door is the latest of Tracey’s ventures and here are all the bits and bobs for ‘making your own’... decoupage, card blanks, embellishments, beautiful hand-made crafting buttons... Ah, I see a Star in Indulgence Jewellery! Nick, once again, has provided a glittering display of precious gemstones set into silver and gold in his Christmas window; something for everyone without breaking the bank – that will please Roger when he sees my wish list this year! Next up... River Rose Occasions. Perfect for fascinators, scarves and all things sparkly and Tina and I spend a happy few minutes selecting all those wonderful stocking fillers the female side of my family love to compare and swap on Christmas morning! Now it’s Something Special Baby Boutique where Joyce greets me in royal style, eager to show me her latest handmade luxury and bespoke gifts for the new babies and youngest ones. Passing me on to her husband Philip in The Wool Shop, I also spot those haberdashery bits and bobs I’ve been meaning to buy for those dark January days of home stitching around a log fire I see approaching! Next door I see a shop that looks interesting – Green and Healthy. I pop my head in to find Jo and Vida who immediately invite me in to indulge my nearest and dearest with all their lovely organic skincare and gourmet Christmas foods. I don’t forget all those so necessary vitamins (there’s a huge range!) for the inevitable after-effects either... Ooh, that’s a quirky shop... Jax’ Shack! Jax is lovely and she knits like no other! She sells a range of knitted items like mittens, scarves and jumpers but what interests me is that she takes commissions and I’ve got a few ideas (beyond my capabilities!) for some gifts for my god-daughters. It’s A Stitch Up, run by Caz, is another new arrival. She does patchwork upholstery, giving new life to vintage pieces, picture framing, amazing pinboards made out of old wine corks (that’s my
daughter sorted!) and other crafty gifts. Definitely one to keep an eye on! Housed in the back corner block is House of Ivy. Carrie runs a vintage-style boutique here with beautiful silk and embroidered dresses, scarves, jewellery and greeting cards, and when you’ve made your purchases, it can all be beautifully gift wrapped! I’ll be back! Oh, here’s another Star! The Gallery is now bigger and more beautiful than ever and I pop in to see Helen, and also meet Tracey. The Gallery is all things Indian and sparkly and their range has expanded to include clothing and even more jewellery (I even spotted a diamond or two!). They are still supporting education in India, and I fall into a long chat about their work. I tear myself away and see Alan in AJ Frames next door. He’s expanded his range of nostalgic prints of trains and planes, traction engines and British transport this year. My father-in-law loves these prints, and AJ guides me with great knowledge through my choice for him this Christmas. The Ink Well in the other corner is run by Kim and Dani who have over ten year’s experience in designing the most beautiful tattoos – they do piercing too. I’m actually tempted (my husband would be surprised!), but very reluctantly restrain myself. Now it’s that little bit of ‘me time’ with Clare of Crystal Arts... I pop in to make an appointment for a healing session after Christmas. There is definitely something to help everyone here – chakra rebalancing, card readings, massage, healing, and crystal works, to give but a few examples. Oranges and Orchids, run by Sharon, offers natural handmade soaps, gifts and favours – a great idea instead of crackers this Christmas! And all made with no artificial colours or chemical fragrances, just pure essential oils. Beautiful! Right next door is Compassion Art Cards run by local artist Lorraine Gordon. Her paintings and cards are all inspired by Sussex scenes and wildlife in pastel and mixed media. I buy a small watercolour for Roger and just wish I had bigger walls in my house! Ah, there’s Lines, chock full of quality hand-crafted hardwood chopping boards and presentation platters. Perfect for the Christmas table! And Jo also sells interesting French design inspired giftware as well, so much to see! Smiffy Bears is another friendly shop (and I spot another Star!), where the bear hospital can put your beloved Teddy back together again (I’ll remember that!). Jackie also makes lovely fully jointed, mohair bears that need good homes and offers a nice range of interesting handmade pretty things as well. Fast Charlie is a small but perfectly formed triathlon shop offering equipment, advice and coaching for all abilities. So a creaky bicycle chain or a 24 week personalised training plan... whatever the quest, Fast Charlie can help you sort it out. Phew, I need to lie down after learning all about that amazing sport!
I limp in to Emas Nails and Beauty to discuss the new me. Ema offers a wide range of beauty treatments including the fabulous Shellac Nails that I need. I also remember to pick up a couple of gift vouchers for my sisters, both great fans of Ema – great value! I really deserve a break now and I walk a few steps into the amazing historic Cobblestone Tea House – Val makes the best homemade scones ever, so I order a couple with a pot of tea and sit down for a chat with Eddie and the girls – just perfect! I relax with the knowledge that I’ve broken the back of my Xmas shopping and that I’ve already sorted my transport home. More importantly I’ve just renewed my acquaintance with some fantastic local traders! Everyone should have a browse around here, it’s delightful and there is something for everyone!

and diversity. There is something here to suit everyone. I was luckily enough to be invited to choose a production to go to in November and chose a rather cheeky play called 51 Shades of Maggie. It was a comedy take off of 50 Shades of Grey. Not really knowing what to expect from a live show based on such a naughty book, I was blown away by Adele Silva (from Emmerdale). Being the only one on stage, you may have thought things could have got boring but no. She was fantastic – just remembering her lines for a play of nearly one and a half hours amazed me. And she held the audience with her use of the stage, acting ability and naughty lines! But enough about that, and back to Gemma who filled me in on what events (apart from the pantos) were coming up over the next few weeks. Productions and entertainment include the Band of HM Royal Marines (Dec 6, Assembly Hall)
which has the band from HMS Collingwood performing a selection of carols and festive music after processing into the hall. There’s also Beyond the Barricade (Dec 15, Assembly Hall) which sees a cast of West End performers create a concertstyle production featuring hits from the musicals as well as festive favourites. There’s That’ll Be the Day at Christmas (December 27, Assembly Hall) which brings cheer to those often-gloomy days between Christmas and the New Year with a mix of 50s – 70s hits, festive songs, comic sketches and their own mini-pantomime. Plans are also afoot for a New Year’s Eve event – a first for Worthing Theatres – with David Bowie artist Jean Genie headlining. February heralds the return of Toploader to the Pavillion Theatre, and in March the acts on offer so far range from Bizet’s Carmen to The Full Monty. As well as the regular cinema offerings (Saturday morning kids cinema is one of my favourite things to go to when the weather is so wet!), you’ll agree there is plenty to keep us entertained well into 2014!
To see what else may take your fancy, upcoming shows, films and live events can be found on the Worthing Theatres website: www.worthingtheatres.co.uk, or call 01903 206206.

21 • TRIED & TESTED
Tried & Tested... T
his month I tried something new, I was invited by the very lovely Amy, proprietor of the Little Beauty Salon in Shoreham to come in and have a treatment with her new machine… the Lipo Angel Ultra Sound Cavitation & Radio Frequency! Having taken over the Little Beauty salon earlier this year, Amy has continued to thrive as a local business, and is always on the lookout for new and innovative treatments to offer her customers Whilst at a trade show for therapists she came across the Lipo Angel – after giving it consideration she has brought this fabulous machine to the salon in Shoreham where she is based. The salon itself is really beautifully turned out with a bright and welcome treatment area for nails and reception and comfortable rooms tastefully painted with a purple theme for treatments. Alongside a team of three part time therapists Amy is kept busy with treatments ranging from all your basics with waxing, nails, electrolysis and lash extensions (Amy herself is known as the Lash Queen due to her keenness on fitting perfect lashes on demand!) as well as facials, wedding make up, and fake tans. When I heard about the lipo angel, I wasn’t sure, what’s that about? Lipo? Will it hurt? Will I feel embarrassed? All the usual feelings of apprehension one might feel before having a treatment you haven’t had before nor knew a lot about… My feelings of apprehension soon disappeared as Amy made me feel very comfortable and relaxed immediately. Over a glass of water, I filled out the health assessment form. Amy had sent me some information prior to the
visit so I knew not to drink tea or coffee immediately before the appointment or alcohol the night before. We had a chat about what I was hoping to achieve from the session, what we were expecting to achieve, what the treatment is all about. We took measurements in three places around my middle so we could record progress after the treatment, marking so as to be accurate. We did take pictures but I don’t feel the need to share those! The machine is a small white box with attachments that look slightly like shower heads with a smooth surface. The treatment itself was not in the least bit painful or even uncomfortable whilst Amy was massaging away the areas we were working on. In the Ultra Sound Cavitation & Radio Frequency treatment there was a slight ringing noise as she applied the ultrasound part of the treatment wand over my tummy but as I say it wasn’t unpleasant in any way and was in fact just like an ultrasound for those of you who know what that feels like! Lipo Angel quickly and painlessly breaks down fat, removes cellulite and lifts and tones your skin using advanced ultrasound technology. You could lose up to 2 inches in just one 45 minute treatment with Lipo Angel; no diet on earth can do that! The Lipo Angel claims to give Instant fat reduction without the need for surgery and after seeing the results I can certainly vouch for that! Afterwards we measured again and I had lost a very encouraging 9.5 cm in total! Amy gave me a follow up after treatment care information leaflet advising you to drink lots of water and not too much tea coffee or alcohol. The Lipo Angel system not
only reduces waistlines it reduces wrinkles too. Using micro lifting and photon skin rejuvenating technology we can decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve acne, sagging skin, scars, stretch marks and more! Having never really considered this sort of treatment I was absolutely blown away by the results and it encouraged me further to stick to my weight loss in a healthy and positive way. Amy is an absolute star and made me feel very comfortable in this situation. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to return for more sessions with the Lipo Angel, and while I’m there next time I’m booking a nail appointment – just before Christmas! If you visit the website you will see details on their regular monthly offers competitions on their fb page!

CHILDREN IN NEED With so many of the local pre and primary schools across the area involved in the Children In Need fund raising last week I simply don’t have the space to list them all but will just squeeze in a big well done to Pebbles on the beach in Shoreham for raising well over £70.00 in their week of cake baking and pyjama wearing on Friday! Also Young Sussex on Upper Shoreham Road had a massive bake-athon all week too, with some tasty treats for sale at the end of each day (big thankyou to them they were yummy!) Absolutely amazing efforts from our little pocket of the country – what fantastic results!
Photography Competition Winner
SPOOOOKY! At the end of October the Children from Upper Beeding Primary School took part in the school’s first Pumpkin Carving Competition, we couldn’t resist sharing their fantastic efforts with you! All entries were displayed that evening at the Halloween disco and helped to create a wonderfully spooky atmosphere. Children and parents danced to Halloween classics before the winning entries were presented with a ghoulish goody bag. The event raised £500 for the school. Pumpkin Carving Competition & Family Disco Organised by Friends of Upper Beeding School – Winners: Alice King (R), Lenny Higgins (Yr 1), Jack Berry (Yr 2), Alf Phillipps (Yr 3), Paris Kenward (Yr 4), Lizzie Cowan (Yr 5), Charlie Carne (Yr 6) – Good Skills everyone!
A fantastic photo of an urban fox sitting in the snow by Paul Robards from North Lancing, has been voted as the overall winner of the Sussex Wildlife Trust’s photographic competition ‘Rain or Shine.’ “I took the pictures during the heavy snow that we experienced earlier this year, at a distance of approx. 35-40 feet. I took a series of the fox coming out and exploring in the snow. I do not think that he had seen snow before. I have always been interested in photography, I used to go out over the downs and fields ‘wildlife spotting’ as a teenager, I used to come back excitedly telling my parents what I had seen. A little owl, or a lesser spotted woodpecker. But I thought I was so close, if I had a camera I could record what I had seen and share the experience with others. So I purchased a long telephoto lens and even a mirror lens (which used to include lots of ‘doughnuts’ in the picture) to capture the images.” Paul is the wildlife co-ordinator at Broadwater Cemetery in Worthing and a member of the Sussex Wildlife Trust. Paul’s photo will appear as December’s calendar image and he also receives a cash prize of £150 donated by The Ecology Consultancy. www.villageliving.biz | tel: 0785 2231512

Caramalised Onion & Mushroom Layered Suet Pudding
A perfect vegetarian option for the big day... Ingredients For the filling 4 large onions – finely sliced 8 large field mushrooms 1 packet of good quality sage and onion stuffing
For the suet pastry 150g vegetarian suet 300g self raising flour 200ml cold water fresh herbs and seasoning
With plenty of butter, slowly caramelise the onions in a deep pan with a couple of teaspoons of sugar, this should take about an hour on a low to medium heat but turn them very frequently until they are golden. Meanwhile bake the mushrooms in a hot oven with plenty of oil and rosemary until they are tender, (roughy 20 mins of 180C) they could also be turned once or twice. Make the stuffing mix. In a large bowl mix the flour, suet and water to form a dough then roll it out, nice and thick and line a well greased pudding basin, making sure you leave enough pastry for the lid. Begin to layer the pudding, onions then mushrooms, then stuffing until full, you may have to cut some of the mushrooms to fill the layers, then place the pastry lid on top and seal with water. Cover in foil with a pleat in the top of the foil to allow for air to expand and steam for 2 hours.
Eat and of course enjoy!

Mind & Body Chris Jones Cognitive Hypnotherapist and Sports Performance Mind Coach NLP Master Practioner, MNCH (reg)*
Hypnotherapy & Chaos Theory
O
ne of the most common symptoms of clients who seek treatment for anxiety-related issues is regret for something they did or didn’t do in the past. For example, a comment like I shouldn’t have married ‘A’ or I should have gone to university etc etc. The basis of chaos theory is that any small change in your life immediately affects those around you, which in turn affects those around those people and on and on. Consequently actions you make today will progressively affect every person in every non-isolated society. This may initially sound ridiculous, but if you think about it, it is true. To exemplify this and the enormous impact of even a minute event, I would offer the following suggestion... If a different sperm (out of the 300Millionish) had fertilized the egg in Adolf Hitler’s mother’s womb, the Hitler we know would not have been born. Millions of people would not have died and also most, if not all, of us would not be alive today. Everything would be different.
Applying this principle in therapy, when I have a situation where the client has regrets, I ask the question ‘what is the most important thing in your life? For most this is family and in particular offspring. So I make the suggestion that if the client hadn’t gone through the bad times, then she(he) would not be where she is today, with the family she has. In my case (due to a certain hedonistic lifestyle), I was kicked out of both University and Polytechnic and my self esteem took a severe battering. I lived with the guilt/shame of this for many years until I realised that if I hadn’t done that, my path in life would have been different. I would not be married to my wife Cathy and have the wonderful family and friends that I have. I can now look back and laugh at those things that negatively impacted on my life and resulted in me being where I am today. A feature of therapy is getting clients to look at things in a different way that reduces or eliminates the issues involved. Turning negatives into positives is one line of attack which
works hand-in-hand with the above approach. Normally being made redundant, as I was in 2004, can be a traumatic experience. However, for me it was one of the best things that ever happened. Instead of continuing in the rat race working for Morrisons/Safeway, I was able to retrain and become a Hypnotherapist, a career change that has enhanced my life considerably. Hypnotherapy is not just about implementing changes using hypnosis, it also about helping the client to see things differently at both conscious and subconscious level, to achieve the desired result(s). Often this involves helping the client to put the past behind and live more in the moment... ‘Carpe diem!’ If you would like me to help you to resolve issues from the past, contact me by phone or email.

Big Plant December
A
t Big Plant Nursery, we have a wide range of ornamental trees of all shapes and sizes, deciduous and evergreen. We produce a lot of the trees ourselves, such as Ginkgo biloba cultivars, Birch trees and Japanese maples. To complement our home-grown trees, we also have a selection of fantastic trees sourced and grown in the UK. Below are listed the trees which are always in stock, but we are able to get hold of most tree species, so if there is a particular tree you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us at the nursery. Have a look at our new tree page on our website in particular we are especially pleased with our grafted Birch selection also new this year is Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’ a superb small evergreen tree suitable for gardens of all sizes, it can even be clipped topiary style. A beautiful evergreen tree with a neat pyramidal form and masses of stunning white cherry-like flowers that appear in June/July. Once thought to be slightly tender this particular cultivar has been growing for many years in West Sussex and has
survived temperatures of below minus 10c whilst remaining evergreen and showing no signs of damage. We have discovered that it is incredibly versatile and is happy ever growing in its natural form or clipped into whatever shape you have in mind making it suitable as a beautiful evergreen tree or screening/hedging plant. Also from our new Birch range, the well known white birch, Betula utilis ‘Jaquemontii’ and the rare Red RIver Birch, Betula albosinesis ‘Kansu’. We graft and grow a choice range of birch at Big Plant Nursery, many of which are choice and difficut to find. Birch trees are happy growing in most soils and situations and will tolerate damp situations better than most other trees. They are fast growing trees and are hard to beat for stunning bark coloration, with varying hues of cream and white offset beautifully against the dark green foliage. We are offering for sale a cost effective option of young trees grafted by us which are quick to establish and are selected from particularly good selections of the type.
Hole Street, Ashington. RH20 3DE. 01903 891466
