DANDYLION STYLE TAILORS
Dandy, dapper and different... Dandylion style tailors
What do you look for in a suit? First of all the suit needs to fit its purpose. You need to consider what the occasion is, and what you want out of the suit. It is very important to establish those things. You can not wear the suit you wear to commute to work at your best friend’s wedding in Tuscany. Each suit would be different in terms of fabric, the weight of the cloth and of course the style. Quality is very important to us. Our suits are made to last, and I want clients to want to keep wearing them, and for this to work the suits need to be unique to the individual and different from the suits they have in their wardrobe.
How are your suits and services unique from others? As a small business we pride ourselves on providing great customer service and attention to detail. So we know our clients and it is very personal. With us you deal with the same person from the beginning to the end and can talk to us at any time. We spend more time with client when choosing the cloth, measuring and designing the suit for them. We don’t have fixed half hour or hour appointments – we spend as much time as needed to make sure that the client is happy with decision we make and give them as much time as needed. Our suits are made in England and fabric is from UK too. A visiting tailor can see clients in their own home or office, which I think is a great and unique service that we offer. We are all busy people, so if you can’t come to see us, we can come to see you.

The New Year is a great time to make a change – that’s what I had to do when facing redundancy 10 years ago from my fantastic career at the BBC for 23 years – the idea of working from home was exciting, but being self employed was scary! I shouldn’t have worried – it’s been the best decision. I now have complete flexibility. If my family are ill I can drop everything to be with them, and I can go out for coffee/lunch or have a holiday when I want! We work for ourselves but under the umbrella of an amazing, ethical, award winning family run company, providing wonderful training, support and mentoring – and we’ll help you and show you what to do – at your own pace. It’s delivered everything it promised and more! But more importantly it’s given me self development, freedom, choices, flexibility and peace of mind. If you like helping people, working as part of a team, are self motivated and are looking for a change where you can work flexibly around your family and/or career, and still earn a good part-time or full-time income, then I’d love to hear from you and we can have an initial chat so I can send you the appropriate information for your needs. There’s SO much more to this than first meets the eye. I look forward to hearing from you.

RECORD-BREAKING XMAS COLLECTIONS IN 2015 HELPS US MAKE A MAJOR DONATION TO WATER AID The Rotary Club of Steyning & Henfield would like to sincerely thank the residents of Steyning in showing amazing levels of generosity and support for our Christmas Collections in 2015. The weather was wet, very wet and windy – but despite this, the kind residents of Steyning, Bramber, and Upper Beeding brought their children to their front doors in order to say hello to Father Christmas and his Rotarian elves and to begin their Christmas celebrations in earnest. Many people told us how much they look forward to the Christmas Carols being played on the Christmas Sleigh at their front doors, and the excitement of their children meeting Father Christmas, to assure him that they have been exceedingly well behaved this year, and yes, they have written their letters. For many, this is the beginning of their Christmas celebrations, and we in Rotary are delighted to be part of this. It also provides an opportunity to invite people along to the Carol Service in Lancing College Chapel, with the Salvation Army Band and leadership, solo singers and our fellow Rotarians from Shoreham & Southwick. We are always delighted when so many people come along to join us in this great Carol Service, and to celebrate Christmas in Song in aid of the hungry and homeless. Our collections over Christmas have raised funds in the region of £2,930 which we have already started to use to help Charities, Organisations and people we support, such as The Salvation Army, Christmas Food Parcels for those in need locally (with generous support from The Steyning Co-op), Steyning Grammar School – Young Musician, Leadership Scheme, and Interact, Steyning Area First Responders, Steyning Millennium Trust, Chanctonbury
Community Playscheme, Friends of Lancing College Chapel, and Henfield Scout Group – “The Oldest Existing Scout Group in the World”. We are now responding to an urgent Worldwide call for support by making a donation of £3,000 to WaterAid which will be matched by the UK Government to make a total donation of £6,000 direct to WaterAid. People need clean water if they are to survive, and every penny spent in support will save lives. Other Charities we are supporting this year includes Macmillan Cancer Support, The Three Forts Challenge – supporting Ferring Country Centre – for training and work experience for people with learning difficulties, Shelterbox, Marie Curie and many other local deserving causes. The Rotary Club of Steyning & Henfield is part of Rotary International, a volunteer organisation formed of local people, united in fellowship to provide support for local people and beyond, and for social groups through fundraising and other activities. We are a small club of around 18 members, all local people who freely give their time to help to make a difference to those most in need. Our members come from a wide range of working backgrounds and we are always keen to welcome new members. Call me if you would like talk about meeting us. We have no rituals and are very informal. We meet for fellowship and dinner at the Castle Hotel in Bramber once a week on Thursdays. If you are interested in finding out more about us, call me and I’d be delighted to answer your questions. Italian Market – Steyning Sunday 13th March 2016, 10am onwards... Steyning is hosting their popular Italian Market within the High Street car park on Sunday 13th March 2016, 10am onwards, but this time it has an added broombroom! Horsham District Council have arranged a “drive round” of Italian cars & motor bikes, which will arrive and be displayed alongside the market between the hours of 1pm to 2pm. These cars are some of the superb examples that will be on show during the
Horsham Piazza Italia X Festival, which is held over the Easter weekend in Horsham Town Centre, but Steyning is having a very special preview! Ferraris and Lamborghinis will jostle with spaghetti, pizzas & cheeses! A great morning out and watch out for special Italian themed offers from businesses on the High Street, both on the day and during the following weeks leading up to Easter. A hot date to put in your diary.

Lose between 7-14 lb in 9 days on the C9 - The 9 day cleanse by Forever Living After doing the Clean 9 myself and after hearing many other success stories, I now promote this program alongside colonics, probiotics, digestive enzymes and colon cleanses where I practice at The Bloomsbury Clinic in Steyning, West Sussex. During a colonic treatment I give my clients plenty of nutritional advise but sometimes we all just need a plan to follow to kick start us in the right direction. We are then hopefully in a better place to make long term changes to our health. The hardest part of any detox is actually starting it! How can I fit it in? I’m going out at the weekend, this is happening, that is happening? What can I say, we all lead busy lives, we all have social events, meals out, meals in, just GO FOR IT, and DO IT NOW! Once you start the time soon goes by and the benefits are so great that you’ll wish you’d started it sooner!

Peppermint Pattieswe should cocoa ... I used to work in an office where, for some unknown reason, it became tradition that if you went away anywhere be it through work or just on holiday, you had to bring back some local confectionary... I think part of the challenge was to find the most obscure sweets you could get your hands on... many a time there would be bowls of bizarre Congolese ant-flavoured boiled sweets laying around the office for weeks before the next batch of candy arrived... ... my absolute favourite foreign confection is the York Peppermint Patty... I simply adore anything with a mint and chocolate combination from the simple mint choc-chip ice cream to the creamy soft after-eight mint... and the peppermint patty with its dark, bitter and crisp chocolate shell, revealing that firm yet yielding minty fresh cream underneath has always been a joy to me... we have similar sweets here in the UK such as the Kendal Mint Cake and Fry’s Mint Bars but none of them really compare to those wonderful foil-wrapped coins... ok, I’m not suggesting for one minute that these are a luxury chocolate in any way but as candy goes, they are, for me, perfection... I hunted high and low across my cookbooks and the internet for an original recipe but there wasn’t a conclusive one I could find so this is a combination of a few including the brilliant Lorraine Pascal... I have also used some green food colouring (can you tell...) because I’m entering these into Chele and Choclette’s We Should Cocoa challenge whose theme this month is green... of all things... oh and I think they’re appropriate for today for some reason too...
INGREDIENTS: 300g icing sugar, 125g condensed milk, 2 tsp peppermint extract (but do judge for yourself... I like it nice and minty), green food colouring, 100g dark chocolate – melted. Place the sugar, milk, food colouring (if using) and peppermint in a bowl and mix together into a ball – dust the work surface with icing sugar and roll out the peppermint dough ball to roughly 5mm thick and cut out as many disk shapes as you like using any shape you desire – place the cut-out patties onto a sugar dusted baking sheet and place it in the fridge for 30 mins – melt the chocolate and let it cool slightly, take the mint patties out of the fridge and dip them into the chocolate, half a disk at a time and then refrigerate again for 30 mins... you can either leave them like this or dip the non-chocolate side so they are fully covered. eat and of course, enjoy!

eeps & Squeaks Studio began life as an idea I had during the pregnancy of my daughter, Evie. At that time I dreamt of starting up a small home-based business centred on my passions of drawing, painting and embroidery. I studied printed textiles at college, but mixed media was much more my thing! While other students were busily mixing up dyes and washing down their print screens, I could be found painting directly onto silks, watching as the dye colours ran together, waiting impatiently for the piece to dry and then rushing to the sewing machine to create line and form on top. I loved the free nature of shape and giving my work a painterly feel. I wasn’t very good at the restraints of pattern in repeat! I have always loved to draw. To create a quality of line in pencil and then to add colour and stitch has been at the heart of my work. I studied my MA at the Royal College of Art and learnt so much during my time there. It was also wonderful to spend two years in London. My work there became much

more experimental. I studied a wide variety of subjects from Japanese origami to florals, sea-life creatures and even machinery. I took influences from a wide range of artists and my work developed and evolved in new ways. When I left the Royal College I was very lucky to be offered a job at fashion accessory company Tait & Style based in Orkney. During my time there I worked on designs for fashion and interior accessories. Since moving to Henfield however, six years ago and having children, I wanted a way to get my creative juices flowing again, combined with motherhood. So at the beginning of my idea for my little home-based business, I wondered what my new inspiration could be. My little Peeps & Squeaks, the nicknames for my daughter, Evie and son, Henry. There can be no greater inspiration for me. Peeps & Squeaks Studio offers bespoke original children’s artwork. Each illustration is hand drawn onto high quality sketch paper or beautiful fine linen canvas, taken from a photograph of your child, niece, nephew or family friend. As the work is completely original it can then be brought to life with paint and hand or machine embroidery. On a simpler piece, fabric can be added for a more mixed media effect. They look beautiful in any setting, and can be framed using a variety of materials and styles including matt white wooden frames. So now, working from my kitchen table (surrounded by the daily wet washing piles, Evie’s crayons and Henry’s toy dinosaurs), I work to create illustrations of my childhood, my children and their friends. Please have a look at my website, www.peepsandsqueaks.com, for more examples of my work and how to contact me. Alternatively, my phone number is: 07887 551 137.

got lists of suitable venues, ideas, suppliers and just having a meeting can put together a great day… What if I want to go it alone? Ans – wedding magazines, with journal attached! , download a wedding planning app or wedding planning journal which will guide you through costing, timings, budgeting etc., view your venues in persons, attend wedding fayres , pinterest for inspiration! There is so much help available at your fingertips these days.
Organising a wedding is no mean feat, it takes time and a lot of thought whether or not you are going small, civil, or full on meringue….luckily there are people around to help! We have put together a comprehensive “where do I start” Q & A with the help of Vivacious Events! Literally, where do I start? Budget, what is your budget, how much are you looking to spend on the whole thing? How much can you afford to spend, from approx. £500 to well, the figure is infinite but let’s go with approximately £20k... Where and when? Think about whether or not you want a church ceremony or, licensed venue, or registry office, what time of year you are looking at… All these things have cost implication when planning, bearing in mind for church you need to be part of the parish and be given permission by the vicar or priest, for registry and licensed venues you would need to give at least 28 day’s notice, (obviously depending upon venue) did you know it is less costly to marry during the week, and during winter if going registry / licensed route…. Choosing your venue is really important as this leads to when, do you want a venue and ceremony in same place? Are people going to be able to get from a to b if you are not, are you able to supply transport? These are all little factors to consider…
Here are a handful of helpful contacts for you… www.vivacious-events.co.uk (events planning) www.hitched.co.uk (everything) www.confetti.co.uk (wedding ideas and planning) www.westsussex.gov.uk (legal stuff) Wishing you every happiness if this is the year you are getting wed, don’t forget its leap year February 29 is a date that usually occurs every four years, and is called leap day. This day is added to the calendar in leap years as a corrective measure, because the Earth does not orbit around the sun in precisely 365 days. The Gregorian calendar is a modification of the Julian calendar first used by the Romans. Today’s society doesn’t frown on women who propose but this wasn’t always the case. There are several theories surrounding the advent of leap year proposals but, back in the days when the rules of courtship were a lot stricter, women were simply not allowed to pop the question. At that time, February 29 wasn’t a recognised date, so the day itself was simply leapt over hence the name. Since it had no legal standing, legend has it that people assumed tradition had no official status on this day, either? Therefore, women had an opportunity to change the custom that only men could propose! Good luck!
Can I just hand it over to you as an event planner? I work full time and don’t have the time available to research and plan but I still want *control* over my decisions. Yes, there are plenty of fantastic event planners around who can put your mind at rest and do the leg work for you, but still sticking to your brief and style… basically our role is to get you the best cost and quality from suppliers out there without the grief! Most planners will have already www.villagelivingmagazine.co.uk | tel: 0785 2231512
