How to be Happy – October
11
I know people who are warm-hearted, and even big-hearted, and right now I’m trying to be open-hearted. The dictionary definition of this is to be candidly straightforward or frank; responsive to emotional appeal. I’m not sure about this. I don’t think of an open-hearted person being candidly straightforward, do you? I’ve asked around and think most people would define open-hearted as being kind, honest and caring but to me it’s also opening yourself to people and experiences. It means not judging people, just embracing them. That can be tricky! Even when people have done us wrong, we don’t need to allow them to upset us or detract from our happiness. Instead we can silently send them love and blessings and offer them compassion. An open heart is a heart that’s not afraid, it knows how to endure sadness, how to heal and how to forgive. An open-hearted person doesn’t hold grudges. There is no point in living life with hate in your heart. The only person to suffer is you. An open-heart will allow you to tell yourself that you’re not going to let that person ruin your happiness forever Being open-hearted means being open to loving deeply. How many of us sobbed into our pillows at having our teenage hearts broken, convinced we could never love again? Some go through it again and again, but closing your heart down never brings future happiness. We’re human and we have to pick ourselves up and give love another go, opening our hearts to the possibility of true and lasting love. A person with an open-heart is a joy and pleasure to be around. Their positive attitude and energy are infectious and inspiring. Who do you know who really makes everyone feel a little better when they enter the room? Their warmth and kindness is what makes the world go round, that keeps society together, that strengthens a relationship. It can be putting an arm around someone, offering to help out, not judging but being inclusive. Being open-hearted also feels like opening yourself up to learn, discover and take delight in what is around you. Having an open heart means wanting to learn something new, see possibilities in life, have a vision. Do you think it sounds a great thing to aspire to? Even trying has got to make the day feel brighter. A very wise woman once told me this. Stand at your window and look at the world outside. Imagine your heart literally opening like a flower, ready to absorb the best that the day will bring you. If your heart is open the day will bring you more than you can possibly hope for. Have a great day. www.villagelivingmagazine.co.uk | tel: 0785 2231512

G
GP TYRES
P Tyres is a mobile tyre fitting service covering most of Sussex. Vince set GP Tyres up earlier this year after several years of looking after his young son at home. Vince’s love of cars extends back longer than he can remember and taking different forms from tinkering on his own cars to winning trophies at race and karting circuits. Once Vince left school, he began working at a garage fitting tyres and ultimately he became a driving instructor. With an in-depth knowledge of how tyres can affect safety and driving performance, GP Tyres was born with the mission of providing customers with a friendly service that saves them time and money. GP tyres aims to take the hassle out of tyre fitting meaning an end to travelling to a busy town and queuing at a traditional garage. Vince and his mobile van travel most of Sussex to fit new tyres and repair punctures at your home or workplace.
Getting a quote couldn’t be simpler. Customers can visit www.gptyres.co.uk and fill in the quick quote form. All enquiries will be answered quickly and tyres can be fitted within 48 hours of the enquiry at a time and location to suit the customer. Alternatively, Vince is happy to give quotes and assistance finding tyre sizes over the phone. If anyone is unsure how to read their tyre size, they can take a photo of their tyre and send it through the quote section on the website. Information and diagrams on the website explain clearly how to find tyre sizes so that this information can be found simply and quickly. The GP Tyres van is equipped with the latest tyre fitting technology and so Vince is able to offer a range of services such as changing run flat tyres, performance tyres, 4x4, van and trailer tyres. Additional services include puncture repairs and fitting winter tyres.
For a tyre fitting service that comes to your home or work, saving you time and money, visit www.gptyres.co.uk or call 07828285051. Find GP Tyres on Facebook for the latest tyre information and updates.

Chocolate & Blackberry Pavlova 3 large free-range egg whites, 200g caster sugar, pinch of salt, 300g blackberries, 75g white chocolate, 300ml double or whipping cream Pre-heat the oven to 150C and line two baking trays with parchment paper... using a pencil, draw around a 6 inch bowl twice to create two medium guide circles, one on each tray. To make the pavlova, place the egg whites in a large bowl and beat them for about 8 minutes or until firm peaks form – I use my electric double whisk set to medium but a balloon whisk on a mixer would be ideal for this job. Keep the mixer turning and slowly add the sugar and salt, tablespoon at a time and then once it’s all been added turn the speed up to its highest setting and whisk for 8 minutes until the eggs are thick and glossy and the sugar has fully dissolved. Divide the mixture equally between the two circles and either pipe pretty rings or go free-style and simply spread the egg whites out evenly... I used a large piping bag and actually found it quite simple to do – but don’t tell anyone... Bake in the oven for 1 hour until the meringue are crunchy on the outside and still soft in the middle – remove from the oven and set aside on a wire rack until completely cold – if you’ve used golden caster sugar like me, your meringue will be a subtle cream colour... Gently melt the white chocolate and set aside whilst you whip your cream into glorious thick billows, then gently combine the cream and the chocolate.. it can tend to go a bit ‘cottage cheesy’ but it still tastes amazing! Tip half the blackberries into the chocolate cream mix and stir together, then spoon half the mixture onto one of the circles of meringue, place the second circle on top and spread the remaining cream onto this and decorate with more blackberries.
