MAGDI CREATIVE DYNAMIC

design is what allows me to use my strengths and talents to connect with people who have visual communication challenges and needs.

design is my tool to gradually make the world a brighter place through collaboration with diverse voices who embody different strengths and skill sets.

design lets me use my strengths to engage and create messages and meaning that go far beyond spoken language to emotionally resonate with my clients and audience.

I am a graphic and website designer who loves clean, simple, and intentional design. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Point Loma Nazarene University. Since then I have worked with hundreds of different clients assisting with many different design needs including but not limited to brand development/strategy, web builds, campaign assets, presentation design, product design, social media, etc..

I have experience working for clients in different industries, such as beverage, biotechology, gaming, financial service, restaurant, interior architecture, health and wellness, human resources, recruiting, etc..

In my current role as the Graphic and Web Design Manager at a digital marketing agency, I oversee project management, assist client communications, lead art direction, and run the entire design and web departments.

In my order to create a strong design, communication, collaboration, and project expectation alignment are essential. Working together as a team internally and externally with a client helps make a concept come to life. It is my job to listen and guide my clients through the design concepts and strategies to create a strong final product that incorporates their vision.

design challenge

Design a brand that represents my spirit, beliefs, personality, work ethic, and overall perception of myself. Create business stationery and design assets that support and showcase your overall brand as a whole.

creative solution

I have always had a huge passion for both design and dance. To this day, I have continued to practice each art form, and I am very intentional about making an impact through the combination of movement and design. I am a go-getter in everything I do, and I always strive to make the environment I am in one that is comfortable, enjoyable, and fun, while creating an atmosphere that is inclusive and centered around community. For this project, I art directed a long exposure photoshoot that captured who I am—a dynamic creative— through the usage of bright lights and dancing, which lead me to the establishment of my tagline. I chose to showcase my name as my brandmark because my name in itself is unique and describes my individuality. My goal was to create a brand that incorporate both dance and design, while capturing my main essence and attributes: ambitious, bold, collaborative, playful, organized, motivated, and determined. This brand development inspired my design concept for PLNU’s Showcase design assets.

The images were captured through a purposeful process: I danced around a dark room while holding a strand of lights, symbolizing the energy I bring to every space I enter. I directed all of the photography, but my assistant and dear friend, Kelly Buck, helped finalize each long exposure shot taken.

plnu senior showcase

event description

Point Loma Nazarene University’s Department of Art and Design puts on a Senior Showcase every Spring. The Portfolio Review, Visual Art Exhibition, and Highlights Show was all included for this event, which was held on PLNU’s campus.

design challenge

Design a poster, postcard, Facebook banner, and an animated GIF that promote the 2019 Senior Showcase for the Art and Design Department at PLNU. Incorporate all of the event details, including PLNU’s logo and all the names of the senior designers.

creative solution

My personal brand heavily impacted my vision for this project. I played with the concept of movement through long exposure shots with lights. This project is highly conceptually driven based on the concept that after graduating, all the senior students we will be moving to different areas and several opportunities will be begin to arise. Although they will not be physically together anymore, they will always be connected through their shared experiences and the lifelong friendships that they have created. They are bright lights in the world as they venture off bringing with them their talents, experiences, and knowledge. I used typographic composition and layout to properly display the event information that was required. Through the use of imagery and typography, I was able to create a simple, clean, yet interesting design that would accurately represent my overall concept through figurative language. I carried the elements from my poster across all media elements required to create a unified theme within my project.

nonigenex

design challenge

Create a brand identity for NoniGenex, the parent company to STORQ, and provide a one-page brand guidelines outlining the brand’s proper usages and design criteria. Create a branded Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) presentation template for NoniGenex showcasing who the company is as a whole, while incorporating data to support their research. In addition, create a brand identity for STORQ, and mockup packaging and testing cassettes for the four tests that STORQ provides, which will be shown to prospects and potential key investors.

creative solution

For the brand developments for NoniGenex and STORQ, I held two different branding sessions with the client where we reviewed a design brief, discovered their brand attributes, created a moodboard, explored key competitors/stakeholders, and went over colors and font psychology to help nail down the direction for their brand. The direction for their visual brand was highly driven by their attributes: dependable, innovative, modern, trustworthy, feminine, and fresh. Once the branding was established, I created a branded PPT presentation for the client that included an overview about who the company is and what services they offered. I also mocked up some branded icons and packaging prototypes and cassettes that showcased the four types of conditions that STORQ can identify: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Preeclampsia, Preterm Labor, and Rupture of Membranes.

amazon juices

design challenge

Rebrand Amazon Juices, a Brazilian food and juice hub located in Santa Cruz, California. Create a signature unique to the Santa Cruz culture and authentic style of Brazil, as well as design all business stationery leading to the establishment of the manual.

creative solution

In order to create the perfect rebrand for Amazon Juices, I started by collecting research about the company and what they stand for. I took into consideration Santa Cruz’s free spirited, natural, and embracing culture, which I felt should strongly influence the conceptual direction for the new brand. After I had a complete understanding of those two aspects, I began by creating an abstracted illustration that was representative of rejuvenation, refreshness, and revitalization, all key attributes to the brand itself, which thus became the new tagline. I carried my signature across all business stationery, and I designed a brand manual for Amazon Juices that helps show the brand in print, ephemera, digital, and environmental settings to properly aid future uses for the brand as a whole. industry Restaurant

design challenge

Design a unique brand identity for a fictional resort of your choosing. Push yourself out of your comofort zone, and create a signature, a complete set of business stationery, and a full brand manual.

creative solution

I designed a brand for a modern, elegant, adventurous, and intimate early 2119 sightseeing resort with hubs located in Utah, Peru, Antarctica, France, Singapore, Kenya, and Australia. This resort is based entirely in the atmosphere—allowing guests to experience scenery from a perspective they have never been able to attain, while living in complete luxury, relaxation, and privacy. The overall brandmark is symbolic of the relationship between the bubble resort and the earth, which creates a comfortable, yet enticing surreal experience for its audience. The logotype and signature are designed to support all of the aspects of a bubble: light, thin, structured, and natural. I created the brand manual showing different print, ephemera, environmental, and digital uses for the signature, as well as all business stationery. I based the brand concept on the atmospheric luxury, which is exemplified in the brand promise.

The primary color palette for the brand is silver and black; however, depending on where the customer decides to book their stay, the color palette will be adjusted. Each hub/ bubble has a specific secondary color palette designed to create a more memorable and interactive experience for the guests. The colors complement the key aspects of a bubble and were chosen based on the natural colors that surround the given location of the hubs to create a reflective bubble-like feel to each destination.

Partner with YuFlu, a biotechnology company, to design different stickers that restaurants, shopping centers, and offices can display on their windows indicating that their team members are getting routinely tested for COVID-19. YuFlu is the first DTC sequencing as a service screen for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections that uses FDA-cleared collection devices.

creative solution

I met with the client to create a moodboard and to review their brand guidelines and vision when it came to showcasing their brand and advertising their testing stickers. After gaining a better understanding of the brand, the client and I decided that it would be nice to design three different stickers that were modern, fun, captivating, and simplistic. The client wanted each sticker to resonate with a different age demographic: young adolescents, working professionals, and the elderly. Each sticker targets each demographic and captivates the clean and simplistic, yet fun side that the YuFlu brand evokes.

event description

University of San Diego hosted a conference on their campus on Henri Nouwen, one of the most widely read authors of Christian spirituality in the late 20th century. This event was centered around informing the community of Henri Nouwen’s beliefs and overall way of being. At this conference, speakers Fr. John Dear, Sue Mosteller, CSJ, Robert Ellsburg, and Shane Claiborne discussed various details about Henri Nouwen’s life and overall mission in society.

design challenge

Create a series of two engaging 18”x 29” posters for the legacy of Henri Nouwen Conference. Choose one of Nouwen’s famous sayings, and present it across two variations of original poster designs. Include both the Point Loma Nazarene University and University of San Diego logos on all two of the poster series.

creative solution

I began by researching Nouwen’s life in-depth. I discovered one of his main objectives was challenging his audience to be an advocate for others who do not necessarily have a voice. I chose to base my entire poster series on the concept of advocating for others. Through the use of hierarchy in terms of composition, as well as black and white imagery, I was able to create a memorable experience for my audience and allow Nouwen’s quote to be the main focus of the posters. Through color, scale, mood, imagery and typography, I was able to establish a unifying theme throughout my two posters that urged my audience to take action in speaking up for others just as Nouwen did.

genius juice

design challenge

Create content through photography, graphics, and gifs that can be used to feature the Genius Juice brand. This content will be pushed out on social platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

creative solution

I worked alongside the Social Media Manager to plan out the content calendar for her monthly posts. I then went out and collected different props, for instance food and clothing, and chose different environments to take custom photography with the Genius Juice product. I worked with different models and art directed the photoshoots so that the product was the main focus. The photoshoots were held in the environments that the targeted customer would spend majority of their time: the gym, yoga, outdoors, paying basketball, etc.. In addition, I created custom graphics that would engage the user on social media. I create several animated gifs and product unboxing videos that were used for brand content.

Design Point Loma Nazarene University’s 2017 Arts and Humanities Scholarship Report alongside Courtney Mayer, an Associate Professor of Point Loma Nazarene University’s Department of Art and Design. Use the prior years’ reports as a template to model, but customize the typography, images, and composition.

creative solution

I worked alongside Courtney Mayer as the production designer during the process of creating the 2017 Arts and Humanities Scholarship Report. Courtney and I received the unedited copy for the entire report, and I carefully edited the text to fit the overarching points discussed throughout the report. I used the prior years’ Scholarship Report as a guide and inputted the new copy. I used composition, hierarchy, and alignment throughout the entire report, as well as photography to create an overall visually compelling report that represents PLNU’s culture, mission, and welcoming community.

custom web builds

design challenge

Create a custom web build using WordPress that depicts who the client is and the services they offer. Add in necessary plugins, security, and connect the site to the client’s CRM. Set up hosting, SEO, Google my Business, Google Analytics, Search Console, and add Google reCAPTCHA’s onto the site.

creative solution

I have built and managed over sixty custom websites in WordPress and Squarespace with the Digital Storyteller team that capture who the client is, the services they provide, and their brand story. Typically, my web build process takes approximately twelve weeks from start to finish to get the site up and running. The site’s are all build in WordPress, and are fully SEO integrated, while being compliant friendly. I work alongside the client to create the entire site design and copy to make sure the client’s vision is being fully captured. My IT guy will help me with the initial WordPress set up and the final launch with gathering all of the 301 redirects. In addition, for every web build, I create a social launch spreadsheet for my clients with custom captions and visuals that they can choose to push out when announcing their site launch. My website process is very collaborative, and it requires a lot of attention to detail to make sure that all of the design and copy is depicting the client’s brand voice, while adhering to any compliance restrictions and meeting the technical constraints.
