Ecuador
Named after its location on the equator, Ecuador is the smallest of the Andean countries. Despite its size, South America’s smallest country is distinguished by the diversity of its geography. In the highland region lies the capital city Quito, with a charming colonial centre and situated at 2,850 metres above sea level. In contrast, the Pacific coast boasts beautiful beaches and glorious sunshine. The Amazon region invites you to delight in the magical lagoons and marvellous primal forest.
The Galapagos Islands, some 1,000 km off the coast in the Pacific Ocean, also belong to Ecuador. This isolated Archipelago, formed by volcanic eruptions, is a window into prehistory with an abundance of rare and unique species of plants and animals. BAÑOS A tranquil small town, know amongst adventure lovers, where horse riding, mountain biking, rafting activities can be taken. Soak up in the hots springs or visit one of the many massage studios around town. COTOPAXI One of the world’s highest active volcanoes, the perfectly conical Cotopaxi sits the background of may cities including Quito.

TRAIN OF WONDERS (TREN CRUCERO)
4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS Day 1: QUITO – OTAVALO – IBARA – QUITO (L, D) From Quito we will start our trip to the coast, first climbing to the Chimborazo volcano moorlands along the Avenue of Volcanoes. We depart Quito early in the morning for a oneand-a-half drive north. In Otavalo, home of a millenary market, a carefully restored steam engine awaits us. At a slow pace we will discover the many wonders hidden in this part of the country: musicians, painters, weavers and the skilful woodcarvers who keep the renowned Quito School style alive; After a tasting of traditional Andean cuisine and a visit to a rose plantation we return to Quito. Day 2: QUITO – URBINA – RIOBAMBA (B L D) Transfer to Chimbacalle railway station where you board the Tren Crucero. Here, the Andes range splits into two arms that run parallel down South. The fertile valley trapped between these stone walls hosts a treasure trove of biodiversity. GALAPAGOS ISLANDS Located some 1000kms off the Pacific coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are made up of 13 main islands, 6 smaller islands and more than 40 tiny islets. Discovered in 1535, this archipelago inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of ‘Evolution of the Species’ as the animals and plants have adapted to the geography of each island because of their isolation from the mainland. Due to the volcanic origin and location of the islands on the equator, the Galapagos Islands are constantly changing. Many volcanoes found here are still active.
