THE ANTARCTIC PENINSULA The Antarctic Peninsula is the northernmost part of Antarctica, which lies about 1000 km across the Drake Passage from Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost part of South America. The peninsula is highly mountainous, its highest peak rising about 2,800 m, including Mount Castro, Mount Coman and Mount Gilbert. Abundant wildlife can be found here, including seabirds, seals and penguins. The peninsula includes a stretch of 540 km of volcanic islands that make up the South Shetlands. These include: Deception Island, Lemaire Channel, Paradise Harbour, Half Moon Island and Wilhelmina Bay. Wildlife found on the Antarctic Peninsula Leopard seals, southern elephant seals and crabeater, and wedell seals. Seabirds such as fulmar, petrels (cap and snow), skuwa, albatross, imperial shag and snowy sheathbill. Penguins include gentoo, chinstrap and Adelie. Whales include minke, humback, orca, sei and fin. FALKLAND ISLANDS Imagine a place that is so far off the beaten track you have miles of stunning landscape, beaches and magnificent bird life all to yourself. Imagine a silence that is only broken by the call of the birds, and your own footsteps as you explore these beautiful islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. This is the Falkland Islands, one of the last great wilderness destinations where your trip becomes an adventure. Normally part of a longer voyage, (at least 15 nights), Falklands Islands offers visitors history and abundant wildlife. The Falkland Islands are the ultimate birding experience with large, easily accessible colonies of some of the world’s rarest and most enchanting birds. There are plenty of species for the amateur birder and the enthusiast

alike. Best known for penguins, the antics of these birds never fail to delight both at sea and on shore. Majestic king, feisty rockhopper, raucous gentoo and shy magellanic penguins are easy to find with the more elusive macaroni penguin and even hybrids blending into rockhopper colonies in some locations. SOUTH GEORGIA South Georgia, located 1300 miles east of Tierra del Fuego in the South Atlantic Ocean, a combination of underwater topography and currents product rich seas that support some of the most populous seal, penguin and seabird colonies on the planet, (elephant seals, fur seals and king penguins) .It has no tree cover, and there is generally snow on the island during the winter months (April-November). The terrain is mountainous, with a central ridge and many fjords and bays along the coast.
