CLUB MED MICHES PLAYA ESMERALDA New For 2020 Grand Opening January Dominican Republic Along the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, on the southern edge of Samaná Bay and an 80 minute drive from Punta Cana Airport, the Michès region is a hidden tropical paradise, characterized by pristine, powdery beaches where coconut palms spring up from the shoreline and lush, varied jungle spills out onto the sands. January 28 - 31, 2020, Club Med, the pioneer of the all-inclusive concept, opened its new 5-Trident (5-star) resort in Miches, a secluded paradise located on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda will be the very first operating resort in the undiscovered northeast region of the island and the brand’s first Exclusive Collection resort in the Americas, as well as its first resort opening in the North American region in over 25 years. 335 guestrooms split across four villages. They include the 111-room Caribbean Paradise, which will be open to any traveler type, and the 158-room Explorer Cove, which is designed for multigenerational families. The property’s two adult-only villages the 48-room, wellness-themed Emerald Jungle and the 18-suite Archipelago offer a quieter, more intimate atmosphere.

AUBERGE RESORTS COLLECTION New For 2020 January Re-Opening Kona-Kohala, Big Island - Hawaii The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows on the Kona-Kohala Coast of the Big Island is set in the middle of the lava landscape and has been a mainstay and oasis for the last three decades. It is secluded and tranquil, with a gorgeous stretch of coastline that faces the sunset. Management of the property has changed over the years, but in 2018, Auberge Resorts Collection, known for uber-luxe resorts that each have a strong sense of place, took over and initiated a massive $200 million renovation to revitalized the resort. The reimagined hotel, now called Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection, opened on January 15 and is the luxury brand’s first Hawaii property. The renovation to the property, which spans 32 acres, includes major upgrades to public areas, overhaul of its 333 guest rooms and suites, the addition of new pools and a pool bar, and entirely revamped restaurants and spa. The landscape of Kalāhuipua’a the ancient name for this area is steeped in rich cultural history. Its location relative to the island’s five volcanoes is considered a piko, or spiritual center, making this an important place, with ancient fishponds and historic petroglyphs. The sense of place is still there, despite the renovated lobby and revamped rooms.
ROSEWOOD LITTLE DIX BAY, VIRGIN GORDA, BVI New For 2020 January Re-Opening Vigin Gorda British Virgin Islands One of the most anticipated reopenings in 2020 is the Rosewood Little Dix Bay. The resort was opened in 1964 by Laurance Rockefeller and has been a retreat for repeat guests for decades. It shuttered in 2016 for planned renovations, and just as it was about to reopen, the hurricanes turned a yearlong project into a four-year odyssey. January saw the reopening of the retreat, which ushers in a new age for the property. The reimagined resort has 80 new guestrooms, suites and villas, including Tree House Suites and One-Bedroom Pool Suites. The 500-acre resort on a half-mile stretch of beach features four dining venues, two pools, a new fitness center and Sense, a Rosewood Spa. As an homage, the guestrooms and public spaces are decorated with vintage photographs and tokens from its 1960s heyday. Rates for the Rosewood Little Dix Bay start at $1,625. A selection of new services and amenities, such as a devoted butler service, have also been introduced to heighten the guest experience. New luxury catamarans are on hand to whisk guests to the resort with a brief tour of the area’s coastal highlights.
FRENCHMAN’S REEF MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA New For 2020 Spring Re-Opening St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands Shuttered since Hurricane Irma hit in 2017, the resort previously known as the Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort will be flagged as the Frenchman’s Reef Marriott Resort & Spa. The new Noni Beach, a St. Thomas Resort will be part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. It will have 94 guestrooms, a beachfront infinity-edge pool with swim-up bar, and a 3,000-square-foot ballroom. Noni Beach will be the first Autograph Collection hotel in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The resort complex located on the Caribbean Sea will provide several distinctive dining experiences for families and singles. The Frenchman’s Reef Marriott Resort & Spa, dramatically situated atop a harbor-side cliff with panoramic ocean views, will boast 384 guest rooms, including 28 spacious suites, three resort pools including an infinity edge pool with swim-up pool bar, a state-of-the-art luxury wellness spa, and 85,000 square feet of extraordinary indoor and outdoor event space. The family-friendly resort will have ample activities for kids that will teach them about the environment and how we can help preserve it. CONRAD PUNTA DE MITA, RIVIERA NAYARIT New For 2020 Grand Opening May Riviera Nayarit Mexico Coming to Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, the thoughtfully designed Conrad Punta de Mita will offer travelers an authentic, tranquil respite. All 324 guest rooms and suites will boast views of the Pacific Ocean, with suites offering large patios, plunge pools, freestanding soaking tubs and outdoor showers. Four restaurant and three bar concepts will offer menus and spaces that pay tribute to age-old techniques and flavors of the local culture among them, an intimate mezcal and tequila barrel tasting room, and a joyous lobby bar, Tuki, which borrows its name from the Huichol word for ‘temple. The Conrad SPA will offer a refuge from the pace of everyday life with a unique indoor/outdoor design and traditional temazcal spread across 10,000 square feet. Seven cocoon treatment cabanas will be nestled among the vegetation and connected by an inspiring tunnel of plants and flowers. Fitness center offerings include an outdoor lawn for yoga and stretching. Minutes away, adventure activities such as zip-lining, sailing and seasonal whale watching await. ECLIPSE - HALF MOON, MONTEGO BAY JAMAICA New For 2020 Grand Opening March Half Moon Jamaica Half Moon, Montego Bay, Jamaica, this month, the legendary (and still family-owned) spot introduced a new chapter in its storied history with the March 1 opening of Eclipse at Half Moon, a newly built luxury resort that offers its own dedicated accommodations, facilities, and amenities, as well as access to all that the property at large has to offer. Eclipse was designed by noted architecture and design firm Hart Howerton of New York and San Francisco in a breezy, Anglo-Caribbean aesthetic, with both Jamaican culture and the resort’s history reflected in details like vintage family photos and custom murals in the style of artist Michael Lester, whose work famously captured the spirit of Caribbean life.
