Lizzie Rowe text by celia holmes In this exhibition we see Lizzie exploring Green Man. Traditional Pagan three distinct sets of preoccupations. The first, The Book of Dresses, is a record of dresses remembered, imagined and observed. The imagery is what we have come to expect from Lizzie over recent years – her drawings and paintings of feminine clothing have proved very popular. Each drawing stands alone, but as a ‘wall’ of dresses the installation has a resonance and a strong presence. The second strand sees Lizzie investigating the ancient theme of the

Antony Marshall The Biscuit Factory is very happy to welcome back Anthony Marshall to the gallery. Marshall presents the world from his unique perspective. Drawing his inspiration from the observation of everyday life, people and various things around him. His artistic touch is unusual and distinctive, injecting cosmopolitan colour into everyday scenes. 5
Marshall has an individual use of colour - naturalistic rendering of reality is substituted for bold exclamations of bright colour coupled with occasional splashes of expressionism.
“I depend on the bright clean colours that acrylic gives me, allied to line and form and using multiplane perspective. I strive to achieve a personal and hopefully unique interpretation of the contemporary world around us. I feel that colour is the lifeblood of the painting”.

This is the second time we show work by Newcastle born, ex-solicitor, Richard Davidson at the Biscuit Factory. Davidson is a graduate of Wimbledon School of Art. He has had many group and solo shows and won the BHF Bank small painting competition in 1998.

RichardDavidson
Richard’s work addresses the extraordinary ordinariness of objects. Many of his paintings are of the accoutrements of businesss life, isolating them within unadorned, matt, abstract grounds. These badges of office: formal suits, ties, shirts, briefcases and polished shoes, recall his prior career in the City of London.
“Painted with a sense of precision acquired in my formerlife, my paintings refer both to the worlds of private meaning as well as to wider issues such as loss of identity and corporate uniformity. I am interested in the gulf between private and shared meaning and intend to evoke, simultaneously, both the sharing and denial of understanding that arises from the use of our private languages.” 6

PaineProffitt
Proffitt was born in Arizona in 1972 to journalistic parents and it was traveling from one country to another that he believes has shaped his art and his personality. Paine Proffitt is interested in painting people, emotion, and identity, mainly 7

focusing on the emotional and psychological aspects of people and the human condition. His work tends to take a dreamlike and slightly surreal look at a wide range of themes, from people, identity, history, love, heartache, sport, and many others.

“I hope my work helps to tell or create a story, and that the viewer can come away from a painting with part of their own story or life connected to the piece.”
Catie Gough
In the garden of roses | £165 | Ceramic | 30cm height
The constant theme of Catie’s work is the ordinary person. She likes to celebrate those of us that others simply don’t see. Teamed with the figure, other aspects of her work are more whimsical, using flora and fauna. We live such busy lives and we live alongside a world that continues

without our notice. Birds flit from the trees and build their nests. Flowers grow, bud and bloom next to the structures where we live and work. By bringing both figure and nature together, Catie hopes to glorify the unnoticed and the carefree.
“Catie’s work freezes moments in time, which then become special, elevated visions that surround us all the time though we are usually too busy to see them.” Katie Malone 8

Mychael Barratt Mychael’s work is greatly influenced by literature, theatre, films and art history, and is peppered with references to all of these. 9
There is an underlying narrative element in each piece, which is important although not always immediately apparent. The titles
often provide keys to the narrative. They are such a central part of the creative process that they are usually conceived at the same time as the image

Anja Percival The artworks Anja creates are fine art prints, or more specifically, etchings. Although the term ‘print’ implies that a photographic process is involved, this is not the case here as etchings are not
necessarily ‘carbon copies’ as many people mistakenly believe. Anja is fascinated by the different atmospheres that light creates in both our rural and urban environments.
Since moving to Denmark in 2005, she has been hugely inspired by her new surroundings and her most recent work has been influenced by the more ‘urban’ scenery within which she lives.

Walter uses all subject matter to express his interest in the way that light (especially sunlight) enlivens all that it falls upon. Water and marine subjects feature prominently in his portfolio, as do city centre scenes. His work is
exhibited in galleries throughout the UK, and many are in private collections worldwide.
I am an artist who follows a traditional path, my pictures are usually representational. H
however, my main interest is the effect of light on the subject depicted - as with Impressionism. Similarly, my interest in Abstract Expressionism results in the emotive impact of the mark being as important as the subject.

stories of my sea-faring ancestors, I was sure I’d be a sailor. Instead I got to be an architect and now I’m an artist.” Colin paints and makes prints, usually relief prints. He often works in a series,
in which the paintings and prints inform each other. The work is figurative, abstracted in colour and line, which allow him to focus on expression and invite an emotional response from the viewer.
