MAKERY

The Wells Makery is an illustration and hand lettering studio nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Southwest Colorado. Run by Annie Brooks (wife of the above mentioned Jacob Brooks!) and Whitney Watts, The Wells Makery specializes in decadent florals, custom maps and portraits, and modern calligraphy. They work closely with every client to create a product that communicates their style and that compliments the mood of their wedding. Annie was raised by a family of traveling illustrators and musicians who taught her that to live creatively is wildly relevant, delightfully ridiculous, and shockingly practical. She’s spent the last 10 years swept up in all kinds of eclectic adventures. all over the globe. In her free time, she viscously attacks the sketchiest thrift stores she can find, and takes care of a pair of domesticated doves who love mac and cheese. K AT IE

Thank you so much for organising such an amazing workshop! Honestly, the venue was perfect and had the most beautiful view I think I’ve ever seen. The experience has given me a lot to think about and has helped me redefine my goals. I walked away feeling inspired. All the little details were very thoughtful and purposeful, which made the workshop feel ‘special’. Dominque Hardy, Australia - attended Queenstown, NZ March 2015 Forage and Fern was a dream to attend. Kate in her creative vision curated an exceptional line up of talents who enriched the learning experience. Queenstown in early autumn is a truly beautiful sight… the venue and the landscape were the most incredible canvas for each shoot… but what made this workshop so special was the generosity, openness and creative talent of each guest speaker. So much more than photography… we learnt about the art of styling, florals, defining our own personal style as well as some invaluable insights into editorial work, creating submissions and to get busy with collaborations. Forage and Fern changed the way I tackle each new creative venture as well as fostering awesome industry contacts and friends! Dawn Thomson, New Zealand - attended Queenstown, NZ March 2015 Attending the Forage & Fern workshop was an amazing growth experience! Kate and the team of creatives left no stones uncovered while creating and executing portfolio building shoots for us. I gained a better understanding of photography, styling, florals and collaborating with wildly talented creatives - all in one workshop - slam dunk! I am happy that I made the investment in myself to further my understanding as a creative. As well as the investment to grow relationships with other talented creatives in our industry. Ultimately, it was ridiculously fun being surrounded by people who are passionate about being creative and eager to help you grow. Brian Whitt, Oregon - attended Carmel, California October 2015 I have been lucky (yes lucky!) to be part of the Forage & Fern California workshop. What I learnt and witnessed exceeded my expectations. Kate knows how to assemble a skilled team such as Tec, Carrie, Katie and Jess to name a few. It was a friendly and educative mind blowing experience. That was it - a boost for my career! David Dufeal, France - attended Carmel, California October 2015

Galiano Island is an easy 45 min ferry ride from Vancouver. The Tsawwasen terminal is about 30 mintues from the Vancouver airport. Ferry times run on a limited timetable at this time of year so your travels will need to be planned around this. The best ferry to get is the 11.10am ferry on Sunday October 9th. That will get you to the venue nice and early to relax for the day before the workshop officially starts with the welcome dinner that evening. We are more than happy to help coordinate this with you and closer to the time we’ll have a facebook page available for you to get to know other attendees and make travel plans. There are also seaplane options from both Vancouver and Seattle. We need to vacate the lodge very early Thursday morning, and will be on the 8.25am ferry off the island that day. Of course you’re more than welcome to make your own plans to stay elsewhere on the Island should you wish to.
