Welcome WE CAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU
We’re very excited to be hosting the fourth Forage & Fern workshop in October 2017, and our second on the beautiful Galiano Island, a small outcrop 45 minutes from Vancouver, British Columbia by ferry. Spending time surrounded by nature and connecting with passionate people nurturing not only their businesses but themselves, is something we’re very excited about fostering! And our venue of Bodega Ridge is a magical spot that will leave you feeling completely rejuventated and rested, not to mention inspired. We have an incredible line up of creative talents that will be opening up and sharing their knowledge and stories with you and we know you will gain invaluable lessons from them and form life long bonds. This is no ordinary workshop where you leave at the end of the day and head to your own digs. It’s an all inclusive experience where the days are as full as your bellies will be by sundown. Which leads me onto the food! The food. It’ll handsdown be the best food you’ve eaten in your life for 4 days in a row... no really! We will eat all meals together and welcome partners to join us. Over three and a half days you will be inspired to create beauty with purpose and authentic meaning whilst learning to look at things in a different light and feel refreshed after connecting with like minded artists and fellow photographers. This workshop will have a very practical focus and teach you how to work with your clients in order to translate your vision whilst retaining their individuality. Our purpose is to help you reach your fullest business potential and gain your own voice in an ever changing and competitive market. It will provide you with the tools to expand your business to the next level, find your personal style and to tailor it in the direction that’s right for you and your lifestyle. On top of all of this, you will make life long connections guaranteed! The relationships built at these workshops are often one of the biggest benefits. Suitable for both film & digital photographers with a little experience under their belts, we look forward to having you join us for this retreat like workshop and experience three unforgettable days of creative goodness, breathtaking and real beauty, kinship and laughter.

The Wells Makery is an illustration and hand lettering studio nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Southwest Colorado. Run by Annie Brooks (wife of the above mentioned Jacob Brooks!) and Whitney Watts, The Wells Makery specializes in decadent florals, custom maps and portraits, and modern calligraphy. They work closely with every client to create a product that communicates their style and that compliments the mood of their wedding. Annie was raised by a family of traveling illustrators and musicians who taught her that to live creatively is wildly relevant, delightfully ridiculous, and shockingly practical. She’s spent the last 10 years swept up in all kinds of eclectic adventures. all over the globe. In her free time, she viscously attacks the sketchiest thrift stores she can find, and takes care of a pair of domesticated doves who love mac and cheese. K A T IE

Due of the unique nature of this venue and our exclusive use of it, we have a few spots for non-attending significant others to participate in all the after hours and optional activities and meals. There is no shortage of things to do on the island and it’s a nice way for us to get to know more about your life outside of photography - and it keeps the dinner conversations varied! The cost for a non-attending seat is $750 and this includes all their accommodation and meals.
kind words FROM ALUMNI
It’s hard to imagine a workshop having a more inspirational team of vendors. I find it hard to put to words how deeply we all were changed but I’m certain not a single person left Galiano Island the same as they arrived. I know I will never forget the love and generosity shared by this group and I would return again just to reconnect and be inspired
to share the art I have in me. Oh and I have to mention: the food. You simply won’t know until you go but it will be the best 4 days of eating in your life. Kate Holland and the team absolutely passed all possible expectations of what a “workshop” can be! Justin Tearney, Pennsylvania - attended British Columbia, Canada October 2016 I thought I came to Forage & Fern to learn to be a better photographer (and I certainly did) but what I didn’t know was how badly I needed to connect and share my struggles with encouraging instructors, vendors and attendees. The freedom those discussions provided helped the endless beauty, creativity, technical know-how, and business advice this workshop provides be that much more impactful. I really will never forget this special workshop and hope to attend more in the future. Jenni Kupelian, Oregon - attended British Columbia, Canada October 2016 I wanted to send you a quick note to sincerely thank you for this past week. I can’t say enough positive things about the Forage & Fern workshop. If I’m being completely honest, being that I’m so new to the industry, I came into this experience feeling as though I may be the odd one out. I expected to feel intimidated and overwhelmed by the caliber of talent from the attendees and vendors and that I would ultimately feel a bit inadequate. My experience, however, could not have been more opposite. Frankly, I’m in awe at how supportive, encouraging and positive the group was. I left feeling confident, c apable and motivated, and I can say with confidence that it was because of this workshop. I also wanted to commend you for your attention to detail and organization of the workshop. The choice of venue, the styled shoots, the welcome kits. Everything was simply over the top! The food and accommodations made it feel like more of a retreat than a workshop. The people, the venue (the food!!), and the vendors made this experience unforgettable. I launched my business earlier this year, and this workshop was exactly what I needed to feel confident and capable to succeed in this industry. The support and encouragement from the attendees was so assuring, and I will truly cherish the lifelong friendships I’ve made. This workshop equipped me with the tools to create a sustainable and thriving business, and I’m so excited to move forward with everything I’ve learned!! Mackenzie Dempsey, Canada - attended British Columbia, Canada October 2016 Forage and Fern was exactly what I didn’t know I needed at the end of a busy wedding season. I signed up for the workshop expecting to receive creative and business tips to help learn and grow my business. It goes without saying that I received those in spades, but they were not the highlight of my week. The opportunity to sit shoulder to shoulder with elite vendors at a long tables and enjoy meals family style and chat as equals was an experience I will always cherish. The entire week was one of inclusiveness, love and acceptance: there was no competition or no ego among attendees or vendors, as everyone was there to learn, grown and explore. I left Bodega Ridge totally rejuvenated and refreshed with a new group of friends to boot! I will be doing my very best to come back to Forage and Fern next year, I’m considering it an essential part of my workflow ;) Dana Fisher, Canada - attended British Columbia, Canada October 2016

Galiano Island is an easy 45 min ferry ride from Vancouver. The Tsawwasen terminal is about 30 mintues from the Vancouver airport. Ferry times run on a limited timetable at this time of year so your travels will need to be planned around this. The best ferry to get is the 11.10am ferry on Sunday October 15th. That will get you to the venue nice and early to relax for the day before the workshop officially starts with the welcome dinner that evening. We are more than happy to help coordinate this with you and once we receive your registration we will join you up to the group facebook page so that you can connect with other attendees and coordinate travel plans. There are also seaplane options from both Vancouver and Seattle. We need to vacate the lodge very early Thursday morning, and will be on the 8.25am ferry off the island that day. Of course you’re more than welcome to make your own plans to stay elsewhere on the Island should you wish to.
