WALLED CITY OF LAHORE IS THE OLDEST
LIVING WALLED CITY IN THE WORLD.
FIELD WORK
IN AN ATTEMPT TO REVIVE THIS 4000 YEAR OLD CITY WITHIN A CITY, THE WALLED CITY OF LAHORE AUTHORITY COLLABRATING WITH AGA KHAN FOUNDATION TOOK UP THE RESPONSIBILITY OF DOCUMENTING THE
EXISTING STATE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD KNOWN AS BAZAAR-E-HAKEEMAN. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO INTERNSHIP WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD AUTHORITY DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT I WAS PAIRED WITH TWO COLLEAGUES OF MINE TO DOCUMENT THE BAZAAR-E-HAKEEMAN (MARKET OF THE TRADITIONAL DOCTORS). THE GALI (STREET) WE DOCUMENTED WAS KNOWN AS ‘TIBBI
