01 The Ribbon
GEOMETRY
SUPERIMPOSED
This architecture studio focused on the historical layers of the urban fabrics of Berlin. The Jüdengang in Berlin was the site for this project. Two large vaults frame the site infilled by two towers floating above the ground to allow a connection from Kollwitzplatz to Jüdengang. Each tower is essentially a series of volumes stacked upon one another. They are separated by a void serving as a lightwell. The stairs are detached from the building and stitched back to the towers by bridges which consciously seem too small to be considered bridges. Le Corbusier’s Maison Jaoul was the precedent study for The Ribbon. The two houses were designed to be economic. The houses use construction elements like concrete and brick on the outside as part of the design, but plastered interior walls with exposed Catalan vaults.

02 Dieste Wall 3.0
Building Shop explores the work of the Uruguayan engineer Eladio Dieste through the construction of Ruled Surface using local traditional building materials like bricks. Dieste Wall 3.0 focuses on the analysis and documentation of a previously constructed iteration through an itemized catalogue and individual spatial relationships. The work structure
started by analyzing the of

constructed by students in an earlier version of the building shop. Total of 84 lines were drawn on the wall. Each line represents a section cut. The height, the depth, and the indentation of each brick and mortar line that section lines crossed were measured and recorded manually. The information extracted from Dieste Wall 2.0 were later used to create a virtual version of the wall using Rhino 3D.

03 Central Park
This building arts studio focuses on urban design using main city blocks and town squares around North America. The southeast corner of Central Park was my main focus in analyzing and understanding the movement from the city to the park.

The goal of the kinetic vault was to prototype a deployable structure using a sustainable material like cardboard. The vault was used as study to test to capabilities and limitations of cardboard as a building material. Inspiration for the scissor joint structure came from the kid’s toy “Haberman Sphere”. The form and function of the sphere were modified to act as a barrel vault that collapsed in a similar motion. The width of the barrel vault fully extended is 12 feet with the depth able to be modified by adding additional 30-inch sections. When collapsed, the vault closes to 3’ wide and 8-inches deep.

05 Sections
This building arts studio focuses on the section cut as a fundamental architectural representation — a mechanism for defining and seeing space. Coupe, profil, scenographica, sciographia, spaccoto, and section are all terms used to describe a vertical cut through form and space. The section cut reveals the relationship between interior and exterior, between forms and forces, and between space and time.

LETTER OF INTENT
DoArch graduate admissions committee:
South Dakota State University Department of Architecture
It only takes a few steps and knocking on a door. As a kid, I believed that this is
Graduate Program Internal application
what it takes to achieve a dream. I believed that I could do whatever I want, it is
Brookings, SD - 57007
only a matter of time. It all started with Adobe. In the summer of 2011, I went to Adobe expressing my sincere interest in design. They believed in me and invested in my talents. I used my knowledge with their programs to engage with the community, identify the problems, and find solutions through artwork. The satisfaction I gained from this exceptional experience made me eager and passionate about sharing my work, so I decided to take it to the next level and be an Adobe educator. I got an offer from Adobe to become Adobe Scholar and pursue my undergraduate degree. I joined South Dakota State University as mechanical engineering for a short period of time to realize that architecture is my real passion and I have to follow my path. In the summer of 2019, I worked on a research project lead by DoArch's department head, Brian Rex, to investigate the historical layers of Brookings, South Dakota, starting from the layout created by the railroad company in 1874 to the existing condition of the city. I used Revit as a modeling program of the city, ReCap to organize the Point Clouds from the 3D scans, and ArcGIS as the main tool to investigate the conditions of the Urban grid. The research project created a window for me to communicate with Tesla about my interests in urban design and using technology like 3D scanning to create virtual design construction. They offered me a position on the architecture team as an intern for the Fall semester of 2019. I got to use the knowledge I gained as an undergraduate student at DoArch to design the new Gigafactory 4 in Berlin. Tesla and Adobe gave me the opportunity to learn from them and prove myself, and and I believe that DoArch will find my passion, talent and track record of projects a perfect fit for the masters program. Thank you for your time and consideration.
