News Flash is two years old! That’s two years and eight issues since we first created our very own publication.

To celebrate this anniversary, we’ve made the decision to change it up a bit, and we’ve retooled our beloved magazine to make it more handbag friendly, without losing all the amazing information and products you’ve come to enjoy.

There is no better time to take the leap than in spring. There is no better time to make changes, and refresh your life than spring, and really there is no other season like it. As the birds start to rise earlier, and the days become longer and brighter, we look with optimism on the next few months of glorious South African days, holidays and celebrations to come.

With winter now well stowed away, we invite you to peruse our pages and discover new and exciting things including everything from make-up and clothes to food and décor We would also like to invite you to follow Waterfall Mall on Instagram @waterfall_mall, like our posts and you could WIN a R500 Waterfall Mall shopping voucher.

With that we would like to extend our thanks as always for your loyal support and hope to see you in and around the mall in the coming months. Marlene Bouwer Centre Manager

BOOK CLUB THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING By: Bill Clinton and James Patterson The President Is Missing confronts a threat so huge that it jeopardizes not just Pennsylvania Avenue and Wall Street, but all of America.

Uncertainty and fear grip the nation. There are whispers of cyber-terror and espionage and a traitor in the Cabinet. Even the President himself becomes a suspect, and then he disappears from public view . . .

Set over the course of three days, The President Is Missing sheds a stunning light upon the inner workings and vulnerabilities of our nation. Filled with information that only a former Commander-in-Chief could know, this is the most authentic, terrifying novel to come along in many years. And a timely, historic story that will be read–and talked about–for years to come.

AN ELEPHANT IN MY KITCHEN By: Francoise Malby-Anthony and Katja Willemsen In this heart-warming and moving book, Françoise describes how she fought to protect the herd and to make her dream of building a wildlife rescue centre a reality.

She found herself caring for a lost baby elephant who turned up at her house, and offering refuge to traumatised orphaned rhinos, and a hippo called Charlie who was scared of water. As she learned to trust herself, she discovered she’d had Frankie wrong all along . . . Filled with extraordinary animals and the humans who dedicate their lives to saving them, An Elephant in My Kitchen is a captivating and gripping read.

Both of these titles are available at Bargain Books. Please note, product availability may vary by store.

SKIN CARE FIRST Days are getting longer already, and the mercury is rapidly climbing. This trend encourages us to spend more time outside and poolside too. Just keep in mind that a tan is actually your skin’s way of protecting itself against the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Over time, the UVA and UVB radiation in sunshine can weaken the lower layer of skin, which in turn may cause wrinkles, brown spots, and in some cases the development of skin cancer. Get a head-start on the summer season, and arm yourself with skin products with UV protection, or invest in a good daily sunscreen that forms part of your beauty regimen. Our favourite products right now: Lipidol Sunscreen Oil SPF 20, exclusive to Clicks; Sorbet BB Cream with SPF 15, Clicks, Ponds BB Cream with SPF 30; Uriage Lip Care, Nivea Sun Sunscreen Anti-Age; Piz Buin Allergy Face Cream SPF50; Vichy Capital Soleil; Garnier Ambre Solaire Protection Spray. All products available at Clicks and Dischem unless otherwise specified.

HYDRATION

After the dry winter, our skin needs some soothing. With the inclement hot weather approaching, everyone needs to remember to hydrate and moisturise every single day.

To do this you need to drink at least 2l of water every day, and make sure to use hydrating products on your skin, hair and lips so as to ensure that you always look and feel your glowing best. Gentlemen: Also remember that keeping your skin hydrated and smooth after shaving is just as important as drinking your 8 glasses a day.

Our favourite products right now: Sorbet Hydrating Body Mist Spray, Clicks; Labello Lip Care Products (Various); Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner, Clicks; Cettua Hydrating Facial Mask, Dischem; Nivea Creme; Lipidol Aftershave Oil, Clicks; Sanex Pro Hydrate Shower Gel,; Dermo Pro Hydrate Antiperspirant Roll-On For Women; Johnson’s Hydration Essentials Facial Cleanser. Physical Planks are a simple bodyweight exercise that challenges you to hold your body as stiff as a board for as long as you can all with the aim of strengthening your core muscles, arms, shoulders and glutes.

How to: Get in a push-up position, but bend your elbows and rest your weight on your forearms. Your body should form a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles.

Brace your core by contracting your abs. Press your body up into the top position of a push-up by extending your arms one at a time. Stay in this position as long as you can, up to 1 minute.

If you feel you aren’t strong enough to do your plank with straight arms, drop to your elbow with your forearms flat against the floor.

But what are the benefits of planks?

Super Spring Capsule Wardrobe When you open your closet doors every morning do you feel peaceful or overwhelmed? If you’ve ever thought, “I have nothing to wear” before you decide on an outfit, your mornings may be more stressful than they need to be.

1. More time. Think about how much time you spend trying things on in the morning as you decide what to wear. A capsule is designed so that all items match, and work together, so you’ll get all that time back for what really matters to you.

Creating capsule wardrobes (a small collection of items to wear seasonally) can help you move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling light, but there are other surprising benefits to look forward to.

2. Less Decision Fatigue. If your brain is tired by mid-afternoon, you probably suffer from decision fatigue. Streamlining decisions like what to wear gives you more mental bandwidth for more meaningful

choices that you are faced with throughout the day. 3. More money. What did you spend on clothing or other fashion related items last year? How many of those purchases were items you really needed? How many were driven by emotions, marketing, or boredom? By creating a small capsule collection from the clothes you already have, you can expect to save 75% or more of what you typically spend.

4. Less Guilt. Every morning you are faced with the guilt of poor purchase decisions, clothes that don’t fit you, items with price tags still hanging, and overspending. When you let the excess go, the guilt goes with it. 5. More compliments. As you dress with less, you’ll figure out what you really like wearing, and what best suits you. It’s not that your clothes will look better on you, but you will look better in your clothes and more comfortable in your own skin.

The soluble fiber found in fruit helps slow digestion and may help control blood sugar and lower cholesterol. Smoothies are undoubtedly a great way to start the day and use all the leftover fruit in your house before it goes bad. So start experimenting with different combinations and flavours this spring, and start your day with a bit of pep in your step.
