Moderno como as ondas, antigo como o mar1 [Chico Cavalcante Porto]2

Maíra Ortins tem na arte uma trajetória multifacetada, rica e profunda em cada campo ou pesquisa em que decidiu atuar, trabalhando como gestora cultural e artista. Expôs em vários países e em importantes instituições. Realizou pesquisas diversas, com destaque para suas produções em xilogravura, desenho, intervenções em fotografia e a fotoperformance para narrativas e ficções sobre o mar, lugares míticos e sonhos, essas com fortes influências da literatura de Manuel Bandeira; e seus trabalhos políticos em pintura e vídeo. Duas obras (sem título, 2011) da série “Porque é no olhos que carregamos o mar” pertencem ao Acervo do Mac Dragão, nelas a artista trabalha com intervenções sobre cópias de fotografias antigas, fecundando sobre as superfícies novas possibilidades e mundos. Com cera de abelha e pigmentos azuis, em alusão a água, cria pequenos relevos e manchas na fotografia. Abaixo das pálpebras inferiores, por onde produzimos água salgada ao chorar, os olhos das figuras ganham profundidade com ondulações de cor azul. A artista também escreve e faz marcações com pena e nanquim, além de adicionar objetos, como pequenas conchas e um pingente em uma das obras. Durante o processo de criação destas figuras abissais, míticas e misteriosas, Maíra descongela o tempo estático da fotografia adicionando camadas de uma nova memória, essa composta por ficções e sonhos inspirados pela literatura e por sua forte ligação com o mar.

Maíra Ortins has in art a multifaceted, rich, and deep path in each field or research in which she decided to act, working as a cultural manager and artist. She exhibited in several countries and important institutions, carried out several pieces of research, with emphasis on her xylography productions; drawings, interventions in photography and photo performance for narratives and fictions about the sea, mythical places and dreams, these with strong influences from Manuel Bandeira’s literature; and her political works in painting and video. Two pieces of her work (untitled, 2011) from the series ‘Because it is in the eyes that we carry the sea’ belong to the Collection of Mac Dragão, in them the artist works with interventions on copies of old photographs, fertilizing new possibilities and worlds on surfaces. Using beeswax and blue pigments, alluding to water, she creates small contours and stains in the photograph. Below the lower eyelids, where we produce saltwater when crying, the eyes of the figures gain depth with ripples of blue color. The artist also writes and makes markings with quill and ink, in addition to adding objects, such as small shells and a pendant in one of the works. During her process of creating these abysmal, mythical and mysterious figures, Maíra thaws the static time of photography by adding layers of a new memory, one composed of fictions and dreams inspired by literature and by her powerful connection with the sea.
