Mairo, Autumn 2011 Ever since 1994 Mairo has been launching exciting and inspiring collections marked by both tradition and innovative thinking. Many designs have become classic and popular, and are still found in many homes both in Sweden and abroad. Craftsmanship from our own Textile Printing Plant Mairo’s textiles are printed at Mairo’s own textile print works situtated in Sölvesborg, Blekinge. Here the importance of genuine traditional craft is maintained using meticulous and caring methods. Dyes are mixed and weighed by hand before being manually poured into our printing machines. Everything is carried out manually from film exposure to adjusting the templates onto printing mats. When the cloth is gathered together, each metre is checked before it is rolled up. Natural Materials Only We mix our dyes ourselves which is why we get the exact colour and nuance you expect. Our dyes are water based and environmentally friendly. We are always on the look-out for new, more environmentally friendly solutions. We always print on natural materials such as linen, linen mixes and cotton. Welcome, Anna! Throughout the years we have been enjoying long-term and exciting collaboration with many Swedish designers. This year we are pleased to present yet another inspiring partner as we launch a brand new collection by Anna Backlund. Our autumn 2011 collection presents many of Anna’s designs which are characterised by Mairo’s key words: diversity & inspiration. Anna takes much of her inspiration from nature thus creating an endless number of combinations and different colour variations through the stories she relates in her designs. New Products from Lisa Bengtsson We are also launching a new personal design by Lisa Bengtsson, who has been very successful with Mairo on many occasions in the past. Tillsammans

”Hugo is like his mother, Sixten like his brother. Almost alike, but somehow just a little bit different from each other. Same nose, same toes, however, the hair is a little bit different. Yes, we are quite alike, perhaps we should talk? Our roots, like a trail, stretch far, far away from the ground upon which we walk. Together you and I. Then, for ever, here and now”. Now available - a new individual pattern for everyone, adults and children alike, by Lisa Bengtsson. Tillsammans is the name of the pattern, which highlights the various quirky traits, our roots and how we are all the same yet still different. At first sight you experience the medallion pattern, but looking closer you see twelve amusing individuals pictured as dachshunds. Having finished her education at Berghs School of Communication, Lisa started up Studio Lisa Bengtsson and soon became a well known name within the world of design. Solo exhibitions, many awards and prizes have now become part of Lisa’s every day life. She was, for example, elected ‘Shooting Star of the Year’ by Elle Interiors and therefore the most popular newcomer to Design Sweden. Lisa gets most of her inspiration from her family tree. This time though the inspiration is not from the older generations, however, but from her twins Jack and Elliot. In collaboration with Mairo, Lisa Bengtsson has used the pattern ‘Tillsammans’ to produce some lovely material and beautiful cushions in different sizes and shapes. They will be available in two colours: Blue and Gold.

Kung Bore
Design Anna Backlund
Kung Bore sends a northerly wind across the city. Kung Bore was one of Anna’s first patterns and her own special favourite. The pattern was created during a sad period in Anna’s life when she lived in an extremely quiet town, while she herself was longing to lead a life full of magic and togetherness. The pattern is constructed along the classical lines of ”toile de jouy” but up close you find that the story is contemporary. The pattern Kung Bore has been printed on material of 50% linen and 50% cotton and is available in the colours black and blue. Kung Bore is sold by the metre, in panels, as runners, cushions, trays and notebooks. Anna Backlund is a designer educated from School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg as a textile artist. Anna mainly works as a designer of patterns and is attracted by the challenge of solving intricate pattern repeat conundrums and to get colour and rhythms to harmonize. She gets inspiration from both nature and urban life and her patterns often tell of a longing for large cities and open spaces. Anna creates patterns where you always can find something new and inspire you to use your own imagination. ”In my work, I aspire to decorate and embellish the world. I wish to fill the empty spaces of a person’s life with stories and beauty. I want to enrich. I wish for us to reach our inner beings and feel happy so doing.”

Myrten & Fager Design Anna Backlund
Anna spent her childhood summers in Kรถpstadsรถ in the southern archipelago of Gothenburg. Here she spent her time climbing the caprifolium covered hills and gathering seaweed on the beaches. It is the memories of those days that were the inspiration for Fager and Myrten. The patterns are manually sketched by pencil and then built into a classical medallion shape. The patterns Myrten and Fager have been printed on a mix of 50% linen and 50% cotton and are available in the colours red and black. Myrten is sold by the metre, as cushions and table cloths. Fager is sold by the metre, in panels, runners, tea towels, napkins and cushions.

Gryningen, V채nnerna & Tville Design Anna Backlund
Anna usually work creating obvious stories and do not start her work until she knows the story the result will tell. However, she created these childhood patterns with sensitivity and intuition and without knowing what they were about or what they meant. Anna then had the help from a primary one class who made up stories for the three patterns. The patterns Gryningen and V채nnerna have been printed on 100% cotton and on cotton canvas. Gryningen is available in nature and is sold by the metre, as oilcloth, floor cushions, cushions, aprons, bibs, fleece material, bed covers, panels, toilet bags, notebooks and pennants. V채nnerna is available in rust and is sold by the metre, as oilcloth, floor cushions, cushions, aprons, bibs, fleece material, bed covers, panels, sponge bags, notebooks and pennants. Tville is available in the colours nature and rust and is printed on 100% cotton, and on 50% linen/50% cotton material and a cotton-canvas. The pattern is sold by the metre, as runners, panels, cushions and trays.

A SWEDISH TRADITION Our own print works in Blekinge, not only print new patterns every season, but we also reprint variations of previous successful patterns. This way you can use your Mairo material for longer and complement and add when it is necessary. As we design and produce all our own products the lead time from idea to the finished product is very short. This makes it possible to make bespoke products for the customer even with relatively small quantities, for example a different print colour, another cushion shape etc. This way we are able to meet customers’ needs for unique solutions. Mairo material emanates from a traditional and genuine type of craft and we print all our material in our own print works in SÜlvesborg in Blekinge, Sweden. The dyes are mixed and weighed before being poured into the 18 m long printing machine manually. Everything is carried out manually from film exposure to adjusting the templates onto the printing mats. All using perfect precision. When the cloth is gathered together, each metre is checked before it is rolled up. As we mix our dyes ourselves, we get the exact colour and nuance we expect. The dyes are water based and environmentally friendly right from the basic paste to the end colour. The dyes are long lived, which means we can use a mix several times. But we are always on the look-out for new and more environmentally friendly solutions. We always print on natural materials such as linen, linen mixes and cotton.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS Soak before washing. Curtains should be dry-cleaned. Wash separately at 40o. Do not use detergents or rinsing agents containing optical brighteners. Liquid soap is recommended. Iron on reverse side. WAXCOATED FABRIC: 40o, do not tumble dry, do not centrifugation. COTTON: 40o, do not tumble dry. LINEN/COTTON: 40o, do not tumble dry. LINEN: 40o, do not tumble dry, stretch after washing. COTTON CANVAS: Dry-cleaned.
Because of variations in fibres, yarns and dyes, we cannot guarantee the exact colour in different product series. Expected shrinkage after washing or dry-cleaning from 3 to 4%.
Handwash is recommend for trays, pan costers, beverage coasters, cutting boards made of moulded Finnish birch wood. Carpet of 100% hand tufted wool: Vacuum your carpet regularly. Treat the stains immediately after they occur. To be washed by authorised carpet-cleaning service.
