ON THE GROUND

The word humble traces back to the Latin for “on the ground”. We want our design to be humble, modest, but still comfortable for the people who will be spending their time at this community space.

Architecture is sometimes seen as invasive, specially in a historical neighborhood like midtown Atlanta. The building’s design returns the architecture to the people of Atlanta. There are many famous, and luxurious buildings around the site, challenging the project to blend into the area while still standing out and being a comfortable space for the people who will be using it. The design creates a healthy living space while still committing to the needs of the underserved communities of Atlanta.

This mid rise, mixed use complex is meant to be responsible, modest, respectful, unpretentious and grounded. This is a project meant to create change and innovation. This is architecture that can provide cultural impact and does not ignore the needs of the diverse and growing population that inhabits the city of Atlanta. We worked with the slope of the site to make sure that we take advantage of such a pronounced elevation change, our building is not only grounded in concept but also, physically grounded. A large area on the ground was left unbuilt, gathering and connecting spaces were created, instead of built spaces. A green terrace returns nature to the site and creates a connection between the community space to the living space. The use of timber for the majority of the structure makes this building ecologically responsible.
