Kelly Clarkson TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Sony Music

For all of you who do not know of Kelly Clarkson, we can simply present her by stating that she became America’s, if not the whole world’s, sweetheart when she won the first season of American Idol seven years ago. Before the victory, Kelly had just moved from Texas to Los Angeles with a friend. The same day, their apartment burned down and Kelly decided to work as a waitress at three different cafés. At the same time, American TV decided to buy the British version of Idol. Kelly’s friend heard about the show and begged Kelly to apply to the competition. Which she did. Since then, her life has been filled with music and gigs. Kelly has topped several lists worldwide with her victory song, ”A Moment Like This”. Now, the 27-year old Kelly is in the news again with the newly released album ”All I Ever Wanted”. The days are hectic right now and she travels from contintent to continent on tours and PR trips. We spoke with Kelly to learn about her thoughts on makeup, beauty and success. How did you go from being Kelly “the girl next door” to a top celebrity? Tell us your amazing story.

I love to sing and I sang any and everywhere I could growing up. Then, I ended up trying out for American idol. The show was a great start for me. Why did you name your new album “All I Ever Wanted”?

All I have ever wanted is to make music that I love that has a message, whether that would be a fun or intense message. I love music. It is my passion. All I have ever wanted was the perfect title, because I simply want to make music and I’m lucky enough to get to do it.

What has been the biggest difference in your life now from before. How do you remain so steady, with both feet on the ground?

The biggest change in my life is that I travel a lot and I can actually pay my bills. I don’t see my family and friends as often as I used to but I bring them out on the road with me every once in a while and they keep me grounded and remind me where my roots are.

“I love Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep. They are classy and beautiful women who don’t over do anything. They are breathtaking” Tell us about your interest in fashion, beauty and trends?

I’m actually not that interested in trends, but I do like fashion in the sense that I think clothes are an expression of our individual personalities and so that’s fun to play with. I don’t really care what’s ‘in’ or ‘out’ of style ....I wear what i want. What is true beauty to you?

True beauty is being comfortable in your own skin, confidence and being truly happy. Have your interest in beauty changed at all from becoming a star?

I’m the same girl I’ve been since I was 10. I’m a little girly but a tom boy at heart. M  |  3

What makeup do you wear on a typical day?

I only wear makeup when I’m working. On normal days, I just wear mascara so I don’t look dead. And then some days, I look dead and I just don’t care. How do you get yourself ready for a performance and how do you choose a specific look for the event?

When I get ready for a show, I make sure what I’m wearing is comfortable and I let my girl, Ashley, do my hair and makeup and then I’m ready. I’m not too complicated when it comes to that stuff. Could you share some of your personal tips and hints on beauty and makeup?

I’m a huge fan of the ‘natural’ look. I adore Make Up Stores nailpolish Jazmine, blush Passion and lipgloss Orma. I can’t stand when girls wear tons of makeup. It looks like they’re wearing a mask. That’s just weird to me and it just looks like a whole lot of freakin’ work just to look like a clown. Have you got any role models or ideals when it comes to beauty? Tell us who and why?

I love Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep. They are classy and beautiful women who don’t over do anything. They are breathtaking. What are your plans for the future?

I have no clue really what my plans are for the future. I’m very random in all aspects of my life. I could be singing on tour and making albums, or I could be a mom, or I could go to college. I don’t really know but I know it will be what I want it to be. What will you be doing in 30 years time?

If I make it 30 more years, I hope I’m married to some hot, rugged man that smells like old spice and vanilla tobacco and we never leave the bedroom and laugh all the time.

Frosty winds sweep across Siberia’s frosty steppe. Troops of 500 men in their golden uniforms surround the marvelous horse carriage, pulled forward by black stallions. Inside, the Czarinna sits safely. She is heading to the capital, Moscow. In her lap rests a golden case containing a beautifully ornamented egg that was given to her by an admirer. The Czarinna is well known for her beauty, discipline and elegance. Her skin is like the most beautiful porcelain, ethereal and lustrous. Her secretive eyes are softly shaded with colors of nougat, gold and lavender. The lips are painted in a classic shade of wine red. The mouth is sealed and brooding on countless secrets. Her makeup is pure perfection, an outer shell as delicate and perfect as the ornamented egg in her lap. The autumn look, Czarinna, is inspired by the splendor and exclusive designs of the days of the tsars. The colors are drawn from the playful domes of the Kremlin and the incredible color spectra of the precious stones on the luxurious Fabergé eggs. The products for this look are like the details on the Fabergé eggs – you always find endless and unique combinations.

Use Eyepencil Czar as a primer on the eye so that dry eyeshadows are intensified and last longer. To create the perfect mouth that looks natural, several products are required. First fill the lip contours with the Lippencil Sandstorm. Then use the Synthetic Brush #211 to shade the color from the Lippencil towards the center of the mouth. Afterwards, use the same brush and apply the Lipstick. Gently press the lips on a piece of paper. Finish with a layer of Lipgloss on the mouth, using the same brush. Even though the lip makeup is pale, the warm apricot pink tone makes you look healthy and the gloss allows your lips to shine. The color palette of the Czarinna makeup is consistently used throughout this makeup to create a very harmonious and soft look.

Use Sport Foundation, Wonder Powder and Wonder Blush for a maximized lustre in your base. For an extra effect, sweep some Microshadow Champagne with the help of a powder brush on the entire face. To make your eyes look larger and more alert, apply Eyepencil Vanilla inside the edge of the eyelid. The pencil is milky white and neutralizes the red inside the lash line. Use Angle Brush #110 and the product Stay in Shape to make your brows look bushy. M  |  6

For a soft and nice shading of the eyes, first apply the darkest products closest to the lash lines around the eyes. Afterwards, gradually shift to lighter colors layer by layer. Apply a fine eyeliner as close as possible to the lash line and let it set before you attach synthetic lashes. Let the adhesive dry for about 30 seconds so that the lashes are properly fixated. If you have to improve the eyeliner once the synthetic lashes are in place, use Cake Eyeliner and very little water so that the lash adhesive does not dissolve. The color of the lips in this photo is almost completely transparent, so that they do not steal the attention from the eye makeup. M  |  7

The base in the Czarinna makeup is thin and delicate like porcelain. This effect can be achieved by applying Reflex Cover as a primer around the eyes. The product reduces dark rings and provides lustre to the skin. Afterwards, apply Sport Foundation, which is a thin and fine formula. The base is fixated with Wonder Powder, which also nourishes and provides lustre to the skin. The eyes are softly shaded with eyeshadows in tones of brown, gold and silver. For a really soft eye makeup, use Blending Brush #108 and Globe Blending Brush Large #116. Eyepencil Invitation, a grayish black and water-resistant product for a long-lasting effect, can be applied on the inner rim of the eye. The brows are filled in with Tri Brow with the help of Angle Brush #110 for an accentuated but natural result. Then, shape the brows with the Mascara Brush #100 and Stay in Shape. Wonder Blush is applied on the cheeks for that frostbitten glow and mother-of-pearl shimmer. The lips are meticulously painted with Lippencil, Lipgloss and Lipstick.

Baby Doll is the look of the winter. Color the eyes in different shades of pink. She enhances her long, black, flirty lashes with a layer of mascara and brushes her soft big curls to frame her face. Her full lips are painted in a delightful shade of peach and strass stones in the corners of her eyes glimmer with the sparkle in her eyes. Use the large powder duster to sweep a nice-scenting shimmer across the dĂŠcolletage. The inspiration is drawn from newly washed linen that smell like lilies, powder dusters and sugar sweets such as lollipops and meringue. Baby Doll is aware of her charm. In the forefront, you find the pinup dolls and the rococo ladies with their excess. Instead of fans, gloves er. Pale pink, orange, apricot and beige are the main colors for the lips.

The eyes are shaded in different tones of pink and the upper and lower lash lines are reinforced with Cake Eyeliner Black. The product can be mixed with water. Combine with Mixing Liquid to create a waterproof eyeliner. False eyelashes are attached to create larger and flirtier eyes. Remember to apply the mascara from the lash roots when you are sporting false eyelashes so that your natural lashes discreetly blend with the synthetic lashes. Never apply mascara along the length of the lashes or you will end up with synthetic lashes clumped together with your natural lashes. On the inner corner of the eye, apply Eyepencil Vanilla to remove the redness inside the lash line, making the eyes look fresher and larger. The apples of the cheeks are accentuated with a round-shaped rouge in a shade of pink for a healthy look. Lips are colored with Lippencil and Lipstick in tones that harmonize with the other colors of the makeup. Sticking to the tones of a set color scheme will help you create a delightful and natural makeup.

M  |  11

For those of you who want to spice up your makeup and give it that extra something to set you apart, strazz stones are the optimal product. By attaching them around the eye and right above the crease line, they sparkle in the light and look like small crystals. Before application, the base and eye makeup must be finished. For a delightful and natural crease line, use the brush #117 that is adapted for shading and shaped to create a nice crease. Three shades were used in this eye makeup. The shade, White, was used as a base color. Babydoll was applied above the entire crease line. The eyeshadow, Tie, was tastefully blended with the other colors for a beautiful shimmer to bring some depth to the look. For an accentuated but soft-looking eyebrow, apply Tri Brow and continue with Brow Set Fix Clear. Finish by gently sweeping Sparkling Powder across the cheekbones and décolletage with a large powder brush. Tip: For a durable attachment, apply a thin layer of the lash glue Adhesive Clear on the backside of the strass stone and gently apply it on the desired spot with a tweezer.

The base in Baby Doll is lustrous in the highlight areas of the face. Otherwise, it is generally matte and covering. Cover All Mix magically camouflages dark rings and blemishes. Afterwards, apply Matt Foundation and fixate it with Dual Foundation. Add the Microshadow Champagne with a Powderbrush to provide lustre to the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose. The brows are accentuated with Tri Brow and the Angled Brush #110. Then, Brow Set Fix Clear is applied to reshape and fixate the brows.

Mika Liias TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Nakharin Phophan

Make Up Store’s founder, owner and MD, Mika Liias, talks about the success story, Make Up Store. Despite the current crisis in the world economy, the trademark continues to grow; both nationally and internationally. It all started in a small basement facility in the heart of the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The year was 1996. Mika Liias had previously established a school that trained aspiring makeup artists. He noticed that the demand from his students for quality makeup at reasonable prices was great. This discovery became the starting point for the well-renowned cosmetic label, Make Up Store. 170 concept stores are currently found around the world. Regardless of where you are in the world, you can visit a store with the same assortment, the same staff outfits and the same campaigns. Why you feel at home in one of our stores in Dubai as well as in Östersund is simple. The stores are franchised. The word, franchise, comes from the Latin, Franco, that literally means privilege. Franchise in modern times is a business model where a company owner can use a trademark, a product or a concept by paying a fee to the owner of the trademark. By paying the fee, the company owner can sell products and services within the frame of the well-tried business concept of the given trademark. Franchising started during the 1960’s in Texas, USA, where the trademarks, McDonald’s and Seven Eleven, were founded. What does it mean to be a franchisee at Make Up Store?

”Franchising, more or less, involves the purchase of a license to run your business within the frame of an established concept. When Make Up Store grants the right to use its company name to other business owners,

it is a long-term collaboration between two equal parties,” Mika explains. ”As a franchisee of Make Up Store, you are given the right to use the company name. This allows you to create a viable business as the company owner.” Mika continues by explaining the advantages of working as a franchisee at Make Up Store. ”With regards to ownership, the franchisee is independent from the franchiser – no percentage of the profit is payed to Make Up Store. The profit you make as a franchisee is yours and will remain so. But the chances and risks that are associated with running the franchise business do not disappear, just like running your own ”regular” business. The risks are generally smaller in a franchise company

”As a franchisee at Make Up Store, you can use all of our experience and continuously receive advice, support and help when running your own business” because you start your own business in an already-dependable business concept that is also well-tried. Since the 1960’s, the frequency of franchising has increased considerably. In the media, one can read about new concepts and newly established enterprises on a daily basis. In Sweden alone, there are over 15000 company owners who M  |  15

run their business through franchising.” ”As a franchisee at Make Up Store, you can use all of our experience and continuously receive advice, support and help when running your own business. Are you a ambitious person who loves makeup and dreams of running your own business, but you refrain from realizing that dream because you lack a good idea and worry that the risk is too high? If so, you should contact us,” says Mika. ”We arrange internal training programs for those of you who are not yet a makeup artist. This stage is followed by a Kick Offer and continuous training programs so that you can provide the best possible service and knowledge within makeup to your customers. We are also very competent in finding and arranging facilities for your business.” ”As a franchisee at Make Up Store, you should feel comfortable with your business. Hence, we work very hard with our internal communication so that we always remain available to our franchisees,” Mika continues. ”For instance, we have an internal blog where everyone can share their experiences of the industry with each other. In this blog, we also share different international and national prizes that we have received through various nominations. It can pertain to anything from service, customer relations to assessments of our products. The blog is a ‘pat on the back’ to everyone that you are unable to meet personally. Make Up Store is a big family and it is the most important factor that makes us unique, strong and successful,” Mika finishes.

Makeup should accentuate the positive features of an individual. With the help of different types of colors and products, you can create a character for every occasion. Finding inspiration in editorials and colorful fashion shows is always fun. The aim is not to copy these looks exactly but to emulate and create your own look, with yourself as a reference. These pictures show powerful women with smoky eyes, accentuated lips and sharp eyebrows – three elements that can produce a nearly threatening gaze in your eyes as well as make them look sensual and beautiful.

Studio Foundation Ultra Wonder Blush Luxor Mircoshadow Kakaw, Pollution, Vanilla Tri Brow Stay In Shape Lipstick Fairy

Create a good and long-lasting base for shading by priming with Eyeprimer Clear and following with Studio Foundation. The base shade, Microshadow Champagne, is applied on the entire eyelid, up towards to the eyebrow. A sooty reinforcement of the lashes is achieved with the help of Microshadow Deadly. The shades Velvet and Silver are added to the crease line for a metallic and dramatic shading. Eyepencil Dusty Smoke is applied close to the lower lashes and Cake Eyeliner Black is applied on the upper lashes, for a black, intensive lash line that is thick and full. The base on the rest of the face is delicate and comprised of Liquid Foundation Milk that is fixated with a thin layer of Micronized Loose Powder in the shade of Cream. M  |  17

In this look, intensive eyes where created with lots of lashes on the upper and lower lines. You can either opt for single lashes or entire lash lines, depending on how dramatic you want the effect to be. Shading with a dark eyeshadow along the lower lash line enhances the effect, while a light pencil along the same lash line brightens up and brings out the color of your eyes.

First sweep a thin layer of the loose Powder Gobi across the entire body to enhance the contours and muscles. Then, spray the entire body from an arm’s length with Body Velvet to make your body look wet and warm. Add a gray eyeshadow around the eyes for a slightly rough and masculine look. For this purpose, Microshadow Masai is a perfect choice.

For a nearly feline look, use the tip of the brush #106 to create a sharp line towards the temples. Soften the color with brush #117 to remove too sharp contours. M  |  19

To enhance the features of the face, shading is the right technique. By using a rouge or sun powder, accentuate the natural shades of the face; for instance, those of the cheekbones, the hairline and the lower part of the cheekbones for a more enhanced character. Avoid shades that are too dark or the face will look unnatural with an unharmonious tone.

For the ultimate base that lasts for several hours and for this type of evening look. A good starting point is to properly re-moisturize the skin with Ice Creme Time, a product that is quickly absorbed by the skin without leaving a mess. Afterwards, Quick Fix is used to fill out irregularities and make your skin silky smooth. Then, Matt Foundation is used to create a nice matte base. A thin layer of Glitter Loose Powder Shiny Gold is added to bring lustre to the skin. Before application, remove excess shimmer from the brush, because you are aiming for a hint of lustre. Excess product can be removed by tapping the handle of the brush against your hand before application.

For a dramatic and intense look, use Eyeprimer Clear as a base and Gel Eyeliner Black. Then fixate the Gel Eyeliner with Microshadow Pollution for a really intense and deep black color on the eyelid. For striking, accentuated but not too dark eyebrows, fill them with the eyeshadow Ghetto.

Isabel Watson TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Corrine Skau

Isabel Watson was born in Miami but currently lives in Norway, where she works as a famous and distinguished fashion photographer. Here, she talks about her profession and her thoughts on beauty. Tell us about yourself and your background as a photographer.

As a fashion editor, I found that it was hard to find photographers who liked any challenge; who did not push their own style on every shoot; who saw things somewhat objectively. Men tend to like images that involve daring feats or technical ability. Women do not even notice those things usually. But many female photographers had problems with the technical aspects. You have to get what you want. I am technical, but see things as a woman, so I felt I would have a niche. Something to say and the ability to express it. Describe the thought process before a photo shoot.

Basically, I want to know what the client wants, what their customers preferences are, and then I sew it all together. I am conceptual, but never ever at the expense of esthetics. What are your sources of inspiration?

I have hundreds of magazines and books. I also like to watch old movies for psychological techniques. I read books on business, culture and psychology to better understand how people tick and what motivates them. I want to know how to motivate my crew, my subject and the consumer. Music is big with me. It totally shapes my mood. How do you create a sense of cohesion in your work?

I think since I used to be an editor, I always think about how the whole shoot will look when delivered. I actually visualize it in print, in a layout or store display, while I shoot. If I am doing a magazine cover, I will picture the image on the cover on the magazine stand as I shoot. Do I see it, or does it drown amongst everything else? I do not ever really see an image as a separate thing.

Could you give examples where something in an assigment was successful or less succesful? What should one consider during an assignment?

I have learned that you have to have good hair and makeup, and good lighting. I tell people if things do not look good. That is better than hating the shoot afterwards because the subject looks bad. What is important with regards to makeup during a photo shoot?

I often find that it is the texture of the foundation that is most important. Indeed, it is more important than everything that comes on top. You need a foundation that is luminous in lighting, and that evens out skin texture with micro-reflective particles. Contouring is important, specially with celebrities. Eyeshadows need to be extremely fine grained to look good in images.

“Contouring is important, specially with celebrities” Are you a team that decides on makeup and hair before a shoot? Do tell us the guidelines for both men and women.

I go through the whole look before the shoot. Makeup, hair and styling helps the model or actor get into character, so it has to be right. I usually show a couple of images that I like to the makeup artist so they understand what ‘character’ I want, or colors that complement the photography style.

sun would hit it, so it looks natural and sexy to put it there. Which model or celebrity would you really like to work with and why?

I would love to work with Sophia Coppola. She seems so interesting. I would like to see what’s behind her eyes. I would also love to photograph Charlotte Rampling at a lake just outside of Oslo. She has that French sexiness in her eyes. She is a seductress without trying. To look like her is a talent. Christian Bale is very handsome and intriguing. Your dream shoot?

I love almost all shoots, as long as the client is not on the set. They tend to stress everyone out. I love shooting in Paris in the spring. The light is beautiful for models and clothing. When you have a good model, i.e. someone who lets themselves go in front of the camera, and clothes that make an intellectual statement either visually or socially, and most importantly good light, is when you feel the flow. Would you like to say a few words to the readers of M Magazine?

I am a big self-help fan. I do not care if people make fun of it – usually unsuccessful people, incidentally. I have a few favorites: Do what you love; You are what you think; You become what you believe, not what you wish; You teach others how to treat you; Stupid is always doing the same wrong thing

Do you have any personal beauty tips that you could share?

“I would love to work with Sophia Coppola. She seems so interesting“

I like to mix a luminous moisturizer with a foundation for a beautiful and natural finish. I love the natural look of cream blushers. And when you use bronzer, apply it where the sun hits your face. The best way to know is to put in on while standing under a strong light that is almost directly above you but a little bit in front. Where the light hits the skin is where the

and expecting a different result. But the best thing I ever did was read the book ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’. I loved the chapter on increasing your circle of influence. When I have kids, they will have to read that book every year or I will not buy them the latest electronic gadgets. End of story.

Yana Rudkovskaya TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY: Yana Rudovskayas archive

Yana Rudkovskaya is one of Russia’s foremost and most beloved celebrities. Yana is a woman who stands out in any situation related to fashion and beauty. In addition to being a trained makeup artist, she also works as an actress and tv show hostess. She was recently declared the most beautiful tv show hostess in Russia by Fashion TV. If that was not enough, she also works as a producer for the Eurovision Song Contest winner, Dima Bilan. Yana’s free-time is not as easily defined, with the time she spends with her husband, the Olympic champion in figure skating, Jevgenij Pljushchenko, and her two sons. Describe yourself and your career.

“I am a stubborn person with a richly developed intuition. A lady with a strong character who is sweeping everything in her way”, says Yana about herself. She is successful in several different branches. She is the owner of fashion boutiques and beauty salons. She had her own programs on TV. Yana is even an actress and a writer. But she considers herself the most successful as Dima Bilan’s producer. They started working together in 2005. As a result, Dima Bilan is the only artist in the world who has won the 1st and the 2nd places in the Eurovision Song Contest. In a short period of time – 3 years to be exact – the 2nd place was taken in Athens, 2006, while the 1st place was taken in Belgrade, 2008. Dima Bilan was also awarded 4 times as the best Russian artist at European Music Awards. Nowadays, Dima Bilan is a mega-star and the number one artist in Russia. Thanks to her education, Yana Rudkovskaya is a trained Doctor-cosmetologist. She graduated from Altai State Medical University and has worked in the beauty business for 11 years. Today, she owns 5 beauty salons in Russia. Can you tell us about your interest in makeup. Did it start in your childhood? Who inspired you? Who was your beauty ideal? Who taught you how to apply makeup?

Frankly speaking, I do not like makeup too much. I started with the color cosmetics when I was at the age of 18. I had a very good skin complexion, so I tried to keep it ”virgin” as long as possible. But, I always used moisturizers, tonics and cleansers. Cleanser was the first

product I purchased as a young girl. I am also very fond of different kinds of masks. All these procedures helped me keep my skin in a very good condition. When I started using makeup, they included such famous brands as Chanel and Dior. I like to apply light spray foundation which helps to keep a fresh complexion. Rouge, eyeshadows, mascara and light lip gloss – those are the products from my cosmetics bag. From my early childhood, I was inspired by Brigitte Bardot. Then in the 80s, Madonna came. I was delighted with her. Every character she performed was unique. In every look, she was beautiful. I remember her bright red lipstick. She was so pretty in it that I tried to copy her image and painted

“From my early childhood, I was inspired by Brigitte Bardot. Then in the 80s, Madonna came. I was delighted with her” my lips red. It was an unusual color for me. I had never tried it on myself before, but I wanted to look like my ideal beauty! So one can say that it was Madonna who taught me to apply makeup. Do you see any differences between beauty today and beauty before?

Yes, of course. Very much! There are a lot of new kinds of skin care products. A lot of new types of color makeup. Just take mascara as an example. There are different kinds: lengthening, volume, with silicone and so on. What a big step in cosmetics industry! It is not difficult for a modern woman to use makeup without a makeup artist’s help. There are a lot of products at our disposal. For example, one can make eyelashes much longer - thanks to those great varieties of mascaras. Do you wish to make the lips plump? – No problem! Just use the appropriate lip gloss. Do you follow the new trends in makeup? Where do you get the information from? Do you try new trendy colors and looks on yourself?

Yes, of course, I follow the trends and always try to be en vogue. The information I get from M  |  43

different magazines. They send me samples of new upcoming products and it makes it possible for me to try the latest on the market. But I don’t experiment with colors as I prefer day makeup with pastel and nearly transparent colors. Moreover, my fiancé does not like me using too bright, striking makeup. Nevertheless, I like to discover new cosmetic brands, new products. I like to buy everything that is advanced, modern and trendy. I feel that a woman looks as good as the work she puts into taking care of her appearance. Can you describe a nice makeup?

It was created by makeup artist Iliya Drykin for the magazine ”Top Beauty”. The cover sold like butter! It was such a beautiful makeup! The colors were so natural that one could easily think there was no makeup at all. Everything was done so professionally that it was just stunning. Can you describe a great night makeup?

It was created by Dmitry Orlov, a well-known makeup artist who works with famous artists, singers and public people from Russia. We were in Denmark at European Music Awards. I got a fantastic makeup with red lips. I looked like Scarlett O’Hara from the movie ”Gone with the Wind”. What cosmetic product can’t you live without?

Studio Foundation, Glosslips Zoom, Blush Sand. What is your personal beauty tricks?

I use to have a lot of flowers at home. Most of them are roses. I never throw rose leaves away. I soak them in mineral water, pour in cubics and put in the freezer. Every morning I rub the face with the rose ice cubics. It helps keep the skin fresh and in tone. What is the difference between daily makeup to the makeup you wear for your TV show?

When I come to the studio there are always makeup artists there. They help me correct any mistakes in my makeup. But if I arrive without any cosmetics, they do my makeup from scratch. Generally speaking, the difference between my day makeup and the TV one is very small, because my stylists know that I am a person who likes to look natural. What are you doing in 10 years?

Nothing will have changed. Everything will look like today. I will be as successful and lucky as I am today.

Tiger of Sweden TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Sheena Neville

Tiger of Sweden, or Tiger as it is commonly called, is one of Sweden’s largest clothing labels. In addition to dressing the Swedish people, the company also designs stage outfits for big artists such as the band The Hives.

Erika: We are a design team of six people. We create the framework for the collections and set the ‘feel’ of the lines. To find inspiration, we go on common inspiration trips with the entire design team or by ourselves.

combining it with something more playful and a bit twisted, extravagant. That’s where we added a Russian look. The feeling of being at the tangent of excess is very exciting and has added some dynamics to the collection.

It all started in 1903 when the privately owned mother company was founded. The company launched the label Tiger in 1925 and from here it truly kicked off. In the 1980s and 1990s, during the big Yuppie Era when the cell phone entered the market, Tiger was selling more suits than ever to well-dressed customers. Thereafter, they started producing more fashion-related collections aiming at a younger and trendier target group. The Tiger Woman and Tiger Jeans collections were launched. Several concept stores opened and the brand also ventured globally with stores in, for instance, London.

Maria and I were in Paris on an inspiration trip and found ourselves in a fantastic little bookstore where we bought lots of books. We bought, amongst other things, an amazing biography by Coco Chanel.

Think onion-shaped domes, the Russian Matruschka dolls but also the luxurious Fabergé egg.

Year 2003, the brand celebrated its 100year anniversary with pomp and glory. At the same time, Tiger received the best gift possible when they won the prestigious Guldknappen. Guldknappen is a contest arranged by the Swedish ELLE magazine with a jury consisting of the most powerful trend authorities of Northern Europe. In every number, M Magazine puts the spotlight on famous Swedish designers. After a taste of Tiger’s autumn collection, the choice was obvious. Erika Ekelund and Maria Östblom, designers of the women’s collection at Tiger, talk about the autumn as well as the concepts behind the label, collections and the creativity. Erika has worked at Tiger for seven years and received training at the distinguished textile school in Borås, Sweden. She mainly designs knitwear and jersey for women. Erika represented Sweden during the year as Europe’s Capital of Culture, Art Genda 1998. Maria Östblom started working at Tiger in the summer of 2007 and is responsible for the woven wear for women. Maria has a background in Beckman’s School of Design, where she was awarded for designing the best collection by Hennes & Mauritz and was personally handpicked by Margareta Van den Bosch to work at Hennes & Mauritz. She was the Responsible Head Designer for different lines within Hennes & Mauritz, such as Trend Division and Divided. Can you describe the thought process behind the autumn collection? How did you select colors, shapes and material?

We also brought lots of other sources of inspiration with us back home. Everything from interior design, music, architecture, movies, wonderful secondhand stores to books. And already at that point, our inspiration for the fall collection was set. We completely absorbed the atmosphere of Paris. In Paris, there is an amazing appreciation for the value of the craftmanship behind the clothes. There lies a sensual and feminine ambiance over the entire city. And we wanted to pick that up. We want to celebrate the woman, with the femininity and elegance of the female body in focus. So in the autumn collection, we peeled the volume off the garments and focused on the shape.

“Laidback luxury, a French love affair that meets the Russian culture” With a simpler silhuette, the fabric and the details are much more in focus. We work a lot with luxurious material with an abundance of character. Velvet, tweed, jaucqard, silk and mohair. To get the right sensation, we mixed these fabrics with odd brown leather belts, golddetailed buttons and zippers plated in 18 carat gold. We are also working with Swarowski and have even created a dress and blouse/jacket covered with stones... Maria: One can summarize our autumn collection with the sentence:

What makes Tiger a Swedish brand, in terms of the work approach?

Erika: We stand for the Scandinavian minimalistic style but with a twist and personal expression when it comes to the fit, high quality and design of course. Fashion then and now – what are the differences and similarities?

Maria: In the last few years, the tempo has spearheaded considerably. And there are more trends available nowadays. No longer do we look for a single trend but rather a number of parallel trends. A larger selection of expression. The most important thing is not to follow anything specific but to find your own voice in all of those brands. What sets us apart is much more interesting than our similarities. For us, the most important thing is to maintain the uniqueness of the brand. It is important for us to create a collection that is built on and preserves Tiger, the brand. Describe Tiger’s makeup trends. The previous spring and summer collections incorporated strong influences from Brigitte Bardot in terms of hair and makeup...

Erika: The fall will see influences from the French and a bit of Russian in the makeup. Accentuated eyes, red-colored lips and rouge on the cheeks. More of everything which feels like a completely new look! Then and now - differences and similarities in the combination of clothes, makeup and hair?

Erika: The same can be said here as in trends. There is no single trend but a a wider selection of different expressions. There is a larger foundation upon which you can build your personal and unique style. The last question: what is beauty to you?

Laidback luxury, a French love affair that meets the Russian culture.

Maria: Charisma, a person who is completely satisfied with herself.

The French that is feminine, elegant and luxurious, with the inspiring icon, Coco Chanel, in the forefront. At the same time,

Erika: A personal style on the outside that matches the inside and someone who is playful and social.

Åsa Jungnelius TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Jonas Lindström

Åsa Jungnelius has just returned from work in London and Milan. Åsa is an artisan and designer at the distinguished glassworks, Kosta Boda. In 2007, she moved with her children and husband to the forests in Southern Sweden and “Livet vid brukets hyttor”. Back to the place where she attended a school for craftsmanship after her secondary education to become a glass blower fourteen years ago. Åsa creates artistic pieces and utility goods, but the expression and story are the key ingredients in her creative process. Function is only secondary. She has received several accolades and is a strong and modern artist that can be reckoned on an international level. In 2009, she won ELLE Decoration International Design Award, the Designer of the Year. In 2008, she was also awarded the Grand Art Prize by the royal descendant, Sigvard Bernadotte, and his wife, Marianne. Over the phone, I now have the opportunity to ask her about her creative process and thoughts behind the series, ”Make Up”, where Åsa has made artistic magnifications of nailpolish and lipstick completely in glass. Why did you create the makeup line?

“Generally, I work a lot with stereotypes and stress the importance of these stereotypes. Here, makeup plays a large role. Lipstick and nailpolish are important tools that you can use to create and paint your own identity.” Åsa has a very positive view on makeup and self-coloring, as she calls it.

What do you want to convey?

“Makeup is an important status symbol that must come forth in the light. The act of purchasing makeup, however, has a lower status. I want to present makeup as a positively charged symbol with my art. I work a lot with how you create your own individual identity through consumption and who you choose to be. The surface of an individual is the content of that individual – therefore, makeup is not a trivial thing.”

“But for more festive occassions, I like to experiment with clothes and makeup. Preferably with red lips” But why red lipstick and nailpolish in terms of choice of color and shape?

fascinating to walk around in these stores with their fantastic, fat-free and perfect facades that are supposed to make consumption desirable. I also visited Make Up Store and liked the interior – how the makeup is presented as a tool and as a color palette. It feels easily accessible. Makeup is an important attribute and I would like my art to portray my makeup experiences with a glossy and glittery feeling. Make Up is an art in itself and now you have taken it to another level. Could you elaborate on that?

I wanted to show the positive side of makeup. The actual perception of beauty is subjective. It lies in the eyes of the beholder. Remove all of the pointers and guidelines on the definition of beauty. It is an evolving process. But the makeup in my art is the core of the individual exterior and an important attribute that can be a status symbol in the same way as a very nice car.”

“For me it’s all about finding the essence in things. Lipstick and nailpolish feel like the most recognizable items. As a representation for makeup. Lipstick for me is also a type of weapon. Just think about how a woman with red lips carries herself and how she is treated in various situations. Choosing different colors in makeup is highly individualistic and depends on who you want to be.”

How do you use makeup?

Where have you found your inspiration?

The fact that we will see more of Åsa is selfevident. She also reveals that the Makeup family can expect additions in the form of new objects about identity creation.

“I love makeup so I reviewed different types of makeup in everyday life. I visited and examined several cosmetic stores. It is M  |  63

”In my everyday life, I work a lot in the glassworks. So my look is composed of jeans, smoky eyes with Microshadow Pollution and the light lipstick Baby so that I don’t look lifeless”, Åsa answers and laughs. “But for more festive occassions, I like to experiment with clothes and makeup. Preferably with red lips (China Red).”

– how to apply party makeup – Makeup Artist: Olle Johansson Photographer: Jennie Porkka

In this school we teach you different examples on how to easily apply party makeup. We mainly focus on eye makeup but also on the principles of how to use foundation and concealer. The make up tips are adjusted due to your personal features such as shape of eyes, skin tone and eye color. For a more individual makeup consultation attend to any of our make up courses in store. See more information about the courses on page 145.

1. Start with the darker

color on the outer part of the eyelid and work onto the eyelid toward the nose and the eyebrow. Apply the color with Blending Brush #108 in circular movements.

4. Use Eyepencil Vanilla

to block away some of the eyebrows instead of erasing them. This technique will make them less apparent.

5.

Apply an eyeliner, starting near the nose on your eye and moving toward the ear. Make the line broader closer to the ear to get an eyelift effect. Also make a thin line underneath the eye use Eyeliner Brush #102. Finish the look with mascara.

2.

Repeat the same procedure under the eye. Start at the outer corner of the eye and blend toward the nose. Makeup underneath the eye creates a more open eye.

3.

Use the highlight shadow on the eyelid near the nose and also under the brow bone, this will make your eye larger and vivid. Smudge the colors.

4.

Shading should be performed under your cheekbone and blush should be applied on top of the cheekbone. Make sure your blush is applied softly to avoid the appearance of any edges. Help the nose bridge as seen on the picture.

1.

Apply Skin Serum to even out the skin. Use Night Time as a moisturizer over the whole face. Apply the concealer, Cover All Mix. The yellow part for blemishes, and the red part under the eyes and to cover the veins around the nose wings.

5.

Two equal colors. Green (Microshadow Zone) and lilac (Microshadow Flamenco) are used and mixed together with the color Microshadow Champagne as a highlighter on the brow bone. Apply your eyeshadows with Blending Brush #108.

2. Use a sponge to even

out your skin tone with a proper foundation. In this makeup, Matt Foundation Olive was used. Matt Foundation does not need to be fixated with a lot of powder since it’s oilfree with medium coverage.

3. Highlight these parts

as shown in the picture with Microshadow Champagne and T-zone Brush. It makes your face look 3-dimensional instead of flat.

1. The skin is evened out

with the proper foundation, Matt Foundation Toast, and the concealer, Cover All Mix. Fixate with a small amount of Dual Foundation London. Dampen a makeup sponge with Face Mist and press the sponge onto your face to mix the powder and foundation together.

4.

Use Eyeliner Brush #102 to apply the eyeliner in a shape that you prefer. The eyeliner should also cover the false eyelashes. Finish off with Sensitive Mascara Black.

2

. Fill in your eyebrows to a pleasant shape. Use Tri Brow and a damp Angled Brush #110. Start on top of the eyebrow and work toward the ear. If you start in the beginning of the eyebrow, there is a risk that you might look angry. Make sure that you fill in this part less heavily. Fixate with Brow Set Fix Clear.

5. Highlight your upper lip

contour with Microshadow Champagne and apply some Glosslips Pink.

3.

Use Microshadow Champagne on the eyelid and on the brow bone. Use single eyelashes to make your eye look larger. Use Adhesive Black, the black eyelash glue, to attach the lashes from the outer corner of the eye. Cut the lashes into the right length before application so that they will blend nicely with your natural lashes.

4.

Use Microshadow Ghetto on the crease of the eye. Apply the Miroshadow from the outer part of the eye toward the nose, and from the nose a bit downward to the tip of the nose.

1.

Even out the skin tone with the oilfree Matt Foundation. It is always important to select the right tone of foundation so that the skin will not look grey or orange.

2.

Use Microshadow Ghetto as shading to create a 3-dimensional face. Apply the product on the sides of your nose and underneath the cheekbones. Use Microshadow Lemon as a highlighter on the nose and on top of the cheekbone. Use Blush Lush on the apples of your cheeks. Apply the makeup products with Rouge Brush #340.

5. Use Microshadow Deep

Blue Sea with a damp Eyeliner Brush #102 to create this intense blue line. Repeat the same procedure with Cybershadow Silver underneath the eye. Finish off with the mascara, Max Lashes.

3.

Apply Microshadow Flamenco and Cybershadow Silver on the eyelid. Start with Cybershadow Silver in the inner corner of the eye and blend outward to the darker eyeshadow Flamenco. Use the golden Microshadow Champagne as a highlighter on the brow bone. Apply the makeup products with Blending Brush #108.

Then, color your lips and lip contours with the beige color from the Cover All Mix palette. Add Dual Foundation with a damp sponge to the entire face, lips and eyelids to create an even and covering base. Accentuate the lashes with the black eyeshadow Pollution and finish with black mascara. Use Eyepencil Vanilla inside the lash lines so that the yellow pigments neutralize the red. The lips are filled in with Eyepencil Black and Lipstick Dawn. Thanks to the base, the lip makeup lasts much longer.

Here we have a makeup that just screams cartoon! The shading is focused on the movable part of the eyelid and the inner corner of the eyes. The synthetic lashes are called Drama and were clumped together with some transparent lash adhesive. The synthetic lashes, Peak Under, were attached to the lower lash line. The rouge is shaped like a hollow yellow stripe using Eyedust Sunset and a stencil. Remember to prime the cheeks with Eyeprimer Clear before you apply the eyeshadow with a makeup sponge. For the shifting effect seen in the red lip makeup, Eyepencil Dark Chocolate was used to fill the lip contours. Then, the brown pencil color was softened towards the opening of the mouth. The lipstick was added afterwards and the makeup was completed with Glosslips Virgin.

– profile artist sweden –

Emilia TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Michael Silkeberg

Hanna Emilia Rydberg, stage name Emilia, was born on the 5th of January 1978 in Stockholm. She is a Swedish pop artist and song writer. Emilia went to Adolf Fredrik’s School of Music in Stockholm and during High School she was the lead singer in a acid jazz band. The producer Lasse Andersson discovered her and together they wrote all the songs for her first album. She had a massive hit in 1998 with the ballad ‘Big Big World’. Emilia participated in the Swedish Song Contest first part competition in 2009 with the song ‘You’re my world’ written by Figge Boström and herself. She describes the song as a “tribute to the people we love and the warmth they give us”. The song went as one of two contributions straight to the final at the Globe in Stockholm on the 14th of March this year. Tell us how your career has looked in the past. How did it all start and what does it look like today?

My career kick-started in 1998 with my debut album, ”Big, Big World”. It is true that I already had a recording contract for two years. But it was with the release of the first single that I could enjoy the life of a pop star. After the debut album, I launched two more albums. My latest album, from 2007, is called ”Small words of love”. Singing in Swedish has been extremely liberating. I would never have applied for the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest this year if it had not been for that album. A little fun-fact is that the single, ”Var Minut”, from the album has actually outdone ”Big, Big World” in terms of music control (the number of radio plays). Currently, I am running my own record label – Mitiku Music – and I have never been in a more exciting phase of my ”rollercoaster” career. My new full-length album will be released this year and it is called ”My World”. Life begins at thirty, right? What is the greatest difference between the life of ”the girl next door” and that of a celebrity?

Well, it might be that I get to sign autographs in the grocery store… The fact is that I do not see myself as a celebrity. Don’t misunderstand me – I love what I do and I feel humble and extremely privileged to be able to support myself on what I love doing the most. The actual fame is only a ”corny” bonus. I am also highly aware that these two factors are symbiotically associated with each other. If no one wants to hear or see me, I have no job!

How do you remain so down-to-earth?

A bit of a cynical answer... but you are no greater than your last success. As an artist, you can never take anything for granted but you must try to continuously evolve. Through the years, however, I have taught myself to enjoy my successes (such as my position in the finals at the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest), so that I can find the energy and passion in what I do and also keep my creativity alive. Tell us about your interest in fashion and trends?

It has always been more or less a passive interest – although a strong one. I am no fashion-monger who will dress myself in the latest, but I have the ability to recognize myself in trends. In other words: some things suit me, others do not. I also have the need to feel pretty so I often head to the stores, check people out in town or read various magazines. Since I turned thirty, I have occassionally suffered from a dilemma or more of a luxury problem - how can I wear a pop outfit without looking like a teenager? What is beauty to you?

It is probably wisdom. And self-awareness. Has your interest in beauty changed since you became famous?

Not really. I was vain already before I became ”famous”. Maybe the difference is that I now have to entertain the narcissist in me. If you work with your own ”self” everyday, you easily grow tired of yourself… Possibly, pamper myself with slightly more expensive products nowadays. How do apply makeup on a regular day?

I cover the dark regions underneath my eyes and the boring areas around the nostrils. Afterwards, I moisturize the lips and add some rouge on my cheeks. The most important part of my everyday makeup is the mascara. I like a lot of lashes! I am a 90’s child, so the more, the better. How do you apply your makeup for performances and why?

Oh, I like to go all the way. Stage lighting swallows so much of the makeup that you can never wear too much makeup on stage. I also see it as a way to separate my private self from the public ”Emilia”. Plus, trying different types of colors and shapes is a lot of fun. A similarity between my everyday and stage makeup is M  |  91

that I like to concentrate on the eyes. The eyes are always in the focus for me. Can you share you personal beauty and makeup tips?

Never keep the same mascara for too long. Have a good cleanser that suits your skintype. Omega-3 pills make me feel better and it shows in my face. Ever since I was in Beijing a few years ago and received a foot treatment (they train for seven years to become specialists), I have understood the importance of foot care. The feet are our foundation and everything can be traced back to them. That is why I regularly go and pamper my feet with treatments.

“Never keep the same mascara for too long” What are your favorite products?

All types of body lotions! There is nothing better than lubricating the entire body after a nice shower. I use Luminous Bronzer for a moisturized glow. Do you have a role model regarding looks? If so, who is it and why?

My little sister, Amanda, is my role model. She works hard as a Legal Expert in Brussels with everything that it entails. Although her industry is conservative and dominated by men, she has found her way. She is intelligent, very empathetic and super luscious. What are your plans for the future?

I will complete my new album, ”My World”, prepare for this summer’s festival gig (Rickard Engfors was given carte blanche) and invite all of my friends to my last party in my little apartment in Southern Stockholm – I love my little gem. I am moving this fall, you see. What will you be doing in thirty years?

It might sound strange or taken out of its context, but I would love to work as a Cultural Attaché in Berlin. They say that if you repeat it enough times, it will eventually come true… How do you think you will dress and wear your makeup by then?

Hm... like Marie-Louise Ekman (Head of The Dramatic Theatre in Sweden) perhaps.

– profile makeup artist poland –

Kinga Czerwieniec-Szewczyk TEXT BY: Grzegorz Gwiazdowski PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Bartek Wardziak

Kinga Czerwienie-Szewczyk is a brilliant, young makeup artist residing in Warsaw, Poland. She works with Polish celebrities like Patrycja Markowska, Edyta Górniak as well as fashion designers like Maciej Zie. Her work can be seen in music videos, movies, print advertisements, television commercials and on billboards across the country. Kinga’s eye for color is amazing and she uses that talent to capture the perfect look for you. When you started your career in makeup, who were the makeup artists that you admired with regards to their work?

I actually started working professionally at the age of 19 as a fully fledged makeup artist. People asked if I had makeup experience. I said, “Yes”. I used to tie down my two girlfriends and practice on them. They had no choice! I also wanted to learn from the best artists within the industry. I sought them out, I got on the assistants list at agencies and I was always willing to work for free in exchange for a chance to watch and be silent, listen and learn. I also set standards for my craft. Looking at artists like Pat McGrath, Kevyn Aucoin, Charlottle Tilbury, Mathu Anderson and Joan Gair for inspiration. I admire their work, the knowledge and creativity that each artist has brought to the industry. I use their work as a reference to measure the level of quality that I bring forth and want to achieve. Give M Magazine readers your best beauty tips.

Too many! Oh my gosh! Wow! Where do I start? Always keep powder in your purse and a few pointy tips for quick touch ups! Powder is so important – you never want to look greasy! Dewy is one thing but never greasy. Never apply heavy or too much moisturizer in the daytime before application of your foundation. It will stay on much longer and wear better if you have a light hand with moisturizers!! Always brush your brows before you pencil them in so you won’t tug out any hairs and keep the brow pencil sharpened too so it won’t also pull out the hairs. Use a brow pencil a shade lighter than your hair. That

way, brows never look too “done”. Face Mist spray on your face after powder/foundation makes you look more dewy. It helps give that JLo glow effect with out the grease and oils. It will also make the powder look just go away. Less is more and you are out the door! Most people feel they have to pay attention to every square inch of their face. Often you should play up a feature you feel is your best. Don’t be afraid to take chances! Most people are afraid to change their makeup because they feel their face is how others perceive them. I think people

“I see a lot of women that don’t even bother with themselves. All it takes is five extra minutes to look polished and pulled together” are nervous to go that extra step whether it is changing a color or texture. What’s the biggest beauty mistake women make?

I see a lot of women that don’t even bother with themselves. All it takes is five extra minutes to look polished and pulled together. It makes your entire day so much better when you feel a little prettier. It’s so important for women to take time of themselves. They also do not blend their makeup down the jawline into the neck. Usually they stop and leave a line of demarcation where the foundation just stops. You have to blend it downward. Use a sponge – it works better. Then fingers or foundation brushes. And they do not match their skin tone either. Go outside with a tiny dab and make sure you match your overall color. Take a nice average of your color from your body, neck and hands. Faces are always lighter so you usually need to go a shade or two darker than your face. M  |  97

If we peeked inside your Make Up Store kit, what would we find? What do you think about those products?

I just love their products! When I first came into the store, I was overwhelmed by the selection! You can pick makeup for lips, eyes and face as well as products such as primers, skincare, brushes, nails and fragrances. Make Up Store’s cosmetics are easy to use and fun to experiment with to create different looks. Collections are fun and funky, giving you everything that you need for that special look. I also love the fact that you do not have to be a specialist to buy beauty products. You can go to the Make Up Store where the staff can explain the difference between products, how they have to be applied and how to clean your face or moisturize your body using Home SPA beauty products. We’re going to open a shop in the second half of this year and I can’t wait! My favorite Make Up Store product would have to be Face Mist. It’s great to spray on after you’re done with your makeup. It fixates the makeup and its gives the face a healthy looking glow. I am really obsessed with tools. I love tweezers, scissors and individual lash curlers. You would see every shade of foundation you could ever hope to see. Like I said, I like to be prepared; I can’t be caught off guard. When it comes to eyeshadows, I can never have enough: colors, variety and textures. I like to have some compact powder and loose powder. Variety is important when you are trying different looks. For example, if you want to go with a really dramatic smoky eye, a dry eyeshadow works best. I could not live without eye creams – I am an addict! I love them and my favourite is Ice Eye Cream. What do your clients think of you?

You have to ask them. But seriously… Most of them would like to put me in their pockets or have me sit on their bathroom counter to get them ready every morning! Kinga works as a makeup artist for Patrycja Markowska, a famous Polish singer and songwriter, daughter to Gregory Markowski (Perfet band vocalist). Patrycja’s career started with “Dancing with the stars” and, since then, she has recorded three albums; “Do not stop”, “No-one”, “World is mistaken.”

“A World of Colors” is Make Up Store’s signum. For us, it is just as much a statement as it is a trademark. We have products that suit everyone, regardless of age, sex or skin color. In this photo shoot, we want to show you that Make Up Store is a world of colors but also explain how united forces makes you strong. Inspiration was drawn from Michelangelo’s fresco paintings and icons of Mother Teresa. Together, we can find our way from darkness to light, through sorrow and happiness and from hate to love. Together, in a world of colors, we can succeed.

You will need more makeup during a photo shoot than in everyday life. This is because the flashes and the harsh lighting erase the makeup. The same situation is also seen in stage and film makeup. The covering base, Studio Foundation, was used to create a well-executed and nice-looking makeup. To reinforce certain facial features, two different bases were applied. A very light foundation in the highlight areas of the face, and a really dark foundation in the shading areas of the face. The use of two different bases allows the natural shades and features of the face to appear despite the use of strong flashlights. M  |  99

“Frescoes or fresco paintings come from the Italian, fresco, meaning ”fresh”. Frescoes are a form of wall painting, where pulverized color pigments mixed with water are directly applied on moist, newly-laid lime plaster. This technique is also called al fresco, which is the true form of fresco technique, in contrast to al secco, which refers to wall paintings created on dry plaster. The latter technique is not as durable as the fresco, because the color pigments do not penetrate the dry lime plaster as readily. Fresco paintings appeared across Italy from the late Middle Ages to the 17th Century. Michelangelo is known for two large frescos: The Last Judgement (1534–1541), which covers the altar wall in the Sistine Chapel; and the fresco in the Medici Chapel, the monument of Giuliano and Lorenzo de Medici with the symbolic figures, Night and Day, Dusk and Dawn”. ”An icon, from the Greek, eikon, meaning ”picture”, is a holy depiction within the Orthodox church, usually an image painted on wood. However, other media, such as mosaic, textiles and sculptures can also be found. Madonna with baby Jesus is often illustrated. The depiction is not only regarded as a pure illustration but also constitutes a part of the religious message and is seen as a physical manifestation of what it represents. In the Orthodox churches, the icons are placed on the iconostasis. In the homes, family icons are often found in a special corner of the room, a ”window to the sky” or the ”beautiful corner”, together with a burning oil lamp”. (Source: Wikipedia)

Magic Minerals Make Up Store was the first label on the Swedish market with its mineral powders, Wonder Powder and Wonder Blush. The products are composed of natural minerals only that nurture your skin and provide light sun protection. Combined with a powder and a rouge, you can create a beautiful and natural skin filled with lustre. Whenever needed, complete with a concealer to hide blemishes or dark rings under the eyes.

Application: After your daily skin care routine with cleansing, balancing and remoisturization, allow your skin to absorb your moisturizing lotion. Afterwards, apply your mineral powder. Unscrew the lid and remove half of the sticker label so that a couple of perforated holes remain sealed. That way, you avoid unnecessary spillage or wasting the product. Gently tap some powder onto the black lid. Then dip a large powder brush, preferably Logo M-Brush, in the powder. Apply the powder on your face in small circular motions. Start the application from the nose and extend to the hair line, temples and chin. Dip the brush once again to fill it with powder, until you cover your face and are satisfied with the result.

– gallery – Rouge is applied in the same way. Knock some powder onto the lid and dip a smaller rouge brush #304 into the lid and apply it on the cheekbones and the apple of the cheeks. Remember to clean your tools for a durable and hygienic makeup. Wash the brushes with Brush Cleanser after every use. Complete the process by washing the brushes with shampoo once a week. Always let the brushes dry in a horisontal position so that liquid does not enter the handle and disintegrate the glue.

The word “caviar” comes from the Persian, “khag”, meaning “bearing sturgeon” (referring to the sturgeon in the Caspian Sea). In Russian, the word “ikra” is used instead and simply means roe. Caspian caviar is composed of roe derived from certain types of sturgeon and is categorized as a luxury commodity. Today, caviar is produced in vast amounts in Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. With its production of approximately 90 tons of caviar every year, Iran is currently the largest producer of the commodity. As a close runner up, Russia produces about 60 tons per year, most of which is exported to the US and Great Britain. The most expensive caviars are Beluga (Huso huso), Ossetra (Russian sturgeon) and Sevruga (Acipenser stellatus).

Russian caviar is a large export product. It is expensive and considered a delicacy. The caviar is categorized according to egg size and sturgeon type. The most exclusive variety is known as Beluga (with a retail price of approximately 15 000 USD/kg). Beluga is followed by Ossetra, Imperial and Sevruga. Even Azeric caviar is incorrectly labeled as Russian caviar. Apart from Russia and Azerbaijan. sturgeon fishing also takes place in Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to get a hold of the desired caviar. To protect the sturgeon, which has lowered in numbers in the past two decades by 90% and is increasingly threatened by extinction, centrally issued licenses are now granted to serious fishers. Despite this measure, illegal fishing is still a common occurence today. Since 2003, the right to sell caviar has not been granted in Russia nor Sweden, which basically means that there is a ban on the sale of the product in Sweden. (Source: Wikipedia) M | 113

The History of Perfume Perfume is a substance that is used to create pleasant scents. Its history stretches far back in time. In fact, 2000 years before Christ, the famous perfume maker, Taputti, was mentioned in cuneiform tablets from Mesopotamia. In ancient Egypt, people were meticulous about smelling nice. Perfumes were manufactured as incense or oils and had both therapeutic and religious purposes. The word perfume originates from the Latin per fumu, meaning through smoke. During this time, incense was very common in East Asia. The scents were produced through cold pressure procedures and coriander, bergamot and different types of flowers were commonly used as raw ingredients. Perfume was simply crushed herbs and oils in those days. Later on, the Persian chemist and Doctor Avicenna, carried out experiments that gave rise to rose water and aromatic oils through distillation; a method that is still employed today. In the Middle Ages, the use of perfume spread to Europe. Perfumes were important during baths in palaces and monasteries. Dried raw material in textile bags were also stitched to the clothes or used as necklaces. In 1370, Hungarian water was produced for the first time. The Hungarian Queen Elisabeth, had

In a perfume, perfume oils are diluted in solvents such as ethanol and water. The intensity and durability of the perfume increases with rising concentration of perfume oils. Perfume extracts are composed of 2040% perfume oils. Eau de Perfume (EdP) contains 10-30% perfume oils. Eau de Toilette (EdT) contains 5-20% perfume oils. Eau de Cologne (EdC) contains 2-5% perfume oils.

ordered an authentic perfume composed of aromatic oils, alcoholic solution and different types of scent additives. During the Renaissance, perfume production really took off. The technique was developed by Catherine de Medici’s personal perfume maker. When she became the Queen of France, she brought the recipe for perfume and other refinements with her from Italy, such as high-heeled shoes and forks. Still today, the recipe for perfumes remain a secret. Eventually, Grasse turned into a large perfume industry. The Queen, who would perfume her gloves, also gave rise to another market: perfumed leather. France became the center of perfume and cosmetics in Europe. During the Renaissance, perfumes were only used by the wealthy and royalties to discreetly hide the sanitary incongruities of the time. Around the 1700s, everything was perfumed by everyone who could afford the luxury. Eau de Cologne also made its debute. Perfumed powder was produced with musk, vanilla and ambergris as popular scents for the body, face and wigs. Since the 1850s, perfume production developed rapidly. The knowledge of aromas expanded, techniques were specalized and the manufacture of synthetic aromas entered the arena. A modern perfume usually contains 30-50 scent substances but can include up to 100 scent substances. During the 19th century, perfume manufacturing was still exclusive for pure perfume houses; one of them being Guerlain. Around the 1900s, fashion houses also started developing their own perfumes. Paul Poiret developed the scent, Nuit de Chine, for women who could not afford his clothing collections but still wanted to enjoy the experience of the clothes. One of the world’s most famous perfumes was launched in May of 1921 and named Chanel No. 5. Coco Chanel selected the name because her favorite scent was the fifth concoction of M  |  118

A perfume is characterized with the help of a scent chart consisting of top notes, middle notes and base notes. Tope notes, also known as head notes, are the scents that emerge immediately upon the application of the perfume. Common top notes include citrus, peach, roses and ginger. Middle notes, also known as heart notes, appear between 2 minutes and 2 hours after application, when the top notes disappear. Common top notes are lavender, orange flower, jasmine and black currants. Base notes are perceived right before the middle notes wear off. The base and middle notes form the main theme of the perfume. Common base notes are musk, sibet, patchouli, resin and moss. Source: Wikipedia

the series of scents produced for the fashion house. Marylin Monroe was nice enough to offer some free publicity by giving the following answer when asked what she wears to bed: ”Two drops of Chanel No. 5.” In 1980, jewelers like Tiffany, Bvlgari and Chopard set their eyes on perfume production. Bottle design was central in this new strategy. Since then, the perfume industry has continuously produced and developed synthetic scent substances. In 1990, however, the industry reached another milestone. The unisex perfume was launched, a scent for him and her. In 2006, Make Up Store released its first perfume, Celebration, which is also a unisex perfume. It was followed by Kristall, I Do, Whisper and Fruidelicious. Less is more (EDT 50 ml) I am proper and live by the motto less is more. I love the pureness and simplicity in things. A black dress and red lips are all I need, besides somebody special in my life who enjoys candlelight dinners.

Your valentine (EDT 50 ml) I am sensitive and feminine. I spend my days in the tub, reading books or taking long walks in the woods. Looking for someone who likes genuine conversations in front of the fire place and likes to take me out to dinner. I love chocolate and red roses. M  |  119

All through genuine (EDT 50 ml) I am confident and love anything that´s genuine. My purse, heels and pearls always keep me company. I am looking for some handsome company, perhaps in a suit. Someone who whisks me off to Paris for romantic weekends.

My three favorites are: Skin Serum – I can’t live without this product. It works as a primer for your makeup. As soon as I have applied it on my skin, I feel like a princess. Thanks to its finest ingredients, my skin becomes silky smooth and counteracts premature ageing. Wonder Powder, which is Make Up Store’s mineral powder. The powder covers irregularities of my skin and reduces my fine lines. I never had such nice and lustrous skin before I started using this product. This is “to die for”, almost. All the tools. Does they qualify as products? I must say that I am completely handicapped without my tools. Make Up Store’s tools beat all the other brands in this business. New tools are launched every month - and here I thought they couldn’t get any better. But for every new tool, I feel excited in each cell of my body.

Samira Ström TEXT BY: Greta Sjöbom PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Sofia Petrén

Europe’s leading makeup school – International MakeUp Center opened in the fall of 1990 in Stockholm to train professional makeup artists. Today, our school can be found in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Thailand. The aim of the curriculum is to give the students an education that makes them attractive in the entire business, in Sweden and abroad. Quality is the key. That is why our teachers are hand-picked professional makeup artists who still work in the trade, in addition to their teaching job. Thanks to our unique competence and contacts, IMC is always upto-date with trends and news. For a better insight into the enterprise and how it is to work as a teacher, we interviewed Samira Ström, Head Teacher at IMC’s school in Gothenburg. Tell us about yourself and how you started working at IMC.

My upper secondary education was a threeyear hairdresser programme. The final year, I could also receive training in nail care, massage, style/color/character and, last but not least, makeup. I already understood back then that I would be working with entire looks. I want to bring out all of the best features in a person. Young and inexperienced, I traveled abroad and worked as a hair stylist and makeup artist. I remained overseas for many years. The language barrier was the most difficult aspect of my years abroad, but that also worked out! When I eventually returned to Sweden, I felt the need to receive more training. There was only one school that caught my attention and that was IMC, of course. I had heard only good things about the curriculum so I decided to go for it! And I did. Tell us about your role as a teacher at the school. What courses do you teach and what philosophy guides you in your educational occupation?

When I received this question, I called some of my former students. That is the correct thing to do. They all said the same things; that I am determined in an extremely positive way. And I am continuously happy - people always notice that I love my work. The philosophy that helps me in my role as a teacher is to channel all of my knowledge to

every student, and hopefully some more. The idea is to ensure that everyone enters the job market immediately after the completion of the course. Some students dream of working in a cosmetic store, and then I teach them everything within that line of work. Others aim for the fashion shows in Milan and Paris, So I teach them everything about that part of the business. Nobody should leave the school with insecurities about their dream. That is my philosophy at IMC. Tell us about the school. How long has it existed? What kinds of courses do you offer?

The school has existed since 1990, and it offers the leading makeup artist education in Europe. Here in Gothenburg, the school is centrally located. This goes for all of our schools in the other cities and countries. I offer a ten-week course in beauty makeup. This comprizes everything in beauty and some more.

“Don’t be afraid to glitter and sparkle! For instance, blend High Tech Lighter with your Studio Foundation for a party look” What sort of people receive training as makeup artists? Is there a specific age group, sex? Special admission requirements?

Very common questions in the world of makeup involve the selection of rouge and base. What are your solutions to these questions?

Visit any of our stores worldwide and ask the instore professionals for help. They have a deep understanding of this art and can easily find the most appropriate products for the person. Plus, they can apply the products so that you don’t feel obliged to “buy the pig in a poke”! Could you suggest a simple and beautiful day makeup and reveal your personal techniques?

The face must be clean and moisturized before you apply the makeup. Lighten the region underneath the eyes and apply Wonder Powder. Afterwards, add rouge to the cheekbones according to the shape of the face. Also use the same rouge on the eyelids. Mascara on the upper lashes and fill the eyebrows with Tri Brow Color. Finally, select a fun and colorful lipgloss. Could you suggest a beautiful party makeup and share your tips and tricks?

Don’t be afraid to glitter and sparkle! For instance, blend High-tech Lighter with your Studio Foundation for a party look. The formulation will bring the sort of lustre to your face that you will never forget. To succeed with your look, you can also use fake lashes. A beautiful red mouth is always festive so go for it when you are getting ready for a party!!! And lets not forget Face Mist. It fixates the makeup so that it lasts the entire night. What must you consider if you have mature skin?

What should you think about if you want to succeed in the business?

Always opt for a skin care regime that is appropriate for your skin. The regime should provide a lot of moisture and vitamins. With regards to the makeup, I believe in “less is more”. Thin base, beautifully accentuated brows, some matte shades, mascara, rosy cheeks and a delightfully colorful and glossy mouth!

Be humble!!!

Finally, what is beauty to you?

Pros and cons in the makeup artist profession?

Beauty to me is about being comfortable with yourself!!!

People of all ages, sexes and personalities come to IMC Gothenburg. And that’s the beauty of being a teacher at IMC. No, there are no specific admission requirements.

The heavy items that you have to carry everywhere is a major disadvantage. Makeup can be surprisingly heavy! On the other hand, every day is unique. And everything comes down to beautiful colors and shapes. Who wouldn’t want to work with that? M  |  121

Mens’ makeup is all about looking your best by enhancing your natural features. Take extra care of your eyebrows and haircut, your hands and feet as well as your lips and teeth. Make Up Store has recently launched a new hair care range. Messy contains a unique combination of three types of styling polymers that help you create, twist and separate frivolous styles without making your hair feel oily. Gives depth, control and perfect texture for an unbeatable feeling.

Less is more. Too much makeup in the beginning is a common mistake that produces an unwanted and unnatural result. For a moisturizing and nurturing effect, apply some Aroma Balm on your lips. M  |  132

Choose the right color. People often choose the wrong color of foundation or concealer. These products are not meant to bring color to your face, but to cover and conceal an uneven skin surface. Choose a color that is similar to your own skin tone or slightly lighter. Sport Foundation has a light formula and practical package that suits men on the go. M  |  133

Conceal dark rings under your eyes with a concealer containing red pigments. Conceal spots with a concealer containing green pigments. Cover All Mix has all the pigments you need to make your skin look flawless. M  |  134

Pluck your eyebrows with Tweezer Slant to create a nice shape. Fixate your messy brows with Stay in Shape for a perfect result all day long. Apply Brow Set Fix on your eyelashes for defined lashes and intensive eyes. M  |  135

Most men have sensitive skin and, therefore, need really gentle products when cleansing their faces. Try Sensitive Foam Cleanser which leaves your skin clean and moisturized. After cleansing, always apply a face toner to restore the skin’s pH. Rinsing your face with water lowers the pH value of your skin. A restored pH balance optimizes the effect of your facial moisturizer. Finish with a facial moisturizer to keep your skin vital. Try Daytime for your face and The Eye Creme for your eye area. Haifa Wehbe TEXT BY: Vanz Lee PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Waseem Rahhal

In early 2000, a close friend encouraged her to have a go at singing. By that time, her amassed popularity encouraged her to take that leap forward and follow up on the advice. Fittingly, her first album, “Howa el Zaman”, was released in 2002. The album was an immediate success thanks in part to her debut single, “Agoul Ahwak”. Neither she nor her entourage expected such an immediate and virulent success. That year, Al Jamhouria named her the Best Arabic Young Female Singer and she was awarded the Golden Lion in Egypt. By 2005, Haifa had met even higher acclaim, winning the Oscar for best Video Clip for “Baddi Eich”, the Murex d’Or for Best Artist of the Year both in 2005 and 2006. “El Wawa”, her follow-up single, was voted song of the year in 2006 by Radio Scope and Sawt Al Musika. Hottest in every sense. In 2005, Haifa was voted as the Personality of the Year by Elaph website. Also, Reuters and Lounge Magazine elected her respectively as the Most Beautiful Girl and the Sexiest Woman in the Middle East. In 2006, Askmen.com website elected her as one of the most beautiful women in the world, ranking 49th out of a 100 selected, Haifa being the only Arabic female celebrity. That same year, International Beauty also awarded her the title of Most Beautiful Arabic Singer in the World. Dazzling beauty icon from Lebanon, Haifa Wehbe is a fashion model, actress and singer. She rose to fame as the runner up for Miss Lebanon back in 1995. Later, the release of her debut album, Huwa az-Zaman (It is Time), in 2002 shook the Arab world by storm and established her successful career in singing. She has been labeled ‘The Sexiest Girl in the Arab World and voted People Magazine’s 50 most beautiful people in 2006. Today, she is the most sought after artist and celebrity in the Middle East who never fails to turn heads with her exceptional makeup and sexy yet elegant clothes. For the Cannes Festival in 2004, she accompanied legendary actor Omar Sharif on the red carpet and was invited to Cannes again the following year and again in 2007. She partnered with international star Shaggy for a duet of ‘Sexy

Lady’ in Egypt which received rave reviews. Haifa then went on to become the first artist from the Arab world to perform as an opening act introducing international hiphop superstar 50 Cent at his first concert in Lebanon in 2006. That same summer, Haifa was chosen to be paired with football star Thierry Henri in the Pepsi Ads for the 2006 World Cup and is still a spokesperson for Pepsi. Currently, she is also busy designing her own line of jewellery, as well as being a representative of the BBC in an effort to encourage English as a second language in the Middle East. Haifa is also a strong advocate of humanitarian causes. She has openly campaigned for the awareness and struggle against breast cancer and she is an ambassador of the Red Ribbon association since March 2006. This interview is an intimate look at the personal side of Haifa which is seldomly seen by her fans.

“I won’t say I do not care about my looks. But I have never undergone any surgery” How do you describe who Haifa really is?

What is the difference between Haifa the artist and Haifa as a person?

As an artist, I am a prisoner of the press and cameras. Everything I do could be used against me. Even to intrude my personal life. As you mentioned personal life, what is new with Haifa Wehbe?

I am planning my wedding which will take place next April. I am thankful that I have met a man who loves me and respects me because he loved Haifa without any other titles. Congratulations! Where will the wedding and the honeymoon be?

We will get married in a simple family wedding in Beirut which will be attended by family only. For the honeymoon, we planned to go to Capri Island, Italy. We are used to seeing Haifa dressed so elegantly, so have you chose your wedding dress?

There are a lot of very famous Lebanese fashion designers that I have very good relations with and that made it hard for me to choose. So I have decided to take my wedding dress from one of the European fashion houses. Is your wedding going to take you from the stage and away from your fans?

My marriage won’t affect my relations with my fans. I will give both my marriage and my fans their rights. Haifa, the beautiful artist, is your beauty totally natural?

I am a very simple Lebanese girl that was implied to be famous but longed for the simple life.

I won’t say I do not care about my looks. But I have never undergone any surgery.

How were you discovered?

I love to do my own makeup, but that does not mean that I have given up on my makeup artists because everyone gives me a special and unique look.

I grew up in Mahrouna, a small farming town in Southern Lebanon. I became a model at a young age and won the title of “Miss South Lebanon” at age sixteen. Then, I started singing professionally until I became what I am today. Since my early childhood, I imagined myself singing on a giant stage. I realized from a young age that I have to work tirelessly and responsibly to achieve my dreams and today. I thank God that my persistent efforts would bear fruit and my childhood dreams came true. Who takes care of your makeup?

Have you ever used Make Up Store’s products?

In fact, it was by chance two years ago when I received a gift from one of my friends and it was a full collection from Make Up Store‘s products. I find that it is more than just makeup. It is a full color encyclopedia and I congratulate Make Up Store for their skin care collection. I hope to see your stores in Lebanon very soon!

For mature skin, avoid powder products that easily make the skin look dry and colorless. Use nourishing, mineral based products such as Wonder Blush and Wonder Foundation to give the skin lustre and color.

This is how you apply a strip of synthetic lashes. 1. Clean your face and eyes. Apply your face and eye makeup before putting the eyelashes on. Make sure you have everything you may need handy. The false lashes make your eyes look bigger and more vivacious. 2. Curl your own lashes. This will allow your own lashes to blend in with the false ones when applied. Draw a fine straight line with black or brown eyeliner that extends a little past the eye. You can also put some of the eyeliner in the gaps between your own lashes. When filling these gaps with black or brown color, your lashes harmonize even better with the fake lashes. 3. Assess the length of the lashes by placing them close to your natural eyelashes and determine the appropriate length. Trim the strip with scissors. Apply the glue on the back of the lashes and let the glue dry for a few seconds. Try not to apply the glue directly over your own eyelashes because you may damage them. Fixate the lash in the outer corner of the eye. Then press it on, gently, as close as you can to your own lashes. Hold still till dry. 4. Finally, correct the eyeliner and complete the look with some mascara. Long lash mascara or Sensitive mascara is perfect for a natural look. If you use waterproof glue, use a special remover for this type of glue. Otherwise, you may use warm water and your regular eye makeup remover.

This wonderful scrub delicately exfoliates your skin and leaves it silky smooth. Gently massage the scrub in a circular motion on lightly hydrated skin. This mild and natural scrub is ideal for deep cleansing. Stimulates blood circulation and leaves your skin soft and revitalized. Enriched with rice oil and sesame oil; two naturally occurring ingredients that protect your skin and provide antioxidants. Coffee prevents the formation of cellulites and promotes elasticity. Seasoned with clove oil for a stimulating and antiseptic result. Use 1-2 times per week. Suitable for all skin type

The SPA soap builds up a rich foam to effectively cleanse your skin and rebalance your pH. SPA soap that contains sea salt for a thorough peeling. Suits all skin types. Use twice a week.”

Cellulite is a popular term that refers to dimpled skin caused by uneven division of fat under the skin. They are mostly found on the thighs and buttocks of women after puberty. Another popular term is orange peel skin. A healthy diet and regular exercise are the first steps in the prevention of cellulites. Exercise burns fat and well-trained muscles tighten the tissue, making the skin more firm. Bad circulation is also thought to play a significant role in the formation of cellulites. Different methods to improve circulation are, therefore, worth trying: peeling and massage. Peeling of the skin increases circulation and tightens the skin. You will not see immediate results but regular peeling does prevent the formation of new cellulites. Exfoliate the skin once a day for less than 5 minutes before a bath or a shower. Use scrub gloves for example and scrub in long circular motions in an upward direction. Start at the sole of your feet and work upward. Massage also increases blood circulation. Therefore, massage your body with a body scrub once or twice a week. Follow the massage with a warm bath to stimulate blood and lymph circulation. Finish with a cold shower. M  |  155

Our SPA products contains sea salt and pure sugar that cares for your skin in many different ways. It soothes itching and refines irritated skin. Stimulates the blood circulation and eases stiff mussels. Relives pain and makes you more alert.

Make Up Store is the Swedish makeup brand that opened in a cellar 1996. It all started when Mika Liias launched a school for aspiring makeup artists, International Make Up Center, in 1992. He discovered that the students could not find quality makeup at reasonable prices. This became the starting point for Make Up Store. Liias decided to manufacture his own makeup, initially in smaller scale. The first day sales totaled 89 SEK. Today, Make Up Store is a global enterprise, known for its good service, competent staff and fantastic quality products at reasonable prices. Make Up Store’s modern, minimalistic and innovative stores – where the products, campaigns and the staff together create a feeling of luxury and flare –are unique and also give the modern customer a shopping experience beyond the ordinary.

styles emerge so what was once considered beautiful is now considered out-dated. It is an ever-changing industry. However, as we move forward in time, there are always hints of the past that seem to lurk in our modern century. The past will always influence the present.

Although the company is rapidly expanding, Make Up Store is one big family. Every issue of M Magazine includes an interview with someone from the family. This time, the makeup artists, Araminta Goff and Maria ABC, from Mexico where Make Up Store already has four stores; for instance, in Mexico City and Cancun.

“Use High Tech Lighter Asteroid on the legs for a more tanned look! Apply a small amount and use it like a cream” Maria

What is beauty to you?

Maria: Everyone has two types of beauty, an external beauty and an internal beauty. The external beauty is the first thing people see when you walk into a room. So clearly it is very important. However, each person has an internal beauty, or essence about them, that will eventually shine through. I believe physical beauty is a tool that should be used to bring out internal beauty. One type of beauty can be used without the other, but together they become an unmatchable force. Araminta: For me, the word beauty has a lot of meanings. I think that everything in the world has its own beauty, simply by existing. We just have to learn how to appreciate it. I can say that a person is beautiful when he/ she takes good care of twoparts of their life: the physical and the spiritual. Having both in agood balance generates what I call beauty. I can also say that theoutside of the person is a reflection of how they feel on the inside. Do you see any differences between beauty today and before?

Maria: Of course, like everything in life, beauty evolves. Throughout the years, new

The most important thing you can do to achieve beauty is to find your own style according to where you find yourself in time. Araminta: The biggest difference I see between makeup today and before is that people used makeup to cover up in the past. Nowadays, we let the makeup be a way of self-expression. Since the 20th century, fashion has involved a lot of changes, in clothes as in makeup.

Araminta: I start my day makeup with Ice Cream Time, a Dual Foundation and Fresh blush for the face. A light eyeshadow with mascara and lipgloss. Describe a great night makeup.

Maria: A perfect night makeup needs a good base. I work with serum and Studio foundation. They are fixated with Dual Foundation. I love smokey eyes and I think it works for every outfit and event. For me, it is the ultimate look. The color of the microshadow depends on my clothes. I love the variety of color that Make Up Store has. I shade my cheeks with a dark eyeshadow and bronzing powder for a fresh feeling. One of my favorite products is the lippencil Sauvage, which I combine with Glosslips Lala. I finish with Face Mist and, then, I am ready for any event. Araminta: I think that a great night makeup starts with good music! A clear and shaded base, shimmery eyes and colorful lips. Tell us what you like about Make Up Store.

Maria: Use High Tech Lighter Asteroid on the legs for a more tanned look! Apply a small amount and use it like a cream.

Maria: Make Up Store is one of the most complete lines in the market today. It has quality, variety and price comparison. I always have something to offer people with different tastes and requirements. I know Make Up Store is a brand that is open and listens to suggestions because their customers are their priority. I love that Make Up Store is always innovative by creating new product lines such as hair, body and SPA. At this moment, I would not change anything about Make Up Store. Not only is the quality

Use a fixed base to cover imperfections and make corrections. The base should also accentuate depths and highlight more favorable features of a person without exaggerating your natural beauty. For me, beauty is simple and elegant.

“Nowadays, we let the makeup be a way of self-expression”

What are your personal beauty tricks?

Always be a part of the face and are the eyes, mouth or cheeks, but not draw attention to everything. Araminta: Having a good attitude, finding the bright side of life and drinking plenty of water are my best beauty tricks. And of course, a good base with nice shading works great. Describe a nice day makeup.

Maria: I start my day makeup with eye cool stick and the crème. Sport foundation for a good base. On the eyes, I apply a bronzed cybershadow and finish with a black mascara. The blush Fresh is my favorite right now! M  |  157

Araminta excellent, but it makes the most demanding buyer loyal to the brand. The quality of Make Up Store is comparable to any top-of-theline cosmetic brands in the market, but the price is incomparable. As they say in Mexico: “Bueno bonito y barato”... Araminta: The best part of Make Up Store is our courses. It is very fulfilling to help people find their new favorite products. My favorite products are the Magic Bronzer, gel eyeliner black, brush #103, Nail File Steel Laser and, of course, the Microshadows.

Hygiene! Regularly go through your makeup bag and your bathroom cabinet to remove expired products. Never store your makeup in areas that are too warm. Bacteria tend to flourish in warmth and fatty products easily deteriorate. Instead, choose pump bottles and tubes to minimize the risk for bacteria. Remember to wash your brushes and to replace your makeup sponges. Avoid lending out your makeup and lipgloss to your friends. Sharpen your pencils frequently and cleanse the pencil sharpener.
