Besides his wedding project, Olle is the head teacher of International Make Up Center in Stockholm and during the fall 2007 he worked with Top Model Sweden. Olle’s education in makeup stems from the book Stage Makeup by Richard Corson which he found at a library as a thirteen year old boy. This book still works as a source of inspiration and guidance in his daily work. To open up the eye, add Tie to the high spot above and under the eye. Use Mixing Liquid to intensify the color. Draw a line with Invitation across the upper lid just above the lashes and to the outside corner of your eye for a lift-up. Mixing light and dark shades make this easy look fantastic. M | 5

Because facial treatments can cause reactions such as flushing, it is recommended to do a facial treatment the week before and complete it with quality skin care and cleansing products for daily use. A gentle peeling treatment can be done at home before the wedding day. Coloring eyelashes and eyebrows enhances the shape and contour and makes the lashes look thicker and fuller. It gives an intense but natural effect to your look. For best results, do the coloring a couple of days before the wedding day so the color fades and give a lighter impression.

Nowadays there are many brides to be who has a tattoo which needs to be cover up at the wedding. The easiest way is to adapt your wedding dress to your tattoo but if you want to have a special model of your dress there are some tricks to be used. For the best result, try this technique several times before the wedding to be shore that it covers right. • To neutralize the tattoo, apply the red pigmented concealer in Cover All Mix. A sun kissed look is a desirable look among brides and grooms. Using a sun bed is not recommended the day before, because the skin can get mottled. The I do collection is presented in a unique kit that includes a makeup book. - There is a great demand for wedding makeup and we decided to create a unique collection with classical colors frequently used in bridal makeup. Because Olle Johansson has worked with weddings for a long time, he received the honor of developing the I do collection. A couple of years ago, we launched a wedding collection in cooperation with the Swedish designer Lars Wahlin. If you have big eyelids you should apply a dark eyeshadow on the whole eyelid. If you want to use a lighter eyeshadowonly apply a third of teh eyelid in the inner corner of the eye, close to the nose. If you will mark the globeline do not use to dark eyeshadows. You could definetly use an eyepencil around the eye or have the eyeliner painted broad.

Thanks to his extensive global experience and his passion for colors, the international makeup artist Framn Rezende has the opportunity to create, explore and innovate. Working with international fashion magazines and shows, Framn has become a successful makeup artist and describes himself as a Fenix aiming for renascence. As a child, Framn was interested in artistic subjects such as painting and sewing. In his adolescence, he performed in a ballet company because classical ballet really fascinated him. Once he saw a photo by Pierre Cardín, he knew his dream was to become a makeup artist. Framn started to work with makeup as a hobby during his high school years. Later, he worked as a makeup assistant for a famous makeup artist in Brazil until he himself became a professional. - During my career as a professional makeup artist, I have had many different assignments; from the fashion shows in Murumbi Fashión in Brazil to Givenchy Haute Couture in Paris, Roberto Cavalli and Valentino in Milan. One of the most exciting international undertakings in my career was an haute couture fashion show for Yves Saint Laurent complete with authentic glamour and classical makeup. Framn has noticed a difference between working nationally and internationally. Internationally, the teams are well organized and the makeup artist is professionally valued; it is

considered a prestigious job. All members in a crew are the best within their profession. Besides the fashion shows, Framn has worked with many international cosmetic brands as well as international magazines as Vogue, In Style, Glamour and Marie Claire. Framn has a passion for creative fashion and a drive to innovate. Working as a makeup artist, can be fantastic but it can also be a struggle. It is important to dedicate yourself completely to your profession in order to achieve all your goals. - If you are new in the business, my advice is to be well organized, to have a great knowledge about the products you are working with and how to use your makeup techniques for each and every one of your customers. To becoma a professional you need to learn the skills. When you master the technique, you can work without boundaries and mix colors as you like. This is the way to create trends. The sources of inspiration are plenty; Pierrot, porcelain dolls, historical personalities, geishas, androgynous women but also how they photographed dead people with their made up faces in the 1930s. Framn is fascinated by the power of imagination, creation and to learn about new people and places. The beauty and elegance of women, nature, art and the native Indians of Brazil also inspires Framn in his work. The beauty icons that Framn admires are the glamorous, classic divas Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Sofia Loren and the modern supermodel Linda Evangelista with her chaM | 24

Make Up Store is one of the fastest growing companies in Sweden, with over 150 stores in 20 countries worldwide. The concept of franchising is indeed a successful story. Each year, stores are nominated to The Store of the Year, and the winner is selected based on their sales statistics, market activities, service and overall profile. Make Up Store in Linköping, Sweden, won this year’s The Store of the Year award. The success of the Linköping franchise can be attributed to Henric Thunell and Therese Lind, who, with their passion for makeup and good service, give their customers that extra something. Make Up Store is available around the world. Because every store must opt for the same interior and atmosphere, the customer knows what to expect when entering the franchise. The Store of the Year 2007 Linköping opened in 2004. Hard work and a passion for makeup and good service have led to this success story. Henric Thunell and Therese Lind planned on opening a store together, and the idea soon became reality. Henric previously worked at Make Up Store in Stockholm and Therese worked as an assistant nurse in Linköping. “In the beginning, one of us would combine the current job with the new assignment as a franchisee for Make Up Store. But both of us had to work full time from day one, which was

really overwhelming. The success was a fact.” Franchising is a demanding job that requires your attention 24 hours a day. In return, it offers you freedom, self-employment, creative liberties and an opportunity to live out your dreams. Your store, however, must be run in the same manner as is customary for other franchising partners worldwide. “The best part is that we can decide for ourselves and tap into our creativity. Our aim is to give customers that extra something and to make them feel content and gratified. We always put our customers first and our regulars continuously compliment us for our work. They feel appreciated because we always treat them in a professional way. Details are very important; comments, bags, valediction.” Henrich and Therese remember 2007 as a fully booked year with many events, new product arrivals and continuous updates of the store display. They also worked with various magazines and television productions. “We set up several goals, many of which have been fulfilled thanks to collaborations and the right budgeting. It is odd to have to turn down certain projects or offers because of time limitations. This year has been intense and inspiring. If you want to succeed, be prepared to give it 200%. Expect hard work and long days, but it is all worth it because you work for yourself. An important thing we learned is the M | 44

value of what you do.” They can find inspiration everywhere; from customers, M Magazine, magazines to travelling. In March, Henric visited Bangkok where he found new sources of inspiration. Henric and Therese share a passion for makeup and love the idea of introducing customers to the world of makeup. It is supposed to be fun and easy, and the details create the entire look. To accentuate the personal features of each customer and bring out their beauty is both creative and inspiring. “When it comes to makeup, a perfect base is a must; foundation, powder and rouge. Once you create the perfect base, you entire makeup will look amazing.” A special moment was Make Up Store’s 10th anniversary; an event at which models, makeup artists and other collaborators put together an amazing show. It was a very special experience.” In the future, Henric and Therese will continue working with makeup, spread their knowledge on cosmetic innovation and welcome new customers to a world of colors. Top Model is a modeling competition and reality show created and hosted by former supermodel and talkshow hostess Tyra Banks. The show has become an international success in over 30 countries worldwide. With a contract at Mikas and an international campaign for Make Up Store, the winner of Top model Sweden, Hawa Ahmed, can look forward to a bright future. Her visage and physique are often compared to the iconic supermodel Iman Abdulmajid, one of her personal favorites. Swedish Top model winner, Hawa Ahmed, has always been interested in working as a model in the exciting fashion industry. Her time at Top model has taught her a lot about the modeling profession, but also about herself as a person. In the beginning, I was nervous. Everything was new and it took a while to get used to the cameras. I learned more about the fashion industry than expected, and it was a very intense and instructive period. The photo shoots were varied and rewarding - and some of them a challenge. I had to face some of my fears, but I could test my abilities and limits which made me a stronger person. The photo shoots were one of Hawa´s favourite

assignments at Top model. A model must have more in her arsenal than good looks to perform well at photo shoots; she has to be aware of her facial expressions and know how to use them. Models learn how to use their personal features and to pose. Depending on how they are accentuated, lips and eyes can change the look completely. You learned how to pose and use different styles and techniques. Herve Bernard is a top coach; fair but strict. He gave me a lot of useful advice. If you want to become a model, learn as much as possible and have fun while you are learning. Her favourite memory from Top model was the 80’s-inspired photo shoot. With its mismatching colors, exaggerated outfits and colorful makeup, she saw it as an opportunity to enjoy the decadent fashion trends of this period in fashion history. Hawa dreams of an international modelling career and is open to new assignments worldwide. She is really looking forward to working with LA/NY Models, which will give her international experience and good prospects. Like many models, Hawa wants to walk the runway at international fashion shows. She is M | 54

ready for a future as a Top Model and enjoys every minute of her new project. She is inspired by former supermodel Tyra Banks and her success in the fashion industry as well as in show business. She is also inspired by supermodel Iman and feels honored to be compared to her looks. - Iman is a great source of inspiration; not only for her success as a supermodel, but also because we share the same background. Model and writer of Desert Flower, Waris Dirie, also inspires me with her touching story, background and activities in the UN, where she gives lectures on women’s rights in Africa. Beyonce and Penelope Cruz are Hawa´s favorite celebrity beauty and style icons. She describes her own style as basic and comfortable. Her makeup focuses on an immaculate and natural-looking base, using colors from beige to brown and finishing with lip gloss. - For a party makeup in 5 minutes, I would focus on a covering foundation and powder for a matte finish plus rouge, lip gloss and mascara. Swedish singer Emilia de Poret launches her album in the mid of February 2008, in cooperation with hit maker and childhood friend Arnthor Birgirsson. Her passion for singing started at an early age by touring worldwide with Adolf Fredrik’s Girls Choir. Besides music, Emilia has a great interest in fashion and makeup. Born close to the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden, Emilia de Poret was steeped in Swedish music since childhood. I would sing them from beginning to end to families and friends. When I was sixteen, I earned pocket money as a lounge singer at a nearby hotel - to the dismay of my parents. Later, I studied music at one of Sweden’s leading music schools. In 2001, Emilia released the Scandinavian radio hit single “Mistreat me, you´ll be sorry“ with Edel Records. In 2005, she collaborated with hitmaker Jörgen Elofsson (Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson) on her debut album “A Lifetime in a moment“. After touring extensively throughout 2006, she is currently working on her second album with songwriter and producer Arnthor Birgisson; who has collaborated with Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, and Enrique Iglesias at Maratone studios. It is a high-energy album that includes deeper, personal ballads and upbeat club tunes. - On my upcoming album, I have collaborated with one of my oldest and best friends Arnthor Birgisson. In our early teens, we made our first demos in Arnthor´s basement. At the time, we listened a lot to R&B, soul and hip-hop. Much of

those influences can be found on my album; from early-90s pop, from Madonna and Janet Jackson, melodic and catchy sounds enticing you to hit the dance floor. Although several Swedish artists have had phenomenally successful careers abroad, such as Abba, Roxette and Cardigans, it has been a long time since a Swede had a real international break, Emilia says. Her album has a unique sound and some of the most talented people in the industry have been involved with its making, so she expects the album to succeed upon an international release. Emilia has some good advice for those who are contemplating a career in music. - First of all, one has to be passionate about music. Then it is a combination of talent, focus, hard work … and luck. So my advice is, if you love music and you believe you have the talent, dedicate all your energy, time and focus on your career - never ever take no for an answer. Emilia describes her personal style as a mix of influences, where some street clothes meet timeless pieces. Think gold trainers with a Chanel bag. She likes to wear funky combinations, lots of color and clothes that stand out without overdoing it. - As long as I can remember, I have been interested in fashion and makeup. As a child, I always wanted to wear the glamorous grownup outfits and would steal my mother’s red lipstick and black mascara. Today, I can fully express myself as an artist. Fashion, makeup and style come with the job. As an artist, it is incredibly important to define a certain style that reflects the music you are currently making. Think of Madonna, who has been able to nail a particular style for each of her albums. Emilia’s advice and best beauty tips on tour with a stressful schedule include lots of water M | 71

consumption, green tea, sleep and exercise. - The rest of the magic relies on great makeup. During a concert, it’s good to add lip gloss or lipstick and powder, whenever you have an instrumental break or change of song. Moisturizing masks, eyelash curlers and great hairbrushes are tools I cannot live without. On stage, Emilia likes a dramatic makeup with smokey eyes and funky nail polish. She prefers a more understated look and lighter makeup, but still sports funky nail polish for her everyday look. Because she has learned to quickly apply stage makeup, 10 minutes is a lot of time for her to get ready. - A quick everyday makeup would consist of concealer wherever needed, a pretty natural eye-shadow, eyeliner, lots of mascara and lip gloss. Define your eyebrows and use a blusher. Both of these give you a better definition of the face, plus are easy to carry out. Emilia thinks Amy Winehouse and Dita Von Teese do a terrific job of expressing themselves through makeup and Greta Garbo had an ethereal beauty that truly transcends time. Otherwise, she loves Gwen Stefani’s immaculate colorful lips which stay on, even after a two-hour concert. - I love deep pink lips “fuchsiacolored”, I brush on the lipstick which gives a long-lasting effect, a must when you’re performing. Another favorite is smokey eyes for a dynamic look on stage. I usually blend my eyeshadows together with Fan Brush to find my own unique combinations. In ten years, Emilia hopes that she will still love doing what she does and still successful at it; maybe help develop and launch upcoming artists. After all, that is one of the reasons she started her own record label, Aristotracks.

If you have thin eyebrows use the Tri Brow with a damp Angle Brush to draw new eyebrows. The Angle brush allows you to actually draw new hair shafts to your eyebrows. When marking the eyebrows start in the middle of the brow at the highest point and soften the color outwards to both directions. William used to work as freelance makeup artist but today he works full time at Make Up Store as a touring makeup artist world wide. Makeup Artistry is a uniquely aesthetic profession; traditional and cutting edge at once. Former student of International Makeup Center, William Värnild, has several ongoing projects and a flow of incoming job opportunities. His assignments range from bridal makeup and Top model to photo shoots in Thailand. William´s interest and passion for makeup started already in his childhood. As a high school student, he worked with various demos for cosmetic brands and came in contact with people in the business. Last year, he studied at the International Makeup Center in Stockholm. I looked into various makeup schools before I made my decision. I also spoke with makeup artists and friends who were former students and finally selected a school – International Makeup Center is a well-established school known for its valuable contacts and professional teachers who are active in the industry. Three unique and qualified teachers provide guidance throughout the education and offer basic knowledge in different styles of makeup. Makeup in terms of fashion, innovation and

different trends in history are assayed during the duration of the education. The learning is constructed to give you the tools you need to create your own style. International Makeup Center is the oldest makeup school in Sweden and functions as a liaison between students applying for traineeship and contacts in the film and fashion industry. The education not only provides insight into the market and great opportunities, it also gives a foundation and valuable knowledge for future assignments. During your studies, you can try different kinds of jobs to gain experience and multi-faceted talent. My advice is to be hungry for knowledge and not hesitate to ask questions. Working as a makeup artist is inspiring, but behind every moment of joy there is a lot of hard work. Success as a sought-after makeup artist depends on your will, hard work and a lot of practice. His favorite celebrities are Madonna, Gwen Stefani and Marilyn Monroe. They embody clean beauty, captivating personal style and have the ability to combine different looks – always with that extra something. Makeup artists learn how to accentuate and beautify personal features, and for William balance and symmetry are the most important factors when applying makeup. For a perfect makeup in no time, he recommends using mascara, rouge and lip-gloss – the essentials in a makeup. Bronzing powder is another trick for a fresh, sun-kissed look. One of my dreams is to work for a cosmetics brand and create new looks and colors. I would like to travel, work with photo shoots and be an inspiration. Success requires determination, humbleness as well as a pragmatic outlook - always with a positive attitude. I am looking forward to future projects; you never know what to expect. It is all a journey.

Camilla, Klara and Alma have all been singing from a very young age and their music interest started by playing instruments as guitar and piano. In 2004 when the biggest manager in Iceland wanted to form a girl-band they auditioned and soon became Nylon. During their career they have been touring with Westlife and Girls Aloud and released four albums. Besides their interest in music, Nylon has a passion for fashion and makeup. In November 2007 Nylon released their fourth album that is a combination of their favorite songs and three new ones. They decided to give the profit of the album to charity, more specifically to breast cancer. In 2004 Nylon released the single “Losing a friend” in UK which was a success. They became a part of the international music industry and they will continue working internationally. - Losing a friend was the first song we released in the UK so it does have a special meaning for us. It charted at number 29 after we’d done a lot of touring and interviews so it felt really good to see the work pay off. We don’t quite feel as we’ve gone international yet as we’ve mainly been focusing on the UK market apart from the Icelandic one, but the next step is to go international. The name Nylon is originally NY- LON; standing for New York – London as the material came from NY to London. But the reason why they picked the name is that they thought it was a bit sarcastic to name a girl band after a synthetic material, as many people seem to feel that girl-bands are fake. Besides their own touring, Nylon have supported West Life and Girls Aloud on their tours . - It was the first major arena tour we did. It was absolutely amazing. Both tours where very different but equally good. Westlife was kind of more beautiful ballads and fantastic harmonies, while Girls Aloud where more dancing and more of a mega show. Even though these tours where fantastic the tour we did with McFly we would have to say was our favorite. These boys are so talented and energetic on stage it is amazing. Behind the success there is hard work, and the music industry is known for tuff concurrence, long days and a lot about taking your own initiatives. - First and foremost you’ve got to believe in

yourself and go after what you really want. Don’t sit at home waiting for someone to come knocking on your door. You’re got to take every opportunity you get, go for auditions and learn from every experience. It is very important, in order to be happy and life your life to the fullest to believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams, this does sound like a cliché but we really believe this to be true. Dreams are never silly, not giving them a chance is. Nylon sing in both English and Icelandic. They do feel the difference, especially because the Icelandic sounds very harsh so the songs tend to sound smoother in English. Nylon have written English lyrics to most of their Icelandic songs and they sound very different when the language changes. They love singing in both languages it just all depends on where they are at the time. Besides their interest in music, the three girls also have a great interest in fashion and makeup. They love shopping and trying new make-up products and lend each other clothes all the time and spend hours searching in the eye shadow shelves. The girls have all different styles and interests. - Alma has a very retro style but still probably is the classiest dresser of us all. She’s a bit 60’s in her style, and keeps things very simple but yet very elegant. Camilla has the wildest fashion sense. She’s the one that dares to wear beautiful colors and she has tons of amazing dresses with all kinds of different patterns. She’s the hippie. Klara has the mixed style. She has been successful as a designer in Iceland, making hoodies in different colors and has been the designer of our stage clothes on number of occasions. She has always been the most decided on what she likes and dislikes in fashion and often takes on the role as the bands stylist. l But yet we try to be consistent when we go out or perform. We think it is important as a group to look like one. So we try to match without being identical. On tours it can be stressful so the girls had learn some useful beauty tips and tricks on stage and the makeup tools they cannot do without during a tour. - The best beauty tip would probably be to get enough sleep. Rest is very important both for your looks and you performance so we try to be shore to get good night sleep before a gig. We also love shiny eye shadows and it is M | 86

very good to have good mascara. We try to renew ours every two months to be shore it is working perfectly. If they must choose their favorite make up look it would probably be natural. Once in a while, though they like to go crazy, like on tour. Their wild side shines through, because on stage you can do everything. But in general they like the natural beauty makeup look. But the art of making you look beautiful without looking like a clown is tricky. You can use a lot of good products, but you have to use it right. - We all look up to those who are able to capture their own special beauty. Nobody is the same and the same goes for makeup. What works for one person, doesn’t work for the next one. We just have to experiment, be sure not to get caught in the same old since the 80’s or so and be aware that everybody can be beautiful. No matter what people say. Their favorite celebrities in makeup and style are Sugababes. - The stars are always reinventing themselves every other day. So our thoughts of those with the best makeup changes as the day go by. But for now it is Sugababes, their last two videos have been amazing. Their makeup was luminous. On tour, you must learn how to get a long lasting makeup in no time. When the girls have to get ready in 10 minutes they learned some basic tips. - We would probably go easy on the make up, maybe tinted moisturizer or some other good foundation, good mascara to brighten up the day and some good bronzing powder. In the other hand, after been touring that much, we have developed amazing talent to put some crazy stage makeup on in less than 10 minutes. Don’t ever over do it, maybe just on stage. Be natural during the day and ad that little extra in the evening. Don’t try to be someone else, be proud of who you are. Good confident is very attractive. In ten years, Nylon will have succeeded their goals in music and even if they haven’t they will be extremely happy. - We will probably have started a family and had children. But also, if we really achieve what we want in music we hopefully will be still going strong and singing all over bringing our music to as many fans as possible.

Annie Oliv, 20, from Gislaved in Småland, Sweden, is one of the world’s most beautiful women. In front of two billion viewers, she was named third runner-up in the Miss World Pageant 2007 in China. She was ranked the most beautiful of the European contestants and was crowned Miss World Europe in the final.

“For me, it is important to take care of my family and be accountable for my own happiness. People always ask me why I am so happy all the time, but I am happy. I am grateful of the life I have”.

It is early in the morning and Stockholm is cold and frosty. From a distance, Annie’s proud posture, cool composure and tight ponytail make her look like an ice queen. But looks deceive. Annie is warm, present and cheerful. She sparkles like a running brook in springtime. We meet up at a café in Stockholm. Although Annie is not acquainted with the Swedish capital and merely on a quicky visit to the city, she makes it on time. She orders a cup of coffee and a bun. Annie has recently returned from a month’s visit in China together with other beauty contestants from 106 countries worldwide. Was it demanding? “Not at all,” Annie laughs, “All the girls were really nice! After a month, I can travel to 106 countries and know that I can stay at someone’s place.” No catfights? “No, no, no catfights at all,” she giggles. No growling? Nothing really juicy to reveal? Annie looks perplexed. “Miss World is more than a beauty pageant,” she points out. “It is just as important to have a nice personality, be social and cordial and live healthy, as it is to look good,” and then she brightens up: “This is kind of funny: girls from the different continents behaved in very distinct ways. The Europeans were punctual and listened to the choreographers. The Latin American girls were

uncordial and scolded the choreographers for teaching them the wrong things. The African girls were proper but only wanted to eat and sleep. The Asian girls were quiet, humble and did as they were told. The American girls were also proper and were always on top of things. They were control freaks.” Annie quickly befriended Miss Usa and Miss South Africa. The three contestants found each other at once. “While the other girls were applying makeup, we went to the gym and exercised,” she says and enjoys a sip of coffee. Annie partly made it to the final because she excelled in the sports’ category. She also aced the talent portion of the pageant, when she sang ‘Thank You for the Music’ by Abba. “I have played the cello since I was a child, so I am used to performing in front of people,” she explains. Three years ago, her mother fell ill in cancer. Her mother’s malaise greatly affected her perspective on life. She learned to live in the moment and be grateful for each new day, but she realised that many people throw away their lives. “Life starts here and now. I can talk about anything with him. I’m a tomboy in his eyes. During my upper secondary education, I studied natural sciences, mathematics and computers. I complemented my academics with dance studies at Balettakademin.” As the typical tomboy, she makes no preference between wearing makeup and wearing no makeup. She would never dream of covering her face with cosmetics before grocery shopping. Single Eyelashes Mixing Liquid and Glitter

Smear some of the Twinkle Eyeshadow onto your fingertips and let it set for a few seconds. Gently, press the glitter on top of the eyeshadow. Round Eyes? If the shape of your eye is round, the shape of the eyebrows are normally round as well. This could sometimes make you appear sad. A makeup trick is to pluck the eyebrows into a special shape customised for you. There should be a peak on the eyebrow, slightly a bit over the pupil when you are looking straight forward. Apply your darker eyeshadows in a shape that goes upwards and outwards from the eyelashes. Use an eyepencil or eyeliner and make a fine line close to the eyelashes on the upper lid. Have the liners painted thicker in the outer corner of the eye, both on the upper and lower lid. Apply eyepencil on the inner rim of the eye. Bea Szenfeld is a passionate designer and her style is characterized by playfulness and vintage with a touch of Mary Poppins in wonderland. Her impressive curriculum includes studies at Cutters Academy in Gothenburg and Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm as well as internships at Stella McCartney. She also participated in the TV Show Fashion House. Today, the Bea Szenfeld design is sold across Scandinavia and in the US. Bea does not let herself be controlled by fashion trends; she is indeed a trend-setter. Bea Szenfeld was born in Poland but moved to Sweden with her mother in 1983. Her passion and aspirations in life were early on related to fashion, and she has now been active as a designer since 2002. Her studies at Cutters Academy in Gothenburg and Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm as well as internships at Björn Borg and Stella McCartney have given her great opportunities in the international fashion industry. Bea first attracted media attention when she participated in the TV show Fashion House; a competition where she spent eight weeks on location in Rome with other European designers and won. Her first collections as a designer were very experimental and rich in detail. - Fashion House was really exciting and I learned a lot, especially about working and

produce under pressure. The internship with Stella Mc Cartney was a great experience. Bea Szenfeld established her own company in 2002 with prêt-a-porter collections for both men and women under the label Bea Szenfeld. She also creates vintage collections under the brand Bea Szenfeld Vintage. Her designs have been presented at the Nordic Museum in Stockholm as well as the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg. - Education is very important in the world of fasion but so are a passion for creativity and artistic interest. When setting up my company, I took it step-by-step as I would with other challenges. If you want to work with fashion, it is important to be educated and have patience as well as good entrepreneurship. Practical training is also important to attain an insight into the fashion industry. Behind the glamorous surface, you’ll find hard work, malfunctioning sewing machines and long workdays. Bea´s latest assignment was to interpret the new collection of Tommy Hilfiger and vouch for the display in his boutique in Stockholm. - This was an exciting meeting – our designs are really different. Tommy Hilfiger stands for “classic with a twist” and my idea is “too much is never enough”, so this cooperation was a great mix. Typical workdays for Bea consist of administration as well as sketches, sewing and finding new ways of inspiration. She loves designing M | 118

dresses and accessories and being creative and describes her style as Mary Poppins in Wonderland. - My sources of inspiration come from old books, magazines and clothes and I like secondhand and flea markets. Movies are also a great inspiration; the fantasy world of Tim Burton as well as Pedro Almodóvar, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Ingmar Bergman. My favourite designer is Coco Chanel. I would like to see Madonna or Björk wear my designs. Bea is not controlled by fashion trends. She is, indeed, a trendsetter and likes to mix new clothes with secondhand. - It is important to find your own style and wear clothes and makeup that make you feel comfortable. I prefer to match my clothes with my makeup. My taste varies from a natural and ethereal look to John Galliano’s theatrical style. My day makeup includes foundation, rouge, mascara and natural lip gloss. For parties, I like to combine smokey eyes with red lipstick. I also like to experiment with different hairstyles, braids and hats. Today, retailers in Nordic countries and other parts of the world sell her collections and Bea continues to challenge herself in her work. Clothing designed by Bea Szenfeld is crafted beautifully both on the inside and on the outside, to reflect her belief that fashion is one of the most effective forms of communication.

Eyeliner Sport Foundation

For a natural and flawless base, simply do as follows.

Conceal pimples and dark rings with a synthetic brush #206 and the Cover All Mix.

Apply Sport Foundation from the nose and outwards to temples and neck. Sport Foundation is the best suitable product for the practical person. The product is a foundation-and-tool in one. With a single click, you fill the synthetic brush with foundation and it is ready for application. Sport Foundation is a velvetlike oil-free formula that binds moisture and leaves your skin with a matte result. It evens out your skintone without dry or flawed areas.

Finish off with some blush in a pink color for a fresh result. Also sweep some blush over your eyelids for a healthy glow. M | 120

For full lashes and beautiful eyes, firstly apply eyepencil in between your eyelashes. The eyepencil fills in the gaps between your lashes to make them look fuller and richer.

Tone the eyepencil with Brush #102 and apply Gel Eyeliner Black on the eyelid with the same brush. The eyeliner should be as close to the eyelids as possible.

For a perfect angle at the outer corner of the eye, draw a small dot with your eyeliner to determine where the line should end. Make sure the dots are even on both eyes.

Use a brighter eyeshadow close to the lashes and a darker eyeshadow in the crease line to make your eyes appear bigger. M | 121

Sunpowder

A lot of people use sunpowder to intensify their tan or to appear suntanned - sometimes with a terrible result. Sunpowder swept across your whole face gives you a pale neck and asymmetric face.

Sunpowder should be used to enhance the shades in your face. The technique is called shading. The girl in the picture should shade her jawline, the tip of her nose, chin and eyelids.

A yellow eyeshadow, Microshadow Lemon, can be used as a highlighter and contrast shaded areas. The technique is called highlighting and is intended to make aof your face reas pop out. This trick works great on any skintone. M | 122

If you are approaching 50+, here are some tricks to make you look flawless. Use bright eyeshadows because they have an enlargening effect on your eyes. Jari Sillanpää is one of the most successful performing artists in Finland and has always had a great interest in music. In 1995, he won the Tango Price title in Seinäjoki Tango Festival, which launched his career. His music is a fusion of pop, rock and musicals with a touch of Elvis, Queen, Elton John and Robbie Williams. Besides music, Jari is also into shoes and his closet boasts a wide variety of footwear. Finnish artist Jari Sillanpää spent his adolescence in Sweden, where participated in various musical activities. Although he started singing in choirs and took piano lessons as a child, his interest in music stems back to his early childhood, during which he hummed before he knew how to speak. Hard work with many tours and musical enterprises have helped promote his successful career. The prestigious Tango Price in Seinäjoki in 1995 has meant a lot to him. Jari was also awarded The Press Choice Award in the international song contest The Golden Stag in Romania, in which Christina Aguilera and the daughter of James Brown also participated. He has a great interest in different types of music and never hesitates to mix them. “When planning my tours, I always think of the

music I like and mix them after my own taste. My music is a combination of pop, rock, ballads and musicals, but I also choose songs by Elvis, Queen, Elton John and Robbie Williams. I even did a potpourri concert of Finnish folkmusic once.” In 1997, Jari played the principal part in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Aspects of Love, and he represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul. Jari has a lot of experience in music, both nationally and internationally, and is a multi-skilled artist. All his different music styles and interests make for a really successful combination. His sources of inspiration come from impressions and experiences in everyday life; from travel and movies to photography and nature. “To be successful in the music industry, you have to believe in yourself, be self-confident and hard working. As a 20-year old, he dreamt of a modeling career and worked as a model in New York and Barcelona. He was mostly booked for commercials, but due to the lack of assignments, Jari decided to put those dreams on M | 149

hold and whole-heartedly pursue a career in music. Even if the modeling experience was a short period in his career, he learned a lot. Jari describes his on-stage style as modern, but he privately prefers jeans and T-shirts and neutral colors such as black and grey. “When I am performing live, I think a lot about my outfits and I like to follow trends. I used a lot of colors in the past, but now I prefer more basic colors. I also like jeans with details as well as shoes. I have plenty of shoes in my closet, and unlike some shoe fanatics, I actually use them.” Jari is used to makeup for shows, concerts and photo shoots. Touring and performing can be stressful for the skin, and he always uses moisturizers. He likes to try new products in makeup and beauty. When it comes to his hopes and dreams, Jari believes in destiny. He takes one day at a time without worrying too much about the future. “Maybe I will spread my wings abroad. But my wish is to live a balanced, happy life with my loved ones. As my motto says: if your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme. If you let go of something you are running after, it will come back to you.”

Stig Westlund has been a part of Make Up Store since the beginning and he has always been passionate about makeup and creativity. Stig is the shop manager of Make Up Store at Åhlens City in Stockholm, the largest Make Up Store worldwide. Stig is a talent in music and singing as well as a makeup artist and a successful salesman. With his personal style and that extra something Stig is a true inspiration. He believes life is a party and he feels lucky to have a job that allows him to dress up, makeup and be creative.

Stig Westlund started his career in makeup as a student at International Makeup Center in 1991. Besides his studies and free lance projects he worked together with CEO and founder Mika Liias and helped him at the stock-room, which back then consisted of a basement. This was the beginning of the cosmetic brand Make Up Store. - I am really glad that I have been involved in the company since the start and that I have seen the development of Make Up Store from scratch to a successful, well know cosmetic brand worldwide. It has been an interesting and fun journey and the 10 years Celebration of Make Up Store was a great experience and a very special moment for me. Stig has always been interested in creativity, music and artistic professions. The music business is a tuff one and it can be good to

combine with another job. He feels that being a shop manager gives him the opportunity to have a creative, full time job where every day is like a party. He takes one day at a time and enjoys it to the full. - My work is really fun and you never know what the day would be like, every day is a new one. You never know who will enter the shop. It can be anyone; from artists to regular costumers or new ones. The important thing is to treat every costumer equally. Diversity is a main reason why I like working at a department store, and the great variation. Working at Make Up Store in Åhlens City is a challenge and a source of motivation. Stig likes to work with people and give that extra something to the costumers, which explains his success. He wants to maintain an open dialogue among his co-workers and it is important to create a positive atmosphere; it is also a team work and a good team means success. It should be fun to come to work, and think of it as a party by using different styles of makeup to inspire costumers and show that makeup is fun, and not a must among others. To be able to fit in, one must be prepared to always give high quality service no matter what and always put the costumer first. - Sometimes it can be stressful and a lot going on around, you must focus on the person in front of you. In a big city there is always something going on. Therefore it is important M | 159

to have a good communication in the team and support each other. Stig has a personal style and stands out in a crowd. He likes black, tight clothes and plays with different outfits, always with a glamorous touch. To create your own personal style, Stig think you should focus on your own taste and create an original and not a copy. He also loves using makeup and experiment with new looks and colors. But he also tries to find a balance in his glamorous work, where he tends to dress up, and his private life; sometimes Stig dresses down when he goes out using jeans and a basic t-shirt, always with makeup. His sources of inspiration can be anything from costumers, co-workers to impressions from everyday life. A CONVERSATION ABOUT PERFUME Perfume has always been a luxurious product in all cultures and eras but was first used in religious ceremonies. Nowadays fragrances are popular than ever and many celebrities are involved in the perfume industry. Make Up Store created their first perfume Celebration in autumn 2006, which became a success. Exclusive ingredients are mixed together for a special scent that is different on every individual. The search for new fragrances continues and it’s a delightful journey. Perfume, aromatherapy and luxury beauty products are popular than ever. The history of perfume is extended worldwide and the word perfume comes from the Latin per fume “through smoke”. One of the oldest uses of perfumes comes from burning of incense and aromatic herbs used in religious ceremonies, often the aromatic gums, frankincense and M | 166

myrrh, gathered from trees. Nowadays there are a lot of technologies involved and it takes time to create a perfume; the way from thought to product is a complicated process. In 2006 Make Up Store presented the first perfume Celebration in limited edition, in relation to the 10th anniversary. Celebration was a success and since then, new fragrances has been invented to create a diversity of perfumes to suit the costumers. When you apply perfumes apply them to pulse points such as the folds in the crook of your elbow and back of knees, wrist, neck and cleavage. Perfumes and scents also create memories and activate our senses. When choosing a fragrance, your subconsciousness can associate scents from a vacation or a special moment with your loved ones.
