Our new Tech writer Aaron checks out the latest Bluetooth offering from Logitech. Great design, easy pairing but some schoolboy errors to report... “Rid the world of wires” says Logitech. Their solution? The Z600’s: Bluetooth speakers, straight forward pairing system with one or two downsides. Simple, amazing range and decent enough sound, but alas also some crippling design choices. Volume control uses a touch pad on top. A bit of a guessing game and

quite irritating. Sounds buzzes as you up the volume which means a bit of fiddling with your device’s sound to find the perfect balance. Still, comparable and decent sound to others in the price range.

Try and stay true to the roots of DJing and you’ll be left behind with a heavy bag of costly vinyls. Thanks to digital music collections like Spotify, DJ-ing has truly gone online. And now, thanks to the free Pacemaker App for the iPad, you can mix the millions of songs in the Spotify library, wherever, whenever. Pacemaker were the first in the world to release a portable DJ device, and now they’ve brought that design and software brilliance to a mobile app. Their philosophy is that mixing should be as easy as choosing a filter for a photo a la Instagram, and their partnership with Spotify proves this. The app comes with a free Spotify Premium trial, removing barriers to normally expensive tracks and you can also access the music already in your own music library. Get it: Free (purchasable upgrades) From: appstore.com/pacemaker

ULTRA ORGANISED

Shaun Duvet - The man behind ULTRA SOUTH AFRICA

You’re more in the know about thing than anybody else, what’s one piece of advice every festival goer needs to know before they come? My team and I are extremely excited about the Ultra Music Festival of course and we can promise the most incredible experience, unlike this country has never seen before. Everyone needs to know that this is going to be the biggest music event to ever come to South Africa . The production (LED lighting and stages) are unlike any other here before. Also, it’s more than 12 hours of insane music from international and national artists, on 3 stages. So South Africa better come prepared. You’ve put together a set list more stacked then the Playboy Mansion on “No Bra Wednesdays”. Number 1 don’t miss act in your opinion…? That’s a difficult one as all of these DJ’s are talented. It’s really up to preference, everyone has a favourite. I’d say don’t miss any act! And…support our local boys & girls, they are up there with the rest of them. Everyone is dying to know: why is Ultra only

one day? Any chance next year will be more? This has been a decision between the South Africa and global team. We’ll soon announce our plans moving forward. You opened a club especially for the World Cup. How’d it go? How did the World Cup help the EDM scene in South Africa? The World Cup was a huge tourism opportunity, bringing people from across the world to South Africa. The dance music scene was already growing strongly and is still growing strongly. Why is Cape Town better than Jozi or Jozi better than Cape Town? These two cities are not better than each other, they each have a unique element to them. These are the two largest cities in South Africa and this is why we chose to host Ultra South Africa there. We needed central cities that would have the largest reach and be most accessible to the fans. You’re a busy man: festival thrower, club owner, radio DJ, live deck scratch God. Which one bring you most joy? I love it all. It is all encompassing for me really. But

TIESTO

DID U KNOW ?

most of all I like to spend time with my family ;) Advice for DJs who want to one day play at Ultra? Start throwing your own parties, be true to yourself, and work HARD! You are one of few South African DJs to have worked with…well…everyone. Mr Scruff, Krafty Kuts, Fatboy Slim and more. Who is still on your wishlist? Wait and see. Who would win in a fight: Deadmau5 VS Steve Aoki? That depends on what they are fighting about. How are we (South Africa) doing in EDM? We are doing extremely well, the market is growing daily. The early bird tickets for Ultra were sold out in less than 30 minutes – proving that South Africa knows good EDM and are just hungry for more. The quality of artists that are being launched in South Africa are unique to us but are able to compete on a global scale. Look at Goldfish, they have a huge following in Europe and Pascal & Pearce as well.

ALESSO

SHOW STOPPER... Tiesto rocked the 2004 Summer Olympics so hard that he had the athletes jamming in front of the stage. Officials had to sheepishly ask the world class athletes to behave like adults and not Matric Rage attendees.

MARTIN GARRIX

KREWELLA

THANKS POPS! Alesso owes his place in the music world to Sebastion Ingrosso’s father who took a listen to his music and thought: “that’s good”. Then they had coffee.

IRISH ONLY...THANKS! GOLDFISH

All avid Jameson drinkers. Jamesons is the world’s best selling Irish Whisky with over 4 million cases sold annually. That’s Whisky without the “E”. With the “E” is reserved for the Scots.

CLAUDE VON STROKE

AFROJACK

CHOICE PETS Goldfish have no stomachs, can’t close their eyes and have a memory span of at least 3 months long. They can also live for 40 years but not if you flush them down the toilet.

THE SIMPSOOONS! The afro man has an unhealthy obsession with the Simpsons. Or is that a “healthy” obsession?

MYTH BUSTED! Ostriches don’t in fact bury their heads in the sand. Much like humans, that would kill them. They do dig holes in the sand to bury valuable stuff. Also like humans.

TO DO TODAY newspaper

Ultra Music Festival is so near, you can smell the toothpaste on it’s breathe. Time for the nitty gritty. Below is everything you need to know: Doors open at 12AM in Jozi on the 15th and 2PM in CT on the 14th. Both events end at 2AM. Look out for an afterparty of your choice. Get your directions to the venue clear before you leave. Nothing worse than missing your DJ because you got lost. Bleh! Car pool...like crazy. This ensures that “lost car keys” are someone elses problem and superpower-like drinking abilities. Keep an eye on your valuables. EDM events are like black holes for cellphones. Make sure you stay hydrated. It’s an African Summer out there. Don’t forget your sunscreen. Take pictures, leave footprints. If it’s not yours, leave it alone. If it is yours take it home with you. At 2:30AM, you’re going to be sitting on the grass thinking “I’m too pissed to drive”. When that happens, call this number 0861 433 552.

The awesome folk at myistore.co.za think you need new headphones for your next set. How does a set of R1 500 Zinken UrbanEars sound?

Tweet us a pic of your BEST DJ POSE with the #GoDoStuff...and we’ll put you in the draw! EXTRA POINTS FOR SEXY, CREATIVE, UNIQUE & COOL! Terms (follow us on Facebook) & Conditions (follow us on Twitter... You’re in!
