Sony Mobile wearable wear - 9AM tech
Done it? Tweet it!! #GoDoStuff
Knock, knock! Who’s there? Wearable tech in 2014, that’s who! And while they may not be first to the party, Sony Mobile makes a very serious showing of their offerings in the space this January. Their SmartWear Experience features 3 pillars: SmartWear products like their fully waterproof and 24/7 wearable Core Smartband which fits at the heart of the adventure as it offers life empowerment by logging daily
activities like distance travelled, music listened to and pictures taken at any given moment. These features link directly to your Sony Mobile tablet or phone (the second pillar) which hosts the last side of the triangle, the visual representation of this all, the Lifelog application. Google Glass, Samsung Gear and now Sony Mobile. At some point in 2014 you’re going to don something dynamic. Choose your weapon friends.

Moto X print ad
surf - 10AM
why are we kicking things off this month with the advice that you scan the qr code below and go check out this print advert that appeared in an international version of wired magazine? read on...
Done it? Tweet it!! #GoDoStuff
Mark this moment down as the day everything changed. Print...has become interactive. In a genius bit of marketing, Motorola, while advertising their new Moto X phone in the States, ran an ad campaign in Wired Magazine that saw the page the advert was printed on change colour to the reader’s desire. The Moto X phone (which we probably won’t ever see in SA) has interchangeable coloured rear covers, and the folk at Motorola felt that readers should be allowed to try their favourite colours out, on the ad, before choosing which one they would buy. So they included three LEDs, a slab of plexiglass, four batteries and an array of buttons right in the middle of the magazine. Readers then selected the colour they thought looked best on the phone and pushed a button to select it. The phone’s rear lit up via LED into 11 different colours. The ad which appears in the January issue of the magazine turns off after a few seconds of inactivity to help save the li-ion batteries which powers the magic. No doubt a good idea as this issue of the mag is going to be in collector’s hands for many years to come. Get it: R150 From: Wired.com

Need for Speed Ri v als Done it? Tweet it!! #GoDoStuff
ride - 11AM What’s it all ‘bout? As always with the next generation of Need for Speed, the big question is: what’s new. They never do the same thing in consecutive games. One you’re driving cross country in a race, the next you’re running away from cops on foot. This time in NFS you get the opportunity to see what it’s like to wear a cop uniform and chase and catch the racers. All the while, you can still assume the other role of the inconsiderate supercar owner who has no regard for human life or the rules of the road. Rivals = “dual-career mode”. Split personality Playing the racer career is as we’ve come to expect. Compete in Hot Pursuits, Time Trials and Races against other drivers, online and solo, and this time they’ve given you purchasable and upgradable pursuit tech like Electronic Magnetic Pulses and Shockwaves to fend off your rivals and pursuing cops. As you race, you can drive through repair shops to replenish your nitrous and pursuit tech and repair your car before you go bust. Driving and completing events get you Speed Points, but it gets quite frustrating as your Speed Points need to be banked at your Hideouts, otherwise if you get bust or wrecked, everything gets reset. This is very annoying and takes some time to master as you complete an event and are almost immediately bust by the cops before you can even set a route to a hideout, let alone bank
it was a bit late coming into the offices, but its epic fun and thus worth a full review by our resident gamer AskSteve.co.za. This franchise of games gets better with age...
them. The good news is, you get the hang of it eventually. But then you get too good at it and learn how to jippo the system, find an easy event right next to a repair shop and a hideout. Soon you’re essentially printing Speed Points. Being a cop is a lot less exciting. Cars come free and you spend your days chasing racers. Much more fun as the other personality imho. MultiPlayer This element of the game has been pushed beyond limits thanks to a feature known as AllDrive. Making it more “alive” than competitor titles thanks to AllDrive, NFS Rivals sees players dropped into a one-world map along with other online racers. Races, friends and challenges can be picked up and started immediately. This game is to the racing genre what GTA V is to the homicidal, anti-social, no-consequences genre. And next? Keen eyed readers will notice a picture of Jesse from Breaking Bad on the right? That’s because he’s just finished shooting Need for Speed: The Movie which is scheduled for release in March 2014. Now isn’t that your car’s engine growling at you? Go make it happy. Get it: R600 From: Game.co.za

FULL REVIEW - Audi A3 Sedan
drive - 12AM
the classic hatch gets a bum. Audi has thrown a slight extension onto the end of their teenage hatch and we’ve been driving it on the launch...
South African’s love hatches exactly 100% as much as they love their biltong. This is a verifiable fact. (Ed’s Note: this is not a verifiable fact). Thus wouldn’t it make sense to keep things the way they are if you’re going to make a sedan? That’s exactly what Audi has done. There is a growing market of hatch buyers out there who have a need for a bigger car. Think about your mate who got an Audi A3 straight out of school. Now he keeps turning down your invitations to go to outdoor music festivals, he’s always working and he has his 2nd kid on the way. That’s a guy who needs a bigger, more practical car. And that’s who the Audi A3 Sedan is perfect for. It’s got an expectedly comfortable interior with a predictable ride and handling. You could be forgiven for thinking “they’ve probably just stuck a boot on there with no real space inside”, but that wouldn’t be very German. The boot is actually a real boot, spacious and big enough for a pram, or a set of golf clubs

Free calendars given to you in January. Bleh! Right? Well not this one. This one focuses completely on the free days we have in the year and none of those boring week days. Ipso Facto... it rocks harder than a Thursday public holiday. While there may only be international calendars available at the moment, enough pressure on their website from the Southern tip of Africa may persuade them to draw us up a local version. But in the meantime you’re welcome to download the calendar for free...something else that rocks. Get it: Free From: halfthree.co

or lots and lots of bags from Zara. The engines aren’t new: there’s two petrol engines (1.4T FSI and 1.8T FSI) and one diesel engine (2.0 TDI). But the really good news is what you get as standard: Audi’s MMI Radio with full colour, slide-out LCD screen is there along with a full LED Interior lighting package and the light and rain sensors for bad weather. Sports-wise you get as standard the leather covered multi-function sports steering wheel, 3-spoke, with shift paddles for S tronic models, front sports seats, sports suspension and Audi Drive Select with Efficiency programme. A complete package? We’d say so. Get it: R323 500 - R372 500 From: Audi.co.za

You’ve done a lot of festivals in your time. Fair to say it’s one of your favourite environments to perform? Most definitely. Festivals are among our favourite places to play. Excitement probably goes without saying, but what does it mean to be playing alongside Bastille? Our relationship with Dan goes way back. And we are so proud of his success. So it’s a great honour to share the stage. And obviously there’s the family connection (members of Bastille and members of Bed on Bricks are cousins) which everyone is talking about. Any chance you guys will jam together? Time will tell. We did have an ideas jam in London in October. But nothing rehearsed yet. You’ve been on a hiatus for a few years. What have you each been up to? I (Dave the guitarist) had a bad fall downhill bombing on my skateboard and broke my wrist. I have been in recovery for 18 months now. 2 ops. 10 screws. I

meet dave, the guitarist from bed on bricks. they’re the crew who are going to be opening up for the outstanding international band bastille this january as they rock this side of africa. dave gave us a few words on their band, their new album and what it’s like being family to one of the world’s biggest bands at the moment...
am playing again now and amped. In the time off, we have mostly been breeding. We now have 4 baby bricks among us Any chance of a new full length album in the new year? We have just released a “Best of” ep. with 3 new songs. The aim is to create lots more music to release as we go. Who would be your dream band or artist to perform with? Hey! Bastille is not bad. Just gonna enjoy this moment for now. If someone is going to buy one of your albums, which one should they go for? The new one, entitled “BOB”, is a great chronology of the last 10 years. (we are 10 this year) and makes for a good “drive fast, take chances” album. Promoting new stuff in the music world is damn near impossible. How do you guys go about ensuring people know you’re there. Interviews in ToDoToday Newspaper always help :-) [Ed’s Note: NICE!]

Any advice for up and coming bands looking to one day open for the likes of Bastille? I suppose just keep on keeping on. The business of music is a by-product. Do it ‘cos you love it, because it’s beautiful to be in love. What activities take up your days? Where do you get the energy you exude on stage? Life is kief. No matter what happens you can only choose how to respond. Just enjoy the stoke and the energy will come. Give us one Bucket List item you’d like to accomplish as a band. Tour the western world. UK, Europe, Australia, US and Japan would be great too.
