I
remain humbled by the privilege to serve as president of Wiley College. Wiley is an institution with a rich heritage and commitment to excellence that is recognized around the world because of proud alumni who wave the banner of their alma mater through their accomplishments and exemplary records of service.
Every day, I work with a committed team of educators, administrators and support staff who share my vision to uphold the College’s legacy of excellence by training and producing graduates, who, like their predecessors, will go on to compete, lead, and achieve in the workforce, manage life’s challenges, and love and serve God by contributing to the betterment of their communities. Yes, we expect much from our graduates. Our expectations are high. However, we equip our students to succeed by ensuring they receive a whole, multi-dimensional education and college experience inclusive of academic instruction and training by skilled, knowledgeable faculty; supportive programs to help them stay on track in their studies; and co-curricular programs that enhance their spiritual growth, develop their leadership abilities, and provide them opportunities to use and develop all their talents and gifts. Our work and results would not be possible without the unwavering devotion to and support of Wiley by those who help her stand strong – caring and generous trustees, church leaders, alumni, and what I call our world community of friends and supporters. On the pages of this annual report we share highlights about our successes over the last year. It is my hope you will enjoy reading the report and view it as a return on your investment. Finally, as I always close, when you finish reading this report, please pass it on so that others may learn more about this jewel called Wiley College. Sincerely,

Wiley receives $500K National Science Foundation STEM Grant
T
he Division of Sciences at Wiley College received a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to help foster, develop, and retain students’ interest in studying and earning degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The threeyear grant will focus on graduating well-qualified students who will go on to complete graduate school and pursue careers in STEM fields. These outcomes will support the attainment of the overarching goal of increasing the number of underrepresented professionals of color working in STEM fields. One major activity of the grant is the opening of a Pre-College Summer Math Program for new STEM-major freshmen to increase and enhance their math comprehension and aptitude. In year two of the grant, the Division of Sciences will establish a minor degree in physics and a minor degree in computer science to expand students’ interest in and entry into quantitative sciences. Wiley’s Division of Sciences will also establish a STEM Journal Club and Undergraduate Research Program to increase experiences and opportunities that will strengthen students’ critical thinking as well as their commitment to studying in STEM fields. This is the second National Science Foundation grant the College has received in the last three years.

Dream Team turns Marshall Chamber Around
K
nown as “the Dream Team,” a group of Wiley College students came to the aid of Marshall Chamber of Commerce, making dreams come true.
“We did not have a working relationship, at the intern level, at the Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce until now. Thanks to Wiley College we have one,” said Bob King, 2015 board chairman. After a season of tough decisions, layoffs and budget woes, the chamber is now back on track, thanks to the creation of an internship program, sponsored by the chamber and Wiley. The two entities partnered up, pooling their resources together to fund the program, which essentially became the chamber’s saving grace. “They came at a time when things were very difficult,” King said, sharing how the chamber wasn’t functioning the last half of last year. “Through volunteers and interns, we were able to keep the chamber doors open and bring us to this point. “The interns have contributed a tremendous amount in that November, December time up to present to keep the chamber open and now to get us ready for 2015, so I can’t say enough,” King said during a reception held recently to honor the interns. “It is because of people like Wiley College, having the foresight to put this program together and allowing these students to be a part of us, that we are up and going today. So you have my heartfelt appreciation and thanks.” Within a three-month period, the interns were able to recoup and collect more than $44,000 in membership fees for the chamber. “Our goal was $40,000 and we’ve collected $44,000, so we’ve exceeded our goal,” Adriane Cornish, a senior accounting major and finance intern, reported at a reception held in their honor, receiving a rousing applause. The internship program began during former board chairman Kris McGee’s term. It was the brainchild of Willie Mae Hughey, a former Wiley employee and chamber board member. “The whole chamber just rallied around and said, ‘I have faith in these students. I think they can do it,’” Hughey said. “God has been good to these students, and as a result of that, God has allowed the chamber to be able to hire two people back,” she said. “It’s because of the work of these students, working with this whole leadership, trying to make a positive difference.” Excerpt from March 2015 article in Marshall News Messenger. SUPPORT THE WILEY COLLEGE UNCF CAMPAIGN
Help Us Continue the Legacy!
“Thank you Wiley family and friends for investing in me. As Miss National UNCF, I have had the opportunity to network with a broad spectrum of business leaders, political figures, and those who have made a difference in the world as you have in my life! It is because of YOU and your financial support of the Wiley UNCF Campaign that we continue a legacy of excellence .” – Kai Scates, 2015 Miss National UNCF and Wiley Senior
You can be the difference in a student’s life!
Support the Wiley College UNCF Campaign and we’ll receive $3 for every $1 you contribute! Wiley College is transforming the lives of students who otherwise would not have an opportunity to secure the promise of higher education. Since 1999, Wiley College has captured the Miss National UNCF Crown twelve (12) times! You can help us make it thirteen (13), with your donation today! Your support of one of our candidates, Taylor or Cecilia, will not only help us reach our annual UNCF goal of $100,000, but will provide one of our candidates an opportunity to compete for the title of Miss National UNCF in February 2016, and increase our possibilities of capturing the Miss National UNCF Crown again!!
Taylor Renea Cooper is a sophomore from Marshall, Texas, majoring in Sociology. She is a member of the renown Wiley College A Cappella Choir, an Emerging Leader and Sophomore Class Vice President. Taylor is a third generation Wileyite as the daughter of Angela Fitzpatrick and the granddaughter of the late Barbara Anderson Marshall. Taylor says, “I am the change I want to see in my school. I am a firm believer in God and with your support, I will be closer to achieving my dream of raising funds for my college.”
Cecilia Salas is a junior from Chihuahua, Mexico, majoring in Business Administration. She is a member of the Women’s Soccer Team and Vice President of the International Club at Wiley. Cecilia is the first international student to compete for Miss UNCF for Wiley College and says “As an international student, I understand the significance of education and value how great the opportunity is that many historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) like Wiley College provide to us through scholarships.”
