Function: Exhibition Size m²: 120 (made bigger so that it when it break out on the top of the small building will be equal in the whole courtyard) Conclusion: + :Having the exhibition room as a double-high room breaking out on the top of the extra small building will make it possitble to be exposed to the publicity and ex. have it in a transparent material so that you can see some of the exhibition from outside. It will also make it possitble to get more natural light lead into the room - : will be different from the other building complex and the long repetition will be “ruined” and the equilibrium of all buildings will be out of balance

Function: Exhibition Size m²: 90 Conclusion: + : having a wider room which has connection to both external walls will make it possible to get more light inside the room having the room in the left side and on the low florrs of the building will make it easy to access the exhibition from outside and as it is close to the staircase also from the upper floors. Having it on the low floors will also make it possible to look inside the room from outside Having a more dark room with less influence from the natural light will make it possible to adjust the light independant of other influences from outside - : having it on the low floors will mean less light going into the room and none big possibilities to make changes which can influence the amount of natural light coming into the room

Function: Exhibition Size m²: 105 Conclusion: + : having the exhibition room on the upper floors will make it possible to get a lot more natural light inside the room and it will also be possible to get even more light inside by opening up to the roof and install windows on the roof. The visitors will be able to injoy the view to the sea Having the exhibition room near the staircase will lead the visitors into the exhibition room without they have to walk into other spaces and maybe interupt other activities - : having the exhibition room which should be accessible to the public on the upper floors will mean that the visitors has to circulate upwards the whole building also the private floors

Function: Exhibition Size m²: 105 Conclusion: Having it wider so that it on 3.rd. floor has contact to both external walls will lead more natural light inside the room and when the room only is in contact to one of the external wall on the 2.nd. floor and leave spaces beside it - it will be possible to access the other part of the building without having the walk through the exhibition room. And as it is down on the 2nd. floor it will also be possible to look inside the room from outside But as it is on the lower floors of the building it will mean a little less natural light because of the shading of the threes and the remaining building.

Workshop

W1

Function: Workshop Size m²: 105 Conclusion: Having the workshop on the upper floors will make it possible to get a lot of natural light inside the room as you have the possibility to open to the roof and add windows Having it as a double-high room will give more space to work within which both can be used to just make the room feel bigger but also to storage of paintings which not is exhibited anymore (cf. Kunstakadamiet Aarhus) As it both is in the right end of the building and on the upper floors it will be very private and with none interuptions from the outside/visitors/the public. The artists will be able to enjoy the view towards the sea. As it is on the right end of the building it will also be possible to give more light to the room by adding windows in the external wall

It will also be very private as it is placed in the right part of the building and on two upper floors. As it is on the right end of the building it will also be possible to give more light to the room by adding windows in the external wall The disadvantage is that there not is a possibility to get light inside the room from the ceiling which will give evenly light in the room.

Function: Individually housing units w. bathrooms + kitchen + 2 seminar rooms Size m²: Housing unit: 25 m² each, seminar room: 25 m² each, kitchen 50 m² Conclusion: Having the housing units on two upper floors and towards the sea make a more private space as you can not acces the space directly from the outside and you can’t look inside the rooms. Having the kitchen and the seminar rooms on the upper floors make it very private (cf. And then having the kitchen on the upper housing floor in the left for all to access no matter where the artist are working in the building - private housing/workshop/exhibition and then at last the seminar rooms on the ground floor which makes it easy for the visitors to access the rooms without interrupting anything.

Combinations

Exhibition - Workshop - Private housing + kitchen and two seminar rooms

E1 + W6 + H2 Conclusion: Having the seminar rooms and the exhibition very accesible on the low floors which make sure that the private housing units not will be interminated and then the workshop on the top opening up to the roof which will create evenly light inside the room and make the space bigger. Furthermore will the artist have the possibility to enjoy the view to the sea. Having the kitchen next to the workshop is very efficient as the artist then are very closed to this common space where they are working. The configuration of the rooms will then be that the rooms gets more public downwards so that the visitors want intermittent any private spaces when they access the public rooms.

E2 + W1+ H1 Conclusion: Having the exhibition in the bottom of the building - easy to acces for the visitors without interrupting any private space. But having the exhibition room on the low floors will also mean that there will be less natural light which both can be good and bad as you after all then have the possibility to adjust the light indenpendantly. Having the housing units in the center makes it easy for the artists to access the other activitites within the building and also makes a private space as the rooms can’t be entered directly from outside or look into the rooms from outside. And then having the kitchen and seminar room on top near the workshop which makes it very easy for the artist to access when they are working but when/if the seminar rooms are going to be open to the public this will mean that the visitors has to walk through the private floors.

Conclusion: Having the exhibition room and seminar rooms on the ground floor makes it possible for the visitors to access the rooms directly from outide and it will be possible to look inside the room from the outside as it is placed towards the courtyard. Having the housing unit devided will make two independant housing floors and then have the workshop and kitchen in between where they will gather but the negative about this will be that the possibilities of opening up in the ceiling to get more light inside will be impossible.

E5 + W4 + H14 Conclusion: Having one part of the housing unit on the ground floor will make it very exposed to the public. Having the workshop in between will make the workshop the center meeting point for the artists but having it on these floors will make it harder to get a good evenly natural light inside the room. Having it breaking out on the top of the small extra buillding in the courtyard in the right side will make it possible to get more light inside and open up towards the courtyard but it will create an unevenly apperance of the building and work against the very significant repetition in the building both in small and larger scale and the light lead into the room will be limited as the remaining building also will shade these floors. Having the exhibition on the top will give the room more natural light which also can be a disadvantage if you want to adjust the light for an exhibition independantly Having the seminar rooms on the 3rd. floor will mean that the public has to go into the private space/area / a private floor

By having the workshop on the 2nd -3rd floor makes it isolated on this floor as the exhibition room will go up to this and thereby you would just have a nice hallway left where you then could enter the workshop from. Having the workshop in the middle it will make it harder to get a good evenly natural light inside the room. Having the private rooms on the top makes them very private but in this configuration they could as well have been placed on 4th - 5th floor and then leave the top floor as a potential space for something else.

E9 + W4 + H32 Conclusion: Having the private floor devided on three floors and placed on the top floors and in the right side will make it even more private and isolated as there is no circulation in this part of the buiding for outcoming. By having the workshop on the 2nd -3rd floor makes it isolated on this floor as the exhibition room will go up to this and thereby you would just have a nice hallway left where you then could enter the workshop from. Having the workshop in the middle it will make it harder to get a good evenly natural light inside the room. Having the kitchen on the 3rd. floor will be efficient in the way that you will be private, not interupt working artists and in between the workshop and the private housing units which will be from where the artists want to access the kitchen.

Conslusion from this investgation The following should be fulfilled by the final configuration of activities/spaces Workshop: - over the exhibition and seminar rooms (the public spaces) - Close to/ on a related floor to the private housing floors to make it easy for the artists to access - On the top to obtain the possibility of getting evenly natural light inside the room Housing units: - Above the exhibition and seminar rooms to make it private and avoid to have any trespasser walking through this private space - In the center to make it easy for the artists to access the remaining activities in the building. - On the 3rd. floor or above so that it will be impossible to look inside this rooms for the public - In the seaside of the building to avoid the exposure towards the circulation in and around the courtyard of the building where it will be possible to look into upper floors as you can look at the house from a distance in contradiction to the seaside where you are prevented from doing this as the threes are blocking. Kitchen: - Close to all activities within the building as it is a place for unformal gathering of both artists and possible visitors - mainly artists - Having it between the public and the private floors makes it possible to be a place where the artists and visitors easily can access and meet each other. Seminar rooms: - Close to the outside - low floors to make it easy to access these rooms directly from the outside and prevent that the outcoming visitors will be intermittent any private spaces. - But also close to the artists as they also will be using these rooms ---> thereby best to have it in between the private and public floors. - At a lower floor will give the advantage that there will be less light coming into the room which could be effecient in this room as they propably will be using digital presentation tools which require less natural light. Exhibition: - On the low floors to make it easy to access this space directly from the outside. - Less light will be coming in when placing it on the low floor which makes the circumstances for an adjustable artificial light better which would be an advantage in this space to adjust it accordingly to the exhibition - In the courtyard side of the building to make it possible to have the possibility to open up to the public and maybe make some of the exhibition visible from the outside.
