More donations for the R.F.D.S

God I love small country towns they’re always friendly and welcoming and are so thankful for the Mantle of Safety that’s always there for them “aka The Royal Flying Doctor Service”

Back in my happy place in Slims Cab, in the last 3hrs I’ve had $320 in donations from servos and people pulling me over to make a donation. Was heading down from a mates beach camp down south of Dongara to Badgingarra, I was taking the Indian Ocean road which I have to say had it’s fair share of lunatics on wheels but as I approached my turn off towards “Badgy” I saw another turn off, just before it ,to a township called Green Head. It may have been a bit of a detour, but I was due and oil check and I always love dropping into theses small country towns. Also, I remembered that from a few months back someone wanted me to call into Badgingarra so I made the turn off and went to check it out.

The main road into the township had these rows of beautiful trees that would have to be over 75 years old for the full 3 or so kilometres on either side heading into town creating an arch of branches well overhead.

I pulled into the general store which was also a servo and was greeted by some happy locals, including a lovely bird called Bev. It was she who had messaged me previously and asked to stop in their small town on my travels and so here I was.

Be a real “Mate”

Make sure that you look after your mates - Treat them all well!.

There are no places for bullies or abusers in this life.

I was invited into the general store and offered a cuppa before one of the ladies asked if she could mention on her Facebook community page that I was shaking my tins at the general store. I said no worries and within a few minutes it seemed like half the town was there making donations, there were stories about what the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia had done for their community over the years.

All in all they probably donated around $200 in notes and coins including Bev who Chipped in a $100 note. She also gave me a big hug.

It’s always nice to be reminded of these small country towns that often have the biggest community spirit out there.

They’re getting harder to find as the older generation passes and the younger generations leave to find work around the cities, but a few still hang in there, the general store owner in this case (who also chipped in a decent donation) was also baking bread for the “village” as he called it. Remember that Dolly would have now turned 20 as her birthday was just a couple of days ago.
