MEOW MEOW CREATOR & PERFORMER Meow Meow has been named one of the ‘Top Performers of the Year’ (The New Yorker), ‘The Queen of Chanson’ (Berliner Zeitung), ‘sensational’ (The Times), and ‘a phenomenon’ (The Australian). The spectacular crowdsurfing tragi-comedienne has hypnotized, inspired, and terrified audiences worldwide from London’s Royal Festival Hall to Lincoln Centre NYC, to the LA Philharmonic, to the Sydney Opera House. Meow Meow specialises in the Weimar repertoire and French chanson and is a prolific original musician and theatre creator for commissioners such as Pina Bausch, David Bowie and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Her theatre works include the award-winning Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl, Vamp, Meow Meow’s Little Mermaid, and concerts Meow’s Pandemonium with the London Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Recently, she appeared in Barry Humphries’ critically acclaimed Weimar Cabaret (Barbican Centre), and in renowned opera star Renée Fleming’s concert series Voices (The Kennedy Center). She performed Reinbert de Leeuw’s jump-cut homage to Schubert and Schumann with the Hebrides Ensemble, played Titania/Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Shakespeare’s Globe), the devil Pegleg in Tom Wait’s Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets (Malthouse Theatre/Victorian Opera), La Maitresse in Michel Legrand and Kneehigh’s The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (West End) and an acclaimed Miss Adelaide in the recent Guys and Dolls with Royal Philharmonic (Royal Albert Hall). She has just finished filming Cats, and her album with Pink Martini bandleader Thomas M. Lauderdale Hotel Amour. Her album includes original songs and duets with Rufus Wainwright, The von Trapps, Michel Legrand, and launched this year with an EU and US tour with Pink Martini, including at the Hollywood Bowl. She recently performed Facade and Die Sieben Todsünden in Berlin under Jurowski, with Blixa Bargeld and Ute Lemper amongst others in a revisioning of Brecht for 2019 (National Concert Hall). She appears next with Apocalypse Meow at BAM’s Next Wave Festival in NYC, and Seattle Symphony.

MICHAEL A BURGER CAST Described by Kate Ceberano as ‘an asset to the cabaret community’, Burger was the recipient of the inaugural Adelaide Fringe Frank Ford Award, Best Cabaret Adelaide Fringe 2019 Weekly Award, Best Cabaret Adelaide Fringe Award and is a two-time Helpmann Award nominee for Best Cabaret Performer. She is the co-writer and star of the highly esteemed stage show Exposing Edith, the life and songs of Edith Piaf. Her recent awardwinning show, A Migrant’s Son which explores migration to Australia, has received critical acclaim; featuring original music by Burger. Burger has performed with one of Broadway’s most sophisticated songwriters, Jason Robert Brown as well as Australia’s own Tyran Park, John Thorn and Paul Capsis. Other performing credits include Rumpelstiltskin (Southbank Theatre London/ Windmill/State Theatre SA), Merry Widow (State Opera SA), Can You Hear Colour? (Adelaide Festival/Patch Theatre), Brel (Adelaide Cabaret Festival) and Cranky Bear (Patch Theatre).

Annie already has an impressive list of credits to her name. She recently performed in the stage hit School of Rock (GWB Entertainment) and The Sound of Music (Gordon Frost Organisation). On screen, Annie was in ABC’s The InBESTigators, which is now streaming globally on Netflix. Annie has been taking singing lessons with Dan Hamill since 2017 and trains at Patrick Studios Australia in ballet, jazz, musical theatre, hip hop, tap and acrobatics. Along with her love of performing, Annie is great at bike riding and swimming, and enjoys bush walking and camping.

Dusty’s professional debut was performing the role of Matilda in Matilda the Musical (Royal Shakespeare Company of London). Joined by her fellow Melbourne and Sydney Matildas, she performed live at the 2016 Helpmann Awards where they were awarded the Best Actress in a Musical. She has appeared in the Melbourne summer production of Wind in the Willows (Australian Shakespeare Company). In 2017 Dusty performed the child lead of Billy in the VCA short film The True History of Billy the Kid and has recently filmed a VCA film, In The Water. Dusty has danced since the age of 3 and trains in voice and various dance styles at May Downs School of Dance under the direction of Renie Ann Martini.

Charlotte is 13 years old and attends Star of the Sea College. She has been singing and dancing since a young age, which includes 7 years of dance and 3 years of musical theatre performance. Select credits include: High School Musical (Star of the Sea College), The Sound of Music (Babirra), Les Misérables (OSMaD), Strictly Ballroom: The Musical and Les Misérables (CLOC). In 2017 Charlotte received a commendation from the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria in the category Junior Performer in an Open Production (Les Misérables). In 2018 Charlotte received a Lyrebird Award nomination for Best Youth Performer—Musical/ Variety (Les Misérables).

Riya is very excited to join the cast of Apocalypse Meow. Riya made her professional debut in 2018 in the production of School of Rock playing Marcy. Riya has always been passionate about performing on stage. Riya is currently training with the Young Australian Broadway Chorus (YABC) and was cast in their musical Shrek Jr. Riya is proudly represented by Centrestage Agency and would like to thank her dance teacher Mietta White, her singing teacher Elizabeth O’Hanlon and her family and friends for their ongoing support.

Dan Witton works in music and theatre. Other work has included bassist in Opera Australia’s The Rabbits, international touring with Jump Lead’s Still Awake Still!, performances with The Wikimen, Saray Illuminado, The Spooky Men’s Chorale, Alma Zygier, The Ennio Morricone Experience, Chamber Made Opera, desoxy Theatre and Anthem for Melbourne Festival.

Michael is a theatre, opera and film director. Michael was Artistic Director of Malthouse Theatre from 2004 to 2011. Amongst many productions, Michael directed for Malthouse Theatre the Australian feature film The Boy Castaways, and an indigenous version of King Lear called The Shadow King, which was performed as part of the Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane Festivals. In 2016 the production played a season at Barbican Centre, London. In 2015 Michael received a Helpmann Award for Direction for The Shadow King. Recently, Michael directed the Australian premiere production of the David Bowie penned musical Lazarus, and is currently working with acclaimed Indonesian film director Garin Nugroho on a new operatic work The Planet–A Lament, to premiere at AsiaTOPA, Arts Centre Melbourne in early 2020.

Jethro Woodward is a Melbourne-based composer, musical director, arranger, musician and sound designer recognised for his expansive and highly layered film, theatre and dance scores. A multi Green Room Award-winner and Helpmann nominee, he has worked with some of Australia’s leading major and independent companies including MTC, STC, Belvoir, MSO, Victorian Opera, Chamber Made Opera, Back to Back, Arena, Windmill, Chunky Move, Lucy Guerin Inc, Australian Dance Theatre, Aphids, Stuck Pigs Squealing, Rawcus, and more. Recent works include Lazarus (The Production Company), Distant Matter (Staatsballett Berlin), Common Ground (Chunky Move/ Dance Massive), Rumpelstiltskin (Windmill/Southbank Centre, London), Paul Capsis & The Fitzroy Youth Orchestra (Sydney Festival), Rita Dreaming (in collaboration with Meow Meow for Sgt. Peppers 50th Anniversary Festival, Liverpool). Jethro has won Green Room Awards for his work on Song for a Weary Throat (Rawcus), For The Ones Who Walk Away (St Martins), The Bloody Chamber (Malthouse Theatre), Moth and Goodbye Vaudeville Charlie Mudd (Malthouse Theatre/Arena Theatre) and Irony Is Not Enough (Fragment 31). In 2018, Jethro was the recipient of the GRAA Technical Achievement Award.

Andrea is based in New York City and produces multimedia experiences with a focus on the human form. Ongoing collaborations include Meow Meow, Pilobolus Dance, NYU Langone Medical Center, choreographer Elizabeth Streb and Amanda Palmer. Lauer’s credits include: Rolling Stone, American Vogue, Interview, Nylon, Paper and Out magazine. Her work has also appeared at the Grammy Awards and in the Broadway productions American Idiot and Bring It On. She is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of RISEN From The Thread a design thinking and innovation agency focussed on the human body and its relationship with technology, and a sustainable jumpsuit line RISEN DIVISON. She was chosen as one of Randi Zuckerberg’s #52Womenin52Weeks, is a 2017 MIT Media Lab Director’s Fellow and is the current science resident at Pioneer Works.

Paul Jackson is a multiaward-winning designer who works across Australia and internationally. Design credits include Solaris, Cloudstreet, Blasted, Melancholia, Bliss, The Testament of Mary, The Real and Imagined History of the Elephant Man, Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets, Away, I Am a Miracle, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Meow Meow’s Little Mermaid (Malthouse Theatre), Love and Information, The Histrionic, The Trial (STC/ Malthouse Theatre), Mary Stuart, True West, The Mysteries: Genesis (STC), Merchant of Venice, Othello, As You Like It, Phedre, Tartuffe, Julius Caesar (Bell Shakespeare), Seventeen, Nora, Oedipus Rex (Belvoir), Arbus and West, Gloria, The Children, Three Little Words, Hay Fever and Di and Viv and Rose (MTC). Paul has received a Helpmann Award, a Sydney Theatre Award, seven Green Room Awards, three Australian Production Design Guild Awards and 31 Green Room Award nominations. He is the current recipient of an Australia Council for the Arts Fellowship. Paul is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and RMIT.

Lisa has worked as a Stage Manager throughout Australia and internationally. Since 2018, Lisa has been the Lecturer in Production (Stage Management) at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). Her Stage Manager credits for Malthouse Theatre include The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets (with Victorian Opera), Away (with Sydney Theatre Company), Blaque Showgirls, Meow Meow’s Little Mermaid, The Shadow King, Love and Information, Calpurnia Descending, Baal (with Sydney Theatre Company), Meme Girls, The Good Person of Szechuan, Night on Bald Mountain, Pompeii, L.A., Blood Wedding and The Wild Duck (with Belvoir). Lisa has worked on productions for leading theatre companies including Chunky Move, BalletLab, Australian Dance Theatre, State Theatre Company of South Australia, Brink Productions and Windmill Theatre, and presentations at major arts festivals including Edinburgh International Festival, Sydney Festival, Perth Festival, Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Brisbane Festival and MONA FOMA.

MATILDA WOODROOFE ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER Matilda is a performance designer with a diverse body of work spanning theatre, dance, performance art, television and film. In her final year of a Fine Arts degree in Production Design, Matilda worked for the first time with the Sisters Hayes, as the design assistant on Walking into the Bigness (Malthouse Theatre). Matilda has worked with a myriad of performing arts companies across Melbourne and Sydney including Sydney Theatre Company, Victorian Opera, Melbourne Theatre Company, Arena Theatre Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre. She also completed a year long Emerging Artist placement with The Rabble in 2016. Her work in film and TV includes Cleverman and Get Krack!n for ABC and feature length dance film, Spear, an Arenamedia, Brown Cab and Bangarra Dance Theatre production. She has recently finished working as part of the wardrobe team for Madman Production Company’s feature documentary, 2040, exploring what our planet’s future might look like if already available environmental solutions were incorporated into the mainstream.
