DEBATING “During term 1, secondary school pupils participated enthusiastically in the house debate competition. Elgar, Foster, Lewis and Sanger all produced compelling arguments both for and against their given topics and pupils representing their houses and were able to display Malvern qualities such as collaboration, risk-taking and resilience as pupils worked in teams of 3 to be victorious in this hugely successful student-led event. All House Captains were able to create and coach their teams during both rounds of the event with great independence and although Sanger were crowned overall champions of the term 1 debate, all pupils left the stage with a sense of pride and accomplishment

I would also like to offer a special congratulations to both Zainab Mohamed and Nada Aly who were able to achieve 30 individual house points for their houses, displaying read leadership qualities. Finally, a special thank you is to be given to Tala Shamia who chaired both debates, meaning this house debate really was created and delivered by the pupils, for the pupils.” Malvern View Issue 10

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

Anti-Bullying Week 2021 took place during the week of the 14th November. This year, for Anti-Bullying Week, the theme was ‘One Kind Word’. This is an annual event which aims to raise awareness of bullying and the impact it can have. Odd Socks Day forms part of the Anti-Bullying Week campaign and by wearing odd socks to school, highlights what makes us all unique. At Malvern College Egypt, pupils were challenged to design a poster, raising an awareness of the theme and highlighting the importance of Kindness. This links to our Malvern Qualities:

KINDNESS Recognising that kindness and consideration are an essential part of a civilised society and a happy community. Acting with compassion and showing empathy towards those in difficulty.

Pupils from both Primary and Secondary submitted entries to the poster competition and we were overwhelmed by the creative messages displayed in these posters. Winning designs were chosen to be printed for display around the College and all pupils’ efforts were rewarded with house points. Other exciting activities that took place during the week were kindness webs, chains of kind words and imaginative sock design. Overall, we are extremely proud of the pupils for demonstrating their kindness and care for their peers and the communication of the powerful anti-bullying message. We look forward to Anti-Bullying week 2022! 20

Where to start!! This year we had 9 amazing performances by our wonderful pupils. Pupils from Years 4,5 and 6 excelled themselves at the British Embassy Carol Concert with many parents, friends and staff supporting our pupils who performed as part of a combined choir of pupils from several international schools in Cairo. This was followed by Pre-Nursery and Nursery pupils performing some favourite Winter themed songs for a very enthusiastic audience of parents. Year 1 performed superbly in the mini-musical ‘Snowman at Sunset’ and even ‘made’ a snowman on stage. They performed very convincingly as a group and the soloists sang beautifully. Reception sang a range of winter songs with great energy and confidence. The Year 2 mini-musical, ‘Eddie the Penguin Saves the World’ shared a very relevant reminder that we should all take care of our planet through song and action. Year 6 pupils narrated both the Year 1 and Year 2 musicals, adding to our enjoyment of the plays.

Malvern View Issue 10

Years 4 to 6 entertained parents with traditional festive songs in the Piazza while parents mingled and enjoyed some festive food and drink. Again, pupils from Year 6 introduced the songs and year groups showed great maturity and spirit.

On the final day of term, it was the MCE staff who took to the stage, entertaining pupils with Carols in the foyer. A wonderfully positive end to a busy term.

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide our pupils with extraordinary experiences during their school day, we offer our pupils a variety of co-curricular activities that focus on their development in all aspects from the educational to the Physical & Recreational aspects. Co-curricular activities are vital because even though they are not a part of the core curriculum, they play a very crucial role in giving our pupils the ability to mould their lives to become well-rounded people. We introduced new varieties of CCA’s such as Model United Nations (MUN), Robotics, Computer Coding, Classical Ballet,Social Marketing , Debating ,Psychology, Astronomy, and Space Club.
