Dedication ~LOVE COMFORTETH LIKE SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN~ These words originate from Shakespeare’s first published work, the poem “Venus and Adonis,” and still ring true, like many of the thousands of words invented by Shakespeare. Love does bring us comfort in times of strife. And so, we dedicate this book of original “Shakespearean sonnets” to all of our Malvern Community family as we quarantine at home during this COVID19 pandemic. May the written voices of our many freshmen bring you smiles and joy during this difficult time.

A Natural Beauty By: Joaquin Alban A blessing given to us from above
The shiny light and Selene’s dark of night
The gentle breeze from trees keeps me in love Changing seasons, such a beautiful sight
The nature of us and how we were made A wonder never to be understood
The beautiful green trees perfectly staid
Nature’s marvel bring back my childhood Yet ever changing, always on the move
My place of ease is always the outdoors A natural beauty to never remove
I’d rather be outdoors than doing chores
We must keep nature as clean as can be
The home of all life, we can all agree

Spring
By Sue Giordani
The aspens stand - tall sentinels in line
With wind’s slight whisper through their budding greens, Who shimmer casting shadows oh so fine This path in nature - bright with many scenes. The daffodils do tout their trumpets proud Announce spring’s welcome crisp and bright cool air, And through blue skies the robin sings so loud To call, a sweet song melody, a prayer. We lean upon her song like an old friend Whose words of wisdom raise a calming beat, Reminding us that Mother Earth will mend When all we feel around us is defeat. So feel the warmth of sunshine on your face As Gaea2 mends your soul with Her sweet grace.
2
Gaea (Greek mythology) is the goddess/personification of Earth and all that is beautiful in it

A Piano’s Beauty By: Sebastian Stewart
The sound of the piano is so nice It goes to bring me to the brink of tears It goes to melt a heart of stone-cold ice And those who hear will always give a cheer The writers of the songs are just so great They go to make a pretty work of art Then those of young to will go to recreate The works of art that do not fall apart Piano is not hard to master now There are teachers that will educate you With e ort it will be useful to thou And thou will look back to see how thy grew Piano is a work of art itself To bring joy to others and to thyself

Spring By Michael McGrory The gentle winds drift through the blades of grass While birds sing songs of merriment and joy Flamboyant trees run through the large landmass This is the season that we all enjoy Young children scamper all around the park With faces gleaming like the fresh flowers Extending day reducing all the dark Sprouting new plants up like they’re bugs towers But hear the sweet crack of Bryce Harper’s bat A sound that fills thy soul with pep and thrill And thou shalln’t keep your eyes from looking at These traits that other seasons can’t fulfill What time of year can make thy worries small? Tis’ Spring which brings the good out of us all

Freedom’s Opportunity By: Carson Myers As they did fight for us and not themselves We take the pleasure of a sunny day They never hung their helmets on the shelves They keep on fighting while we sit and pray And for their families, we know they so yearn To hold them close and hug them in rejoice And while they yearn we stay in class to learn Their courage heard, unheard does go their voice We use our voices with no fear of death And here at home each year we cast our vote While they, away, fight for their final breath These words flow on to leave you with a note Thanks to the men and women who stand front We have these freedoms to do as we want

Lust or Love By: Billy Yacovelli What I am feeling, is it lust or love The answer seems to ever elude me I can’t tell if it is a snake or dove Am struck by Satan or Aphrodite I try to ponder this to no avail Even if I’m the Adam to her Eve They too fell short in their terrible fail Alas, is sin or salvation that be But what I do not know is that it is Already known, if it was love it would Not be a choice, I would not need a kiss To show me what we are or ever could For love, feeling is not, it is a choice So now let's hope that people hear my voice Malvern’s Book of Sonnets 2020 11
Liturgical Lacrosse By Cullen Lotz
The whistle blows and the game has begun It is well known as a one bullet war Get the bullet while running in the sun It moves swiftly through the air when you score The exhausting heat is tiring me But I will never stop moving my feet Sweat starts to drip, I am wet like the sea But the dedication can not be beat Time is winding down and the game is tied I attack the goal and do a quick spin “Shoot the ball right now!” my coach loudly cried The ball hits the net, my team gets the win It is over now, victory is ours We celebrate, then off to the showers

An Angel From Heaven By: Xander Little From the heavens above came an angel Her voice like the land from which she came from Perfect from every side, every angle She saved me from my neverending glum Her touch so tender, her beauty divine Her eyes so peaceful, her hair glowing gold So loving, so caring, thoughtful and kind She is so daring and so very bold Summer’s day is not as pretty as her She makes anybody ever so grateful Stunning is just one word to describe her But there’s also fair, lovely, and graceful I have found my angel and so should you True angels from heaven come in few

Nature’s Love By: Michael Geary
I laid my eyes upon a pleasing scene The crisp, fresh air coursed all its way through me I gazed around and grasped the stunning green The blue and white pure like the clouds and seas Now soon as suddenly the blue eclipsed
Light white shown down gleaming through all about Chirping crickets like chime a baby’s cry Silent globe now slowly all fell unbound Yet the bright crack of light now stilled the peace The dawn waking ready to now move on Zestful ground rise likewise all now released Now Ra blazing bright light through all upon Grasping now life flowing throughout quite me I know I feel the love of all I see

Fr dom Heights By: Cole Watts A place to call in which not all be gone For those now not who helped create our land We see the flag as soon as morning dawn To those before not to say one command The chains released as soon as we arrive Depart from trace to those we owed before A feel in which there is nothing to fear To change the dreams for all who will endure No man shall press to those with not a hope A chance to change for those who may be wrong Your bounds are washed away by freedom soap A place where speech and thoughts are just as strong The chance to change that will be for the poor The peace and love to all who will endure

More Than a Game By: Jack Filograna The heavy rain pours down upon the field The smell of the fresh cut grass now sits and reeks The smell so natural makes people now yield But me, I stay because baseball gods speak The murky squish of mud goes right through cleats I try to be fair, clean as soap can be Unlike Houston Astros who did so cheat Ball is love, and love it without a fee But even as Phoebus rides the red sky I cherish the moments because I say That one day I will have to do goodbye And with that, my joy will be ripped away So I now say, remember those great points, And later your life will not disappoint

Swells By Dylan O’Connor
A swell that came about from the unknown Creating wondrous waves, none the same Although the sets show the same flowing tone Over these beautiful waves we proclaim The steep, the shallow, the large, and the small Each rider has their own di erent trait We savor those who rise and those who fall And the wave will come for which I can’t wait Each wave reminds me of a flowing book Brining di erent wonders page by page Landing on the shore, my body is shook But I will not give up on this big stage And these waves cause a needy infection For the pursuit of unfound perfection

Music To My Ears By William Hicks
Transcendent, powerful noise to my ear that enchants me throughout the entire day Music is a euphoria all hear When Apollo is in the sky, it plays
Its striking sound whisks me into a dream Focuses as much as a microscope Notes as numerous as a paper ream Offers a way to relax and to cope
And bringing many backgrounds together Styles as diverse as a rainforest As its greatness is heard in the aether. All can enjoy it, even the poorest
Lessons hidden in itself, it teaches Hear the music that brings joy, it preaches

Time’s Punishment By Alex Daoud In an old, lifeless tree falls one last leaf, Taken by him, the taker of our breath, Moves like a swift shadow, steals like a thief His lips when they touch one, send one thy death We cannot now touch this wicked being, Yet touches us before our life is done Humans attempt to escape by fleeing Yet we cannot outrun what cannot run Sitting in his deceitful throne of lies Perching on his chair watching our whole lives When father time starts to chime, a soul dies At the fall of thy leaf, the time arrives I tell you now what I wish I had known It will come for you all, as I have shown

The Sound Of Life By Kevin Clark Music has been around all throughout time Never failing to bring light to our world Even with the simplest of rhyme Forever remains precious as a pearl Music can bring you to times in your life Like a summer day on a cold winter day Even memories of you and your wife Filling your soul as you begin to sway A world without music is very cold The comfort of a deep melodic guitar gone Along with every great artist turned old
Sound binds people together like no other Keeping us together as sister and brother So love it. Because it gives life color.

Life Behind Closed Doors By: Aiden Brill
Am I the one who everyone must know? They crowd around me when I’m on the street And swarm me like bees everywhere I go Achieving all this fame cannot be beat
My lavish life is my Achilles heel My money greener than a kale smoothie It makes me happier than any meal My fame is like a soothing jacuzzi
However, fame is not what matters most Your family and your friends are what you need Sometimes this fame will turn them into ghosts To keep them close is always quite the deed
Do not let fame o’ertake your own dear life It serves as a temptation, not a wife

The Love of the Game By Charlie Oschell
With my crooked hat and glove on my hand I catch the baseball my dad throws to me Where I dreamed of when my life will be grand3 People will go miles just to come and see Hitting home runs and rounding the bases Making the plays like I'm Derek Jeter The fans have big smiles on their faces Not backing down when Cole4 throws his heater Baseball took me from a kid with a dream To a man with a deep love for a game You are like basketball to big Hakeem5 You took my dreams and towered them up tall I respect you too much to keep playing My body just cannot keep going on The young kid in me wants to be staying But the time has come for me to be gone For me, baseball was like a golden ray But as we all know, nothing gold can stay.6 3
Allusion: Grand Slam Garret Cole: A Yankees pitcher that throws the baseball with remarkable velocity. 5 Hakeem Alajuwon: Rockets basketball player that is considered one of the best big men of all time. 6 Allusion: Robert Frost poem uses this line. 4

Run to Win
By Jake Marrone
A fresh new start for an untrained athlete, Unlocking nonexisting off course paths. My love for running is more than a treat. I start without knowing the aftermath. The day I went to one single practice, Cross country became a pain in my life. Not for the clear reason like a cactus, Yet, I did fall in love with all the strife Which motivates me to be the very best. My first race, Belmont, hurt from toes to face With a hill tall and steep like Everest. I cross the line to finish, slowing pace. My human body has many limits, So I must test them on my short visit.

Nature’s Calming
By: Will Aprahamian
Snow cascades atop the swaying saplings As fawns stride peacefully, leaving a trace I walk along the forest, dreaming things With chilling winds whipping against my face Knowing not the end of this long pathway Nature seems to soothe the minds of many Clearing us of the stresses of today Winter snow makes me feel unlike any But problems of today are always here Turning good lives to Scrooges all around Calming methods need to always appear Like tranquil snow assists me to calm down Whatever stress that comes of busy life Nature can help to soothe your heavy strife

Escape by the Sea By Wyatt Foy
I love the feel of sand beneath my feet
The strong smell of saltwater in the air Toes begin to burn because of the heat Listening to crashing waves everywhere
I sense the immense ocean all around
As I happily ride the waves into shore
Seashells like the crescent moon can be found Eyeing dolphins swim, and seagulls explore
Endless activity surrounding me
Boating, fishing, and lying in the sun In the vastness of nature and beauty
Many things to do till the day is done
The freedom and joy we feel by the sea We should all seek to find tranquility

Love of the Game By: Jack Stead
The scent of fresh cut grass and moistened sand The taste of sunflow’r seeds are simply grand The quick snap of the ball that hits your glove It is a passion that I truly love The crowd, it screams and chants your name with pow’r So always cherish every single hour I don’t know why I love the game so much A double play is so extremely clutch The way the game is played can not be beat To hear them cheer to KJ is a treat Baseballs are a little piece of magic When one does quit the game it’s so “tragic” This game will always stay close to my heart The game and I will never be apart

The Apple Tree By Bryce Pippin The Apple tree stood in the morning breeze Leaves and branches shake and flap like a wing Trunk Stood like a statue, seemed to be freezed The warm weather and the rain of spring Helped the apples grow fast and prosper Red like a rose and like an orange juicy The apples grew and the tree did too The tree and the apple are thought deadly These, however, were not the forbidden fruit Fall came and the leaves ceased to remain The apples fall from the head to the boot The tree with no leaves and snow came from rain The change from green to brown had been very bold Winter comes, the tree now endures the cold

Down the Shore By: Sean Maguire
The dawn of June, when all the fun begins School is out, and three months of adventure Going down the shore, and spotting shark fins Eating ice cream, that works as a quencher Smelling the salt from the endless ocean Feeling sand in your toes and seeing shells Sunny skies, which requires much sun lotion Fudgy Wudgy man comes and rings his bell But, at eight o’clock, the hot sun descends The sky as colorful as a rainbow Now a chilly night to enjoy with friends Getting ice cream, chilly as winter snow Summer is over, it's now September Having great memories to remember

By: Jacob Leinhauser Your beat drifts on the waves like a surfer The lyrics tell a tale as old as time There is not only one that I prefer With the crescendo hear the music climb Classical or Disco they're all the same I wouldn't give to listen once again This is the wood that fuels this era’s flame I will listen as I walk down the lane On radio I find your presence waning People talking without your rhyme or verse All my joy and happiness is draining If this won’t end I think I’ll need a nurse Worlds of silence I’m longing for abyss Where there is music to give me it’s bliss

Blaming Fame By: Dylan Regan Wanting this from the time I could first see, Always encountering our joyful cheers Wishing one day the spotlight will show me. Until it came, yearning for my old years. They came like gnats, bugging me ‘til I break Fights for favors like doctors for a cure. Running, hiding from the fans just like Drake Keep my family safe, I am unsure. Changing my number once or twice a year, Yet Questions, consults, await my voicemail. Photos I never seen taken appear, Privacy is not a right on my trail. Once night appears, I dream like a young child, Thinking and wanting the life in the wild.

The Ghost’s Influence Kevin Jackson The deadly ghost inspires me to write How I hate how you are quiet and fast Invading my mind throughout the dark knight Always thinking about the scary vast Some might compare it to a crazed demon But I think it more of a dark omen The beast’s dark eyes brought me to a screamin’ I thought what made this beasts life so broken I turned myself away from the darkness Hoping to stay on the path of the light The beasts opened my eyes to the clearness I then realized he lived his life in fright I told him he doesn’t need to be scared Because I knew that his life would be spared

Unknown Love By: Tommy Moul
A love so great has come and passed unkept Behind where many mys’tries may have laid Beyond the eyes and cries of which have wept But few did know, and now they’ll have no aid In keeping truth in trust, to their beloved It was a difficult path to partake Erasing once was thought to be unloved
With chi’ld they would always lay awake Detachment from reality was all To do when all the work was to be had Waiting the months, summer, winter, and fall Nine, to be exact, missed by all a tad The’ll come back to reality in mind Of that which was done to appease mankind

On The River By Steven Getsie
We rise this morning by the riverbank, The last coals from the nights’ fire still burning: I walk to the boat to fill the gas tank; At camp, the eggs for breakfast are turning. We eat up and hurry down to the shore; Firing up the engine, getting on plain, The winds breeze in your face, asking for more, Gazing at the gorgeous mountain terrain. But not all days are like this mint morning; Winds roaring with rain that rips at your skin, Theses misfortunes come without a warning; And if you're lucky, you’ll see a tail fin. The days that bring beauty are to die for, And on these days you fish a whole lot more.

Fear of the Unknown by Tucker Kinne
The moon shined bright from up upon the sky While the clouds looked dark and gloomy above. People scurried as they quickly dashed by As they scramble to find the ones they love, Like desperate soldiers running from combat The people stay within their quiet home Like a mouse hiding from a hungry cat. Husbands comfort children while they’re alone Since it all started from just a sick bat. Intense fear helps us make the correct choice, So, be prudent, and do what you are told. If you have trouble, follow your own voice, And stay inside; don’t try to be that bold. Think, be wise, or your fate shall be foretold.

The Beach By Dillon O’Connor
The beach, you have stolen my train of thought. Now, you are all I am thinking about. I have many glimpses with you I caught. I know you are the finish to my route. I can’t wait to spend the summer with you and feel and touch the warm sand loved by all. There are many things we are yet to do But, still wait for spring and winter to fall. The beach, you are my beautiful Snow White. The ocean sparkles as if it’s a ring. I know you will be there from day to night ‘Cause you are our rock, our stone, and our king. Our beach, you are yet to have been beaten. And, you are where me and friends will meet in.

“Quarantined” By Jack Furey My days are lonely and isolated The dull Sunny and bleak days pass and go Unknown freedom has made me frustrated Outside is an adventure to bestow
Who would have thought a house could be a cell This mysterious virus spreads so quick And striking swift you could not stop and tell Being exposed to it you became sick
As the days pass my worries do not rest A chance of freedom begins to shrivel This house beginning to feel like a test The burdens I carry make me cripple
A knock at the door is this my freedom There my heart begins to beat like a drum Malvern’s Book of Sonnets 2020 47

Open Doors
By Wyatt Costantino
Love is a bunch of open wooden doors A many doors to open and just choose Some falling short onto the wooden floors And many still try to find their lover too These doors are there to help explore the world And learn it like the backyard of your home Love is like the ice cream flavor swirled Need all for sweetness like a honeycomb And now that you have just explored that door There is a gate that looks for all of you To find what you need just look at the core And you’ll find the Lord who lets you through And love is like a brand new just bought bed There forever even after you’re dead Malvern’s Book of Sonnets 2020 50
Malvern By: AJ Nikolic A place known in Malvern where I will go Where young men learn the ways of brotherhood Hope for friends but I was scared on the low Like a rock, it was hard to become good As months went by I shattered the hard rock This place was great and we are all brothers I was happy and I beat the roadblock Soon I needed to branch out to others I did branch and this year is like lightning Freshman year is a sour patch kid It’s sour then sweet which is very frightening In the way start, I was scared and timid Malvern Prep is like a cool summer’s day No one would have it any other way

Death's Kiss By Logan Kelley
Each day alive we sprint from mortal touch Th'’embrace of her who's never given up It’s she who kicks the life we hold, our crutch With no regard if you're young or've grown up Every man is fated to hold her name Sweet or bitter, her lips never lie All will fall beneath her poison reign Whether good or bad, none will stay high And yet her kiss takes us to new life She guides us to greatness, paradise Taking away the toils, pain and strife Though feared as foul, she sits stunningly nice Don't run in fear or go and seek her crime But slowly walk, and she’ll find your time Malvern’s Book of Sonnets 2020 54
One True King By Patrick Mears
I do not want to eat your chicken soup, You can’t make me eat or you’ll face my cries; It looks like garbage and it tastes like poop. Bring me to the palace of the king’s prize! See someone in McDonald’s? Yell, “Stop her!” Get me ice cream from that working machine. Get me a Burger King meal: a whopper. I want chicken nuggets or I’ll be mean. I need all the chicken fries you have now, Number fifteen, Burger King foot lettuce; Please, I just want food. Don't call me a cow. Don’t ever run out, you will upset us. Burger King, better than any other. Get some, I’ll think of you as a brother.

Football Sonnet By Carter Hilton It is a crisp and chilly day in fall The sun is high in the sky and shining The only thing to be heard is a bird call And the sound of engines firing There is only one thing that matters now It was hard to get up early this day It will be worth it in the end somehow Now the only thing to do is to play The game is a long and we struggled The team decides they need to dig deeper Offense and defense were always juggled When everything was done we were the victor
We beat all the odds and somehow succeeded When the season was over we were undefeated
