Christian Service Trips Resume

Malvern Students Complete Seven Christian Service Trips

Over 130 Malvern Juniors and Seniors completed seven Christian Service trips this year to various cities across the United States, including Flagstaff, AZ, New Orleans, LA, and Talcott, WV. These trips marked the first time students have traveled for Christian Service since the start of the pandemic.

Students spent time preparing meals at a Food Bank in Flagstaff, volunteering with the Louisiana Coastline Project, working on a sustainable farm at Bethlehem Farm, helping the surrounding communities through a variety of projects around town, and so much more. When they were not performing service projects, they were able to explore their beautiful surroundings and delve into the history of the community.

The students documented their adventures via blog posts each day. These posts included reflections on their service experience, commentary, and photos of their downtime experiences and activities. Juan Carlos Catania ‘23 shared, “Today was one of the most eye-opening days I’ve ever had. Going to one of the wonders of the world is truly incredible, especially spending the time to walk around with your brothers. The second I got to see an overlook of the whole Grand Canyon showed me how amazing our planet is and how important it is for us to take care of it as it does for us. It gave me a deeper thought of my purpose when I first left Pennsylvania to come to Arizona.”

Christian Service is an integral part of the Malvern Prep experience. These trips not only give our Friars the opportunity to travel but oftentimes allows them to work directly with people in need in various parts of the country. Jimmy Jacobs ‘23 noted, “Looking at some people’s living conditions made me realize how truly fortunate I really am back home.”

Ms. Teresa Lohse, Director of Global Programming, shares that her hope is to “offer a selection of international trips in addition to a few domestic trips. The key is to make wise decisions in conjunction with others to ensure that we are setting our students and chaperones up for successful experiences.” mp
