EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH VERONICA BELLI
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
Since I was a child, I have always been attracted to art, fashion, photography and reading. Everything that surrounds me was, and still is for me, a source of inspiration.
My course of study began in a professional tailoring school, which did not give me the results I hoped to obtain, however. For this reason, after a few years of working in a clothing boutique, I decided to continue my studies and specialize in fashion styling.
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
In the historical moment we are experiencing we certainly have more difficulties and precariousness than in the past. Everything can change from moment to moment and this makes organizing and producing a photo shoot more complex. Despite this, I think that in life there will always be obstacles to overcome and the only thing to do is to continue to believe in what you want and give it everything to make it possible.
What do you want to achieve through fashion?
Surely, my biggest ambition is to tell something through my projects. I would like that those who look at them could experience a little journey in my world and feel represented or inspired by what they see. In my own little, I hope to leave a unique and recognizable mark.
Are there particular issues within the fashion industry that concern you? If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
One of the main problems of the fashion industry is the environmental and social impact that it produces. If I could change something, I would establish mandatory guidelines to follow, which respect more the environment and the workers.
In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?
As I said, I believe that everything that surrounds us, from art, to music or photography, contributes to making us learn something new. My favourite way to learn is to travel. Through this experience, you can discover new cultures, broaden your vision and understand different realities. In my opinion, this is the best way to enrich my culture and my knowledge and it is a constant source of inspiration.
What's the most important thing you want your potential clients to know about you?
That I am an ambitious and meticulous person. When I have to finish a task, I want to achieve a result that makes me proud, but also follows the directives. I have a sunny and optimistic personality, but I don’t give up easily in the face of difficulties, on the contrary, I always have a solution.
If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?
Always believe in your dreams and work hard to achieve them!
What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?
I am only at the beginning of my career, so I hope to have many different experiences in my future. I can't wait to get back to travel, to be able to collaborate with new artists and never stop learning. My favourite thing about this job is that it allows you to reinvent yourself every day and push yourself beyond your limits, giving you the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ERVISA MICUKAJ
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
My name is Ervisa, I was born in Albania and I moved to Italy when I was 8 years old. I always have been attracted to beauty since I was a child. In fact, when my mum was doing her makeup I was staring at her, trying to catch her tips and then I was stealing her products to recreate the same makeup on my friends. The years passed by and when I was attending high school I dropped this passion because my parents pushed me to follow another path, in fact, they wanted me to attend the university. So I did and it was a great time, I had the chance to travel, meet new people, but when I started working for a company and sitting the whole day in front of my pc, that was the moment where I realized I was missing something, so I started to feel empty and to regret the path I chose.
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
Now because of the Covid, you have to be careful about what you use and how you use it, your palette has to be sanitized every time, your brushes need to be cleaned and you have to sanitize your hand each time you touch a different face or model. Even before, you were paying attention to the hygiene aspect, but right now, you have to be even more careful. Moreover, you have to work with the mask, the visor and sometimes it gets difficult to breathe.
What do you want to achieve through fashion?
I love art and fashion and, in my opinion, art is the secret ingredient that can push all the makeup artist to express their self and understand the period that brought us here, the makeup history that has built our beauty routine across those days. In addition, I want to learn and discover each day new things, I want to look at an Aquarium and invent makeup, return back home, drawing it on paper and then reinvent it on a model’s face, that is my main purpose each day, discovering and creating.
What's the most important thing you want your potential clients to know about you?
I love colors that is my main expression of makeup. I want to let them know, that is fine to use them “the less is more, but more is okay”. In fact, you don’t have to be afraid to dare, you don’t have to be afraid of pushing yourself through your limits, facing them, and creating new things. It’s fine to be inspired, indeed my point of reference is Morgane Martini, she knows how to use colors and she has created tons of beauty makeup that are amazing.
If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?
If you want to enter this industry you have to study, you need to know the history of art, you need to know the photographers, the models, the history of the brands. And the most important thing you need to recognize good products and how to apply them to the model's skin.
What's been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
My biggest highlight till now is recognizing my passion at 28 years old and started to follow and realize it, follow your dream, make it come true, make it become your job and you won’t work a day as they use to say.
What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?
I feel that right now because of the pandemic restrictions, I feel a bit stuck in my space. I wish that this entire situation will finish soon, I want to know new people, such as makeup artists to share and learn from them, I want to travel and discover new realities and get in touch with brilliant minds.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH CONSUELO RINALDI
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I’m Consuelo, I’m 21 and at the moment I am attending the fashion and communication academy ‘Moodart Fashion School’ in Verona. I have always had this passion; in fact, my grandmother passed it to me when I was 6, through her sewing machine. At the age of 18, I moved to Mantua to ¬finish my fashion and design studies and after graduation, I chose to deepen this my passion. I have always been a determined and curious girl and thanks to this academy, I have known my style and myself.
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
I come from a course of study in which it prevails history of costume and the making of garments. I have always liked making and sewing clothes, but in the last period, I have understood the importance of fashion communication and the message we want to convey, while maintaining our identity.
What do you want to achieve through fashion?
I am lucky because I have always had the opportunity to follow my greatest passion, but I have also made many sacrifi¬ces. Arrived up here I don't want to stop because I want to realize myself: my future starts from here.
Are there particular issues within the fashion industry that concern you? If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
One of the problems most discussed in the last period is fast fashion and, closely connected, are the theme of the environment and the price that the industry has on it: discarded textiles are not always easily disposable. Synthetic or inorganic materials damage the ecosystem and are di cult to degrade. Fortunately, today, sustainability is a value shared by many brands and industries.
In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?
During the quarantine, not having the possibility to move from home, I looked for inspiration on different platforms. I made money from everything that surrounded me in my home, drawing inspiration above all from various movies, TV series, and books. These habits still accompany me, because, in my opinion, we must learn to observe carefully what surrounds us.
What's the most important thing you want your potential clients to know about you?
A potential client of mine must know that Consuelo will never abandon her elegant, refi¬ned, but also a little spicy and dynamic style. Fashion is the best art form of expression.
If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?
Passions are born for a reason. It’s necessary not to stop at appearances, but to make the most of any opportunity. It’s also important to be humble but to have self-con¬fidence in order to make every experience personal baggage. Fashion is a world to discover.
What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?
At the moment I am quite busy with some projects to be carried out within the academy: I'm indulging in a different photoshoot on sets, from advertising to still life. Once I have completed my thesis in June, I am ready to get involved and launch into new adventures.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
With Ildiko Sopronfalvi
FoLLow yoUr dreamS ILdIko
Tell us about the development process that culminated in the artist you are today.
I began with landscape photography 5 years ago but people were missing from my photos. I met a lot of models, makeup artists, singers, and stylists in the photography school where I studied photo design. I began to organize photo shooting and to work with people in the team. From my main job I have learned organizing because I am a project manager in the building industry. As a photographer, you should know how to lead the team how to handle people and sometimes you have to play psychology as well. It is very important how to speak to the model because it looks immediately in the photo.
What made you get into photography?
My main job is civil engineering and I always missed creativity in my job. In the way of looking for creativity, I began to study photography at the Academy Deutsche Pop in Stuttgart, in Germany 4 years ago. It was love at first sight, I wanted to learn everything about photography. I make photos from passion and love.
How hard has it been establishing yourself in the industry and what are some of the largest things you've faced?
There are a lot of photographers nowadays, that's why is very important to be special and to create new things and different photos than the others. I have a special style that's why I could go ahead step by step. The largest thing was for me to have my own photo exhibition on the topic of environmental fashion last year and the cover story in Inspades Magazine in 2017.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever gotten and do you follow it? Follow your dreams and believe in yourself.
How do you prepare your new shootings?
I first prepare my concept/idea for the photo shooting and I make a mood board. I select the model, it is very important that the model like the concept and wants to do it. I like to work together with different fashion designers they prepare clothes and jewelry for the shootings, I define the color, styling, textures, background, location, etc. Normally it takes 3-4 weeks to organize a fashion photo shooting and I have to find out every little detail.
28 Fashion & Beauty | March 2021
What would you say is your style of photography?
I like to play with colours, textures, mood. My style is to show emotions but with playing fashion tools. I like to make portraits, to show human, fine art like a style.
If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?
You should follow your dreams. If photography is your dream job you should never give up and always go ahead, it is a hard job. I wanted to give up several times but
I cannot live without photography. Without endurance and some obsession you cannot archieve it.
How would you describe yourself at work in so many years of career?
I have always lot of ideas and concept in my head. I like projects they give more or they have something to say. I am maximalist, hardworking, have endurance and never give up. At photoshooting I prepare all details before we start and I go ahead according the concept. I finish the shooting only if I have the picture!
What are your goals for the near future and do you have any exciting projects you want to share with us?
My first goal is to make photography for my main job. I have several projects in my head, but I prepare the next collection for my next photo exhibition in topic different cultures. I would like to show how amazing are different cultures and traditions but to show them in the world of fashion.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH OLIVER KELLER
Passion was rekindled in the early 1990s. As a long time advocate of analog photography bought my first digital camera in 2006. I quickly learned to appreciate the wealth of creative opportunities that came with it.
I got the basis for digital processing at several workshops and master courses. And I never stopped learning, so I still retouch most of my pictures myself because I love developing the workflow from the idea to the finished picture. This was the moment when it became very clear to me in which direction my photographic development should go. So I learned the basics of studio photography and studied the different ways to set the light. Since 2014 I have also been running my own photo studio between Hamburg and Bremen
How did you discover your passion for photography?
I didn't need to discover it, it was always there, even as a teenager in times when there were no cell phones, we in our clique always had an analog camera with us to capture special moments. And you thought a little longer before you pressed the shutter release, because films and development were expensive. ;-)
How would you describe yourself at work in so many years of career?
As a team player! I love working with people because working in a team and the mutual creative inspiration that goes with it are very important to me. It's just a lot of fun developing ideas in a team.
Basically, I have to say first that I was lucky not to have been affected myself, and nobody in my close environment is seriously ill either. In many ways, the pandemic has changed the way we look at things. You will realize how important small things that are taken for granted that are currently not possible can be. For example, a warm hug.
Unfortunately, many jobs did not take place. But I also tried to make a virtue out of necessity. For example, I wrote to designer friends and they made mouth and nose masks for me in special and exclusive designs, which we then used for a beauty editorial. And of course I felt restricted in my personal environment.
But that is a fate that affects us all now.
Please share a few fun facts about yourself that probably most people don't know about you.
The loss of loved ones
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?
Leave the commercial apprenticeship and plunge into creative life immediately ;-)
That's a really tough question! I am by nature a very humorous and positive thinking person. There is always a lot of laughter and fun in my environment. So actually everyone knows my silly sides. I also like to laugh at myself. That's how I like to do crazy self-portraits. I then used one of them, with a wig and false teeth, on a Facebook profile and wrote to my best friend under a false name. It took me a while to unmask myself. The correspondence was weird to scream.
Tell us about the development process that culminated in the artist you are today.
What do you think is the hardest thing in your life you've ever had to overcome?
How has the covid-19 pandemic affected your art and business this year? How do you feel about the current situation?
What do you think the biggest misconception about you is?
I can't say, actually I've never received negative feedback. At least none that had to make me think. Of course, some people in our industry have been offended when I have to give them a rejection for a project, but when I explain myself it usually ends positively. My background confirms it to me. Honest self-reflection is very important to me. I also have great friends who would tell me if something was going in the wrong direction with me.
What are your future plans/goals for the next couple of years?
To develop farther contacts to creative minds, be it stylists or make-up artists and of course art directors in order to develop new ideas and implement them together. Become even more successful, but always remain realistic and on the ground. Always myself, always be true to myself.

Please briefly tell us about your background. Who is Aleksandra Liubimova as a model?
I joined my first model agency at the age of 15, but all the agents asked to loose weight , I believed I didn’t need it and didn’t want to be too skinny , so I stopped and came back only when I had my last year at the university, I was 21. Again I was asked to loose weight which I did and it helped to start international career. I was with BaseModels in London, my mother agency was Select , I was modeling in Europe , Russia, Asia, India , Lebanon, USA, so almost everywhere . For now I’ve never been to Spain, Germany and Australia , also Japan. My favorite jobs were for Avon, NewLook, Cosmo and some shows for NYC FW and LFW.
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a model?
First time I realized that I want to be a model when I was about 10, I was very skinny and tall, everybody in my school called Claudia Schiffer.
As a model, is it difficult to get past the more superficial aspects of beauty and social media?
For now I’m also running my blog in Instagram about modelling . I think everybody got used to my content , that I’m very dedicating with every picture I post. Now it’s common to post natural face and body features and I’m happy about it.
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?
If I could go back to the age when I was 15, I probably would ask myself to loose weight , and didn’t wait so long as I did.
What do you think is the hardest thing in your life you've ever had to overcome?
The hardest thing in modeling is sometimes to be separated with your family. Also it’s hard to believe in yourself as a model when very few people do. I didn’t have much support in my modeling mostly people told me I wasn’t good enough .
How would you describe yourself at work in so many years of your career?
For me best description is fashion commercial model. As I love both fashion and commercial directions
Do you have an all-time favorite photographer from your career?
For now my favorite photographer is Anna Kirikova , I trust her taste as myself. I also had a dream to work with Lev Efimov and I did , he is one of the best fashion photographer in Russia. For now I really want to work with Mavrin and Ruslan Pelykh
Describe your perfect day off when you are not modeling?
Favorite day off is to go out with my beloved ones, meet with friend , to see and experience something new, to go to nice restaurant .
What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?
For now I’m doing a lot of shoots, working with brands . I’m also busy with my projects like fashion photo camps for other girls who want to be models. For the future I want to join top model agency and have my own TV show.
Are there any current projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?
My recent projects are Fashion Photo camps for girls and my book « How to become a model » I wrote this in Russian and English . Russian version is already available online, English one is going to be available soon in print and online. My other big project is a fashion shoot with a live Russian bear. It’s going to be published this March. It will be photos and video which I’m going to promote in YouTube.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH BASIL WARIS
How long does it take to create one of these wonderful works?
I have always been very passionate about the arts and I pursued a degree in Cinema and Media Studies, but ultimately, it led me into the fashion world. Having worked alongside heavily respected leaders within the fashion industry, my early years consisted of training under and with top international stylists, art directors, fashion designers, supermodels and fashion show producers. Currently, I am the Show Producer for International Fashion Encounter and the Director of Operations at the prestigious Toronto Fashion Academy.
The transition to being a Creative Director was organic, especially when it came to almost seven years of working with and training Toronto Fashion Academy students to build their portfolios. Today, I can happily say that my celebrities and editorial styling work have been featured and published in top magazines around the globe.
How would you describe yourself to people that don't know you?
My mind is always on the move; I am constantly thinking about new ideas, reviewing shoot proofs, looking for inspirations, and binge-watching amidst all this. I am a night owl, who loves adventures and traveling (momentarily on hold).
What are the key ingredients for a striking image?
The most important ingredient for any striking image is building a connection. One glance and an invitation to scanning the complete image is the definitive task of an artist’s work. I strive to build an instant connection not always with the subject, but sometimes hinting to another element, but not forgetting that all elements work handin-hand. My work hints at elements of surprise through the expressions, clothing, accessories, colors, poses, or the overall mood.
Every work created has its own timeline; some ideas are very spontaneous whereas some require a lot of research and hard work. Every work has a personal connection to me; the process begins with inspiration, which then translated into a vision board. Once my vision board is ready, I put together a team that can bring my vision to life. Having the right team is the absolute key and working hand-in-hand with professionals and students from Toronto Fashion Academy makes the creative process quite easy for every project. Each editorial story usually takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks.
Could you share how you expand your vision of art, as a creative director?
I am constantly looking for inspiration and endlessly observe my surroundings with a blank canvas. Being open to challenges and mostly being surrounded by creative people, anything and everything can be a source of inspiration to me.
What do you think is the hardest thing in your life you've ever had to overcome?
The fashion industry, I’m sure like many others are not the easiest to get into. It challenges, tests your patience, and truly requires you to give it your all-time, dedication and strength. The low phases unquestionably take a toll and dealing with them is the hardest part. Nonetheless, with ample drive and overcoming all small and big challenges, only then, you can walk miles or cross bridges towards success. My journey has been a complete roller coaster, which I value and never forget.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH JOHN
-
I started into fashion photography 12 years ago. I’ve not had any formal schooling, just amazing workshops at the International Center of Photography in NYC and the Palm Beach Photographic Center in Florida, where I live. I come from the beauty industry so basically I have always had a vision of the the style of photographs I wanted to create having looked at fashion magazines for so many years. The problem was understanding how to create what I see in my head. I am starting to be more comfortable controlling light and also making natural light work in my images.
What do you want to achieve through fashion?
Fashion photography is not only about wardrobe and beautiful models. Today fashion photography is also used to make statements or tell a story. Finding my photographic voice is now becoming clear to me. I like location shooting and movement in my images. Richard Avedon has been a big influence, (as I’m sure many photographers would say). He was the first to get models to move and not just pose. So when I am shooting I like my models to play a role. Working with me is very much a collaborative experience.
Looking back at so many years of incredible work, how do you feel the photography and fashion industry has changed or evolved?
Digital has changed everything. We now can endlessly manipulate an image. The creative possibilities are limitless. However I don’t consider myself a retoucher but rather a photographer. I like to get it right in the camera. Then I use PS as my dark room, not so much manipulating but adding or subtracting color and contrast.
CIAMBRONE
I wouldn’t presume to advise new photographers as I still consider myself very new. We can always learn something. I have many inspirational photographers.. the masters who started us all. Avedon, Newton, Scavullo, Ritts, Testino.
I’m diligent and give 100%, always. And I am a team player.
What's been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
My first cover, for Tatouage magazine, Paris. I actually borrowed the camera I used for the shoot.
What are the most difficulties during your shoots?
Organizing lunch.
What do you like about MALVIE Magazine?
It’s a quality magazine with quality photographers. It not only looks good, it feels good in your hands. And they are very discerning as to what they consider worthy of inclusion for publication.
What exciting new projects should we expect from you in the future?
An upcoming magazine shoot for Women’s Fitness. I’m photographing a young female race car driver and we will be using a vintage Ferrari race car as a prop. Really looking forward to that.
Please briefly tell us about your back
ground. Who is John Ciambrone?
Who is the person that inspires you the most and why? What will be the suggestions to new photographers?

Tell us about the development process that culminated in the artist you are today.
Sometimes I think creative people come into their point of climax when they’ve spent years of discovering themselves. I know my experiences in life have brought me to this point as an artist today. Creating art has always been in my DNA.
When did you knew you wanted to be a fashion designer?
When I was 16 years old – I had a dream –I Took as many classes as I could to require the knowledge of construction, design, and illustration. To be a fashion designer was a dream that I had all but given up on, because raising my four daughters and supporting my husband with his business became my accomplishment to their successes. Then it happened my dream became reality, and now I work hard to bring my own successes and accomplishments to fruition. Today I enjoy the support of my daughters who encourage me and are ready to help me to achieve my goals.
Are there particular issues within the fashion industry that concern you?
No, I love all the creative people out there finding their personal space in a very large marketplace. You must be different and offer your customer something unique. It’s a competitive marketplace so darling you must be able to be one of a kind
What kind of impact do
The S
hope to make in the fashion world?
My hope is to introduce something NEW –FUN – FABULOUS to the marketplace. A piece of Art that will be worn and used for the simple pleasure of Love for Couture Aprons. We aren’t yesterday’s apron; but we are today’s modern lifestyle designing Couture Aprons for the Posh and Chic ladies who love fashion as an art. Capturing the Heart of Beauty by Captivating Romance is Couture Aprons’ motto.
I’ve always loved the story of Coco Chanel – A lady who knew how to market her brand before brands were ever thought to be more than a piece of clothing. She created an endless fashion that never goes out of style; she believed boring wouldn’t cut it. Being Fabulous was a lady’s given right to be beautiful inside and out. She wasn’t afraid to challenge the normal, designing outside the box and creating beauty has made her exceptional
Young Designers remember one thing – never take short cuts – always do exceptional quality products – The fashion market changes every day and you need to be on top of it and ready for the changes. Your designs must always be on the forefront of what is new, but don’t lose your uniqueness because that’s your edge to success.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SAMANTHA TRAMMELL
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
I've always designed clothes for myself, though I decided to go public around 2017. I'd created some pieces and whenever I wore them, they'd garner a massive amount of attention. The deciding factor was a coveted designers fashion show I attended. The items I wore garnered a huge amount of attention and I knew then that I was on to something.
things you've faced?
It's been a long introduction, I'm still in the process, but everyone's been pretty cool. I've been considerably blessed to have come out of the door with a few established New York designers so I'm very appreciative of that. Everyday is a work in progress and I have a few things in the works with a few more established New York designers that I'm looking forward to in the near future.
How would you describe yourself at work in so many years of career?
Consistency and knowing my niche. I've worked with the same photographer, Eugene Manning of PMP Photography NYC, since I started in this business. I look for what / who works, who understands their craft completely, and I keep that person or thing as part of my team or work ethic. Everyone has their own lane. In fashion, no one person can do everything. I am a creative, I re-sculpt art / fashion pieces, that is where I do my best work and I'm very aware of that. I'm also a stickler for comfort. I believe you get your best work when everyone's comfortable and happy so I believe in making sure everyone's good before work even begins. That has been one of the top priorities in my work environment.
The biggest effect that anything has had on the fashion industry today would be the Covid virus. Gatherings have almost been nullified, so becoming social media savvy has been a tremendous must, even bigger and more important than before. Navigating through and finding my footing in social media has been interesting. Some platforms are easier than others, but its all been fun and I'm consistently learning new angles to work through.
What kind of impact do you hope to make in the fashion world?
I would really love to be successful in making an impact with the concept of re-sculpting / repurposing beautiful, unique, luxury fur items in an environmentally sound way. Luxury will never go out of style and some people will still wear fur. There are a million ways to have it that are much safer and morally conscious than previous avenues. Ways which are cruelty free, sustainable and ethical, that's what Mink Basket Couture is all about. The world is moving in the direction of environmental consciousness as we speak and we're moving right along with it. Its just a matter of time before everyone catches on to us in a bigger way.
If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?
I would adamantly say, follow your own mind when it comes to your dreams and concepts. Listen to advice and take what you need from it, but never compromise your dreams and concepts to entertain someone else's.
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a fashion designer?
How hard has it been establishing yourself in the industry and what are some of the largest
They will get exactly what they request and desire from a Mink Basket Couture creation. When I am creating, I think of the level of luxury I would want for myself which is very high end. I'm extremely detailed and when re-sculpting for a client, I am precise. We will also never change how we create our pieces, Mink Basket Couture will forever be cruelty-free.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My very first shoot ever, straight out of the gate was with celebrity couture shoe designer John Ashford, which followed up with the designer to the stars Pamela Quinzi. The very first one and the second one. I thought, I really hope there's somewhere to go from here! lol. These two designers have a pretty huge reputation in NYC so I knew I was on the right track.
What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?
Everything gotten so busy and I'm loving it. Magazines, photo shoots, shows, all of these things are in motion now and I'd only imagined how it would feel to actually be here. I can only see the future being bigger and brighter for Mink Basket Couture because we're evolving as a universe and there are so many new innovations across the board. Everything can potentially be an inspiration for a creative artist and evolution never ceases to amaze me. I can always find inspiration everywhere I look. I'm doing what I've always loved, I'm creating, and this is just the beginning of a creative continuation that will only be on a bigger scale in the near future.

I was fond of photography from my childhood, maybe because it was and still is my Dad’s hobby, too. Being teenager I was interested in cinema and photo industries, but it was better to make another choice that time. Some time after, when I could afford modern camera and other stuff, I tried to do first steps in studio portrait photography as hobbyist. And when I realised that my skills are enough to make good-quality commercial shoots and clients are interested in my vision, I first tried and then totally switched into photography from my previous engineering career.
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?
Heh, I would say something like “Lad, don’t be afraid of your dreams, everything is closer and simplier, that seems to be!”
How has the covid-19 pandemic affected your art and business this and last year?
Both for me and my wife photography was one of those creative actions helping not to loose your mind during the first, severe lockdown… We performed two portrait shoots at home, using both natural and do-it-yourself artificial lighting - the photos were published in magazines later. Now I regret I didn’t take time to document life of the quarantined city during the short foot trips I had that days. The pandemic affected photo business a lot, just as another non-vital spheres. I lost a significant part of orders, but had much time for creativity, learning and increasing my level.
Tell me about a time you had a very stressful day at work and how did you handle it?
It was the day we had a fashion shoot of a new western-style hat collection for a brand, a year ago. A force-major occurred with our make-up artist, but we weren’t able to delay the shoot because of numerous reasons and strict timing before a Fashion Week.
At last, another MUA was found and the models were prepared, but we had only about two hours of studio time to do all the work! The complete look book was shot and it was turn to do something creative for the advertising campaign. Both me and the stylist were quite tired and nervous, didn’t know what to do. The idea came suddenly. I pushed a beauty dish to the studio wall, turned it parallel, wanting just to experiment… and we saw a nice, cinematic picture.
The campaign photos, later converted to film-style black and white, got perfect mood of pre-War Hollywood western. Printed in large format, they became a good addition to the collection being showed during the Ukrainian Fashion Week. That day I understood: there are no unsolvable issues. If you have a goal, a crew and your skills - you will do it the best.
Has your vision and style evolved or changed over time?
Looking back, I can’t say my style changed notably. I’m working on increasing technical and aesthetic quality every time to gain more more perfect result. Looking forward, I’m not planning to change my style in vision, lighting and post-production, but I’d love to try myself in some additional genres.
What is the most important thing for creating new amazing work?
As for me, the most important is a liberty to generate and realize into life your own and your team mates’ ideas and desires, not copying someone’s else existing works.
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a photographer?
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH YURY ROMANOV
What kind of impact do you hope to make in the photography world?
I wish I could do my best to popularise photography art and culture in its classic printed form - showcased in galleries and printed editions. I found it very interesting to assembly sets of photos into books, prepare them for the production. I’m happy to see my works printed, to touch them, to give them as a gift to my models. In our digital era of point-and-shoot cameras in every device, I would like to popularise the real photography and show that it is much closer to the visual art of the past, than seems to be.
What should
expect from Yury Romanov in the near future?
I have a couple of ambitious projects for this year. In one of them I want to show how the art of shibari can be used to highlight body plastics, feminine beauty and sexuality.
In my opinion, there are four key features. First, you must imagine the ready product, including such issues as future showcase or printing, and understand how to create the frame. Shooting “we’ll see how it goes” and giving excessive work to a retoucher is not the best variant. Second, you should know how to gather a good team of professional, creative and highly motivated people, interested in a project as much as you are. Third, as the art of photography is more about the game of lights and shadows, than everything else, you should master both natural and artificial lighting perfectly and be capable to use it properly according to the situation.
Doing first steps in studio shooting, I read a lot, prepared to sessions carefully, tried to remember and recreated ready lighting schemes. Now I have enough experience and vision to create lighting around the person I’m shooting just at the stage, considering the nuances of appearance, look and some hardly predictable moments. The fourth, but not the least important, is the art of post production. Only a year ago I said goodbye to the analogue photography and can claim it had taught me the composition - I quite rarely crop my frames. Talking about me, I usually make only necessary amount of skin retouch, some tricks with highlights and shadows and color grading. And my photos are liked for their natural look.
As the expert you are, what are the unique features of this kind of photography and the keys to master it?
we

Please briefly tell us about your background. Who is Marfa Leskova as an artist?
First thing I would like to say about myself as an artist is that I adhere to diversity, in every sense of the word. I love to photograph ‘beauties’, fashion, nature, lifestyle and love stories. I appreciate, equally, all aspects of photography. This is the only way, as an artist, one can find an eternal source of inspiration & meaning, being absolutely captivated by different styles and trends.
You are a creative mind with an exceptional eye for detail, are you able to talk us through your process when creating your art?
Everything you see was created step by step.
The moment of realisation occurred, I believe, eighteen months ago, when I graduated from university and then I just kind of plunged into photography. It has since then been my passion. I am also a choreographer, however, my main professional activity is photography and I am delighted to share the results of the process.
What are the technical challenges of this kind of photography and how did you overcome them?
I should say that most of my sessions are shot in daylight, I prefer to use minimalism and when a person is the object of a composition, sometimes taking on challenging experiments, which I love doing, with colours and textures. I was really inspired by Maxim Serikow, a photographer from Moscow, who is an expert in composing light schemes, which inspired me with the organisation of this photoshoot, and to be honest it was one of the most challenging photographic sessions of my life. I had the benefit of an excellent support team, only with their help and professionalism was it possible to achieve these results.
What's the most important thing you want your potential clients to know about you?
As an introvert, I appreciate people who respect me and my work, a photographic session with me is kind of a ‘trial’ people may be requested to run, lay on the floor, stretch or twist, if necessary, to create an artistic effect.
I saw a makeup tutorial in ‘Euphoria’ series style, it was sophisticated and required a lot of attention to detail like different-sized crystals and many shades of eye-shadow. The idea of the hairstyle came to my mind in the process of doing the make-up. I love to work with Anya (the model) because she’s also a dancer and knows how to pose, I don’t usually have to say much. It takes about 20 minutes to shoot one scene, then we change the lighting and clothing.
Who is the person that inspires you the most and why?
It is my assistant and also the creative director Tatiana (@tati_gyal_bgt), who is my second self, we always create together and she gives me the most support always. By the way, she’s my favorite model too.
What is the most important thing for creating new amazing work?
I have already mentioned the team, which is a necessary component, but equally important is to be ‘in a resourceful state of mind’. In order to create, one must have enough sleep, sufficient time outdoors, spend some free time relaxing and be fit to maintain creative energy.
What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future?
I don’t have an ultimate goal, I am simply living and loving the journey, the process. My career is so unpredictable: I used to photograph weddings, now I’m into fashion; a fascinating diversion onto a new route!
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a photographer?
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH
MARFA LESKOVA
What people see in others is only what other people want to show them, meaning, a photographer’s work is really tough as it takes a lot of effort to find and show someone’s hidden personality, their strong points of which they themselves may not always be aware, and it may take hours to find the right colour, when working on the results (I always do the retouching myself). I don’t take weekends off or vacations, if you are ready to live a life like this ̶ you will be astounded by how many opportunities life will offer you, how many wonderful people you will meet. The advantages offered by this profession outweigh all the difficulties one is likely to encounter.
