Racism is antithetical to MALVIE's mission.

Racism is the act of discriminating or bullying someone due to their race or ethnicity. Racism comes in big and small forms, from name-calling and stereotyping to bullying and targeting. Racism is a big problem in our society and is affecting so many people internationally.

We share the deep sadness that so many are currently feeling and the upset at the injustices that lie at the root. Too many innocent people have lost their lives. Too many sickening murders, most recently that of George Floyd, attest to brutal and unjustified treatment.

While it’ll take us time to identify the highest-impact actions, we don’t want to wait to do anything. We made this special edition to showcase art which empowers black people and amplifies their voices. In the immediate term, we are going to donate proceeds to a local black led organization tackling racial injustice.

MALVIE won’t solve these problems alone. But we share the concern motivating so many others and would like to make crystal clear our support for building a society that solves these challenges, and where safety, security, and access to opportunity are properly accessible to all.

You are not alone. Nobody has any right to discriminate against you based on your race or ethnicity. Ever.

Can you give us a bit of background on how your career evolved?

My career evolved when I moved to New York City from Atlanta, Georgia to take my career to the next level. New York is one of the most prominent fashion capitals of the world.

What's been the biggest highlight in your career so far?

The biggest highlight in my career thus far, was when I landed my first paid gig with a highly esteemed corporation.

If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?

Trust your instincts.

Using one word how would you describe your art?

Unique

Who is the person that inspires you the most and why?

I am most inspired by my great-grandmother because she was a very independent and hardworking woman during a time where African Americans were marginalized and highly oppressed.

If you can have the power to share anything with the world, what would that be?

I would like to share my life story with the world to inspire others to fulfill their dreams, even if they do not have anyone supporting you. Believe in yourself and realize that you are good enough.

What are your goals for the near future and do you have any exciting project you want to share with us?

My goals consist of me getting signed nationally and internationally with modeling agencies. I plan on being published in various magazines. Also, I would like to be the face of a beauty cosmetics and perfume line.

Who is the person that inspires you the most and why?

My grandmother Helen. I think the world of her and work to make her proud.

If you can have the power to share anything with the world, what would that be?

If it were possible- and if I had the means, it would be the will to create. Each of us has the power to create SOMETHING and make our creative contributions to society.

What are your goals for the near future and do you have any exciting project you want to share with us?

One of my goals involves a project I’m wrapping up that’s centered around last summer’s Black Lives Matter protests here in Chicago. Hopefully those particular photos will be available in large format soon!beauty cosmetics and perfume line.

Randomshoot is a personal project directed by Oscar Bueno as a photographer. The objective is to get the most natural creativity from the teammates of each shooting we done. That fashion editorials are made randomly in a lot of ways: after choosing a date we randomize the models who are going to appear, make up artist, hair and fashion stylist never have a moodboard so they have only one order: to create what the location and models inspire to them. They can coordinate their ideas or not. As a photographer I never know the concept before the shooting day or the day before.

Nowadays we are constantly creating the same content with little differences, its difficult to create something new because surely someone have it done before. The common use of moodboards limitate the creativity to one initial idea and a selection of photos done by others. That influence always in the mind of the people is working in the project. I’m psychologist too and I thought that other way for creating was possible without limitating the mates creativity: Randomshoot.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Can you give us a bit of background on how your career evolved?

together magic.

to make Natalia

When I was very young I would always act and take pictures with my father. Then, when I moved to a different town I became a shy kid when it came to putting myself out there. I joined musical theater in 8th grade to try and come out of my shell, and it worked. I suddenly fell involve with that space and meeting a bunch of people that were into the arts. I then started to model, which took me a while to truly feel confident in my own skin as an Afro-Latina, having been made fun of in my predominantly white school for being different.

wonderful

As a female model it can be very uncomfortable with some male photographers, but it wasn’t always easy to find a female photographer. After about 2 years of modeling my fiancé had given me his old camera, and that was the day my life changed. I was always intrigued by photography, but never really learned how to create such magic. I researched everyday and started doing photoshoots right away. I didn’t have access to anything at the time, so I started photographing my friends and just did photoshoots for fun. It turned into the biggest passion I ever had and I continued to evolve. I wanted to be that female photographer that makes everyone feel comfortable and also make magic with other women of color.

Using one word how would you describe your art?

What's been the biggest highlight in your career so far?

The opportunity to work with Layana Aguilar, the fashion designer that designed the dress for the first Latina Disney princess was a really big moment for me. I did an editorial with some of her designs and it was just magical. It’s amazing for me to see women, but especially women of color being so successful. Being able to create this art with an amazing team filled with women of color was truly inspirational. I am so grateful for that opportunity and can’t wait to work with her again.

If I could describe my art in one word it would be majestic. I spent a lot of time trying to see which brand name would fit me best and decided on Majestic Lens. Majestic can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. Simply meaning beautiful, but also having dignity and having a purpose. My art stems from my heart, and to me that means the world. It’s not even just the result of the photo, it’s the entire process and the whole team that makes it happen. It truly is a majestic feeling when I’m behind the lens.

If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?

If I could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to me, I would say to live your life with the most positive outlook. When I say this I don’t mean ignore the problems in life, I just mean instead of saying I can’t do it, ask yourself how you can. It’s a hard way of living, but the best way. I have grown up to be positive and it has honestly got me through everything and is the reason I am always smiling!

Who is the person that inspires you the most and why?

The person that inspires me the most is my father. Growing up I didn’t see him every day as my parents were divorced, but the times spent with him were unforgettable moments. My creative vision started with him from as young as a toddler. My father would have me acting and taking videos and pictures. I always wanted to hold his camera and take the shots myself. It only started from there. My father has worked in the entertainment industry for a very long time now. He has taught me to truly follow my heart and believes that no matter what I set my mind on I can accomplish it. He is always the one I go to when it comes to trying to get advice on a certain project because he will be 100% honest with me and let me know what works and what doesn’t. He wants the best for me and is the best supporter and motivator. He is always working on new projects, even when people don’t believe they will succeed. He follows his heart and inspires me to do the same. The world is in our hands when it comes to art. Judgement and hate are always going to be upon us, but we have to put that aside and know in our hearts how hard we have worked to get to the place we are now, which is doing the thing we love most.

If you can have the power to share anything with the world, what would that be?

If I could share anything with the world it would be to love better. We live in a world that is constantly hating one another for our skin and gender identity. Racism and sexism have been around forever and we need to try our hardest every single day to eliminate these from society. As a photographer I have made it my goal to amplify the voices of women of color. I am all about showing the world that we indeed do matter and whether some people don’t believe so, I know so. It’s the best feeling to have a group of powerful and strong women of color come together to make wonderful magic. We will always matter, and it’s time to show the world what we got!

What are your goals for the near future and do you have any exciting project you want to share with us?

I am constantly thinking about what to do next. I have been on a bit of a pause from creating with others due to the global pandemic. This pause doesn’t mean I’ve stopped creating, I am constantly working on new ideas and planning my next project. I have also been doing some self-portrait sessions just to work on techniques and get even better so when I get back at it I’m better then I was before.
