Being an Artist and choosing to be an Artist is not always easy.

Some days feel like we can’t produce anything and it can be so hard to love your own art sometimes, believe me, I know. I’ve been there more times than I can count and I know I’ll be back in that same place a lot of times again. That’s what we get when choosing to live by our creativity, some days are better than others – we are not machines. But it is so worth it, isn’t it?

Hours and hours spent thinking, brainstorming, creat ing. Till you get the final work, the one that makes your eyes shine brighter and makes your heart and soul ex plode in love and relief. “I am great at it. That is what I am meant to be doing”. No feeling compares to that one, and that’s why we keep on working with Art. I mean, what would be of the world without it? The world needs Art, the world needs Artists, the world needs us, the world needs you.

The happiness and the proudness of seeing people lov ing your work, and being able to see how good you are, is one of the best feelings ever, and that’s why we from MALVIE are so happy to help you achieve it. Whether it is photography, modeling, styling, doing makeup or whatever kind of art it is that you work with, to show case your beautiful work to the world is our mission, to make you feel appreciated is our mission. To be part of your story is our mission. Thank you so much for allowing us to do that.

Fashion rules the world and we can prove it!

In this century, the style trends are do minating the world more than they ever did and controlling people’s way of dressing, do ing their makeup, decorating their houses and living in general. It is like the 60s, when the ‘Flower Power’ concept came not just to bring flares and tunics, but to sum up the whole atti tude of the people.

Nowadays, Fashion is bold and daring, what is the perfect reflect of this new gene ration that is not afraid to speak their minds, that have the urge to change the world and will dress however they want to dress. Fashion is not just about choosing clothes to dress your body, it is the essence of your personality and beliefs – and most designers are well aware of the power they hold.

Fashion trends have the power to uni fy women and men around the world at the same time that they al low people to portray their own individuality. Any period of time can be identified immediately just by the style of clothes the people were wearing, and this is just one of the many examples to show how powerful and all-encompassing Fashion is. Fa shion can change from one second to the next, yes, but what never changes is the hold it has over society, and the major role it plays in the modern world. It is so important that to keep up with the latest trends, people will subscri

be to fashion magazines, keep a keen eye on what has appeared in shops and runways and also on what has been there for forever. If they are famous, they might even have their own personal relationship with a designer who will keep them well ahead of the current trends, therefore, people who want to know what the new fashion lines are going to be will pay really close attention to what celebrities are wearing. Being ahead of fashion is for many, the ultima te achievement – although being too ahead is just as bad as being behind it.

Designers and other professionals of the Fashion Industry continue to point the im portance they know people put on Fashion, and people continue to hang on to their every move. That’s why, as long as this carries on, Fashion will continue to maintain its dominant position in society. It influences not only what we wear, but everything we do, say, and even think. The best example right now is the fact that so many brands and companies are going green - that’s mostly because new buyers, the Gen Z, will not consume something that’s not eco-friendly.

Younger consumers are seriously con cerned about social and environmental cau ses, which many think are the defining issues of our time. They back their beliefs with their shopping habits, which brings them to prefer

The Fashion Industry is, right now, one of the most lucrative ones in the whole world, and it has social and economic importance that goes without saying – but we are going to say it anyway. Fashion trends have the power to unifywomen and men around the world

brands that are aligned with their values and avo id those that don’t. When brands noticed that, they started to integrate social and environmental themes into their products and services. Most of the Generation Z consumers believe that compa nies have a responsibility to address environmen tal and social issues, a thought that is a departure from the views of the previous generation, the Mil lennials.

However, this preoccupation is not exclusi ve for the Gen Z or for the Millennials. Even though they are the ones that worry about it the most, over the past three years a third of consumers worldwide have changed their ways of buying to incorporate new values and views. A new global way of thinking is emerging, and billions of people are using consumption as a means to express their deeply held beliefs. Signs of this evolving agenda can be found in places deeper than the consumers feelings, too. Fashion companies are getting “woke” (the new way of saying they’re alert to the injustice in society). Some Fashion brands and companies have attached collections and ran ges to specific causes, and some are taking things even further and putting purpose at the heart of their strategy and operations. There are growing numbers of B-Corporations, which are certified to have considered the impact of their decisions on people, society, and the planet. In the fashion sec tor, the number of B-corps had risen to over 150 as of September 2020, compared with just seven in 2010.

Notably, environmentally and socially focu sed companies are considered by younger con sumers to be better prospects as employers, and the vast majority say they would be more loyal to companies that are aligned with those values. That means companies can expect consumers to closely examine the level of continuity across campaigns and the nature of their strategic and operational decisions, as well as their tone.

Despite the many associated consequ ences that the companies might not enjoy, like working with some more expensive materials and paying more money to their employees,as well as the risks – it would be really bad to be seen as a greenwasher – some really big and important

brands will be willing to court controver sy to express specific beliefs, specially the luxury ones, which will seek to attract youn ger consumer groups in order to keep the ir importance untouched throughout the generations. There are clear benefits from doing so, to them and to the planet, and the more that companies express an authentic view, the more that those who don’t will be exposedand boycotted. And while there is some worries about a counterargument that says that expression of controversial views may deter some customers, the cal culation, is that the loyalty rewarded by its remaining customers matters more.

So yes, the world of Fashion can be incre dibly glamorous and it is, indeed, absolutely fascinating, but it is also way more than that: it does rule the world in every possi ble way. And it is not just about dressing, thinking and acting – it can really help make important and very much needed changes.

Racism goes against everything we believe here in MALVIE

Whether it comes in big gestures, like bullying and name-calling, or disguised as “jokes”, racism is violent. It is always aggressive and has the only purpose to oppress people. And that is something we can no longer tolerate.

As we live in a world where people are being discriminated and even murdered for their skin color and genetic features, it is our mission to try to make life a little less scary.

You are not alone!

You deserve to be respected and appreciated for who you are, and nobody has the right or the power to say otherwise.

We know we cannot change everything on our own, but we are doing our best to help in any way possible and to show our support in the making of a society in which everyone is safe, respected and gets ev ery opportunity they deserve.

We know it will take time for us to make big chang es with worldwide im pacts, but we can try and start somewhere. That’s why we created MALVIE Noir, a special edition des tined to empower people of color and make their voices heard through the art. Also, in the immedi ate term, we are donating proceeds to a black led or ganizations that fights ra cial injustice.

You started your on screen acting career just two years ago in Sunrise in Heaven, how was it for you? How did you feel when getting the part for Jan?

I had a great experience. it was my first time being on a set having come from a primarily theater background. It was a crash course on movie making as we had roughly 11 film days. I got to work with Corbin Bernsen, an actor who's work I was familiar with and excited by. He was great in Shane Black's movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Travis Burns, Aitana Rinab, and Connor McRaith were also talented actors I had the pleasure of working with. We all met at the second round callback. When I heard I booked the role from my agents, I was getting off a plane and had to book a returning flight back to Los Angeles for fittings. Overall, I had a great experience and I think it's a beautiful love story.

How do you manage to bring life to your characters? Do you have a specific routine for that?

It's a process and it changes with each role. When I'm auditioning, I usually read as much of the script or source material available, and then I make intuitive choices about how I think the character might move or sound. Once I get further along in the process, I comb the script three or four times, looking at what the charac ter says about themselves, what they say about their relationships with others, and what other people say about them. I look at their character arc and their objectives. I take it beat by beat. I usually make a playlist for the character of mu sic that they might listen to, or music that I can listen to that makes me think of them.

When you get a part, how do you prepare yourself for the movies and the craziness of the studio life?

Well, I'm going through that process right now as I'm leaving Los Angeles to film a movie in Texas for a month. I start preparing immedi ately and become a bit of a hermit weeks be fore I get to set. I call up the person who helped

me with the self-tape and thank them and then I call up my acting coach and dialect coach. Every time I get an offer I send the project to my acting coach to have them read. If the char acter has a specific skill set, I start picking it up. If they skateboard like my character Gem ma in the Geo film, then I get a skateboard. If she's a pole dancer, then I find the best pole dancer in town, and I work with them.

The movie Willy’s Wonderland came out sooner this year, and you got the chance to work with a lot of great artists, such as Nich olas Cage. How was that experience for you? How do you think it aggregated your acting skills?

Working with Nic Cage was a special experi ence. There aren't many actors who can carry a whole movie without saying a word and still have an audience captivated and hanging on their every move. He's truly a remarkable per former and it was a pleasure working with him.

Do you have a favorite character that you portrayed? If so, what is it and why? Thus far, my favorite has been Jan in Sunrise in Heaven but I'm excited to work on Penelope in my upcoming movie Frank and Penelope. Pe nelope reminds me of Roberta in Danny in the Deep Blue See by John Patrick Shanley. There is so much depth and intelligence to her even though she doesn't have a formal education. I'm excited to work with Sean Patrick Flannery who's very much an actor's director. He has had quite a lot of success with his acting ca reer and this is his directorial debut.

How did you feel in your first movie premiere? Do you still feel the same way every time or did you get used to it now? Premiere's are still very new to me. It's a dif ferent part of filmmaking, and I'm not used to it. I've only been to a few premieres in my life, but it's always fun to share the movie you've to work on with an audience and to be a part of that process.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH

Frank and Penelope, one of your next projects, seems really intense. What can we expect from this movie?

Well, Frank and Penelope is a movie that you probably won't get to see until 2022 as we are filming it in the sum mer of 2021. I can't say much yet, but It's a wild ride.

Your upcoming movie, Spinning Gold, is your first documentary movie. What is the difference between acting in a fictional story and in a real one?

Spinning Gold was actually my second movie that was based on a true story. Sunrise in Heaven was also based on a true story though it was not a story that was docu mented as heavily as Neil Bogart's of Casablanca records. When acting in a fictional story you have more creative lib erties you can take, whereas when you are acting in a mov ie that is based on someone's real life story you want to do that story justice and tell it as authentically as you can.

Still on the Spinning Gold topic, the movie happens in the 70’s. How are you bringing to life something that happened in a time where you weren’t even born? How are you getting the specific details?

Well, I like to watch movies and documentaries that were made about or around that period in time. I try to do as much research as I can before taking on a role in period piece. I really enjoy the process of reading scripts and breaking down a story from different perspectives. I enjoy educating myself in general. You know some of the great est actors are the smartest people. You have to know what it was like to be of a certain socioeconomic class in a spe cific region of the world and how that affects the attain ability of your characters wants, needs, and deep-rooted desires.

How did you discover your passion for acting, and what was your first ever experience as an actress?

Learning and working with talented people in film is very exciting to me. I first discovered a passion for acting from reading books actually. I had a late start reading, but once I picked it up I couldn't stop. I had read a lot of young adult books when I was in high school, and saw them made into movies. I wanted to be a part of those stories.

You are very young and already super successful, so what would you say to aspiring actors and actresses that are just starting on this path?

Thank you, that's very flattering. I still feel that I'm just at the beginning of a very long journey. I still have so much to learn, but if I was asked for some advice from another young aspiring actress or actor, I'd say keep going. Keep doing the things you love to do and never give up on them and eventually it'll work out as it's suppose to. It's not a competition or a race. We're all just walking each other home.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH NILOOFAR

Please briefly tell us about your background. Who is Niloofar as an artist?

I started to launch my first capsule collection right after my graduation from Esmod Interna tional Fashion University in 2016. As an artist, I am allowing myself to be creative with the pow er of visualization of my final piece, Highlight ing my Imagination into the silhouette, colors and cuts. My knowledge and techniques that were perfected during my global experience in Asia, Europe and in the United States, ensured that I expressed my thoughts flawlessly in each handcrafted piece.

What do you want to achieve through fashion?

I believe that fashion is the language of taste. Knowing myself as a creative person, I tried to keep away from trends. Karl Lagerfeld famous ly once said, “…Trendy is the last stage before tacky”. I want to achieve uniqueness, the har mony between cultures, and something that has nothing to do with trends and disposable fashion. I want to bring the connection and sto ry telling about each piece that is made for and bringing more fairness to the industry.

How would you describe your work to someone who has never seen it? Is there any mes sage you would like your photos to convey?

My work always been a passion of mine that pushes me to work harder and learn more every time. I think about the pieces that are easy to wear, yet try to keep them chic. I show my work base on the lifestyle, Cultures, and atmospheres of my personality. My message represents life. I want to create something that makes me feel creative, interesting and com plicated, which then I feel the most alive and engaged with the world.

How do you keep yourself productive and retain your creative edge?

I am the great observer and I have my own static when it comes to getting inspired by oth er designers. I try to inspire myself with other collections that are similar to my intention and

find my train of thought. Moreover, I inspire myself every time I read about the history of Fashion and people who found their style and brand. I want to also clarify that I do not accept any kind of coping. Sticking to one’s own de sign and uniqueness is the only way to grow and retain your brand.

How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?

When I started, many companies were still drafting pattern with hand , very Haut Couture. But over the years, fast fashion has replaced the traditional methods. This has left very little room for small hand crafted designers to grow. It is disappointing that quantity is preferred over quality. Similar to any other field, fash ion has become more of a business mentality where large investors crush small designers with their power of marketing and demand. I don’t believe this will be healthy for fashion in the coming years.

Who is the person that inspires you the most and why?

There are few people who inspire me in differ ent aspects, Such as Tom Ford, Olivier Roust ing and Diane Von Furstenberg. Their stories and the way they established their brands with their strong vision and being consistent, in spired me the most.

What kind of impact do you hope to make in the fashion world?

I always want to show the environmental im pacts of our decisions. I want to encourage designers to produce organic products that ex pand across several demographics. The reach of fashion is vast, and it is both the designers and consumers responsibility to make an im pact. Innovation, creativity, and social respon sibility/sustainability all play key roles in mak ing an impact in the fashion and design world.

In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?

I love to combine art and music in fashion and

I am willing to create the atmosphere to link them together by learning more about music and exploring more art in museums and getting to know more contemporary artists worldwide. This helps me to com municate better with our world. I find the internet to be my best friend for that mat ter.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/ dreams for the future?

In 2017, My nominated design for Volk swagen Competition was one of the high lights of my career. Being able to combine fashion and technology was a great thing to happen for me. My dream for the future is to create a bridge between fashion and technology. As Steve Jobs famously said “technology alone is not enough—it’s tech nology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the re sults that make our heart sing.” I also hope to be more committed to sustainability as well.

Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you?

First of all thanks for this opportunity for this interview and sharing my thoughts

with your audience. I believe that social media the best platform to see more of what I have to offer. I can be found on instagram @Nillary_ , where you can follow my work and my life story. And I am always open to collaborate and share ideas.
