SISTER SLEDGE Best known for their work with Chic & Nile Rodgers in the late 1970s, siblings Debbie, Kim, Joni, and Kathy Sledge were originally collectively known as Sister Sledge. The sisters reached the height of their popularity during the disco era but had been recording since the early 70s and were still active in the late 90s. The group was formed in Philadelphia in 1971, when the sisters’ ages ranged from 12 to 16, and they recorded their first single, ‘Time Will Tell’, for the Philly-based Money Back label. In 1972, Sister Sledge signed with Atco and recorded its second single, ‘Weatherman’, which was followed by the Jackson 5-like ‘Mama Never Told Me’ in 1973. Now featuring original members Joni & Debbie Sister Sledge continue to tour the world performing their famous party hits.

LIL’ MO

Beginning life in the spotlight under the expert tutelage of Missy Elliott, her voice, passion and street sensibilities have kept her in the hearts and minds of all true R&B fans since she came around in 1998. Mo, real name Cynthia Loving, made a string of feature appearances before dropping her 2002 debut LP ‘Based On A True Story’ which features the smash ‘Superwoman (Part II)’. Mo now has 4 LPs to her name and has been cast in the ‘R&B Divas’ TV Show for which she also wrote the intro song.

Returning to the stage upon which his father the ‘King Of Jamaican Rocksteady’ Alton Ellis “handed over the baton” to him, Christopher Ellis has been busy since his sell-out 2012 performance. The recipient of the Best British Male Newcomer at the Brit Reggae Awards, he hosted his own show on BBC Radio 1Xtra as part of the Xtra Talent season and released ‘End of Time’ and ‘Don’t Change Your Number’ on the Ghetto Youths album Billboard Chart topping album ‘Set Up Shop Volume 1. SOUL SANCTUARY GOSPEL CHOIR ALBUM LAUNCH PLUS EDWIN FAWCETT

Founded by Miko Giedroyc for weekly mass at in Soho Square, based on the belief that excellent contemporary music in worship would appeal to a great many Christians and even more potential Christians. Their music is rooted in contemporary gospel, with a unique blend of jazz, soul, funk, Latin and ‘modern classical’. In the choir’s eight-year existence they have been home to lead singers from West End shows and jazz and soul recording artists, as well as seasoned choral directors, session singers and songwriters. STUBBORN HEART Luca Santucci & Ben Fitzgerald set ears buzzing in 2011 with a then unidentified white label 12” and it’s follow up EP ‘Need Someone’ in 2012. The duo’s self-titled debut of stunning and surprisingly poignant electronic soul emotes heartbreak over broken beats and dark, atmospheric space. The clean, ghostly production coalesces with Luca’s mournful vocal to positively ooze a bruised melancholy. Equally inspired by 80’s and 90’s electronic music and 60’s and 70’s soul, Stubborn Heart never lose their passion for good pop music. INDIAN.CO.UK

SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER SOLD OUT

THE TWANG Birmingham based The Twang’s third album ‘10:20’ follows the success of their first two records (their debut clocking in excess of 200,000 sales bearing hits Either Way and Wide Awake, and second album delivering massive fan favourite Barney Rubble), which firmly cemented the band’s place in UK indie history. Lambasted by the press from day one The Twang haven’t had it easy – but the sheer love for what they do has kept them going, and with this album it really is time to let the music do the talking. 14

Neresa, David & Nadine make up the hot British vocal gospel group who began their public journey as the runaway winners of Season 1 of Time to Shine. All are experienced and talented musicians, driven not only to use their talent as tools of ministry but also to take gospel music for a swim in the mainstream. They have performed at the Barbados Gospel Festival and some UK Festivals and their debut album ‘Edge Street’ is to be re – released with some brand new added tracks recorded live at The Jazz Cafe. DIVINEDIVINE.CO.UK

Josh signed to Sony/RCA in 2011 after he co-wrote and featured on Wretch 32’s number one single. He released his debut album in April this year and is now looking to playing his first headline show since the albums release. Hailing from Swindon, Josh grew up listening to the music his father played Dylan, Hendrix, and Chapman. He first picked up a guitar at the age of three and since then he has been likened to a young Ray LaMontagne, Josh is rapidly developing a name for himself as a gutsy and heartfelt young performer.

ANDREW ROACHFORD Roachford arrived in the late 80’s with unforgettable tracks like ‘Cuddly Toy’ and ‘Family Man’ as the first artist to sign a staggering seven-album deal with Columbia Records and was their biggest selling domestic act for 10 years. Born into a musical dynasty, his uncle Bill Roachford was a virtuoso saxophonist with whom Andrew used to perform on the jazz circuit, also in his career he has been approached by such luminaries as Michael Jackson and Chaka Khan to write songs. The new LP ‘Addictive’ comes after some wait since 2005’s ‘Word Of Mouth’. ROACHFORD.CO.UK

WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER £20

MAX ROMEO Max Romeo is a reggae and roots reggae recording artist who has achieved chart success in his home country, and in the UK. Romeo was responsible for launching an entirely new sub-genre of reggae, whose overtly suggestive lyrics caused an outcry but took a massive hold of the music scene regardless. Yet innuendo was the least of the singer’s stylings, previous to the release of his infamous ‘Wet Dream’, Romeo had garnered a string of sweet hits with the vocal trio the Emotions. And once the nocturnal naughtiness faded, the singer established himself as one of the most important figures in the roots scene.

ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN PLUS MINORA

Having proven her credentials and immense vocal talent for 13 years as front woman of The Gathering, in 2007 Anneke felt it was time to begin her own solo career. Along with her new band Agua de Annique the charismatic singer quickly established herself as a solo artist, releasing several albums to critical and popular acclaim.

If Paul Du Noyer’s forthcoming book on Deaf School had already been published we wouldn’t need to describe the band’s huge significance. Of the band the author says “In the whole history of Liverpool music two bands matter most, one is the Beatles and the other is Deaf School”

Her fifth LP ‘Drive’ is released this month for this release Anneke collaborated with Dutch songwriter and producer Arno Krabman, enlisting the help of her live band to lay down the new tracks.

Deaf School is a very rich mix of remarkable tunes, intelligent lyrics, sharp arrangements and high-end musicianship. All of this delivered with wit, charm and glamour. If this sounds at odds with the many monochrome, inert self-regarding acts working today it is intentional.

ROBBIE BOYD Robbie’s exciting and uplifting folk-pop sound has earned him a online following of nearly 10,000 facebook fans and half a million YouTube views after being discovered busking on the streets of London.

The once introvert now has a greater understanding of where she is going musically due to the plethora of artists clamouring to work with her. ‘Ghost’ is but a sample of what is to come on her new release ‘Love Is The Law’.

His busking background more than prepared him for the big stage with The Times, Evening Standard, The Telegraph and Time Out heaping praise on his live shows. This last year alone Robbie and his band have played the Olympic Park as support to McFly and The Feeling as well as becoming the first Brit ever to perform atop the O2.
