THE INVISIBLE PATIO SET An almost transparent resin furniture set with built-in storage
By: Brittany Jodhan-Butts, Henna Kuisma and Marco Modena
The Client The Client is a young artist in her early 30’s living in a small apartment in the city. She would like to have a garden and patio but doesnt have the space.
The small space only allows for a vertical garden two chairs and a small table.
The Concept Due to the small space and our clients artsy personality, we chose to make the seats out of clear acrylic to give the illusion of an invisible chair. This will make the small space feel more open as the furniture wont appear big or bulky. The base of the product will consist of vines made from metal. The vine shaped legs will be attached to the acrylic giving the illusion that the product is hovering above the vines.

The Production Process Our seating and storage unit will requires two molding processes. Investment casting will be used to mold the steel into a plant like shape. The plant shaped steel piece will then be placed in the mold. Injection molding will be used to mold the polycarbonate around the steel into the shape, with a hollow slot below for the wooden draw.
