anila has been undergoing a revival in recent years, with the restoration of Jones Bridge, the launch of the National Museum of Natural History, and the completion of the Museo de Intramuros among the most high profile projects to date. The challenge has always been respecting the city’s storied heritage while ensuring a future that is modern, relevant and sustainable. A panel of passionate heritage advocates, conservators and architects-Ivan Man Dy, Founder of the Old Manila Walks, Martin Lopez, Director of the FEU Center for the Arts, Lorelei de Viana, Executive Director of the Center for Filipino Architecture of the United Architects of the Philippines, Tina Paterno, President, International Council on Monuments and Sights (ICOMOS) Philippines-discussed the challenge of protecting and preserving over 450 years of heritage and culture of Manila amidst the intense urban activity happening in the city, while giving way to modernization and development.
