It has no ego to cloud its perception. Through interaction with horses we can learn to know ourselves better as the feelings of trust are learned by children and horse the same way. Horses are totally honest. They never lie; they are incapable of doing so since they are more forthcoming in their feelings, physically and emotionally as they are not concerned with an “Image”. Horse riding teaches us to communicate, learn patience, timing, institution and awareness. THE NEW ICON OF INDIAN EQUESTRIAN

RIS. AJAY SAWANT “ARJUNA AWARDEE”

It was in March 2015 at Gautambudh University, Greater Noida that Equiwings Sports, Company of our member Rtn. Ahmad Afsar under the aegis of Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) and in association with Uttar Pradesh Sports Department were organising Asian & International Equestrian Tent Pegging Championship.

Indian Team had been long deprived of playing abroad, because the Indian Equestrian Federation had their focus only on Asian Games that did not have Tent Pegging as a discipline after 1982. But destiny changed and the Federation decided to field an Indian Team at the ITPF World Cup Qualifiers & Emirates International Championship in December 2015 in Abu Dhabi.

EFI’s National’s were also conducted prior to the International Event where Risaldar Ajay Sawant stormed into the Top 4 Players out of over One Hundred Riders of various Units of Indian Army, Various Police Units, State Teams and other Paramilitary Teams.

When all training & preparations had been completed, to the shock of Indian Team, the federation informed that the Sports Ministry will not be funding the travel and other Training program for the International event. This is when Mr. Brijesh Mathur, a philanthropist and a member of EFI came forward to help the team.

The Silent Jawan of India’s prestigious 61st Cavalry Unit of the Great Indian Army, had all the requisite Training, Determination and zeal to succeed. He made a mark at the International & Asian Championship where 12 other Top Nations were participating. Sawant not only won several International Medals but was Adjudged the Best Rider from ASIA. His India Team Manager, Ahmad Afsar says, “Sawant gets success because of his clear thought process for the Game. At the Start of his run, when his steed picks the top gear and in control of his line & length at the Tent Pegging Track, a resounding voice with a slogan “HEY SHIVAA” mesmerises the crowd; not just Indians, but International players and spectators repeat after him the magical words…HEY SHIVAA…” says Ahmad.

The team made way to Abu Dhabi, but a mistake in Sawant’s VISA deprived him to board the flight. Sawant was heart-broken. For the first time, he had the opportunity to represent his country abroad for a 4 Day Championship and that was not seemingly possible as the next two days were holidays in Abu Dhabi and no official work could take place. The Team Mentor and Chef ‘D Equipe Mr. Brijesh Mathur assured Sawant that he would play in the tournament and would arrange a chartered flight for him after resolving his visa issue in Abu Dhabi. Sawant was not very convinced. The feeling of being left behind left him in tears, which he never showed, being from the INDIAN ARMY.

12.

Mr. Mathur, committed to his words, made no stone unturned to get Sawant his new Official Visa on a holiday. The game had already begun and the Indian Team was playing when Sawant boarded his flight to Abu Dhabi. It was 2 days and 2 nights that Sawant had only prayed to join his team and win laurels for the country. These 2 sleepless days seemed to be long years for Sawant. On landing at Abu Dhabi, Sawant did not go to the hotel, but insisted to go to the Venue of the Championship. He had missed his practise sessions on the Horses provided by UAE Federation. The team Coach Ahmad Afsar was Happy on Sawants return but concerned that due to the stress Sawant may not be able to give his 100%. Sawant was determined. He requested his inclusion in the playing four with a promise of winning a medal. Sawant did not just keep his promise of winning a medal for India, but won an Individual Gold. The Quest that had begun became an onslaught on the other Countries like Australia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain. Out of 8 Events, India had won 7 Gold Medals and 1 Silver, a record in the History of Indian Equestrian for an International Event. The Indian Team emerged as the Champion Team in Emirates International and Qualified for the World Cup scheduled in Egypt.

The onslaught continued in April 2016 in Egypt. The Indian Team now lead by Ajay Sawant bagged Five Gold Medals out of Eight, the maximum ever by any team in A World Cup. Ajay Sawant continued giving good performances in National Championships and retained his place in the Indian Team in 2018, where he represented India again at World Cup Qualifiers in Australia and won medals. Subsequently, at the Biggest ever World Cup of Equestrian Tent Pegging in Abu Dhabi, Sawant and the Indian Team won a Silver Medal. 61st Cavalry pursued his candidature for Arjuna Award, but Sawant lost to Fouad Mirza, who had won an Individual Silver Medal and A Team Silver Medal in Eventing at Asian Games held in Jakarta in 2018. Finally, in 2020 , the Sports Ministry acknowledged his accomplishments and Risaldar Ajay Sawant was Honoured with India’s Most Prestigious Sports Awards, the ARJUNA AWARD. Sawant says he would continue to perform at the National level and try to be a part of the Indian Team again and win laurels for the country.

Fertility issues have been on a rise since the past decade, for innumerable reasons. But a lesser-known fact is that liver is one of the leading role players in your fertility. It is widely known that for disorders related to the liver – alcohol is to be blamed for. Though this fact is true that binge alcoholism leads to liver cirrhosis and failure, apart from filtering out alcohol, it has more than 300 other functions too. It is the most important organ of the body and hence its power shouldnot be underestimated. To name a few functions of the liver – » It purifies the complete blood twice within a minute. » Produces bile to regulate metabolism. » Detoxifies the body. » Stores vitamins and minerals for producing energy. » Produces HDL required for brain and CNS functioning. Everyday liver is exposed to almost 300 types of toxins of which half of them get

glued up to it, leading to impaired liver function and fertility issues. Though the design of the liver is such that it grows on its own, even if its half left, this self maintainability gets hindered.

How liver health impact fertility? Apart from the dietary intake, the estrogen receptors in the liver have an impact on fertility. The receptors are powered by amino acids (the basic building blocks of proteins) and are critical for the maintenance of normal fertility. Lack of a protein-rich diet causes a lesser breakdown into amino acids causing improper functioning of the estrogen receptors in the liver. This condition leads to a lack of hormone known as IGF – 1, which is responsible for increasing the sensitivity of the ovaries for

stimulation of Follicle stimulating Hormone (FSH) & gonadotropin that enhances follicular development. In the absence of this hormone, the uterine lining becomes weak and unable to develop properly, leading to irregular menstrual cycles. The liver is the only organ with the highest activation of the estrogen receptors. When the levels of the hormones drop in the blood, there is an inadequate growth of the uterus lining and improper progression of the menstrual cycle. Chronic liver and kidney diseases are known to impair with the fertility as they tend to interfere with the proper functioning of the pituitary glands that are responsible for producing growth hormones. These hormones convert the androgens into estrogen, lack of which may also lead to menstrual irregularities. In case of males, liver functioning affects the pituitary gland and creates a deficiency in release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone. This is the primary hormone responsible for signalling the release of testosterone and other reproductive hormones (FSH and LH) responsible for male fertility and virility. Absence or low levels of testosterone can cause to produce defective sperms.

Keep your liver healthy for better fertility The way of ensuring optimum liver health is to follow a toxin free lifestyle, exercising to keep metabolism intact, avoiding coffee and caffeine products, avoiding smoking and exposure to chemicals and any other stuff that affects the health negatively.

in normal ovulatory cycles in females and improved sperm quality in males. In order to keep the liver healthy, limit the amount of toxins exposure that includes smoking, drinking, and excess fat consumption to name a few. Consume a healthy diet that is rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains, as it contains antioxidants and vitamins effective in recovering the liver. Overall good health is attributable to natural fertility that is attained when the metabolic processes are well balanced. So, ensuring better liver health is necessary for peak health and fertility. According to Dr R.P. Singh a renowned Liver and GI surgery specialist, there has been a considerable rise in recent years in such fertility issues in young couples due to their underlying liver disorders and once we correct their liver health by giving proper diet, lifestyle advice and medicine, there is significant improvement in patients outcome related to conceiving and fertility.

Anorexic people (who are obsessed with their weight and what they eat) are generally infertile due to the fact that they consume a diet with too many carbohydrates and a negligible amount of protein in it. A protein-rich diet is capable of increasing the functioning of the estrogen receptors thereby improving the hormone balance resulting 15.

ROTARY GLOBAL NEWS AFRICA IS POLIO FREE The World Health Organization (WHO) on 25 August announced that transmission of the wild poliovirus has officially been stopped in all 47 countries of its African region. This is a historic and vital step toward global eradication of polio, which is Rotary’s top priority. After decades of hard won gains in the region, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) —WHO, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance — are proclaiming the milestone an achievement in public health. They offer it as proof that strong commitment, coordination, and perseverance can rid the world of polio.

African region. The funds have allowed Rotary to issue Polio Plus grants to fund polio surveillance, transportation, awareness campaigns, and National Immunization Days. Dr. Tunji Funsho, chair of Rotary’s Nigeria PolioPlus committee, noted Rotarians’ tremendous contributions to polioeradication efforts in Africa: “From raising funds and immunizing children, to providing ‘polio plusses,’ such as soap and healthkits, Rotary members have shown resilience andsteadfast dedication to our top priority of ending polio.” Challenges still ahead: To eradicate polio, multiple high-quality immunization campaigns must continue to be given priority. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s necessary to keep children vaccinated against polio while also protecting health workers from COVID-19 and making sure they don’t contribute to its transmission.

The certification that the African region is free of wild poliovirus comes after the independent Africa Regional Certification Commission (ARCC) conducted thorough field verifications that confirmed no new cases and analyzed documentation of polio surveillance, immunization, and laboratory capacity by Cameroon, Central African Republic, Nigeria, and South Sudan. The last cases of polio caused by the wild virus in the African region were recorded in Nigeria’s northern state of Borno in August 2016, after two years with no cases. Rotary members have contributed nearly $890 million toward polio eradication efforts in the

Rotary members still have a critical role to play in keeping the African region free of wild poliovirus and eliminating the virus in the two countries where polio remains endemic. As Knaack said, “This is a big step in our journey to a polio-free world, but the fight is not over yet. We still need the support of our Rotary members, donors, and heroic effort of health care workers to finish the job.”

ROTARY GLOBAL NEWS August 2020 is a Membership and New Club Development Month. After the success of first ever virtual convention; the new leadership Team gets in to action making plans, setting up agendas and work closely with members to execute them successfully.

As RI President Holger Knaack says, an increase in membership is meaningless if the next year, those new members leave our clubs. We need to grow Rotary sustainably, so it is important to add new members but even more important to retain existing ones.

Key features of Rotary Global this month are:

Jennifer E. Jones makes history, becomes first woman in 115-year history of Rotary to be nominated as named Rotary International president in year 2022-23. Ms. Jones understand how important it is to follow through on Rotary’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) statement. “I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion… begins at the top and for us to realize growth in female membershipand members under the age of forty — these demographics need to see their own reflection in leadership,” Jones said. “I will champion double-digit growth in both categories while never losing sight of our entire family.”

Binesh Desai, a former Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Inventor and Entrepreneur began working on eco-friendly brick made out of recycling and waste when he was 11 years old. Desai insists, there is nothing that is useless in this world. “The concept of waste does not exist in nature. It’s human consumption that creates it, so it’s our responsibility to get rid of it. And in the process of converting trash into treasure, we can also generate lot of employment. 20.
