There is a real sense of freedom and space.

Centred around 12 acres of green space and nestled between the South Downs and the sea, St Andrew’s enjoys a spectacular location.

I

t’s the children who define us and uphold our values.

St Andrew’s offers increasing choice and opportunity for every child as they progress through the school from Nursery to Prep.

T

he St Andrew’s Prep school day provides the time, space

and expertise for children to do it all.

We nurture a clear sense of values and prepare children for life at the senior school of their choice.

A

n education at St Andrew’s is an education in its truest sense

developing mind, body and spirit.

When the children go home, we want them to be eager to share something about their day.

W

e’re teaching children to learn how to learn.

Learning is focused on the individual.

Children are given the support and encouragement they need as they progress through the school, with specialist teachers and facilities.

I

n the classroom, we stretch, challenge and inspire. Children are engaged in learning.

Children enjoy the safe environment of the Nursery, designed for little people, with access to the wider facilities of the school.

I

n the Nursery, we introduce the world of learning and play.

Specialist lessons – music, sport, swimming and dance – are timetabled alongside academic lessons.

C

reative learning inspires children in the Pre-Prep with themed weeks, cross-curricular

topics, Forest School and school trips.

Enrichment activities extend the curriculum and extra support is available for those who need a helping hand.

A

s children get older, they take on more responsibility for their own learning

and teaching becomes more specialised.

Beach and Forest School are special. Here, we imaginatively teach all aspects of the curriculum while creating memories that last a lifetime.

At Beach School you may find children writing sea-inspired poetry, creating pebble art or exploring the shoreline for different seaweeds.

A lot of hot chocolate is consumed at Forest School and the children love toasting marshmallows.

Children could be creating a skeleton with twigs and foliage, counting and sorting to make a leaf kebab, measuring tree trunks, investigating mini-beasts or building a woodland home for a favourite teddy bear.

S

et in 1.5 acres adjacent to the school, the Forest School provides hands-on learning

for the Nursery and Pre-Prep children with diverse wildlife, a pond for dipping and a fire circle.

E

very child has the opportunity to take part in drama and participate in the numerous

orchestras, choirs and concerts. For those more inclined to art and design technology, the two studios offer wonderful spaces for further creativity.

The ethos is that you take part. There’s a team for everyone – whether playing for enjoyment or competing on the regional and national stage.

S

port at St Andrew’s is about building confidence, nurturing team work, camaraderie,

healthy competition and physical fitness.

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of the school day. These provide children with the opportunity to explore life outside the classroom.

W

e are committed to developing the whole child.

Quieter successes are equally important and make us proud.

E

ach child is an individual. Their quirks are nurtured and valued.

They’re allowed to be who they really are.

Quiet reflection in the Memory Garden.

It’s like a big family. Every child brings something special to the house.

St Andrew’s houses a vibrant and busy boarding community. In addition to full-time and weekly boarders, it is a home for many of our children at some time during the year – whether for an occasional sleepover, or a one-off week while parents are away.

T

he boarding house is located at the heart of the school. Well-equipped

communal areas provide space to relax, have fun or enjoy a bit of peace and quiet.

Weekends are packed with activities and organised outings.

Saturday stroll through local woods.

We share a wide range of facilities and expertise with Eastbourne College including two astroturf sites, fives courts, squash courts, professional coaches and the Birley Centre – a specialist performing arts centre.

A

ll ages use our purpose-built gym, heated indoor pool, music school, art

and design technology block, library, computing suites, Chapel, Forest School and, for the older children, pavilion with rifle range.

C

hildren belong to one of four houses throughout their time at St Andrew’s.

This nurtures loyalty and togetherness, fosters healthy competition and provides opportunities for leadership and responsibility.

A tribute to the value and strength of our community, the continuing success of the Old Androvian Society is reflected in the number of active members.

P

upils, parents, teachers and staff know each other well. We’re a close

and supportive community. Every parent is a member of the parents’ association - the Friends of St Andrew’s.

Children enjoy their time here.
