Welcome... Having returned to Bowfield in December 2017 I have enjoyed the past ten months catching up with many of our loyal longstanding members and taking the time to meet members who have joined our club in the last few years. It is clear to me that our membership profile has changed somewhat since my tenure from 2001 to 2006 but I’m pleased to see the Bowfield community spirit is as strong as ever. We made a commitment that we would embark upon a more open and transparent management style and keep members abreast of developments and use feedback to help us form decisions. I carried out a very useful exercise in June by making myself available for a two-week period to meet and discuss members experiences. This consultation raised positive feedback on our service quality and some output of suggested actions that we have discussed with the operational team. Some of these actions have been addressed with immediate effect and others will take a little more time but I can assure members that we shall address the areas of improvement that were highlighted. The most consistent concern was the inconsistent service from the Plumpy Duck restaurant. Slow service was the theme! Craig Stewart our General Manager has been working hard to address this issue and has taken corrective action to ensure that we get this right going forward. I would encourage you to give us another try and take advantage of your 20% member discount.
Since Manorview’s acquisition in 2012 we have invested millions restoring Bowfield to a first-class facility. This has included: • Upgrading the accommodation block • Installing Biomass fuel • Creation of the stunning AURA Spa • Installation of a bespoke Spin studio • Re-configuration of the main entrance and reception vestibule • Opening of Stables Bar and The Plumpy Duck • Re-conditioning of the Fun Factory play area • Resurfacing of the car park • Overhaul of the plant systems • Upgrading the leisure changing accommodation

FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS... Function Room and Old Lounge Bar We are currently refurbishing the Function Room and Old Lounge Bar.
Gym Equipment We’re excitedly awaiting delivery of new cardio equipment, which will arrive before the end of 2018. Even though we renewed a large number of machines during a 24-month period. we’re always watching the market to see what’s new in cardio.
This includes a new lighting system, new carpet and re-decoration of the walls and ceilings. Work should be completed Many operators choose to wait a by the end of October. five-year period before reviewing and renewing their equipment – but Outdoor Hydrotherapy Pool not us - we want our members to always have access to state-of-theWhen you thought AURA Spa art equipment. couldn’t get any better…we will soon be introducing an outdoor hydrotherapy spa pool.
Swimming Pool Plant
I’m sure you agree this demonstrates our continuous improvement agenda is ongoing and members will continue to reap the benefits of the facility upgrading. To celebrate, we invite you to join us on Thursday 25th October, 6-8pm for some nibbles and a glass of fizz. We still intend to carry out a comprehensive membership satisfaction survey later in the year and details will be released in due course.
You have seen what we have achieved so far, so no doubt this project will be mirroring the quality of the development work to date.
Our swimmers have commented positively on the exceptional water clarity in recent weeks. This is due to a £15k replacement of the pool filtration system.
My role in the company is changing to Head of Sales and Marketing for the group but I will continue to support The Bowfield team to achieve our company goals.
This will see a new membership category exclusively for Bowfield Members only. The detail will be released in due course once the timescales for the work have been finalised. Watch this space...
Jacuzzi users will also see some extra bubbles as we have re-instated the Jacuzzi air blower.
Thank you for your continued support and membership... FRASER MAKEHAM Head of Sales and Marketing E: fraser.makeham@manorviewgroup.co.uk

LEISURE TIME... New Leisure Manager: MOIRA WELSH My passion in fitness and exercise began from a very early age which led me to my 1st career in the British Army where I helped lead the establishment of the 1st ever female rugby team in my regiment. After 7 years and 2 operational tours I took the decision to leave the army and follow my passion in fitness by going back to University and achieving a degree in Sport & Exercise Science, at the same time investing in my personal development by obtaining numerous qualifications in various group fitness classes as well as working as a gym instructor and personal trainer. Having spent 6 years working my way up through the fitness industry to my last post as Duty Manager at Scotland’s National Sports Centre in Largs, where I was responsible for the operational day- to-day running of the site, I felt it was time to move on to a more leading role in fitness where I could put my knowledge and passion to better use. I am very excited to become the new figurehead of Bowfield leisure and look forward to integrating within the community and working together to help Bowfield leisure achieve its maximum potential!

We are currently building a strong team to continue to deliver quality service. This includes the introduction of a leisure receptionist to safeguard our members, and to answer any queries our members and potential members might have. In addition to this we are also introducing a retail offering of various items for swimming and gym use which will be available to buy at our leisure reception. Further to members feedback we are currently updating our class schedule. Watch this space. I am looking forward to getting to know all the members and have already begun to do so. In the meantime, please feel free to stop for a chat at any time and offer your feedback or suggestions.
I look forward to meeting some more if you in person and hope to see you at our Members Event on Thursday 25th October...

MBPT After over 6 years as Leisure Club Manager, I have decided to pass on the reins and start my own business in personal training, MBPT Fitness. I have had a fantastic time at Bowfield and I am grateful for all the good wishes from staff and members in starting out in this new venture. Having built strong relationships with the Bowfield, it felt right to base MBPT Fitness at Bowfield. I am looking forward to growing a successful business that will benefit the club and the members. Former Bowfield employee Jodie Fitzpatrick has joined me as a Personal Trainer. You will see plenty of us in and around the gym, as well as taking spin
classes on a Tuesday and Thursday if you want to pop along. If you have any questions regarding your own training or would like some advice in the gym, please do not hesitate to ask. We also have an enquiry section on the website for any questions you may have. I will regularly be posting on MBPT social media platforms and the website so please give the pages a follow to keep up-to-date with the latest goings on.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS... If you’re quick, you might catch the end of autumn, and be able to bask in the warm glow of the season’s glorious colours. There’s lots of great walks and attractions around the Bowfield Hotel and Country Club, wrap up and get out your walking boots - here’s a top three list of what to enjoy...
Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park:
Lochwinnoch RSPB Nature Reserve:
There’s lots to see and do in this extensive area which boosts some fascinating history. It was once a Victorian shooting estate, often visited by Winston Churchill. It’s home to the hen harrier – one of Britain’s rarest birds of prey. There’s also an old railway and the Barytes Mine.
Go bird-watching at the RSPB Nature Reserve in nearby Lochwinnoch. Do you know the difference between a grasshopper warbler and a great spotted woodpecker? Get out your binoculars and see what feathered friends you can spot among the reeds and wetlands of this nature reserve.
You’ll find stunning scenery and an abundance of walks to choose from. From woodlands to heather hills, moorlands and waterfalls, there’s lots to enjoy in this vast regional park. There’s also a visitor centre and café.
And in the autumn, you could see large groups of swallows. This little summer bird can often be found in the wetland preparing for a long journey southward saying goodbye to us and any summer sunshine…
Castle Semple Country Park: Castle Semple Country Park is within the larger Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park. You’ll find it in Lochwinnoch and it’s also next to National Cycle Route 7. The Centre has a café and gift shop, has free parking and entry. And there’s lots to do. Choose from sailing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating, archery and more. There’s also an outdoor activity team on hand to help. Or just enjoy the views, the wildlife and various walking and cycle trails.
10
The Centre is also accessible to all, it’s registered as Scotland’s first Centre of Excellence for disability sailing in 2012.
