instructor profile
Nancy Sandoval I was born in El Paso, Texas and raised in Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico. Dancing has always been my passion. I started when I was 4 years old, first at a Folkloric Academy for 9 years and then as a cheerleader in middle school and high school. I went to college at the University of Texas at El Paso and got a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. I have been teaching Zumba and Zumatomic for 5 years and recently got my AFAA Certification (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) in Group Fitness. For me, teaching is one of my happy moments. Seeing adults as well as children having fun and exercising is a reward for me. Becoming healthier, active and confident are some of the many benefits of taking a dance class. When I’m not teaching a class, I enjoy being with my family and friends. I just love to be around people. I also like to go to the movies and I really enjoy traveling.

Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park The new community park on Matlock Road has been named Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park which includes 80 acres of wooded and grassland landscape along Walnut Creek. This park is part of the unique intersection between the Cross Timbers and the Texas Black Land Prairie Eco Regions, which has helped to contribute to the diversity of plant and wildlife species evident on the site. The park will be a nature-based centerpiece of Mansfield’s park system and a place to connect citizens to their local history and natural resources. This property has a rich history in shaping Mansfield not only with hydrology, wildlife, and plant life educational opportunities, but also as early maps indicate a wagon trail route ran through this property in the 1800’s. This property was purchased in the 1960’s by Mr. Elmer W. Oliver. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver lived in Mansfield and he worked for the City’s Water Department. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver never lived on the property, but as he was nearing retirement, wanted a hobby and he thought the property would be a good place to keep him busy. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver had three daughters, Geraldine, Marianne and Eleanor. In 1992, after both Mr. and Mrs. Oliver had passed away, Marianne and her husband, Mr. Kelly Williams purchased the property. They lived on the property for a short time but mostly Mr. and Mrs. Williams used the property as a quiet get-a-way and for family gatherings. In the fall of 2003, Mrs. Williams contacted the city about acquiring the property. She stated that her family has used the property as a park for years and she wanted the city to open it up as a park for everyone to enjoy. Mrs. Williams passed away in November, 2003. In January 2004, the Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation purchased the property from the Williams family. Phase I includes the following amenities and is scheduled to open in early 2014: 3 Over one mile of soft surface
