North Main
WCLT extension
Barks & Rec returns
It’s almost time to hit the trails! Construction is nearly complete on North Main Street, where the Walnut Creek Linear Trail will soon connect to Historic Downtown Mansfield. The 12-foot wide lighted paths bring our popular trail system from Town Park to Oak Street, connecting walkers, runners and bikes to the downtown business district. The trail is expected to open in early spring 2019.
Dirt will begin moving in February on the next phase of the Walnut Creek Linear Trail. The one mile segment takes the trail from Oliver Nature Park through Philip Thompson Soccer Complex to SH-360. This section will include a combination of concrete and decomposed granite 12-ft wide trails ideal for running and biking. No disruption is expected at Oliver Nature Park during the early stages of construction. Crews will begin in the Phillip Thompson Soccer Complex area and work west towards the Nature Park. There are no road closures associated with the construction at this time but watch the Facebook page for updates. The full trail extension is scheduled to open in Spring 2020.
Barks & Rec, the popular program that began last year as a way to combine Mansfield Parks’ fitness programs with the animal shelter, is back for 2019! The running class begins in February, and the 5k and festival are scheduled for April 6 at Katherine Rose Memorial Park. If you’re an animal lover, fitness enthusiast, or just looking for a new member of the family, be sure to pencil in the 2019 Barks & Rec day as a can’t miss opportunity to rescue a furry friend and have a great time doing so.
MAC Updates The Mansfield Activities Center gym will be closed during the month of February for flooring installation. The new surface will replace the current sport tiles and provide a much better surface for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and all the other activities our multipurpose facility currently hosts. Gym walls will also be painted during the closure, giving the entire space a fresh new look just in time for spring. Most classes held in the gym will be moved during the closure; please see the front desk for specific program information.
Parks Master Plan The Mansfield Parks & Recreation Department is busy with day-to-day work, but always looking to the future as well. It’s time to update our department master plan, a vision for the future growth & development that will cover the next ten years and beyond. Public input in the planning process is our top priority; please keep an eye out for online surveys, open forum meetings and more details as the process gets underway this spring.
2018 Year in Review We knew last year was busy, but when you really count the ways, it adds up! We’re so proud to be a part of the Mansfield community, and appreciate how many people count on us for fun, fitness, family time and fellowship. We’ve collected a few highlights from the last year to represent the countless ways we’ve celebrated, created and grown together. Thank you, Mansfield!

Spring is ready to pop in Mansfield and the parks & recreation department is celebrating with an open house! Stop by the Mansfield Activities Center on Monday, Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. to Noon for a preview of our spring classes and pop up play event.
In addition to ongoing classes like martial arts and dance, Mansfield Parks & Recreation offers a number of summer camp options for different ages and interests. Guests at the open house will be able to get more information about these camps and start planning their summer fun, whether that means perfecting their jump shot or exploring the geology of our natural preserve. The Spring Open House will also be the site of the first Pop Up Play Station of 2019. The pop ups are part of a campaign that began last year to encourage Mansfield families
Spring Discount Day “The MAC offers over 1400 programs each year,” said Marketing & Communications Manager Ann Beck. “I think most residents have no idea the great range of options we have for education and enrichment for all ages. At the MAC we have fitness and arts classes for all ages, like dance, painting, martial arts and pickleball. At Oliver Nature Park we offer handson science for preschool and up, family programs like hikes and kayak tours, and adult ecology education. This open house event is both a fun and free activity for people to check out while the kids are off school and an opportunity for us to showcase the MAC to anyone who’s never had a chance to check it out.”
to unplug from technology and experience more wireless, interactive play time together. Parks & Rec staff supply classic toys, from jump ropes and hula hoops to noodles and nerf
rockets, and the kids and families create the memories. Pop Ups were held all summer and fall last year in different parks and will return in the spring for more unplugged play, starting with the open house. Kids
Spring Open House & Discount Day Monday, Feb 18 9 AM-Noon Mansfield Activities Center 10% in-person discount 15% online discount valid 9 am-9 pm can run, jump and play while mom and dad check out the classes and get more information about the programs. “Our focus is always on the families here in Mansfield,” said Beck. “We’re constantly looking for ways we can make their lives better, easier, or just more fun. This open house is a combination of all of those goals; we can help you improve your life by learning a new skill or hobby in one of our classes, make it easy to hear all about the options by having everything together in one place, and hopefully your whole family will have a great time in the process!”
The Spring Open House also falls on the quarterly Discount Day, when program registrations are 15% off online and 10% in-person. Guests 15 spring 2019

We are proud to count many local businesses as our partners in these events by serving as annual sponsors. Their support makes so many of our programs and activities possible, and we thank them for their continued dedication! This quarter’s feature sponsor is Post Motors Mansfield. Managed by Mansfield resident Matt Cohagen, Post Motors Mansfield has featured quality off lease vehicles and financing since 1996. Matt is excited to announce they are moving to their new facility on 1187 which they will open to the public in March. In addition to financial contributions, Post Motors Mansfield provides vehicles for our annual Rockin 4th of July event, where the free “Car Smash” booth is one of our most popular attractions. Matt lives in Mansfield with his family and is proud to be a supporter of our Parks & Recreation events throughout the year.
